LG G6 ex-demo unit-legally acquired! H870V (dual sim) - LG G6 Questions and Answers

Okay, so probably looks fishy, so to get one thing out of the way, if anyone wants to blame around how the device must've been stolen, I can make a video proof showing a purchase on eBay Stores close all the time, so what? And there is nothing bad about trying to make use of something that has no use anymore, so if you are planning to give me a moral lecture how I'm doing something evil by saving a good piece of valuable hardware from going to trash, you are welcome to turn your head away.
Now that we've eliminated the spammers, let's try to do something constructive
So this is the current state of the unit:
SW ver. V10f-OPT1-HQ.
Baseband ver. MPSS.TH.2.0.1.c3.1-00014-M8996FAAAANAZM-1.86009.21
Build num. NRD90U
Kernel ver. 3.18.31
What I'm trying to achieve is to make this unit have GSM network in EU, hopefully without touching the hardware, so that's the first thing I have to test. I read somewhere that it might be possible to achieve that by writing QCN and EFS with Octoplus box.
If someone can do a backup of their EFS (with Chimera possibly), I'd like to "borrow" it for a ride, just to see if that is true.
The other problem is that I cannot get my BL unlocked because I don't have an IMEI, so I have to hope for someone to make a workaround for this.
Probably could be achieved by QFIL flash, but that's never easy.
Since I don't know much about LG's FW files and how they work, I have to ask if it's possible to compile a "passable" KDZ containing unlocked bootloader or custom recovery with secure check modified so that I can get this thing opened?
Another thing which I have to report is that I found a totally legit way (at least on my FW ver.) to write/repair IMEI without root, just through service menu!
I don't know if other devices have this and if this is maybe not a new thing at all, but I find it pretty amazing!
If there is interest, I will provide some preview in comments, as well as APK if possible!
Right now I managed to write some generic IMEI.
It has a generator inside, it practically changes not only IMEI, but as well as MAC and some other stuff according to values which you set (I remember there is a region setting, so I selected EU_OPEN).
To make sure, I'm not trying to fake an IMEI and cheat my way through gaining network access and who knows what, but before I purchase the new EFS legally, I'd like to see if this HW is capable of running it.
So, another thing is that the network still isn't comming. I think the band can be set only on 1900 or something like that, but I think there might still be network limitation due to SW, no matter I flashed it with LG_UP and modem file got flashed normally as any other file.
Cell network is grayed out in settings, when I put the SIM in, it seems to detect it at first, but later in most of the SIM related settings which I tried to mess with in service menu it says that SIM is not detected. Generally when I remove SIM/SD card tray it detects it and asks for a SIM.
If there is nobody willing to borrow an EFS, I hope there is someone who really knows meanings of all these stuff in this service menu, who can guide me through a little bit.
I think there's chance that some settings there disable networking, and if I could copy and paste them from another device, it might wake up. It doesn't have reception at all, not even 112 and 911 at the moment, it detects no networks when I jump to manual network selection option (because I cannot access through settings), and that discourages me a little.
If there is any genius out there, get summoned please!

I didn't find a way to flash any other firmware. I think it's impossible to get network. I disassembled my own and compared the motherboard with the one that I found on Google images. It seems that a modem chip is absolutely missing from the device. That explains no network, even after generating EFS (at least in my case).
I don't know what is your level of knowledge, but for example, I've been trying to root Korean LG V10, and haven't succeed, although I've seen some websites selling custom root .tot firmware files, but I don't know is it possible to make or find those files for newer devices.

lg g6 demo flashed
i try to flash demo retail version of g6 with lg up, i put firmware h87010d and after sucessfull instal it goes wrong and phone start to go restarting.because there is no possebility to turn it off i couldnt do anything so i put the phone on table and leave it.after the night battery was off at 0% and i put it on charger and try to start recovery mode.after phone goes on there was a warning that recovery mode is desibled by admin.after that i start to power on the phone and it starts normaly with new software without retail mode on it.

Hi! Is your sim card slot working? Maybe you can send some links for your solution? In my case is LG up saying that h870v is an unknown device. I think that i have the wrong LGUP_common.dll if I understood correctly. And couldn't find the right one.
And the System is using ca 20 Gb. Is it possible to unlock the bootloader without IMEI. Somehow to get it rooted?

[Q] i9505 cannot register on network

Ok so here's my problem.
I have an I9505 previously with a GE custom ROM and modem version XXUEML2, everything was working fine so far, the only "strange" thing was whenever I reboot the device the Cell Network will take about 3 minutes to reconnect, and I constantly lost the 4g connection which I attributed to problems within my carrier.
So a couple days ago I re-installed my custom ROM (was having problems with the Kernel) and after it boot back I wait to my Cell Network to connect, which never happen. So I went ahead, format everything, re-install the custom ROM and no luck.
I tried everything, updating the Baseband to XXUEML6. Install the Stock ROM (which was locked, but the store where I get it unlocked it by warranty), install another Stock ROM (right now I have the I9505XXUFNC4_I9505PHNFNC1_PHN ROM) and I still cannot get signal).
Did my modem just died, or the "warranty" guys unlock my device in a wrong method. I don't think is a problem with my IMEI 'cause I still have the same as the dive box says.
Hope someone can guide me before I take it back. Thanks.

Well, when I bought the device, it was intended to be unlocked, but for a strange reason my device (only mine 'cause we bought 2 the same day) came carrier locked (MEO from Portugal) So I sent it back to warranty. After a week I get my device back "unlocked" (Same ROM, IMEI) but I notice that it was rooted, which only makes me think that they take it to a third party which unlocked the cellphone with a method that required root. I didn't care, I had signal and 3G,

There use to be possible using this guide, with the old firmwares as far as i know is not possible anymore unless you still have that firmware
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2282683
The other way is by an unlocking code ( you can buy in many places) once is unlock , stays unlock..no matter what you flash
Try something go Settings/connections / More networks/Mobile networks/ network Operator/ choose your carrier and see if it let you register, try others and see what kind of message you get

Already tried to choose my carrier, but sometimes it doesn't even appear, and when it does, connecting to it just throws and error saying "Not Registered On Network".
What I fear is that somehow they unlocked it using the Ariza patch (or other unlock method) which should not be used.
Also after digging some info, that kind of error happens when the device have been IMEI locked, which could be also a possibility given that my SIM works on any other device, but not otherwise. I will have to give a call to support service to discard this theory.

Ok, I have more information, typing on the dial *#0011# to get the Service Mode Menu, it says at the bottom IMEI CERTI: NA. But if y dial *#06# I get my correct IMEI, is something wrong with the EFS folder?

Hi ,
Just cheked mine , it said PASS
For sure something happen when unblocking the phone

Note 3 No Network / Wrong Serial Number .

Problem:Rooted the phone and due to some issues but somehow it became unrooted so I tried to root again but this time it failed during odin downloading mode halfway. so I unplug and was not able to boot up the phone. So i download and install the stock firmware from sammobile and manage to get the phone to startup . But the next issue is that the imei is gone and serial number's wrong with no network .
Did a bit of researched and I managed to write my own imei in through a thread I've found here . But my serial number is still different from what I've checked from the back of my phone and the network is still not up . I've check my ESN n MEID number is some random numbers or just 000000000 , tried to search for how to recover but to no avail.
I've tried doing imei repairs using GSII_repair and tried to follow some threads on things like deleting efs folders etc BUT I am not able to find the nv_data file even after rooting so decided to drop the method .
Do let me know what you guys need in order to troubleshoot the problem .
Did the phone's imei and serial # match the label before you rooted the first time?

Did you buy the phone new or used?
The easiest way to fix that, is to flash stock rom, but not just any ... it has to be the exact same region as the phone originated. Otherwise you get screwed EMEI, etc. Some countries the phone is carrier locked, so you also need to take that in account when getting stock rom. If you can't find those out... then it can be a problem. Maybe bring it into a samsung repair center to be checked out.

I flashed the stock rom from sammobile using odin , managed to get the phone up but thats when the imei and sn gets screwed up I think . I'm from singapore and our phones here are all unlocked . Used to work for 1 of the telcos here so I'm 100% sure it's not sim locked . I checked with my friends at samsung and they told me their process is to switch the motherboard and it's not worth the price, so I would want to try all the methods first before converting it as a expensive media player lol.
So the phone is originally from Singapore? Or you just flashed stock rom from Singapore? If the phone is originally from Singapore and you flashed a stock rom from Singapore, it should work... unless you tried changing the EMEI yourself. I think it's all messed up now, so you probably only have to take it to a shop that can do that for you. Changing motherboard from Samsung (or any manufacturer) is always super expensive. Hopefully you can find someone else with a small shop that can do it -- otherwise, I guess better to get something else (because price won't be worth it, as you say).
Good luck. Hope you sort it out.
PS, I like visiting Singapore sometimes... miss Brazil Churrascaria ^^.

How to Full carrier unlock Verizon S8+ with Stock SM-g955u1 bloat free

DISCLAMER: I AM NOT A DEVOLPER AND MAY NOT BE ABLE TO HELP YOU ON YOU DEVICE. UNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPTS TO FLASH FIRMWARE ON THIS DEVICE CAN AND WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE. BACK UP EVERYTHING IN EVRY CONCIEVABLE WAY.
After days of trying to do this with all the outdated guides and miscommunications and edits in post i decided to try and make a streamlined guide to help others.
NOTE: If your are looking for anything else other than a stock bloat free unlocked firmware then look elsewhere.
Also if you are using rev 1 booloader then this will ireversablly upgrade you to rev 2 bootloader not a real problem just a note
Download 3B's patched Odin 3.13 https://drive.google.com/file/d/17wH1YHcGsOCxbDGYDoy9VlnqO_Xi6IOm/view?usp=drivesdk
Download samfirm.exe
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1XdboeTqk8pSZyJQVt-IHVHFfznJ9eOQk/view?usp=drivesdk
Thanks to @zxz0O0
If you can't find your own drivers don't do this
1. Extract B3 Odin
2. Extract and run samfirm.exe
3. Make sure auto is checked use SM-G955u1 as model number and XAA as country code then search. It should find you the absolute latest firmware
Hit download and choose file destination. This can take a while.
4. extract firmware.zip
5. Run 3B's Odin and add file to there respective locations. I.e. Ap file in Ap slot etc. Use the non home CDC
6. The only thing you need ticked in Odin are already set by default
7. Boot phone into download mode power+bixby+volume down while the device is off
8. Read the screen that pops up very carefully and decide to continue at you own risk by pressing volume up
9. Connect phone via USB 2.0 port do not use a USB 3.0 port it will not work
Make sure Odin recognizes device if it doesn't then u have a driver issue
10. Press start and wait patiently
11. Phone will reboot it self setup device and insert sim card. You will probably get a notification say phone not allowed a quick call to the service provider you trying to use is all that's in order here
12. Enjoy your carrier unlocked stock SM-G955u1 on your preferred network
I AM NOT RESPOSIBLE FOR ANYTHING YOU DO TO YOUR OWN DEVICE YOU WERE WARNED.
So this gets rid of all bloatware?
From my knowledge, Verizon does not, and has not ever carrier locked their phones. Seems like a lot of trouble just to debloat.. Am I missing something here?
Any idea why it stucks at "SetupConnection.."
This worked GREAT! My Verizon S8+was working fine on AT&T before I did this, but I was stuck on Android 7.0. So thank you so much for this. There's only one thing that bothers me is in my drop down menu there's a notification that says "Sprint OMADM Checking Device Status." Which really isn't a big deal, it's just annoying. Another thing I worry about is, i'm using it on a GSM network, is it actively searching for a CDMA network at the same time and draining my battery? Any input would be appreciated, and thank you again!

The method will be similar just need the proper firmwares for your device
This being quite an old post I was wondering ...
I am currently on G950USQS5CSB1 with CSC XAS/XAA/VZW.
Currently I have no carrier bloat (good), I am on Mint with no issues (good) and I get prompt OTA's I assume for carrier VZW but I lack wifi calling which I would like (bad).
I have downloaded G950U1UES5CSB2 for G950U1
Will this work using the 3B modded Odin as described without having to flash the combination files?
normal and Prince Comsy Odin both failed.
Thanks
edit: Took the dive .... worked great thanks, now on G950U1 and have wifi calling and VoLTE
This is great, minus one thing, it installed facebook on my phone, which I didn't have before and never wanted and it won't let me uninstall it..
I'm hoping you are still monitoring this old thread. I have a Verizon Galaxy S8 and followed your instructions exactly (except that I downloaded the files for SM-G950U1 (my current model is SM-G950U). When I start Odin, it gets stuck at "SetupConnection" and never goes any further. Thoughts?

This would be great if it worked. However I have my doubts. You would first need to have the phone be from Verizon or be on another carrier and *unlocked* first before changing any CSC using the US OPEN firmware which allows you to simply put a sim card in and switch carriers by swapping sims and letting Samsung reconfigure the phone. The BEST setup is a SPRINT phone.. unlocked.. then converting to U / U1 firmware. You then have every possibility when it comes to carriers sitting at your finger tips!
Good Luck

Your post dont even make sense. The Verizon s8 at the time came sim unlocked. All you had to do was swap the csc. But worked unlocked out of the box. Why would a sprint device be the best setup. All the us s8s are identical. Sounds like you come from LG which is true on devices and versatility. Not Samsung.

Baseband not found [XT1766 SPerry/Boost Mobile]

Somehow or another I have managed to screw up my modem on my SPerry XT1766 (Boost Mobile).
I only get Emergency Calls Only radio signal, Settings app and bootloader info shows Baseband Not Found or Unknown.
I tried using RSDLite to flash
XT1766_SPERRY_SPRINT_7.1.1_NCQS26.69-64-10_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC
which contains the fsg.mbn and NON-HLOS.bin files, but this doesn't seem to help. I've tried multiple firmwares with multiple different modems and nothing seems to be getting my modem up and going. Back when I originally updated I flashed the partition updater also. I have no idea what to do now. I'm downloading the 69-56 version to try that, but I doubt it'll be any different. If anyone has any idea on what to do that would be great. Thanks

No I am not on a boost network but this problem goes more into firmware than network compatibility because the bootloadet itself isnt even recognizing the baseband. For the record I am still using a CDMA network like boost (Verizon)
Also as an update, the 56 version didn't fix it either

The latest update did that too many people. It won't work with a different sim. The radio will be off.
I bet if you put in a boost SIM, it would pop right on.
They changed something in the -8 firmware.
One guy building ROMs (not here anymore) made some changes to his build that got certain networks to work on his ROM.
He never got the chance to share exactly what he was changing.
It seems that if you booted the phone ever with the original sim inserted, it tripped a qfuse (of sorts) and it seems they have added a way for that particular reading to turn off the radio completely if you're not using one of their SIMs.

You are 100% on point. Sprint (and its subsidiaries) had Motorola Mobility to include code in an OTA update which would disable functionality of any network other than the original UICC (SIM). In other words, when you got a new Sprint compatible xt1766 (Sprint, Boost or Virgin Mobile), opened the box and booted the device with the preinstalled SIM in it, the xt1766 became forever locked to that network -- the OTA update carved that in stone. The update made it impossible to downgrade the baseband radio, killed all GSM functionality, and broke the radio on custom ROMs (the latter being unintended most likely). The only people I have heard of getting around this are the ones that didn't take the -8 OTA update. Like you were saying, I'd like to know what Jason M. done in his custom ROM to fix radio function, whereas at least the radio would work with the original SIM on a custom ROM. He said something about "adding missing symlinks" to the build.
I did this too somehow. I think this might bring your baseband back (it did for me), but... well, I'll get to the "but..." Anyway, Boot to TWRP, mount the Persist partition, then go to terminal or pull up an ADB shell and do:
chmod 0700 /persist/rfs/msm/mpss/datablock/id_00

Reboot with a SIM card inserted and voila, you maybe might have a baseband again. Hooray! Except in my particular case, I regained a baseband and then somehow lost an IMEI. Well, not really "lost," it's still there when I pull up the barcodes page... but on bootup it thinks it's 000000000000001. I still haven't ever fixed it, though I did manage to turn it to a single 0 somewhere along the line. Fkit.
But I don't know of anyone else who's lost their IMEI this way, and it's been too long ago and I've tried way too many failed fixes to remember what else could have triggered the problem to start with, so who knows. If you decide to try it, definitely make a backup of the Persist partition before you do anything...and make sure your backup turns out to be good first, not corrupt like mine turned out to be....sigh.

Try my baseband updater from this thread. https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo.../rom-stock-android-7-1-1-rom-moto-e4-t3885821
It will attempt to update your baseband to the latest version (M8920_15000.280.06.58.06R) from firmware build NCQS26.68-64-11. If this doesn't work for you let me know, I may have a solution.

How to remove write protection Galaxy S4 SGH-i337 (hardware), containing i9500 firmware?

I purchased an SGH-i337 motherboard from Ali Express. However it is booting into an [email protected] stock i9500 ROM with Android 4.2.2 on it. I tried to flash it using Odin 3.09 with the corresponding SGH i337M stock ROM of the 5.0.1 Android but getting <ID:0/013> FAIL! (Auth) message. Also in download mode on the top left on the screen it shows one grayed out line saying "write protection enabled". So, I assume its the write protection giving me this problem. Perhaps someone has an idea how to enable writing to the device?
Thanks in advance
Lutz
AT&T never sold the I9500. If the motherboard is an AT&T model - a quick trip into download mode will confirm that - then your best option is to get your money back. AT&T locks the bootloader, meaning you cannot change the ROM.

Thank you. Well I got this main board for cheap and for the purpose of playing around, experimenting with rooting etc. What struck me was that the board is an i337 (which also is confirmed when going in download mode) but contains a well running i9500 firmware. I wonder if someone ever here has come across such oddity. Perhaps it is a chinese trick to re-sell old main boards, who knows... So, what you are saying is that it is bricked already and there is no way to ever download a different OS? Also of the bat, my Canadian SIM card will not work - which points clearly to a locked ATT firmware. I heard about a possible way with enabling debug mode to turn off the write lock, not sure though if that is applicable here...
Frequently. Resellers would buy the boards from phones with bad IMEIs in the US and, using hardware that worked with contact points on the board, rewrite the firmware without touching the bootloader and change the IMEI as well.
We usually tell people who get such a motherboard to get their money back. Now...if you want a North American motherboard that can be modded, you want a SGH-I337M or a SGH-M919 board as both of them have LTE that works in the US and have unlocked bootloaders.
Thank you again. I think I have learned something... So, the resellers just rig the board by somehow enabling to write firmware to the NAND flash bypassing the boot loader? I thought the IMEI is absolutely untouchable, but as you say apparently not so if you know the exact location in memory and know how to override perhaps? Darn, I thought I could practice with this board a bit until using my "good phone" for going to LineageOS. Well I will leave a rant on this seller at least.
Essentially yes. It used to be that changing the IMEI wasn't necessary, but if I recall correctly IMEI blacklists are now global in scope, so a phone IMEI that is blocked in one country would be blocked in others.
On Android 4.2.2 the IMEI was stored in a directory in the device internal storage and could be easily lost. Around Android 4.3 or 4.4.4 that file was moved into a portion of the device storage that normally is not user-accessible.

I have been trying to root this thing using jortex method with the exploits. This failed as literally every memory address this program tried to access was readonly. I am just running this board on a display and the USB connection, which should not be the problem.
Also curiously, on this board I can't get any SIM card to give me access to a network operator. Searching for operators fails with a brief error message. Otherwise it seems okay reading my phone number and showing it. There is no apparent network lock present. So, this piece of hardware really puzzeles me. It seems bricked if I can't even use my SIM card, let alone the write protection to everything. I already complained, but what can you do with these AliExpress Chinese dealers. He tried to explain to me how I can lock a SD card - totally off, - or avoiding the topic.
Unless things have changed, you have to use Safestrap recovery on an AT&T board to be able to do anything with it, including root it. With Safestrap you can install a second copy of the firmware on the internal storage and root it. You'll need to search the AT&T S4 forum for more information.
