FORMAT DATA every rom switch... So boring... - Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Questions & Answers

Dear all,
every time we want to try a different rom changing 'logic', so changing from MIUI based rom to AOSP based rom or viceversa, or from A10 to A11 based rom... we HAVE to format data. Every time. So boring... But we have to, otherwise system / recovery will ask to us for a password that will not work.
There's a chance to avoid this issue? There's something to do to "keep" all the internal memory content even if we change rom?

There's no FIX unless your current rom and the rom you will install in next has the same encryption method.

Need help with ROM

Hi Everyone,
I have just installed a new ROM into my experia...and my question is..if i hard reset my device...it's going back to Sony Eric ROM...or it will go back to my new ROM????
Thank you
Restore
ROM, is ROM, it cannot technically be "written2 to or over written. A common misunderstanding from people while doing this is that their ROM is like a HDD, this is incorrect.
Think of your ROM as a Bootable CDRW or similar that is permentanly inside your PC, it can be used to reinstall your operating system as many times as you need. However, should the OS become corrupted (the storage part, probably on a HDD) you can just reinstall it from this CDRW.
If you decide the OS on your CDRW (ROM) is too old and want a new one, you can specifically overwrite this ReWritable device, but with specialist tools (A CD Burner) (Read: Firmware update)
In short, a hard reset will only restore the user storage and "volatile" portion of your systems memory, not the ROM section which from the device itself (within the OS) can not technically be overwritten.
You will simply go back to a fresh install of whichever Firmware is installed in your ROM.

[Q] Why so much CW hate ?

Starting this thread again as my previous one was deleted during the board's transformation yesterday...but I think it's important to bring up the subject.
Coming from an older Android terminal (Htc Magic), I still don't understand how so few dev's out there are actually using ClockworkMod Recovery for their ROM. I know, a lot of you come from WM 6.5, where USB-Flash was the only way to go but now things have changed ! If you are fan enough of Android to be willing to flash it completely to the Nand, wiping WinMo6.5, then go with it and start flashing your ROMS the Android way. The CW way !
As a reminder, CW allows to :
- Flash your ROMS from the SD card. Imagine you want to flash a new ROM but have to leave for 2 days without a computer; it's not a problem ! Put it on the SD card and flash it later !
- Easily implement new kernels or updates. Doing so, dev's can propose completely clean build with the option to flash as many add-on's, updates, kernels or fixes you want. Look here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=810471. You can't make it easier.
- Partition your SD card with an ext partition the size you want without the need of a software or a linux-based iso. If you are a Windows user, that's a huge time saver !
- Back-up ans restore. That's a HUGE bonus. Want to flash a new ROM ? Back-up all your current ROM (5 minutes), then flash the new one. Don't like after all ? Restore your backup in 5 minutes...
- For me (and here, I'm not my saying it's always the case, just FOR ME), sd data transfer through CW is two times faster than through MAGLDR.
- Many more...
The same goes for EXT. Using data.img is outdated, it's another WinMo days leftover. Ext is actually mounted as an internal memory, allowing Sense Roms. And the apps installed there won't need to be reinstalled every updates...
It's tough for a Android user like myself to find a proper ROM/Zip with data2ext support these days. Pretty much MDJ, thank God for him. It seems that there a lot of ROMS to choose from but actually there isn't. Especially when the DAF to ZIP tool from the board doesn't work with all the DAF's releases (most of the time it's actually the releases that are not made right).
So please, be an Android user and make the step. It's like you found the door but are afraid to come in...
Just go and read the CW tutorial thread if you are unsure. I'll be willing to help also...

Idiot Question: When switching ROMs, can you just restore data partition?

I feel like you could clean flash, boot and set the ROM up, then reboot to recovery and restore the data partition and be good to go. Could it really be that simple?
Not sure how I've been an Android user for so long and I don't know the answer to this question. Any flack I get is hella deserved with this one, lol.
They must be based on the same romlike aosp,cm,oxy and so on
And even when you're switching to another ROM with same base, risks are high that there's some incompatible data layout between the ROMs datastore which will create interesting bugs (different layouts in configuration files and folder structures and so on)
I tried that when started messing with my phone, It sometimes works but with errors and apps no starting in my case. There are some apps that create a zip flashable of your apps which is safer to do.

external memory problem

hello everyone I need help with a problem I have with my Samsung j5 when i update it to android 6.0.1 with odin, since when deleting or adding a file to external memory the available space remains the same and the only way for it to change is to unmount the sd card and remount it
For example, if I have 3GB of available memory space and delete a 500MB file, it still appears that I have 3GB of space, this only happens when I use a third-party file explorer, since with the default it does not happen, since no information was found. this problem I would appreciate your help
Reinstall the software to your phone.......but check the correct firmware for your phone by checking the csc version with your baseband version......and then flash the software.......after that if u again face the problem, then install custom firmware for your phone.......The best custom rom is stock based rom like SEperience Rom
I have already installed custom roms as lineage os and viper os, which give me the same problem.
the only rom that worked for me is space os but i want to go back to the original rom,the model i have is j500h
Then u must go for another rom like SEperience 8.5......
Here is the link of Sep roms : https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...p-8-5-lite-galaxy-j2-2018-rom-t3821600/page16
If u want to download this, then enter the link and then enter the 2nd link......that is sep 8.5
with the custom ROM the error is fixed, do you know what could be the origin of the problem?

Asking about custom rom

Hello, I want custom rom on my OPPO A37f. But I need to ask before I doing it, sorry if my english broke.
1. Is there any custom room that have compatiblity for OPPO A37f? I searched Lineage and Arrow, but seems they doesnt have compatibility with A37f.
2. Is it difficult to install custom rom? Since i can't find any tutorial on A37f.
3. What should I do if I want my original rom back?
The reason i need to custom my rom, something eating up my storage about 7GB. It's not cache I'm sure it is, so I decide want to change my rom because I can't find how to delete it.
There's no stable ROM available for your phone, there's CyanogenMod Lollipop, and it's not stable. Even TWRP is not that stable.
If all you need is to check what's eating your storage, there's no need to flash custom ROM, cause it's impossible for system to hold over 7 GBs. Cache usually doesn't exceed ΒΌ GB.
So it's something inside your /data partition. Use a good file manager, and rearrange your files, amid the process, you'll see what's hurting you.
Thanks for answer. Do you have app suggestion for checking file like that? Also, do I need to root my phone?
