I guess I will get the 8t some time in the future but not yet now.

I got the OnePlus 8T and it's a decent upgrade, but if you are craving for the LineageOS and the add-ons, I would recommend to wait, we will get the conversion package for converting the T-Mobile OnePlus 8T to International version which is very easy to unlock. I got lucky and got it unlocked early in exchange for keeping on paying it off.

For me this year is garbage, mixed upgrades. Take the 8 and the 8T for example, there's always upgrades (no IP rating, no Wireless charging, it has 90/120Hz, has a punch hole and faster charging, it has more cameras (u only need telephoto and ultra wide) and new colours). If I had to upgrade, it would be the 8 Pro(BLUE) or S20FE or S20+ (Only the SD model tho).
I'd rather wait for next year, I don't like the corner punch hole and OnePlus would have to do something new for the 9 or 9 Pro(or make the pro model more special). Maybe a under-screen camera or going back to the full screen (7/7T Pro), they have to make the front different in some way (they can't just keep the same thing, but that's just settling). The 9 might be flat and the Pro curved? Its like OnePlus has to hold back for phones next year, 9 might have wireless charging, but no IP rating for example and the Pro would have everything (higher price)

Maybe you already did but i just got the pixel 5 and op 8 pro, both going back and i'm sticking with the 6t. Not enough of an upgrade for 8 or 8t to justify changing price imo. 8 pro though nice and good at 799 is pretty huge and I would probably keep it if I could get 5g on it and vowifi on Att. Would love the 8t if wireless charging was there, it would be perfect for me but as it stands hard to make the change.

U.S.A. 7x Owners: Do You Want To Upgrade Your Ram / Storage From 3/32 to 4/64?

U.S.A. 7X Owners..
Are you a little peeved that the BND-L24 U.S.A. variant only comes with 3/32 Ram/Storage.. while the rest of the planet gets 4/64 ?
Don't really care for the 7x in Black? in Red? or the Blue?
Maybe you prefer a nice Silver ? or perhaps a nice Gold colored 7x ?
Got an extra $50.00 or so bucks ?
Boy..... Do I have a deal for you.
Step Right Up !
And purchase your shiny new HUAWEI 7x !!!
That's Right...... *HUAWEI* 7x
You see.. in their infinite wisdom.. Huawei has now decided.. we kinda got SCREWED here in the good old U.S. of A. with our 3/32 variants..
So, they've seen fit to rectify that by throwning us the same bone they've thrown the rest of the planet.. in the form of one
*Honor Mate SE*
Which is nothing more than a rebranded 7x with 4/64 instead of 3/32...
Oh... and it comes in Silver & Gold instead of Black, Blue and Red.
Price looks to be $250.00.. instead of the $199.99 the 7x currently sells for now in the U.S.A.
Now... the Silver Lining in all of this is:
Will it LAUNCH with EMUI / OREO 8.0 ? .. the B192 update with Faical Unlock latest patches etc..
This one has me thinking.... (mainly for resale and moving up from Honor's *Sub-Brand* title/ status) it MIGHT just be worth the $50.00 to make the switch..
If You Like.. Read more about it here: https://www.pocket-lint.com/phones/...e-is-a-rebranded-honor-7x-destined-for-the-us
Same Old Same Old..

Nah...
Same Old Same Old......... Nougat at launch.. (and god only knows when 8.0 will finally get to the U.S.of A... always last on the country's to get it list) .. so same old 7x not worth extra cash for 1Gig of Ram and 64Gb of storage.
And no guarantees (TeamKirin excepted) of any more Developer Support.
The View 10... or the Tried & True OnePlus 5T ( and OnePlus 6 in June.. ) seem to be the Sweet Spot.. Price and Interest wise at XDA (The View 10 is pretty damn strong out of the box.. and gets a lot of press)
The ONLY Budget device now that Without Question will either launch with Oreo 8.0 ( 8.1 ? ) OR get MAJOR Developer's onboard is the Motorola G6 Plus with that Snapdragon 630 engine.
Living in the middle east, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, I bought a brand new 4gb ram 64gb internal storage for just $265 including delivery.
It is unfair you get bummed for certain products but so do many others. Places like Brazil, Columbia and parts of Eastern Europe get f***ed the hardest when it comes to tax and sky high prices on almost everything especially electronics.
The US is usually the cheapest when it comes to cheaper pricing when it comes to electronics among many other items. Computer components and such are the cheapest in the US compared to any other place, so in a way consider yourself lucky.
In the UK, we get f***ed hard when it comes to taxes on pc hardware.

Yeah.. I Feel You On The Taxation...
When it comes to Chinese phones in the U.S.A. , we are ALWAYS last on the list when it comes to getting updates.
I don't know if politics plays a part in this or not.
Whenever Huawei / Honor figures out how to make EMUI / OREO 8.0 work on other devices besides their Flagships.. and actually starts the regional rollouts..
The U.S.of A. will be the VERY LAST region to get this major update.. That's where your region has a HUGE advantage.
We all know, China will take care of their own 1st.. Then will come India, Euoupe / UK, Mars & Venus.. then they'll take a weeks vacation..... then, they'll come back and start rolling it out 1 city at a time to the good old U.S.of A.
It's been almost a month now (well.. 3 weeks for sure) since the 1st regions started receiving the B192 / Facial /AR update.
Has your region received that update yet?
Someone (I guess on here from Honor USA ) posted in one of my threads that, the U.S.A. would start receiving EMUI / OREO 8.0 in April...
I'll bet $$$ out of my Next Device Fund that we will get no sniffs of that update in April...
May / June is much more realistic for the U.S. of A. if how they are rolling out the B192 update is any indication of how they do business.
I think I'll wait and see what the Mate SE holds. I've been wanting a 7x for a while now, but Amazon is still showing out of stock. I'll either give it a couple months and see how the reviews are or see what the SE brings. Maybe they'll fix the Bluetooth/wifi issue and other nit picky things.

Sir.. You Know You Can Purchase The Device Directly From Honor's Website...
https://www.hihonor.com/us/index.html... if you are in the U.S. of A... I think, if you are a Prime Member you will have a little longer return period buying it through Amazon.. I had another thread where someone was told they could not even return their Amazon purchased deivce.. I posted proof that I did indeed return my Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 back in August with no issues whatsoever.. I am a Prime Member so, that may have had something to do with it.. but keep that in mind as oppsed to buying it directly from Honor.. which has a 15 day return period.
To be honest.. Unless you prefer Gold / White or Silver/ Black to the Honor colors.. It's The EXCACT Same Phone.
I thought maybe.. just maybe by it not being the "Sub-Brand" it would launch with 8.0 and all the other goodies already installed...
No Such Luck... It's the same phone with the Huawei branding.
3 other devices to Strongly consider...
The Honor View 10 ( My 1st choice  )
The OnePlus 5T/ 6
The Motorola G6 Plus (should be unveiled at MWC in a few days)
Either of these would be a worthy investment.. the 7x is too.. but if you are into Developer Support, these devices are going to get considerbly more attention than the 7x.
If you alread have the funds for the 7x.. and don't seem to mind waiting a couple of months more... it would give you time to slip another few hundred away and have the option to get a 6GB / 128 (rumored) full boat Moto G6 or the incredible Honor View 10 or OnePlus 5T / 6
One of those 3 will be my next option for sure.
P.S.
No Bluetooth or Wi-Fi issues on my 7x whatsoever.. Actually, I have no Mechanical or Software Glitches period.
But my 7x is Completely Stock with a locked bootloader. :good:

Thank you for all the info. Currently using a moto e4 and it's been doing fine except I want tether capability on cricket. Moto locks that down. I had the G5+ and liked it.
I'd like to purchase on Amazon for the reason you listed. In USA and am a prime member so return should be no problem.
I used to unlock/root all my phones but haven't the past couple, haven't seen a need to.
My contenders right now are the 7x (mate SE), zte pro v8, or zte axon 7 mini.

I can't bring myself to get gold lol. I purchased a zte v8 pro to try. If I don't like I'll return it and get a 7x.
Since this is just a rebranded Honor 7X has anyone tried to root, bootloader unlock, and put TWRP on the Mate SE?
My question regarding Mate is who provides the software updates to the Device, Honor or Huawei.

This is my question as well. Just got a Huawei Mate SE and would like to root it..
You can also get your Huawei Mate SE via amazon here in the US. I bought my honor 7x (didn't want to spent 50 bucks more for a budget phone) through amazon and so far so good.

Worthy Successor to Nexus 5X?

OK so the N5X is 3 years old now... any new phones out or coming out that are similar in price (budget-mid price range), and will have similar custom ROM support?
Just curious, as my N5X is still going strong, but there seems to be a roadblock on getting Android Pie to be fully functional in the few attempts I see (encryption?)
I've been keeping an eye on the new Nokia #.1 devices, and other similar specc'd phones.
Thanks.

I replaced my Nexus 5x with an Essential PH-1 on Prime day. This is the first non Nexus device I ever owned but it's very much a spiritual successor to the Nexus lineup. I am waiting for it to go back on sale again so I can pick one up for my mom.
I would consider something like the OnePlus/Oppo if it were available on Sprint but unfortunately my device selection is limited being on this provider.

Those are still pretty spendy at $400+. I'm looking for the $300 or less range, same as the 5X was. I really can't see spending that much for a phone, as I'm not quite as hooked into it as some seem to be, I just need a nice reliable device I can customize easily like the 5X.
Nokia 7+ or Xiaomi Mi A2. Both Android One.
Nokia 7.1 (processor isn’t very good though), Nokia 7.1 Plus (awesome if launches globally near China price) or Nokia 8.1 (TBA).

Yeah I was looking at the Nokia phones as well. I'm in the US, so want to purchase them here so they have a warranty valid in the US.
Any more thoughts on this topic as the holiday sales are upon us?

I did... a little quirky, kept locking up, other little issues. I don't think Pie will be viable for the N5X in the long run.
Right now I'm running latest Oreo stock but rooted with Magisk and Franco kernel.
I'm asking about new phones, not ways to keep my old phone running.
Thanks.
@g90814, you're welcome
The Pixel 1 and Pixel 2 prices are about 300-500 bucks now. And that is very good.

you can try the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE or The Pocophone F1 the Poco has a flagship specs with snapdragon 845 but its camera is not pretty good because Xiaomi just nerf the Poco's camera in the stock camera so you have to install a google camera. Mi 8 SE has snapdragon 710 which is quite rare and according to some people, it's a Snapdragon 845 with a weaker GPU.

Xiaomi Mi 8 SE not available in US as of now unless you want it shipped from China.
Pocophone is an option, but a little expensive for my tastes ($345 for 64GB model) and not available with US warranty (yet).

From everything I found, at that price point, the Pocophone is the best one, anything cheaper is way worse and not many things a little bit more expensive like at $400 or $500 are still not as good as it is. You don't really have to worry about warranty if you buy on Amazon though, if Xiaomi don't give you warranty, Amazon will as well as the resellers so don't worry about that. Bellow that 300 bucks, you may also get some other Xiaomi phones with good specs but most of them are using snapdragon 6xx which is not quite good.
Essential phone is truly the lowest price replacement of good quality.
I wouldn't recommend that pocophone for anyone in America because it doesn't work on Verizon or Sprint.
The pixel phones are all decent, but they have major hardware issues and look ugly.
LG makes the best looking and some of the most feature rich phones, but can't ever update software. (V30 is just an awesome phone form factor tho)
If I had to recommend a few replacements these would be it:
Galaxy s8 or newer Samsung flagships (TouchWiz is better than stock Android in 2018 amazingly)
Essential phone
LG v30*
Oneplus 6t (No other OnePlus phones though because the rest are beat by Galaxy s8/s9 and the essential phone at every price point)
*For v30 you must be a regular headphone jack user. That quad dac is amazing. Makes a $10 pair of headphones sound like $150, and regular car speakers sound like a full on audio upgrade. Being an LG there is next to no software support and no dev support, but the audio almost makes up for it.

Other option to consider however....
Downgrade to upgrade.
The 5x sucks you'll be happier with a Galaxy note 4, note 3, or a Nexus 6 as they are all faster and better phones in 2018 due to having 3gb of ram.
Plus they have great dev support and in the note devices extended batteries that can last a long time. Going from a Nexus 5x to any flagship with 3gb or more of ram in the last 5 years is really a massive upgrade. That 1gb of ram is the difference between usable and unusable.

Thanks for all that, Nascar. Lot's to consider, but the 'downgrade to upgrade' is a valid point. I was eyeing some refurb Galaxy s# phones, maybe I'll go for that.
I have bought a OnePlus 6 with the discount from Black Friday (and that will be valid until Christmas, I think). It is exactly the same price as the Nexus 5x 32gb originally.: $429,00. In this sense I think it is a proper successor. It is a little big, though.
And I disagree with the post above. The S8 is a great phone, but it is worse than the OnePlus 6 in most aspects but the camera.

Anyone coming from s20 line of phones?

Using a Samsung galaxy s20 plus exynos version and very tempted by the oneplus 8 pro. My main concern though is the curved comers of the oneplus 8 pro as this is likely to make it difficult to hold the phone without accidental touch presses. Anyone else come from s20 line or considering coming from s20. What are your thoughts please especially now that the S20 line is coming down in price well second hand prices.

I preordered my OP8 pro 12/256 GB on April 15th, expected dispatch date is April 22nd (8/128 was sold out at the time I placed the preorder)
But now my Carrier has a special deal for S20 series, I can get S20+ (exynos) for around 715 euro on a 2 year contract. Ok, it is 8/128 GB version, but still it is 300 euro difference
My previous phone was S10+ (sold it last week) and I was pretty satisfied with it. I actually like OneUI and the possibility of rootless theming with Synergy
I'm undecided what to do now, whether to keep the preorder or to cancel it and take the S20+
important things for me as per priority order : camera, batt life, UI smoothness and theming..
how is your experience with S20+ ? camera, batt life etc ?

Phew that's a good deal buddy. My experience with my s20+ has been overall good. I don't really measure battery that much as I work from home so always have a charger. As for the camera I just take random pics and we all locked down in the UK so haven't been out to capture good pics. The experience overall has improved in terms of performance. I know they say the sd version is better compared to the exynos but have never used the sd so I cannot compare. The thing that worries me the most are the curved edges of the oneplus as they look really big and annoying. As I spend literally all day on my phone for work I would definitely find them hard to manage as most reviews keep on about them curves ?.

ebay, and yeah i can return it, and don't care if the seller doesn't like it. he mislabeled the ad for the phone having 66\71 bands for LTE when it didn't.
I hate samsung, i should've never gone back, what a nightmare especially with their CSC bs !
I have S20 ultra and just got my OP8pro. I havent set it up yet but checked it littlebit and i already hate that it has more curved screen than S20 has. Especially when Samsung started to get rid of curved screens...
I've been a Samsung user for many years, upgraded my Note 9 to the S20 Ultra and didn't feel satisfied. Today I received my OP8Pro 12Gb version and so far I'm blown away. What a mighty device, it makes me smile from ear to ear.
Let's see how this will remain after using this beast as a daily driver for a longer period.

I'm in the UK.
I was very surprised tbh, impressive, three used DPD
I am, my S20+ is on eBay now and hopefully my 8 Pro arrives today, would have preferred the blue but not an option in the UK so green it is.
Exynos is a mess this year and the camera still cannot cope with any movement at all in a scene.
I come from a long line of curved screen phones with accidental touch input..
This phone is not like that... curves are not as drastic as are made to look like on reviews.. And palm rejection is excellent as well. . just my 2 cents Love my OP8P in blue.
Right, so, I had my P30 Pro, and wanted to change with something better. Well, it's not, yet. I' e ordered S20 ultra, mega disappointed (camera, battery life, everything), then sold it, and bought s20+, which is far better, but still, the camera is the worst I've ev9seen. Try this, with a tripod: night, no light at all, from nowhere, night mode on, Galaxy S10, Note10+, S20+. Well, the camera, from s10 is impressive! And I'll post images soon. P30 was, and still is an amazing phone, at least for camera.
Now, taking these info in fact, and bringing the advantages from op8 pro, you have the answer. Op8 pro is way better for less money.

Im considering this currently with a s20 ultra with SD processor, but consider OP 8 Pro just for the development capabilities as flashing kernels, roms, etc.
However with all the FP issue after unlock bootloader and doing all the customization options this phone would allow me to do it, im starting to doubt about making the change, im reading all the days this forum to see any updates regarding on those issues, because to keep it stock i would better stay with the s20 ultra.
Any thoughts?

No fingerprint issues that I've seen if you do everything correctly.
Even keeping it stock I would still go with the OP

What would be the correct steps in your thinking to just flash another kernel?
It would be my first OP so not able to compare between samsung vs OP, but if you do, what are the points that will make you go to the OP?

I am, my S20+ is on eBay now and hopefully my 8 Pro arrives today, would have preferred the blue but not an option in the UK so green it is.
Exynos is a mess this year and the camera still cannot cope with any movement at all in a scene.

I had the s20 ultra snapdragon version briefly. It was ok, but not much different from my note 10 plus. The OnePlus 8 pro is waaaaay better to me. Especially for the amount your paying $1500 vs $1000... OnePlus all day

Interested in getting this beast but some genuine questions please?

So in the UK, I can get the black shark 2, 8gb ram 128gb storage for around £250. Is it still worth it getting this phone, as I want it for my son. I also checked out the oneplus 6t which is more or less the same price but with a 845 processor. The good part with oneplus 6t though is the good software updates from oneplus. I'm worried about lack of updates from xiaomi on the black shark. What are your thoughts please and have the updates been coming through? Also how's the phone with the android 10 update? Is it running OK as I see so many people trying to go back to android 9!. I would really appreciate your thoughts on
- ongoing software updates as my son often keeps his phone for at least 3 weeks years.
- android 10, how is running on the shark.
- should I go instead for the oneplus 6t. Many thanks.
I’ve had my 2pro about a month now and, although hesitant at first, I was swayed by the price difference with other high-end phones. I’ve had the android 10 update OTA without problems, and it’s been running fine.
In short: I’m happy with the 2pro (snapdragon 855+)

Time for an upgrade

My xda brudda's. It's time for me to get a new one plus. The op8 and the op7mc are close to the same price. Iv been looking at how development has been going on both phones and trying to decide which to buy. I leave the fate if my purchase in your wise hands!
If you care about getting updates the fastest and directly from OnePlus along with better dev support, get the 8. If you don't care about having to wait a couple more months to get OOS11, or not being able to download updates directly from OnePlus, get the T-Mobile 7T Pro 5G Mclaren. Better specs, bigger screen, etc. Be sure to get an unlocked T-Mobile 7T Pro Mclaren if you don't plan on using it on T-Mobile.
That entire post is assuming you'd be getting the non-carrier OP8 and not the T-Mobile OP8. If it's T-Mobile 7TPro 5G Mclaren vs T-Mobile 8, then the choice is easy, the Mclaren.
Thanks buddy I was leaning towards the mclaren
