5g in Hungary with vodafone? - OnePlus 8 Pro Questions & Answers

i don't understand why can't use on my phone the Vodafone 5g. The OP sell the 8Pro like 5g phone. But the Voda in Hungary use not supported 5g band. i heard in Netherland has the same problem with Vodafone. Is this thing all over with Vodafone?

No problem here in the Netherlands with Vodafone on A11.

it's good to hear. I saw this on oneplus forum, but maybe it will be ok one day here in Hungary, too

I believe Hungary is 3500 so would come under n48/n78 so you should have it on the n78 at least

Only certain networks have 5G enabled in OnePlus. Here is list of 5G enabled networks and also how you can enable it on other networks: https://mt-tech.fi/en/modify-oneplus-7-pro-5g-8-and-8-pro-nr-lte-a-band-combos/

I don't understand why OnePlus won't enable 5G for all network providers like Samsung, Xiaomi or Huawei does. I'm using local network provider which supports 5G but is not in the list, so I have to use QPST application to modify system files and the 5G finally works.

Many providers like Samsung, Huawei, Motorola, ZTE, Google also require some certification from provider before enable 5G. Xiaomi have by default 5G enabled but that is how many manufacturers do.
I recommend contact to your own local provider and they should work with OnePlus to get 5G enabled by default.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G on T-Mobile and unlock 5G bands if possible...

Hi I am interested in buying the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5g mainly because T-Mobile is going live with 5g where I live on Decemeber 6th 2019. But from what I know the this phone doesn't support the 5g bands for T-Mobile.
I heard that there is a way to unlock those bands on Qualcomm devices and this phone uses the Snapdragon SOC.
Can this be done?

So the bands for 5g that tmobile supports is not dependent on just the processor, its also dependent on what the manufacturer decides on. As with all phones, you need to see what is the most compatible cell phone provider for that phone. If the mi mix 3 does not support tmobile bands, there's no way to force it to.

Correct. I've had a discussion on a Mi Mix 3 5g thread where this guy says it's a update thing not a hardware thing. Which I feel he's clearly wrong. Cell bands have nothing to do with updates, it's a hardware thing.
Dear slimegpod,
The frequency is supported in hardware but we did trials and only the Vodafone and global rom version has the Vodafone de 5g Network activated.
So I am on eu rom and cannot use Vodafone de 5g only Telekom and I am planning to switch ROMs but waiting for a moment to unlock since I will lose all my data.

Yes but I'm in the States and no carrier supports the Mix 3 5g. What other ROMs are you waiting for to install?
Carrier Support Not needed for mi mix 3 5g
Dear slimegood,
I called my carrier and the result was that they communicated the values to connect to the 5g network to Xiaomi and they need to add it to their firmware. The problem being that some variants of the firmware have not picked up the configuration options.

Any luck? The phone does not support 5G out of the box. According to manufacturers website, "5G function will be available via OTA update. Update times depend on your specific carrier and network."
Let us know if you find a way to do it without the OTA update.

There should be a option under network settings. I it seems the development for this device is crap though (as far as the updates are concerned). It sucks it's on MIUI v10 which I understand why but they still should've had this figured out before releasing it.
Thanks.
Well thanks for the feedback, if the firmware gets released somebody let me know. I really like the phone, but compatibility with USA 5g is really important to me.
i dont think it will ever get 5g support in the states - it uses a different 5g tech than what the us telecoms are proceeding with as far as i was told.
Stating that - i use it on t-mobile and i get great 4g in most places.

Have anyone tried OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren Edition with another US Carrier

Hi everybody,
We moved to T-Mobile and got a new iPhone XI and a OnePlus 7 T Pro 5G McLaren. My wife is not happy with the quality of the audio and what to switch back to Verizon or AT&T, and I wonder if any of you have tried the OnePlus with those carriers and if the phone works with them as well as 5G
Thanks for your responses.
Happy holidays,
Guillermo
Verizon is CDMA and I dont think the oneplus from tmobile will work
I tried mine on Sprint last night but I couldn't get it working. I read that once they merge it will work on that Network so I would think it would work but maybe I'm wrong. I'm going to play with it some more.

CDMA doesn't matter anymore and is being shut down. Verizon only allows new devices on its VoLTE network and the phone supports all of Verizon's bands.
But the main problem is that Verizon won't allow the device for purely arbitrary reasons if the BYOD check rejection is any indication. Same goes for Sprint.
It should work fine on AT&T minus 5G support. If you had bought the Note 10+ 5G from T-Mobile, I believe that does support AT&T's low-band 5G (assuming you have the right plan) that just launched.

So far no one has tried. :crying:
I had my T-Mobile 5G McLaren unlocked for T-Mobile.
It works with a Verizon Sim with data only.
When I try to make it a outgoing call the phone app crashes and there is no incoming and outgoing text messages but data works just fine.
The OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren takes advantage of T-Mobile 600 MHz lowband 5G; currently, no other US carrier supports 600 MHz lowband 5G. Consequently, if you unlocked the sim on the 5G McLaren, you could use with other carriers but you would currently lose access to lowband 5G with other carriers. Moreover, as far as I know, the 5G McLaren does not have an antenna for mmWave 5G, so you would not be able to utilize mmWave 5G on any carrier. In my experience, modern call quality is more dependent upon the particular phone than carrier, so maybe your spouse could try a different phone than whatever current one? Good luck!
I messed with it some more and have had some success. I already have mine sim unlocked. I'm not worried about the 5g as that is a joke. I can't get more than 2mb down and 1mb up with 5g. Yes you are reading that correctly. TMobile sucks in new Orleans. I am getting LTE with Sprint and was able to make calls. I will post back once I get it all figured out.

This is false. AT&T is live with n5 (850 MHz) in a dozen or two cities. It's the same dumb approach they used for HD Voice, but 5G is being lit up market by market.

I don't think n5 is enabled in the firmware. T-Mobile's 600 MHz lowband 5G uses n71. T-Mobile planned to add n41 if the Sprint Merger goes through. So, I don't think someone would be able to use it on AT&T n5, because the n5 band is not enabled in the firmware.
Correct. n5 is only enabled on the AT&T and T-Mobile branded Note 10+ 5G. Maybe Sprint's too if it ever shows up. Even then, I'd only trust the AT&T one for obvious reasons.
If anyone ever gets around to playing around with the McLaren 5G in QXDM or QPST, it would be fascinating to see what the modem is actually capable of and whether anything can be enabled. There should be no problem with the antenna and chip supporting it.

The OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren 5G has the Snapdragon X55 chip in it. Which means it supports all current US based forms of 5G. However the chip is software locked by OP to just low band, I assume until TMobile releases mid and high band.
I have a unlocked 7t pro mclaren that i got from t mobile. I have it on at&t right now. It's working out great. But as said be for the 5g does not work on at&t right now. The one thing that i did do was update the oneplus logkit. So i could enable volte and video calling. But still no calling over WiFi with at&t.

The phone can be used on Verizon fully. You need a Sim and you also need to call in to tech support and have them set your account up for CDMAless.
Hello,
Idk how much this will help you but, I’ve been an ATT subscriber for over 5 years, I live in Naples FL, and have traveled around the state and always have good service. I keep ATT because it’s easy to switch your SIM card and use the next phone on the networt, I buy a lot of unlocked phones. I am currently using the OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren edition, not the 5G version, on the network and all is well. ATT is great but, I am thinking of switching to T-Mobile once the other phones on my account are paid off, only because of T-Mobiles less expensive plans.

How to enable 5G?

Today Vodafone NL launched 5G in part of the Netherlands and I was anxious to start using it. However I can't seem to find a way to enable it on my OP8Pro I can only choose 2g / 2g+3g / 2g+3g+4g
I am using 2 simcards and am aware that using dualsim can bother the 5g option. Only tray 1 supports it for now according to OP. Still when I remove the 2nd Sim I don't get 5g
Anyone have a clue how to enable it?
Here's what I see in Sim settings
I think you need a specific 5G card for that, I might be wrong. Also your mobile data plan needs to support 5G.

According to my provider both my simcard and my data plan support 5g, they even started that I should have massive reception at my location. I tested it with a Samsung S20 and it works like a charm. Somehow my OP8Pro doesn't work and Vodafone doesn't want to help because they don't sell the OP.
Well, according to the manual, you should see the option 2G/3G/4G/5G (Automatic)...
Also, I found this in the manual too:
Restrictions in 5GHz band
The device is restricted to indoor use only when
operating in the 5150 to 5350 MHz frequency
range in following countries:
AT, BE, BG, HR, CY, CZ, DK, EE, FI, FR, DE, EL, HU, IE, IT, LV, LT, LU, MT, NL, PL, PT, RO, SK, SI, ES, SE, UK

And these are the bands supported by the OP8: n1, n3, n7, n28, n78
And these by the S20: n1, n3, n5, n7, n8, n28, n40, n77, n78
So it looks like the S20 supports 4 extra bands which the OP8 does not(n5, n8, n40, n77).
I don't know what band Vodafone is using in the Netherlands unfortunately, couldn't find information about this.
What you could try is to reset the APNs in the Network settings to default, then restart the phone. Other than this, I'm clueless.
One more thing. Make sure the SIM is in the first slot indicated by SIM1.
It seems they're using Dynamic Spectrum Sharing over the 4g bands but not sure which one(s) they use. Sadly the s20 does work so it seems it must be one of the bands the OP8Pro doesn't support

It does support it but it has to be enabled by a firmware update. I read it on an other forum. Iets met Tweakers

Speak with your provider, it's not something you can turn on on your device.
Also might be noteworthy, when I had two Sims in it wouldn't do to 5G. Soon as I put just my contract one in I saw 5G.

That's probably why it doesn't work because they don't sell it. Some unlocked devices lack proper carrier settings for that stuff.

Vodafone Netherlands is using a part of the existing 1800 4g bandwidth for 5g. (N3)
Don't expect it to be faster then the existing 4g.
The other providers are not going to support 5g existing frequenties. But instead will wait for the government to auction the new 700 and 1400 in June. all providers are already installing the radios and antennas for those frequenties through the country. So expect to be able to use 5g in the Netherlands in June in most major city's.
Unfortunately the needed 3500 will not be made available by the government in the Nederlands till 2022.
Greetings from a Dutch telecom engineer.

How do you mean it is disabled? (you posted another thread about this)
Do you have 5G listed under your preferred network type? (should say 5G / 4G / 3G / 2G (Automatic) )
If so, then 5G is enabled on the handset.
If not, do you have 2 SIM cards inserted? - if you do, 5G will be disabled
Is your ONE SIM card 5G enabled? - if not, 5G will be disabled

OnePlus 8 Pro iN2020 version?

Is this a specific region designation? Does it differ from the USA model at all?

That's not actually 5G I'm sure, use cell mapper and see if it says LTE+NR or just LTE, If it doesn't show +NR, you're getting a false 5G flag that is reporting a 5G capable tower but you aren't actually connecting to 5G.
See the screenshots below for comparison:

OnePlus 8 Pro IN2020 China model support only n41 5G band used in USA. I try list all supported combos used in TMUS: https://cacombos.com/device?model=IN2020&combolist=america_tmus_plmns . This model example doesn't support widely used n71 low band 5G.

Thank you for this! So these towers can't emit a 5g signal. Do you know why?

T-Mobile is using the upper later indicator (a cell site that supports NR ENDC capability) to show the 5G signal icon in your status bar, not actual NR connectivity. So when you see the 5G indicator, it just means you're connected to a site and band that supports aggregating LTE+NR (ENDC), not that you're necessarily connected to NR.
So even if your phone does not support any T-Mobile 5G NR bands, it will still show 5G in the status bar if the cell site you're connected to supports aggregating LTE and NR together. T-Mobile even has cell sites broadcasting the upper later indicator with no 5G NR signal nearby, so even phones with T-Mobile NR bands will show the 5G icon a lot of the time without an actual NR signal.
The IN2020 does not support T-Mobile N71 NR.

unlock N77 band on oneplus 8 Pro

I am living in a region which only got n77 for 5G network
Just wondering can it be done via pc software editing or something like the volte method.
Its brother find x2 pro comes with n77 by default, but it is not officially available on onelpus 8 pro.
I'm trying to find out about unlocking bands using regional firmware but even Oneplus aren't giving me a straight forward answer on this
I brought oneplus 8t 5g from India to Bangkok. operator in Thailand(AIS) uses N41 Band and in India N78... Here 5g is not working, what can i do to make it work.. kindly help
My 8 pro in my (network) country does not have 5g. (I have a new 5g SIM)
I talk to OnePlus tech and they say that it will be solved in future updates.
It will be faster if each one of you talk to Oneplus tech and they see that many people need more 5g bands.
