F800L : No service (cellular) after doing sh*t - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Hi guys
Received few days ago a F800L (Korean UPLUS provider), bought on Ali.
Everything worked great, excepted korean useless bloatware i wanna remove.
1st time, i tried ADB Shell to remove apps, it was perfect... But why not restarting on a fresh new firmware, without Korean ?
I downloaded H915 firmware, in LGUP, "forced" update with PARTITION DL, wipes at restart (Power Vol-, release Power and press Power again), and it's magic, no more Korean apps at restart.
No more Korean apps, and no more cellular network also :silly:
Well, it says "No service", IMEI is ok, WiFi is working, i now have a deluxe music player. :good:
So, what can i do ?
Bootloader is locked (and can't be unlocked, because it's a F800L).
ADB is ok, usb debug too.
I have hidden menus (Keypad *#546368#*915#)
So, why this hybrid F800L/H915 can't register cellular network ?
Help, please.

I would flash it to US996_usa using LUGP Patched.

Hello
US995 modem (LGUP, in Partition DL) give me IMEI NULL
With H915 modem, my IMEI is ok, but still no service (service disabled).
If no solution, gonna buy H990DS motherboard lol.

Have you opened up the v20 previously?
How hard to replace volume circuit AND physical button?
Too much covid stress. I banged the shet out of my v20 on the desk. Volume got dented. Have both items. Wondering if I should just replace the physical button
You seem like you know about roms and such so thought to ask. Cheers

Can't help, but there's a lot of V20 teardowns on Youtube.

Looks like this mobile is very easy to repair.

[D802] G2 randomly loose imei and baseband

Hi,
First sorry for english..
I had an hardware issue, I bought a new LG G2 32GB mainboard and battery.
After connecting everything, and boot. I had discovered that I have no imei and no baseband.
I flash the rom with an Open stock(Europe Open D80230b.kdz) that I find in this forum, but nothing change.
Many manipulation, many rom, tested and it work misteriously. I got the IMEI number and M8974A-AAAANAZM-1.0.190128 baseband.
I also discover that it a mainboard come from Israel ( from PELEPHONE operator ).
The phone work properly until reboot. and after reboot, I loose the imei and baseband.
Buy doing some factory reset, or installing rom, it come back randomly until I reboot.
Can anybody has a idea of how can I fix this issue ?
Thanks a lot !
Hi,
Me, back, again, with lot of questions....
After trying several ways, and several rom, I find one stock rom (France D80230b_00.kdz) that make data (LTE) work even after reboot.
I still unable to phone with....
I can receive SMS.
If I call, without changing, I loose connection (no bars ) and I like he searching a network....
If i cut data from menu, sometime I can phone, something, but it cut if call is too long...
Does any body know if it a modem driver issue ? or hardware issue? is it possible that the mainboard I bought was not a D802 32GB (how can I check )????
I try to connect QPST, to restore NV, but phone unknown.. And when I try with Qualcomm diagnostic port without ADB, it open 9025 but qpst not see open COM port ?
Thanks,

LG G6 ex-demo unit-legally acquired! H870V (dual sim)

Okay, so probably looks fishy, so to get one thing out of the way, if anyone wants to blame around how the device must've been stolen, I can make a video proof showing a purchase on eBay Stores close all the time, so what? And there is nothing bad about trying to make use of something that has no use anymore, so if you are planning to give me a moral lecture how I'm doing something evil by saving a good piece of valuable hardware from going to trash, you are welcome to turn your head away.
Now that we've eliminated the spammers, let's try to do something constructive
So this is the current state of the unit:
SW ver. V10f-OPT1-HQ.
Baseband ver. MPSS.TH.2.0.1.c3.1-00014-M8996FAAAANAZM-1.86009.21
Build num. NRD90U
Kernel ver. 3.18.31
What I'm trying to achieve is to make this unit have GSM network in EU, hopefully without touching the hardware, so that's the first thing I have to test. I read somewhere that it might be possible to achieve that by writing QCN and EFS with Octoplus box.
If someone can do a backup of their EFS (with Chimera possibly), I'd like to "borrow" it for a ride, just to see if that is true.
The other problem is that I cannot get my BL unlocked because I don't have an IMEI, so I have to hope for someone to make a workaround for this.
Probably could be achieved by QFIL flash, but that's never easy.
Since I don't know much about LG's FW files and how they work, I have to ask if it's possible to compile a "passable" KDZ containing unlocked bootloader or custom recovery with secure check modified so that I can get this thing opened?
Another thing which I have to report is that I found a totally legit way (at least on my FW ver.) to write/repair IMEI without root, just through service menu!
I don't know if other devices have this and if this is maybe not a new thing at all, but I find it pretty amazing!
If there is interest, I will provide some preview in comments, as well as APK if possible!
Right now I managed to write some generic IMEI.
It has a generator inside, it practically changes not only IMEI, but as well as MAC and some other stuff according to values which you set (I remember there is a region setting, so I selected EU_OPEN).
To make sure, I'm not trying to fake an IMEI and cheat my way through gaining network access and who knows what, but before I purchase the new EFS legally, I'd like to see if this HW is capable of running it.
So, another thing is that the network still isn't comming. I think the band can be set only on 1900 or something like that, but I think there might still be network limitation due to SW, no matter I flashed it with LG_UP and modem file got flashed normally as any other file.
Cell network is grayed out in settings, when I put the SIM in, it seems to detect it at first, but later in most of the SIM related settings which I tried to mess with in service menu it says that SIM is not detected. Generally when I remove SIM/SD card tray it detects it and asks for a SIM.
If there is nobody willing to borrow an EFS, I hope there is someone who really knows meanings of all these stuff in this service menu, who can guide me through a little bit.
I think there's chance that some settings there disable networking, and if I could copy and paste them from another device, it might wake up. It doesn't have reception at all, not even 112 and 911 at the moment, it detects no networks when I jump to manual network selection option (because I cannot access through settings), and that discourages me a little.
If there is any genius out there, get summoned please!
So you stole it?

Now let me steal your EFS
How does the service menu look on your G6? Did you check it out?

I didn't find a way to flash any other firmware. I think it's impossible to get network. I disassembled my own and compared the motherboard with the one that I found on Google images. It seems that a modem chip is absolutely missing from the device. That explains no network, even after generating EFS (at least in my case).
I don't know what is your level of knowledge, but for example, I've been trying to root Korean LG V10, and haven't succeed, although I've seen some websites selling custom root .tot firmware files, but I don't know is it possible to make or find those files for newer devices.

Hi! Is your sim card slot working? Maybe you can send some links for your solution? In my case is LG up saying that h870v is an unknown device. I think that i have the wrong LGUP_common.dll if I understood correctly. And couldn't find the right one.
And the System is using ca 20 Gb. Is it possible to unlock the bootloader without IMEI. Somehow to get it rooted?

H910 AT&T in Canada

Hello,
I bought a H910 off ebay, it said it was unlocked, the frequencies matched the ones of our carriers and it was not mentioned that the phone was AT&T.
Is there any way to get it to work on the local antennas?
I have attempted to :
- Use access points the carrier support
- Use the hidden menu to attempt to unlock frequencies, however the H910 has barely any options in there.
- Flash a H915 Rom in there while following the runningnak3d's guide : https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/root-h910-v10m-t3664500
It gave much more options within the hidden menus, total control over any bands, protocals etc. However, it is in my understanding that the modem doesn't work when flashing a H915 from H910 even if the
hardware is apparently the same.
I have then continued the root procedure thinking it might give me the functional modem back with the additionnal options of the H915 but that wasn't the case. I even gained a bad looking warning startup screen.
So now I am wondering..... is there any way to get the signal working? I didn't find any guide or any posts which seemed to indicate steps. It is pretty frustrating that they give us so much troubles even if the hardware has all the capabilities, damn carriers.
If nobody has any suggestions, could I know where I could get the same H915 rom used on the kdz within the root guide? I would like to keep that rom and see if applying the modem fix would allow me to have signal.
Edit : ..... I just tried to flash the H915 again... and I was dumb, instead of selecting all, I kept the modem and recovery......... now my phone no longer want to boot and I can't even use LGUP since it is not booted. Download mode doesn't work either.
I thinks I just killed it
Edit 2 : Oh my god, just got Download mode to work, the procedure was slightly different than usual.

AS993 keeps changing APN settings back to previous carrier on reboot

I got an unlocked GSM AS993 on Ebay. Sure, it's frustrating how locked down the bootloader and stuff is but my one true issue is that it's a "GSM unlocked" phone and mostly works correctly except that it has default, baked-in APN settings from C Spire that it keeps defaulting to on reboot, sometimes overwriting the Ting APN settings I need for my MMS stuff to work. It will also occasionally do this while the phone is *running*, swapping out my Ting APN's MMSC for the C Spire one. It does this even though I added a separate APN for Ting. It overwrites the one I added!
Is there a fix or workaround to stop it from overwriting my APN settings? Preferably without doing the painfully complicated flash-three-images-together method used for rooting
I have this same issue but it defaults back to Sprint settings. Anyone know how to fix it?

Hi, good news! I found a solution. Bad news: had to flash a completely different ROM compatible with my device and region (United States) which of course means wiping the device completely.
I used a patched version of LG UP, downloaded Canadian (H873) firmware, did a full partition DL to write all the partitions to the device and after a lot of time it booted and I had a working G6 with zero carrier bloat and it didn't mess with my APN settings after that. I did a full factory reset before & after installing the firmware but you'll lose all the data on your phone either way, so do be aware of that.
Factory reset is performed by booting up holding power button and vol-down, releasing ONLY the power button for a split second when the LG logo appears and then pressing it back down again until the reset menu appears.
Firmware version I got was H87320i_00_OPEN_CA_OP_0204 from lg-firmwares.com
I got the installer for LG UP and the patch files from Jthein's excellent UnBrick thread.
most excellent tip

Thanks for the tip, this seems to have worked for me. Being on T-Mobile I would like to have Wifi Calling and VoLTE working as well, which the H873 ROM is not showing in the menu options. I understand the US997 phones have these options enabled and work on T-Mobile, not sure if cross flashing AS993 -> H873 -> US997 will work or not. If anyone has tried this I'd be curious to hear of success or failure.
I don't remember for sure but I think I may have cross-flashed either an AS993 or LS993 to US997, a long time ago. Why not give it a try? Worse come the worse, it will give you an error in LG UP and stop the process or even if you manage to brick the phone, just follow the unbrick guide that Mike_IronFist linked. With the firehose out for the g6 long ago, you can't really brick it permanently (except don't mess with H873 as it can't be cross-flashed).
if rooted use gravity box or decompile framework apk gravity box has the option under framework device_respects_carrier_config=true change to false and change_apn to true

LG V20 firmware downgrading issue

A little while ago I got the brilliant idea to flash the unsupported korean F800K firmware to my American AT&T H910 model V20. In similar genius fashion, I skipped making a backup figuring, if it broke, it broke. I even failed to put TWRP on it. Well, it broke, in a way. The phone works fine, except cellular data connection and usb tethering of a wifi connection. Does this mean there are different USB drivers between these models? I was using the patched LG UP software with uppercut, and ended up getting an error afterward with the recognition of the device model.
Please let me know if anyone has any ideas to get me off the Korean software image of android 8.
