Hi !
Like for a laptop, it depends on your usage : gaming or not ? large screen or not ? budget ? I think in 2020, Note 8T or some note 9 could be more appropriate but once again, first see about your usage and needs

1. Gaming : NIL ,no games at allllll
2. Screen size : anything not matters for me
3. Budget : 5K to 14k
RN8T is not available in India and Note 9 has a mediatek SoC

If you can use the Pro Mode of the Note 7 camera you will take Amazing pics, you will have a large modding community support for years, Android R will not arrive officially and the Note 7 After the MIUI 12 will be EOL (It will receive some updates but slower than other phones), the Note 7 is a good phone, but it's just old, think about it:good:

No, i use the stock MIUI 11 based on Android 10, i've tried Weeb Project (Based on Android R) and it's pretty good, i had problems only with Mobile Data but i think it'll be fixed soon, i haven't used custom ROMs a lot, i like the MIUI (The Android 10 Update is very good, the stock camera with Pro settings for me is better than any Gcam).

(even it's the question is not for me, i'd like to present my point of view, no offense i hope)
I've tried some custom roms : pixel experience (normal and plus) : very good rom, totally stable, good battery. I had problems months ago with rom without included gapps. I'm now back on MIUI but Revolution OS in order to have a debloated one with still the MIUI features.
Dirty Unicorns should be pretty good too i guess, but nothing better than trying by yourself !

[Discussion] Why to buy a Xiaomi device and flashing it with other roms?

Hi, bought my RN4 Qualcomm because since a lot of time I was tempted by MIUI tried on some of my previous devices and even if earlier versions hasn't amazed me, since MIUI 6 or 7 temptation growth, so now i just would like to know why other people flashes Lineage, Resurrection Remix and other roms, isn't it better to buy a One Plus or other devices for those?
Absolutely no polemics, just to discuss this, every one must to do just what like to.

I guess people didn't like miui that much.even I'm not liking this much.
And about oneplus i was planning to buy a 3t or rn4.as i didn't had any phone with me i wanted to buy one of these fast.
I choose this one because this is having dev as oneplus has and i thought it will be foolish to invest in 3t while oneplus 5 will be launched in couple of months

i needed a cheap phone with decent specs. But also like Stock ROM UI.. One Plus 3T is twice the cost of Redmi Note 4
Budget friendly
Specs rocks, but Miui isn't a way to go for me, hence I flash custom roms.
Multitasking, push notification, notification handling (cant drag/expand notifications using one finger), google features lacking (like smart lock), overheating problems
Those were the problems for me. Appart from those things i love MIUI. I love the way it looks. Some of those problems I mentioned i think are being fixed by cant really be sure.
Imagine having those problems on day one. Id want to switch roms too lol
---------- Post added at 12:19 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:16 AM ----------
Also one thing I do prefer on AOSP/custom roms is that we can interact with everything (we can drag, touch, interact). With MIUI its not the case because they have a theme engine that restricts all of that. You'll notice when you use MIUI.

Overheating isn't a problem on the Snapdragon one, other issues aren't hurting me.
So this and maybe other Xiaomi devices, are the best specs-for-that-price options available?

Yeah. Keep in mind that the camera is lackluster in lowlight (even with the flagship xiaomis lol).
First thing i suggest doing is go with a global version stock rom. Chances are, if you import, youll have a china stock ROM that is FILLED with ads and different way/interface of handling app permissions.
Also unlocking bootloader is a 1 week process.
Coz Xiaomi provides good hardware (esp snapdragon SOCs) at low prices but their softwares (miui) sucks - can't even implement proper notification handling ( 2 finger swipe to expand notifications ? Lamo ) . So there's your answer

I use miui and like it (rooted). No need for custom rom
Cheap + good specs, stock miui ( other devices port miui but very difficult, even brick phones by ported miui ROM), custom ROMs, developers support.

Flashing Custom ROMs solves this prob
the xiaomi devices of the note 3 and note 4 series offer decent hardware specs. in miui I hate the look of the status bar, google smartlock is missing, i dont know which data gets send to china servers, no sound profiles, notification handling (2 finger swipe omg), google voice commands often dont work from lockscreen which do work on custom roms... so far every custom of the note 3 and note 4 has its bugs. camera interfaces are ugly etc.... but for me custom rom has more to offer then miui
only thing i miss from miui are some apps, like the camera, scanner app and call recording feature. maybe someday they get ported

Not necessarily. That was true for my 1St RN4. Took a while to unlock. Finally I managed unlock with FlyVPN method.
Sadly I killed that device.
The New one came with global stable 8.2.2.0. Unlock was a process of 5 minutes. ?
But I already had permission to unlock then.
For notifications on lock screen I use Floatify.

As I have two note 4 where I see motion blur when scrolling the screen, in this case I will sell both and stay on my note 3 pro international. I tried AOSP extended and RR on the note 4, both offer the same huge amount of customisation ( in comparison to lineageos)
Battery drain on redmi note 4 mtk
I'm using global ROM 8.0.4.0 and my batt drain 10% only in 10 minute

samsung rom for redmi note 7?

It might sound stupid but i was a samsung s6 user. I use to run samsung own experience (oreo based) rom and i recently switched to redmi note 7. I miss my old phone interface/ ui. So i am just wondering if it is possible to port any samsung rom (one ui preferebly) for redmi note 7???
Well, it most likely is possible, but no one wants to spend A LOT of time to port such ROM just for a few people to use. The best way to go about this is to find a Samsung-like theme in the MIUI themes store
I don' t think anyone will try to port a samsung rom to Redmi note 7.I had a J5 2016 before this phone and was a great phone but redmi is better and more uptodate with better chipset and miui ui is just as good as samsungs ui or better in my opinion. Is best to leave the samsung behind you as this rom has great developers here with some great aosp roms. And of course miui are great with rom updates probably faster than just about any other phone maker.

rom suggestion

hello dudes, i've been that kind of user that tries many mods and reads up about every possibility, but now sadly i have no more time for it :c (uni+work+gf+everything else)
i'm running an s7edge exy with stock rom and i'm considering switching to a custom one. actually battery life on stock is still amazing but i miss root features (and i totally hate that hecking youtube premium ad that keeps showing up) and that extra useful rotate suggestion button that came in pie.
what i'm more interested in are speed, battery and ad hoc features (always on, edge lighting, edge tabs): some friend of mine suggested me that pie performs alot better than oreo and now i'm asking: is waiting for 10 roms worth it or not (will it perform even better?) ?
would you suggest a stock rom or a samsung oneui based? is there any actual list to look up for?
ty alot ♥

Black diamond N8 v2 with Thunderstorms kernel 2.3 pie will be good for you. Good performance and battery.
If you want Android 10, Los 17 beta is out and in the coming weeks a stable version should be out.

Would you suggest to wait for LOS or not? I mean, it's just about stability or there is some difference in terms of performance (between Los and black diamond)?
(and why blackdiamond n8 instead of nfe? I can't find the difference but the nfe looks more updated, isn't it?)
I would rather go with a pure 8.0 Oreo ROM that looks like it used to look on Nexus 5X. Just pure Android. Does anyone know where can I find one?

The experience on N8 id way better and the experience is more fluid. Samsung basically made the Note FE pie firmware just because they had to because of the note 7 fiasco so the libs are not well optimized. N8 is a lot better imo.
As for LOS. I will recommend waiting for the stable release of LOS17. The beta version have bugs. I also don't recommend LOS16 because i haven't had a good experience on jt.
My go to configuration is N8 with Thunderstorm kernel.

Hii! Sadly I've just discovered that LOS doesn't feature Always on nor edge lighting, or at least that is what they told me on the telegram group.
Should I pick the note based Rom that you suggested in the beginning? What about OneUI2 or Android 10?

Yes Los is based on Aosp and has no samsung crap.
Just clean android focused on performance and battery.
As fas as Oneui is Blanckdiamond is good.
Once OneUi2 is out for s10 series , developers will try to port it but porting android 10 to a legacy device is hard and i doubt s7 will get a fully stable build of OneUi2.

I don't see why it wouldn't. Xiaomi's snapdragon models seem to always have development since it's easy to unlock the bootloader. For development to thrive though, we have to wait till the kernel sources are released, which is about 2 months after release on average.

Just got the phone, definitely feels slower than it needs to be based on the specs. I am really hoping we see a custom recovery and ROMs soon to see this phone fly. I was checking and the X3 NFC got those 2 relatively quickly post release.

I disagree with your assertion. Even Redmi note 5 pro from three years ago, performs very well without lag on AOSP ROMs. And we all know that SD 662 on the POCO M3 is faster and better than SD 636 on RN5 Pro. So i believe that POCO M3 will perform greatly on AOSP based ROMs.

The miui roms of that time were loaded with bloadware and not very optimized, so any "clean" rom made an appreciable difference in performance.
Today it is not like that, the current miui roms are quite clean and highly optimized (and can be easily cleaned of the bloadware they carry).
There is not much difference apart from the security issues with the other cleaner android roms.
