With the surge of some ROMs for our devices, and though they're related between each other to a certain degree (save for CM7), the inevitable question surges: which one has the upper hand? The stock ROM is vastly improved since 1.06 and Ganjaman's add-ons make it more mature, the MoDaCo ROM has the advantage of having been the first modded ROM, CyanogenMod7, thanks to Apache14's work, has made a stellar appearance and we actually get the official updates (such as the ones that mad-murdock presented us yesterday), Corvus has been updating his new ROM quite rapidly and it works nicely, like Fuji-Vega does... We're lucky that we're not in want of possible choices! But which is yours?
Thread moved to General.
For me corvus. It's so quick and stable, and is the only one, where's my usb 3g huawei running. Did I told you, that it's really fast?

I agree totally, corvus is so quick. I can't wait until it can be combined with mad murdoch's HC tweaks, the vega will be Ninja then!

@logseman
great idea for a thread. I'm considering starting a thread on a similar line, thought id check in and avoid toe treading and see if there is a need for it.
As a newb to vega android modding, its great that there is such a wealth of info and advice, but sometimes its not clear or comprehensive (at least in one place! )
I'd like to run a "what vega setup is best for me" thread. The aim being to allow users to show exactly what setup they are running, how it performs, pro's and cons, bugs etc.
By using a standard template, we can see what works and why. We can make direct comparisons between setups without searching through threads for hours.
Users can then copy setups and try if they think they like it. Might also provide devs useful concise feedback to help them progress roms / kernels etc.
If it already exists, feel free to point me in the right direction whilst mocking my newbe stupidity, but ive read and re read the main threads and can't see it.
If you're reading this and think it would be useful, let me know, with suggestions and i'll get the ball rolling.
I.A.O.
Edit: if you want to help or collaborate, pm me.
I'm not sure how setting up a "standard configuration" would be of benefit. Primarily because of two issues: first, the same custom ROM can have dramatic performance differences between one device and the other (I am a ROM tester for Galaxy S, people claim battery lives of 4 days which I've never heard about); and second, the point of Android is that it actually doesn't force any standardisation as of now: I don't see why users would tend to a certain set up which has been done by another person instead of experimenting themselves.
Don't take me wrong, I appreciate that you take interest in this thread, but I fail to see the point of your suggestion. Android has no predefined "set-ups" as far as I know.
Yeah, i get your point. For me too its all about modding and tweaking. But i also got the impression that some people just want to get there device configured in a way that works for them quickly.
Im certainly Not saying lets all set up the same, if we wanted that we'd just bite the apple right!
I just think it would be useful to see at a glance what is working for people. I.e - "i need a rom with no lag on my vega - ah looks like cm7 ttrc2 has lag issues", without having to read 178 pages to find out.
I guess it would be more like an "at a glance" guide to roms for each device.
I used Modaco since i got my Mobii/Vega, but yesterday i flashed clockwork recovery and started using Titanium backup for real, so now i am testing some ROMs and sofar i like fuji-vega the most, fast and smooth, only some lag in appmenu when i have the device rooted.
I spent a long time using mcr8 eventually with buzz kernel but I then got bored and tried cm7 which I loved but just could not stand all the lag when scrolling etc.
I am now using corvus which seems to work well for me. I hope to switch back to cm7 when it improves a bit.
I love CM7 on my phone and would love it on the Vega, but the wifi troubles it has at this moment on the Vega made me switch to first Modaco and than Corvus. The only bad thing I can say about Corvus is that I personally would prefer Gingerbread green icons aboive the blue ones in Corvus

I am in a similar position to you. I have only installed Modaco R8 and not really used Titanium Backup nor Clockwork Recovery. I find R8 lags after extended use (requiring a reboot) so I am interesting in changing to Corvus. I have a few questions.
What is the best way to move from Modaco to Corvus?
Can I use Clockwork Recovery/Titanium to ease the pain of transition?
How do I install CWR?
Is it best to go back to stock and then install Corvus? If so, will I lose all of my customisations?
Thanks in anticipation of a response.

You would want to wipe when doing an install of a different rom anyway, so you will lose settings, most will be restored by Ti Backup though.
> I would do a Ti Backup of everything, then a nandroid backup before flashing.
Sorry, how do I do that? I have Modaco R8 with Titanium Backup installed. How do I use Ti to "backup everything", what is a "nandroid backup", and how do I restore stuff after installing a new ROM?
Cheers.
you can find this information quite easily by searching
ti backup press menu>batch>backup all user apps and system data
Then after installing cwm (download zip open
cd /path/to/folder
./install.sh for mac and linux (make sure to downlod my fixed scripts second post)
or
click install.bat for windows
then click recovery app use volume buttons and power to select backup and restore)
wipe data instal rom
ti backup from market
menu>batch>restore all user apps and system data (modaco is similar to corvus so should be safe to restore everything if things start crashing repeat install and untick all apps that are already installed in ti backup)
there you go you have transitioned
sorry if this sounds patronising it sounded like you were a noob so i included great detail
p.s. this will all become second nature after a while
hmmm atm i'm using CM7, and after switching to launcher pro it's so fast !!
adw launcher is such a crappy launcher (sry, my opinion)
anyways, my flash is pretty laggy due to the unstable nightly builds, I mean they're not in the fully power.. but I will wait, <3 cyanogem
I wish we had the HC update soon, rly =(
Ive been using Fuji-Vega since april and applying updates when they become available.
Really happy with it and cant complain. Does what i need it to do.
Very quick to use.
Corvus5 for me right now. it's stable and fast as, with oc I have been using cm7 until a few days ago and will no doubt give the latest a shot before the weekends gone, it now has oc kernel
I can't use custom ROMs because nor CM neither Corvus doesn't let my Huawei e150 connect to internet. When I'll solve this problem CM'll my choice.
CM7 for me. I've tried a few but CM7 just feels/looks slicker.
Will there ever be a fully working honeycomb rom?

BRACE YOURSELVES,LONG POST COMING!!
So,this phone is my very first one since 2013,and because i LOVE to tinker every software(even on pc) i decided to tinker my very first smartphone to the best performance possible !
I Learned a lot about this phone and 2 years later i decided to help others reach this point of optimization for this phone..
MY choice for android version for this phone is Jellybean(4.3) and i can explain why.
I choose this version because we want to operate our phone without A-N-Y bugs or FC's...
I choose this version because we want to get the best out of our camera....
i chose this version because I think(please dont sent hate posts) its the lightest software WHILE maintaning stability :fingers-crossed:
Well lets get started then!!
ROM:The best jellybean rom in terms of performance PLUS stability (my personal opinion again) is Just archi'shttp://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...m-justarchis-sammy-stock-deodex-root-t2855613, (IMHO The best developer for this phone ).
this rom use very little resources and it is as close to stock as possible with the basics (in terms of flexibility) baked in :good:
Also we all hate to admit that Sammy stock ROM is the most optimized because their sources is closed (so in sammies 4.4.2 -4.4.4 that developers port is laggy after some long term use so we cant blame them).
KERNEL: I chose this kernel because WHILE having enough stability,it delivers MASSIVE performance boost-And this is Boeffla's in synergy with zanezam's boeffla kernel with uber toolchain http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/development/kernel-boeffla-kernel-linaro-zzmoove-t2629184 http://boeffla.df-kunde.de/zanezam/linaro/i9300/samsung/jb43/stable/. THUMBS UP TO THESE DEVELOPERS :good: !!!
OPTIMIZATIONS: I'D like to share my boeffla kernel profile.this profile is aimed just a bit to performance while having good Sot's (4 hours+)...
Use Greenify!!! Its the best app available capable of hibernate you apps of CHOICE,freeing RAM to make the device snappy
i'd recomment to use it with XPOSED as you have more options to hibernate even system apps! :good:
ADBLOCK: use Adaway. It saves you from these ads that not only they are irritating, but you save a LOT of cpy cycles, which means cooler phone, still snappy while browsing etc.
Xposed modules:the only frustration about this rom for me is that it has no advanced reboot.. But its obvious because rom is as close to stock as possible). so if you want this you must install APM+ module found in download section inside xposed installer or by this link: http://repo.xposed.info/module/hk.kennethso168.xposed.apmplus.
SOUND:After a lot of scripts and mods about sound in our phone,i decided to settle to [/FONT]V4A app and their drivers because it has INSANE volume boost WHILE maintaining quality :good: .
music application of choice is "Music" by SONY because i find it to work best with V4A. just move the apk to system app to work.normal install dont work!
SYSTEM APPS REMOVAL: I removed those system apps, freeing a good chunk of storage AND RAM, WHILE maintaining stability and no FC'S or bugs or anything.
there is the following:
ChocoEUKor
RoseEUKor
SNS
PanningtryActually.apk
Best face
My Files
Adapt sound(needed to install V4A)
Capability manager service
simcardpermission
CoolEUkor
DirectConnectManager
Direct ShareManager
DroidSerifitalic
Enterprise permissions
Multimedia ui service layer
Page buddy noti svc
Remote controls
Samsung link connectivity
SyncmlDS

Music FX

bcservice
enterprise sim pinservice
Flashbar service
syscope service
vpn services
factory mode
factory mode
factory test
ims framework
indiservicemanager
MDMApp
OMACP

ultracfg
And with all that, i achieved very little Ram consumption and less Cpu cycles :good:
I hope you find this useful!
see attachments for my RAM usage without pressing clear all, and boeffla kernel profile of my own.give it a try!
sorry for long post!
cheers!

well, I must say that you should use the rom in the link first to see if you like sammy stock but a bit modded.there are many roms but ported Roms e.g Blekotas roms are indeed beautiful BUT due time eventually it starts to lag, which is not developers fault, its just a port.

I have a issue, When I tried to install the zip, my CWM has no options to do so. All I have done so far is install CF-root. Do I need to install a recovery separately? how and what recovery should I install? Should I get boeffla kernel first?
And is there anything I should be worried about, do I need to update bootloader or anything like that. my current version is: i9300XXUGNA5 , with CF root.
Just flash TWRP not cwm its not compatible

I keep getting software update notifications, but I have installed a newer firmware (archis) than what I think the phone want to download (the latest version for my region, sweden is older than archis firmware in his thread).
going into settings I do not really see a option to disable to search for these updates.
Do you also get this?
You need to edit this post, you should not be advertising warez ...
The developer of the app in question is also a member of these forums and I wouldn't like him seeing other members pointing to his software being cracked...

Hi guys!
Is already have my OP5 since a month and using FreedomOS with Franco Kernel since the 2nd day I got it in my hand.
I am pretty happy in everything it brongs me both things, but I want to ask to people who has another custom ROM (xXx NoLimits, Resurrection Remix, ExperienceOS, etc) / Kernel on its device (I do not know a lot of kernels but I saw Franco and people (and his developer) told me some features and they hat reason is very smooth good and customizable with its own app.
So which Rom do you have? Magisk or SuperSu? Which Kernel is the best for you? :victory:
I want to get your personal opinion and your experience, I hope more people have the questions I did it and here we can help us each other with our opinion about using X rom X kernel and some more features that I can not put it here because I do not know if there are more things (my last Z5 I used mods and tweaks to make better performance but if you have a kernel like France you do not need this).
Thank you very much for your help :fingers-crossed:
I'm using xXx no limits and use the AKT (advanced kernel tweaks or so?) mod.
I don't know about the kernels but the ROM itself is my favorite.
It has an aroma installer (you pick which features you want before installing them) with many options.
You won't need to download gapps, magisk/ supersu and some stuff like xposed separately. It's very convenient.
Everything is smooth.
The stereo mod (using the earpiece as a speaker for music and videos) is something which is weird as it's used for something it wasn't meant to be used but still a very nice addition.
It's basically a faster stock OOS (oxygen OS) in a bundle with some root functionality added.
This shall be it for now. I hope that I could help you. Fell free to ask if you have any questions
I am using pure stock since I got this phone on the 4th of September and I have to say since then I stopped being a flasholic.
PureFusion because I've had the Nexus 6P and Pixel XL before this phone and ran PureNexus on those, and PureFusion is based on that. It's the only ROM that I feel provides just the right amount of features for me (not too much and not too less).
I'm using the stock kernel now because using custom kernels would introduce issues.
I did have the phone randomly reboot on Me 2 times so far but I can't say for sure that it's the ROM that is causing it.
Overall it's my favourite one out of the handful I have tried and I would definitely recommend it!!
Gonna go with stock as well. Stock kernel or Franco. Gotta say, better speed and battery than the other stuff out there. You gotta figure a whole company can do much better in software development than 1 guy or a team of 5 or 6 people.
Pure Fusion here too because its given me an extremely better battery life from the normal 3 hours SOT, i now get roughly 6 . Stock Kernel with the rom because it's just good for me all in all, maybe will try Franco sometime down the road because, i've been along time supporter. Magisk just because I don't need much except YouTube without ads, also can use Snapchat and other apps flawlessly! Good Luck!

What I normally do is wipe everything but internal memory, install room along with gapps I use open and it boots up! And you're all good to go !

It doesn't really matter. You can download open gapps or one for the others (forgot the names. Hehe).
You'll have to flash the ROM first and then the gapps file in the recovery. That's it.
But beware. Playing with your phones software doesn't come without risks. Read a lot about what you have to do and preferably try it on a phone to practice before doing it on your normal phone.
It can break your phone and I don't think that you can/ want to buy a new one. I had bricked my first phone a week after getting into root and custom ROMs.
The problems after that have driven me crazy but I was going to buy a new phone anyway.
LPT: If you want to flash something, wait for stable releases as long as you're inexperienced. Wait till others have tried that and then flash it. That way, you'll avoid some of the problems that you would struggle for a long time to fix.
And don't forget this. Keep an eye on the forums to see what problems people are reporting of and how to solve or avoid them in the first place.
Hope I could help

+1 for Pure Fusion, I get up to 10 and a half hours screen on time with better performance than I get on OOS, noticeable by eye.
Ultimately, you may find a better combination out there, but the baseline for me is Fusion, it just works as it should, stamina and power.

Super smooth, absolutely as fast as Oxygen OS. I always use "GApps" and here U should choose "ARM64" and "7.1". I recommend you to use either "Nano" or "Pico", but you could choose whatever you want!
1. Flash the ROM in TWRP
2. Flash GApps

Yea mate it's always the latest version of the Rom, I always clean flash too.
I've tried all the Rom's on XDA for the Oneplus, No limits for me is the best OOS Rom (personal choice) but overall and for the things I need from it, plus Displaylink technology works indefinitely on it, on OOS Rom's it cuts out after around 9 minutes which is a deal breaker for me.
10 hours SOT is superb.

Basicly:
Encrypted = Makes it more difficult for people who are not authorized to access information stored on the phone. You are thus safer when the phone are encrypted.
Decrypted = Opposite to Encrypted. The benefit with this one compared to Encrypted is a better performance.
You can check what U use by going to the settings menu, then head over to "Security & fingerprint", scroll down to the bottom and done.
PS: I am Decrypted!

before anyone drops any more advice here to this user, please be aware that narrating the entire learning process for flashing makes you partially responsible for what happens to this users phone.
@dzesiu2002 i strongly advise you to do research on all of these topics before going any further. you could end up wasting a lot of your time or worse: breaking your phone.
research research research. for everyone's sake. i'm not trying to be mean. this is the best advice anyone can give you.

This. Also, not trying to be rude and it's awesome that everyone is so willing to help, but I don't think spoonfeeding is the best option. OP has tons of questions (many that are simple and can easily be answered with self-research).
As the user I quoted mentioned, you should visit other threads that have instructions and information on flashing, encrypt vs. decrypt and so on!

Man, i have much phones all of them always have custom rom and kernel, so i never brick the device... All rom, kernel have in own thread installation process and i going with it, newbie for sure will brick the device, if i flashed much devices without a break them, then really you still think im newbie ? Cmon in my thread in #1 post, i dont write " its my first time with flashing the device, am noob or something like that " Newbies having 100% understandable tutorial about unlocking BL, install TWRP or Root the device, but they still ask for help, did you see anywhere in OP5 section about i needed help with that ? First of all, im not stupid and know any flash is risk, but if device bricked then this is not the fault of the author of the topic, only it is the fault of the user who carried out the installation wrongly. This post is for you and means you have to post something like this in threads people who really are green and dont know anything about flashing.

i am NOT calling you stupid. i AM definitely calling you a newbie.
the questions you have been asking are very rudimentary when it comes to flashing ROMs. regardless of your previous experience, it is still best that you do a lot more reading. this obviously isn't what you want to hear, but it is as true as truth can be. if you don't know what encryption is, then you shouldn't be trying to work around it. you should be figuring out what encryption is in the first place.
i don't play game on my mobile. all I do is talking with my GF, random youtubing, social apps, music, so all i care about is SOT! PERFORMANCE is my second priority. which rom would be best for me?
Try Superior OS.

Mmm... Best battery backup is in Miui roms, although AOSP roms don't have the worst battery backup neither...
Personally my best battery backup was in MiuMix rom, but I know that some people have better battery life than me with AOSP roms.. Then I think you should try some of our recommendations and chose according your own experience... ?

Do use use this rom? How much screen on time you get?
I'm using lastest MIUI10 of xiaomi.eu and so far so good, easy can get around 8~10hrs of SOT with just social media (messenger, whatsapp, instagram) and some random youtube/browsing, and even with light gaming, 1~2 hours of not so heavy games like Clash Royale.
But is up to you to go and test the roms until you find the one that suits better for your use, for example you can test the AOSiP Pizza of AmulyaX, it seems to have a good battery backup See this cap

Well, good thing about xiaomi.eu is that they debloat the ROM by default, so if you are using your stock MIUI, you could try Saki tool to debloat it Here's the link with tutorial.
AFAIK, many things in stock MIUI consume battery in background, also depending of the MIUI version of your phone it can do an impact too, EEA/Global, etc, because some version have battery drain, like for example my RN7 is global, when I was on 10.3.6.0 my SOT was lower than on the default version that came out-of-the-box with the phone that was 10.2.3.0 (a really weird version cuz i never found it again, it's global PFGMIXM).
I don't have my screenshot of 8-9hours of SOT, but I have this ones from yesterday. (As you can see, 5h of SOT with 42% percent left and from that, 2h were playing PUBG in Balance Graphics)
As I said, you can go and try ROMS until you found the one with better backup for your use, as today almost all custom roms are updated and improved compared to 2month ago. :good:

I have read the tutorial. I'm a noob in this themes of debloat the bootloader and how to install ROMs correctly. Also I dont know what are the consequences of debloating your mobile, only I have heard that I have to do a backup copy. If you could explain me some things it would be a pleasure. I can send you a link to a telegram chat and help me. Ty.

To debloat you just need to follow the tutorial in the link i gave you, is not needed to unlock the bootloader, that's another thing. (Debloating is just uninstalling system apps that are safe to remove and that actually doesn't impact your phone system, most of this apps just gather information to share it on the servers of it owners like Xiaomi for ads and etc)
Just install the ADB/Fastboot drivers Here's the link
Activate the USB debug in developer options Here's the link
You will need JRE (JavaRuntime) for Saki Tool Here's the link
Download Saki tool, it also have instruction of how to use it on GitHub Here's the link

As i stated in my edit of the previous post (Debloating is just uninstalling system apps that are safe to remove and that actually doesn't impact your phone system, most of this apps just gather information to share it on the servers of it owners like Xiaomi for ads and etc). Saki tool works like this, if you "uninstall" the app it just remove it from the running system but not from the system image or partition, that means that you can re-install again with the same tool (Saki), you will still get your OTA updates, next Android 10 (MIUI 11) will be for next year to be stable, betas are starting soon, so no worries with it, also read the post about the tool This link in the replies you will find some usefull information as which apps you can remove and so on, also any doubts about it wrote it there, good luck. :good:

Yes one doubt more. In your previous post, you didn't say anything of ROMs. I mean, if you are using a specific ROM, can you tell me what is? Because I don't understand if after install saki tool I have to install my preferred ROM or there are some recommended ROMs to install. Thank you for all the explanation really.

I said in the first post, Saki tool is for MIUI usually used on the stock rom (The one your phone came with, I mean if your phone is untouched), because as stock you can't do any much change without root and so on, so the tool helps you out to debloat without the need of unlock your bootloader / root your ROM. Now if you are going to unlock your bootloader to start testing custom ROMS that's another topic.
Also I said i'm using a Custom ROM, the lastest MIUI 10 rom from Xiaomi.eu, they build Miui rom based on China developer ones without all the bloat-apps, you can google a bit and read about Xiaomi.eu on their website.
So in resume, Saki if a Java based tool that you can run on your PC, and will help you out to debloat (manually selecting the apps you want to uninstall of your stock ROM) and also have some other features for phones with unlocked bootloader. But basically is used for the ppl who doesn't want to unlock it, and be on the safe stock ROM, or to evade voiding the guarantee.
If you are going to use any other custom ROM based on CAF or ASOP, the tool is not needed because most of those ROM doesn't came with bloataware.
Very helpful, but seriously off topic...
pe plus battery is shaping up well. no mods, not even magisk, are installed.
