Hey all...cleaning out my basement, and though I would repurpose my old nexus player to use in another bedroom, with plans on installing Lineage OS.
Plug it in, and no HDMI signal. Tried to get into recovery mode, by holding button on bottom, and plugging in power, led is stays solid white, and doesn't start flashing at all.
I've read a bunch of threads, and they all seem to point to needing bootloader mode. I have adb installed, but connecting via micro usb to my PC doesn't even get recognized.
Is there any way to get Lineage installed without getting into recvery or bootloader mode? It's running stock, and I don't think I enable USB debugging.
Any help appreciated, before I toss it out into the recycle bin.
Thanks...Eriic
Never mind, all...not worth the hassle. It will truly now be a brick in the garbage.

I never thought I'd have to go as far as create a thread pleading for help, but after a lot of Google searching I still cannot find someone with the same problem.
I will explain:
I am trying to use fastboot, which I (don't think) I've any problems with in the past.
I can issue commands in normal use via adb from my PC fine.
I can adb reboot bootloader ok, and can get into the bootloader any other way just fine.
I can use the volume keys to navigate the options in the bootloader just fine.
The problem comes with I connect the USB to my PC whilst in fastboot.
Windows fails to recognise the device, and says it may have malfunctioned.
It won't allow me to reinstall the drivers successfully it seems, and seems to have a problem with the USB Host Controller too.
Fastboot immediately freezes, and I'm unable to even navigate using the volume keys, let alone issue commands from my PC.
My question then is twofold:
1. Is there likely to be a problem with the USB port on my device, or some sort of bootloader corruption?
2. Is it possible to return to stock Android without using fastboot?
Finally, I would like to stress that I've seen plenty of similar looking threads, but it seemed that the posters of those threads merely had problems getting in to the bootloader or recovery.
I haven't got that problem, the problem only arises when a USB is connected to the PC, the tablet becomes unresponsive only in bootloader mode.
If anyone has any advice to offer at all, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Additionally, if the problem is solved, I will post a detailed set of instructions in case anybody else should encounter a similar problem in the future.

Update for anyone who happens to read this in the future:
[This guide](http://forums.androidcentral.com/ne...3923-guide-nexus-4-factory-image-restore.html) has a useful FAQ at the bottom which helped a little.
I think I managed to determine the problem was likely a duff usb connection, either on my Nexus or on my computer.
I was able to just about hobble through by keeping the cable in the same place.
In case it wasn't just this, this is what I did:
1. Flashed TWRP recovery from their app.
Went into bootloader and failed to do anything
2. Flashed CWM recovery.
Managed to be recognised in fastboot.
I still had problems with my Nexus 'malfunctioning' -- possible the USB.
I updated the drivers using the ones from [this thread](http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979).
3. Flashed a new bootloader image immediately (there were rumours that a dodgy version had been released accidentally). [This](http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23060877489996594) is the one I used.
Then I managed to get the stock ROM flashed, and the bootloader locked up again.
Fastboot freezes whenever USB plugged in
I'm having a problem with this step...
1. When booting to fastboot with any sort of USB plugged in, your buttons on the side may not respond. In this case, pull the cable and hold down power + Vol Down until it reboots. The buttons should now respond and you can plug USB back in if you wish.
the problem is that whenever the USB cable is plugged in, the buttons don't navigate through the options.
however, whenever the usb is NOT plugged in (and rebooted bootloader) the button work just fine.
I don't have a recovery currently installed.
The issue is not with drivers on the computer,
happens while usb plugged in both windows and linux or simply just plugged into a wall outlet to charge and with different USB cables.
I need to load fastboot but i'm having this issue. Is the device bricked without hope?
any help would be appreciated.

I still need help with recovering data off my phone but that's not what this thread is about.
This thread is about the immediate problem I'm facing which is, well exactly what you read in the thread title.
I've tried cleaning the contacts with compressed air, a brand new paint brush to pick out any debris, plugging into different ports, different cables, no usb hubs, restarting phone, restarting computer.
I need to mention that this phone will not boot normally, or into recovery, I can't even get the phone to go into download mode by holding down the buttons. Tried it innumerable times. It will only go into download mode if I turn it on, leave it plugged into the computer or charger for a couple minutes, and SOMETIMES the screen will blink and then proceed to enter download/Odin mode and not sure if it matters but qualcom secure boot is enabled.
I have never tried any rooting, custom recovery, this thing is stock. The thread title said it all, please help.
P.S. I'm willing to build/try a Linux computer if you think it's going to see my device better than Windows, but I am not experienced with Linux, and I think odin is windows only, but heimdall could work?
So I was running OmniRom on OP 5 and everything was running really smoothly. Yesterday evening, while browsing the web, it hung up on me so I decided to reboot.
It got stuck on the boot screen and never progressed.
So I decided I'd try to sideload the latest weekly version but here's the big issue.
I cannot get my OP5 to show up on either my Mac or my wife's Windows machine using adb which is really bad.
Does anybody have any possible tips? I really don't know where to go from here because sideloading and using fastboot is my typical failback when something goes awry.
Are you in TWRP?
If so, did you enable adb sideload?
What about 9008 mode?

If your PC can recognize your OP5 in this mode, it will be okay.
Thanks for the help!
I figured out the issue. My usb port on my OP5 is failing so in order to get it to connect I have to hold it tightly the entire time or it will disconnect, fun stuff.
On a side note, (and I posted this is the OmniRom thread), but I'm getting "Updater process ended with Error: 7" when trying to sideload from here
https://dl.omnirom.org/oneplus5/
Do you think it's because I don't have the . md5sum file in place?

You should try to clean up your usb port. Take something (i used opened paper clip) and CAREFULLY dig everything unwanted out of the usb port. Try NOT to short out the pins of the usb port and it's recommended to shut down your phone.
I've cleaned once my usb port on op5 and overall there came out alot fuzz. Also it's recommended to take some bright light and look when you see the bottom of port.
Hello! Long story short I've tried to flash TWRP from Linux with a Windows VM using ODIN and ended up with a "hard-soft" bricked phone. Hard-soft because on the phone is just a brick with a fancy screen that displays only the logo. No recovery, no download mode, no $lsusb recognition by the PC. I'm hoping to be able to boot in download mode using a diy USB JIG that I am willing to create. Only small problem: I can't find any schematic or any guidance for the type-C connector. Does anybody know if the JIG method is still present, if so, where should I connect the resistor to? Also, if you have any suggestions on how I can bring my phone back, I would appreciate the help. Symptoms are as followed: The phone turns on, displays the Samsung logo and from there is an infinite bootloop. The key combos for recovery and download mode are not working. Can't even force reboot the phone. At this point I have opened up the device and removed the battery connector, reconnected the battery after ~12h and still the same problem. Also, there is no charging interface when I plug the phone into the charger. Now it's just a fancy brick. PS: It's the exynos version. Thank you!
EDIT: The volume rocker wasn't working. After securing the motherboard better the I was able to recover from download mode.
DEVICE: OnePlus 6T T-Mobile flashed to International 10.3.8 OOS bluspark kernel, Magisk, TWRP, unlocked boot loader.
CURRENT SITUATION: Currently, lost magisk, twrp, and am factory reset/wiped to stock OOS 10.3.8 have no USB function through OTG, EDL, Fastboot, or ADB. I HAD all of that properly setup and working just days ago. USB only works for charging now. Phone “works” otherwise. Just can’t use USB for DATA, or push recovery, root it now. Which my main reason I bought this phone used was for having root.
HOW: I had everything running and setup how I wanted. But in TWRP recently (not from beginning of owning the device) when I flashed stuff or switch slot A/B in TWRP I would get a warning saying “unable to mount storage” even though the flash file would complete successfully and slot would change. Then when plugging in my USB C OTG drive the phone no longer picked it up. THEN I noticed I couldn’t ADB into the phone. I plugged it into the same cable and USB 2.0 port that had been used fine for a couple weeks. So even though I had everything working fine otherwise I decided to “fix” this problem and try some things which stupidly got me to now a “kinda working” never again to be rooted device. Useless to me. I thought I would reach out here for last ditch effort for any options I missed before trying to sell on eBay for whatever I can for the state it’s in. Can’t post on OnePlus forums for two weeks and OnePlus support sent me template support reply that was no help. Repair would cost more than what I paid for the phone anyway.
I HAVE TRIED: Different cables, different PCs and ports. Full reset from stock recovery option, installing 10.3.8 zip in Local Upgrade to see if it would help anything. I have USB debugging on. No matter what when I plug it into PC I get nothing in Device Manager pop up, no indication from my computer anything has been plugged in. Only thing that happens is the phone starts charging. Doesn’t matter if in OOS, or boot loader. Trying to boot to EDL does nothing. My previously installed Qualcomm driver didn’t indicate anything was plugged in neither does MSM tool. Uninstalled reinstalled drivers. Nada. Think it’s a hardware problem because the phone should pick up in edl or fast boot at least, or the OTG stick. But nothing. Sucks. Hindsight if I had known this was going to be the result I would have never messed with it and left as it was rooted and recovery. Now it’s just a no fun device I’m going to have to part with. Also of note if I have the cable plugged in and try to reboot the phone doesn’t power back on. I have to unplug it then hold volume + PWR to get it to turn back on.
Thanks for reading maybe someone has options but I’m thinking I’m SOL without USB function I can’t get recovery or root back ever.
