Oneplus I pro, enabling call recording possibile in Europe? - OnePlus 8 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi, I am coming from Xiaomi phones, and I live in EU Europe.
Wish to buy a Oneplus 8 Pro, but only only only if I have call recording working. Which means that when I want during a call I press a button and the call gets recorded.
I find this feature extremely useful for many reasons, but because of some privacy law (what the f***it's MY call) is not available on phones in Europe.
In Xiaomi phones with European ROM is disabled, but I am able to have it flashing other country ROM (like India or other).
Is this possible also with the Oneplus 8 Pro?
Thanks

I'm in the UK, soon to not be Europe and it's working fine for me pal.
Could it be your provider? Didn't think they'd have an influence over that.
Is your phone branded or something?

You will want a pc to run adb commands, but download joneplustools, grant it access via adb then turn on call recording in there. It enables the native call recorder

Do you know why it's disabled for him?
I have the same model? Unlocked 2023.
Maybe the country matters?

That's it? Good.
Is this permanent or need to be redone after reboot?
How is the native call recorder? During a call you press a button, it records both parties and saves it on the phone?

Joneplustools will restore after a reboot. Been pretty reliable for me and I'm not rooted. It has a service that you can enable too but I've never needed to use it, just the enable option. Then I enabled it in phone app settings.

Hi, ok I can live with that, if the phone is good rearely is neededd to reboot.
Do you recommend the phone: I can get the 8/128Gb at 700 Euro and 12/256Gb at 775 Euro.
Is the 12Gb really needed?
Still a good buy, or is there any better?
p.s. I had since 3 years only Xiaomi high end phones, but my last Poco F2 Pro lasted 2 months and it broke, bad experience

OxygenOS is the stock firmware with which the phone leaves the factory, then it is branded according to the country that will sell the product.
The only real difference is with the phones sold in China that come with HydrogenOS, version without google applications.

Ok, sorry new to Oneplus. Using Magisk is needed to root, or lose some functionality? Like NFC Google Pay, Netflix and so on?

No you won't lose anything with the likes of just root or magisk ROMs.
Safety net passes.
If you affect system then you will lose safety net and thus the benefits of having it.

Carrier removed Phone!

Hello,
I bought a Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 GT-P5100, and from some reason, the carrier I bought it from, installed their own ROM and removed the Phone function from the tablet and I can't dial, only use the internet for browsing, so I was wondering, is there a way to bring the phone function back?
Thanks !

because of some tax issues, some carriers remove the phone option, when the device has cellular phone calls options, it a "phone" and not a "media device" or "computer tab" and the amount of the tax that the carrier (and you) need to pay goes higher, so they remove it to keep the price fair and not to start **** with the government office that in-charge on the mobile phones.
you always have the option to install stock rom with the phone option, it WILL damage your warranty and its on your own risk.
good luck!

Thanks for making it clear! I know I'm a bit late  but I forgot about it.
In order to install stock rom you have to root it first right? is there a guide to do the whole process? (rooting + installing stock rom on galaxy tab 2 10.1?)

or, you could activate google voice, get issued a free phone number
or, you could activate google voice, get issued a free phone number, thats what I did on my wifi only model, it would use your data plan instead, and works great, that way you could give your google number to all the gumbahs and your real number to the real folks in your world. Their are a number of apps that you can use and they work seemlessly with your native app and I had great conversations on voip with no noticeable lag.
Their are a number of 3rd party apps that intergrate with google voice, sign up for the service first, I made a deposit on it years ago and make and take calls on it, no problem, with no charges. If they leave v/m the service transcribes the voice mail and sends it to me via email, which is very nice option, along with spam/call block type features it beats the hell out of what the LEC's offer.

Google gives me a phone number and I will be able to call other phones? or it is more like Skype or Viber - that I can call to people with Skype or Viber only? will the people I call to need to pay something?
**Edit : I searched for "Google Voice" in Play Store but I didnt find it, I think it's not available in my country.
I guess I will need to root and install stock rom, is there a guide for doing it on Galaxy Tab 2 10.1?
So is it possible to make VoIP calls on a wifi only model? Like with GVoice over an internet connection? Or is there a better app?

It's possible IMS Settings could have that purpose, I've seen mention of it in regard to some T-Mobile devices however IMSLogger+ has no known function whatsoever, it's simply an app called logger that has access to everything you do and everything your id does in relation to your device. As far as I can tell there is absolutely no cost in disabling this application so until someone can identify a function that requires this to be enabled, it's simply common sense to do so.
Further, and I have no idea if it's relevant or not, but even it's naming convention is different from the other associated applications:
com.sec.ims 1.0
IMS Service 1.0
IMS Settings 1.0
com.sec.imslogger 1.20150211_LDM
I understand I'm offering an incomplete picture here, but our corporate 'benefactors' have a long history of being as shady as they possibly can be until they are caught and then they just try something else... Our data is a commodity resource to these people so they'll do what they can to acquire it.
In the end it's a question of trust. I don't, so I uninstalled it, but I wanted to pass on the information should anyone else want to do the same.
Another NSA feature for the American fellows.

If your country or carrier doesn't have VoLTE then you won't have it enabled on your phone, that's why you can't find it.
EDIT:
You can check here if your carrier has it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VoLTE#Deployment
So far it's only launched in Canada, Czech Republic, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, and USA. But even in those countries, only a few carriers have it.
Good old NSA must have had something worked out with Samsung. I bought mine in Hung Coc* as well and it too came with this IMSlogger as well that has and asks for every permission you never even thought about. No uninstall option either.
Every permission possible has been ticked by developer.

Silent Logging is not turned on by default that's why it's safe to disable.
From the looks of it, it logs diagnostic info from the cell modem. I think it's only ever used for diagnostic purposes though and is not ever turned on normally. You can enable in Service Mode or if you set system property dev.silentlog.on set to "on".
If you don't have any of the log files at:
Code:
/data/log/Slog_ril_xxxxx.log
/data/log/Slog_main_xxxxx.log (where xxxxx is the time the log got saved)
Or the config file at:
Code:
/data/slog/SilentLog
...then you don't have Silent Logging running.
As for IMSLogger, it doesn't look nefarious. It is for VoLTE though, so has anyone tried if VoLTE still work when you have IMSLogger disabled/deleted. Mind you, VoIP or Skype or any other IP/SIP over wifi or LTE is NOT VoLTE (VoLTE is specifically optimised for voice using IMS whereas none of the others are). So to test, make sure you are actually using VoLTE (and that you have it enabled in your carrier plan) and not some other VoIP solution.
It's LMS Logger
And it stands for LetMeSpy I found it on my phone as well
IMSLogger+ is used by Samsung engineers to get the processor logs and interfaces logs from the phone for debugging purposes. In Engineering firmwares it can export the IP traces in PCAP format and it has a nice interface to see all the VoLTE/SIP messages in real time. Basically it can log all the calls signalization, excluding the voice packets.
It's launched from the IMS Settings application that is used to customize VoLTE/VoWIFI/RCS parameters for each operator.
By default the IMSLogger+ doesn't log anything, Below you have a movie done from my rooted Samsung S6 Edge G925F that shows how to launch the application. I'm sure IMSLogger+ can be disabled without any impact to VoLTE. Maybe Samsung should have done it from the very beginning.

From Chinese L00 to US/International L29, early thoughts

First of all, I am from Canada on the Rogers network. I originally bought the Chinese version from Kijiji and had it for about three weeks or so. Awesome phone. I had the usual issues with notifications working then not working but otherwise it was great. Now the L29 has full Google integration to the point where core apps cannot be removed. It even has Android Pay (although it does not work in Canada yet) where the L00 had HiWallet or something like that. But the main thing, knock on wood, is since Friday notifications have worked flawlessly. I noticed that the L29 only has 6 levels of zoom in the camera with B138 (I had 10 levels with B156 on the L00). It also displays 4GLTE on the L29 as apposed to just 4G on the L00 though I know I was getting LTE speeds. So far I am I am enjoying my decision to change to the L29. One small thing I noticed is I swear there was an arrow to hide the navigation keys when in an app on the L00 but it is not there on the L29. A small thing but I liked it. I am sure there are other things that I have missed but that is all that I can think of for now.
Dhatw.
You are correct about the zoom and the hide navigation button. It appears on other firmwares/models.
I had the Chinese version and i also have the New Uk version MHA-L09 running b26 and they both had the navigation

B126 you mean? The UK build is mha-l09c432b126?
Sorry yes B126 typo lol
Just a quick update, it has been six full days now and I am still getting all my notifications in a timely manner. No issues what so ever in that department. Hopefully, this marks the end of the "notification bug" for all.
Cheers, Dhatw.

I also have the chinese 6/128 version which I bought in HK from my last business trip, I am in US now and trying to change to L29. But I am seeing 2 problems, 1st there is no OEM unlock option in the developer's menu on the phone, 2nd the link to Huawei's unlock website keeps taking me back to the Huawei login window.
Has anyone else faced these 2 problems? How have you resolved this? Thanks in advance.

Contact @duraaraa and ask him if he can help you with rebranding to L29c432b138 and once that is completed, go here to unlock your device, https://www.dc-unlocker.com/. it will cost you a few bucks but totally worth it as you get the unlock code right away. Use the FAQ / tutorial pages to learn how to get the unlock code.
I used FunkyHuawei when it was still in service to change to L29c432b138 and then paid for unlock code at the link i provided. I got the unlock code within a min or less. it took more time reading the tutorial and running their software.
Hi, I also had the same 2 issues.
1) No OEM unlock option: I managed to unlock anyway so I suggest just give it a try
2) Keep going back to Huawei login: I just kept trying. Think I tried with different browsers as well. Eventually I got through
NOTE: If you want to flash TWRP ensure you have deactivated "Find my phone". Gave me headaches (thank you duraaraa)

Chrome doesn't work
I just figured out the solution for the "always going back to login" problem, it seems the Google Chrome browser doesn't work. I have tried with IE and it worked the first try itself.
One question, when you perform a rebranding from L00 to L29 following FunkyHuawei method at funkyhuawei.club/rebranding, does the phone behave like an original L29 version? Meaning you will have all Google services and OTA updates as any other original L29 phone? Or is there any difference at all?

Guide To Enabling Video Calling On Unlocked Note 8 With T-Mobile

Hey everyone, I got my unlocked Note 8 yesterday and have been using it with a T-Mobile sim card. I spent a bunch of time trying to get the built in video calling to work and I finally got it, so I thought I would post a guide so the next person doesn't have to do the leg work.
Here is what I did, and I can now call other T-Mobile users via dialer based video calls: (the one down side is all numbers show the video call option, even if they are not T-Mobile customers, the calls just turn into audio when the other person answers)
1. Download Shortcut Master from app store (Light version works, but it's a great app, support the dev if you can)
2. Open the app and go to the menu (three dot's top right) and select app explorer
3. Scroll down to IMS Settings and select it.
4. Scroll down to ImsSettingsLauncherActivity (last item on my list) select it and hit launch.
5. Select IMS Service Switch and under that turn on everything on that screen. (For me most things (especially RCS items) were disabled by default, but when I looked at a friends S8+ settings they were all on so I tried that and all works now.)
6. Make video calls!
That's it, you should be able to make video calls from the dialer now.
Hope this helps someone! Thanks to the app dev and everyone on here for all the help I have gotten over the years!

How did you get this to work? i followed the guide and it shows the video icon in the dialer but when i call a friend with the exact same setup it says "video calling is currently not available" and then only does voice.

Nevermind i got it ha. you gotta place the phone call as a normal call THEN hit the video icon during the call
Tried it for unlocked on Sprint...lol...no go..

As far as I'm finding on XDA, we'll need to flash the CSC from a T-mobile device to get this working. When I googled it, I found this thread in the S8 forum with a utility for switching CSCs but I am not sure if it would work for the Note 8, and in my case really not sure if it would work to flash a Tmobile CSC (Snapdragon device) on my Korean Exynos model.
Anyway, check it out and let me know what you think: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...ility-flashable-csc-selection-v1-0-0-t3605264

As far as I'm finding on XDA, we'll need to flash the CSC from a T-mobile device to get this working. Interesting, good to know and thanks for the info. I won't be getting the unlocked one, I'm getting the international version for rooting so we'll see if it works with that. Sure hope it does because tmobile reception is abysmal where I live.
I have a t moble variant, I want to flash the unlocked firmware but will able to flashback to the t mobile firmware if I wish? that's the only thing stopping me from flashing the unlocked firmware. the video calling was a big deal for me so thank you for figuring this out. also are you 100% on the unlocked firmware or do you have the t mobile CP flashed with the unlocked firmware?

UN-Lock Missing 5G Bands on OP8 Pro

Hello Guyz,
Have been tinkering recently with trying to tweak my carrier_policy.xml file ( tutorial available here https://mt-tech.fi/en/modify-oneplus-7-pro-5g-8-and-8-pro-nr-lte-a-band-combos/ ) with Notepad++ in order to unlock more / as much as / all 5G bands I could possibly get from my device (CN IN2020).
Anyone has tried yet? It seems I can't manage to get 5G (yet) where I am at the moment (Thailand).
The main Telecom operators claim Oppo X2 can get 5G but they don't know about OP8 Pro... Well, the 2 devices aren't that different in their hardware, are they?
I attached my xml file on this thread.
Any help is more than welcome
Hi @Surfeur-des-Reves and nice you have found my site
Can you get log from me https://mt-tech.fi/en/how-to-get-4g...droid-phone/#OnePlus,_Oppo_and_RealMe_devices ? Put this Carrier Policy back to your phone and then just reboot. Please collect then logs so then i can confirm 5G support. Also you should able see 5G icon.
Do you have Oppo X2? Can you get log from Oppo device? Same method should work with Oppo too.
OnePlus have carrier policy just allow 5G certain networks. Other networks by default disabled. I don't know much Oppo but there could have similar system or not. It's just different configuration.

Hello Olkitu,
Thanks for coming back to me regarding this issue with 5G bands on OP8 Pro. Unfortunately, I cannot manage to get the required logs, as it says "cannot get logs" after I finish the process and want to get them. Moreover, I'm sorry, I don't have any Oppo X2...
I'll investigate with Oneplus Thailand and see if they can help me regarding my issue. Thanks for your kind help anyway

Strange error - do you have SIM-card in? Of course to get logs your phone must be connected to network. Or some reason this logcat doesn't work IN2020 model - it worked fine with other models... Just sad because that was only way i could confirm 5G support without root.

Sure I have SIM card in my device, and I can get other logs but not this one, unfortunately. I don't know if it's because I'm using a custom kernel (CleanSlate 1.2.0) as well as xXx No-Limits 11.5 Magisk module or if it's some issue that is specific to my IN2020 model... One thing for sure, I am rooted, so if there is any other way for me to get the data you need, just let me know and I'll gladly follow your instructions.
Cheers!

Aah that custom kernel could cause this issue. That could be reason why logkit doesn't work. Maybe this kernel doesn't have diag so maybe QPST doesn't work too?

QPST works and I could easily get access to the carrier_policy.xml file, through EFS explorer. As you say, the custom kernel might be responsible and developer may have removed some "un-needed" logcats that would slow the CPU down. I will flash another kernel and see if I can get the logs we need, but even if I get them, I've no knowledge of python so I may forward you the log file directly instead, if you're ok with this.

Yes i'm okay with qdml log file With scat there is also possible on fly record logs but it's bit more complicated. Hope get success with another kernel.
Do these instructions still work? I am in the same boat.

Well, I have been trying to get those logs using 3 different kernels, with the same result, always the same error after the "log recording process" is finished: "Cannot get log" message. Anyway, it's okay, I can live with 4G+ instead of 5G. If there is any other way, please let me know. Thanks anyway

Well i think you can get 5G working without logkit... I just was interested about your log and that log is way to confirm you have 5G enabled... Otherwise not easy really... With CellMapper you should of course see 5G details and when it's connected.
I've actuallyjust been told today by OnePlus Thailand that even though(some of) the 5G bands used by my carrier are compatible with my device OP8 pro, they are in 'testing phase' and it should be activated "by the end of the year".
Might be some bull**** though, hard to know for certain.

That could be possible. They like to test before enable 5G - i think about same as VoLTE/VoWIFI... But atleast we have hack to enable it manually...
root or no root settings database editor like in pics or activity launcher so you can enable bands is easy way

Installed SetEdit but couldn't manage to get my modified settings saved, would definitely not survive a reboot anyway. About Launcher Activity, here is what I'm getting through RFToolkit:

This is for the IN2020 Global phone. Wonder how to activate the 5G bands that are shown at the bottom of picture...
I'm also in Thailand and using AIS but my device is IN2023 purchased from AIS Store , are you on AIS as well? I have also tried editing the carrier policy and tried many different ones, but the most I could get was seeing this 5G DCNR Restricted(EPS Feature) = True in Cellmapper app. Also I have contacted both AIS and Oneplus and got the same reply as you did. I can't understand why they cannot enable it for Oneplus when they support Oppo Find X2 Pro.

I couldn't save the settings as well, just resets everytime you close and reopen the app, and my RFToolkit also doesnt have any NR bands ticked.

I am on True. I wish I could help more, but for now, I decided to go with their (already fast) 4G+. If any future update brings 5G here, it should and will be without modifying the carrier files or tweaking our phone.
By the way, are you also affected by the thermal throttling on your phone too?

Yes, I was also waiting for them to bring it officially, but since its gonna take time, thats why i decided to play around with the carrier policy file as well.
And yes, my phone does heat up more than usual at times, most of the times when its on mobile data, and also during sunny outdoor conditions using camera etc brings up the overheating warning. But since the latest update 10.5.11 AA , I didn't experience this yet, but I'm not sure yet if they have brought some fixes or not since its too soon to tell. I don't have any thermal throttling when playing games though.
