rom suggestion - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

hello dudes, i've been that kind of user that tries many mods and reads up about every possibility, but now sadly i have no more time for it :c (uni+work+gf+everything else)
i'm running an s7edge exy with stock rom and i'm considering switching to a custom one. actually battery life on stock is still amazing but i miss root features (and i totally hate that hecking youtube premium ad that keeps showing up) and that extra useful rotate suggestion button that came in pie.
what i'm more interested in are speed, battery and ad hoc features (always on, edge lighting, edge tabs): some friend of mine suggested me that pie performs alot better than oreo and now i'm asking: is waiting for 10 roms worth it or not (will it perform even better?) ?
would you suggest a stock rom or a samsung oneui based? is there any actual list to look up for?
ty alot ♥

Black diamond N8 v2 with Thunderstorms kernel 2.3 pie will be good for you. Good performance and battery.
If you want Android 10, Los 17 beta is out and in the coming weeks a stable version should be out.

Error.

For daily usage it performs better with good battery life. If you play games on your phone that stay on stock.

I'm also interested to know your advises. I'm in the same situation

Would you suggest to wait for LOS or not? I mean, it's just about stability or there is some difference in terms of performance (between Los and black diamond)?

(and why blackdiamond n8 instead of nfe? I can't find the difference but the nfe looks more updated, isn't it?)

I would rather go with a pure 8.0 Oreo ROM that looks like it used to look on Nexus 5X. Just pure Android. Does anyone know where can I find one?

The experience on N8 id way better and the experience is more fluid. Samsung basically made the Note FE pie firmware just because they had to because of the note 7 fiasco so the libs are not well optimized. N8 is a lot better imo.
As for LOS. I will recommend waiting for the stable release of LOS17. The beta version have bugs. I also don't recommend LOS16 because i haven't had a good experience on jt.
My go to configuration is N8 with Thunderstorm kernel.

Hii! Sadly I've just discovered that LOS doesn't feature Always on nor edge lighting, or at least that is what they told me on the telegram group.
Should I pick the note based Rom that you suggested in the beginning? What about OneUI2 or Android 10?

Yes Los is based on Aosp and has no samsung crap.
Just clean android focused on performance and battery.
As fas as Oneui is Blanckdiamond is good.
Once OneUi2 is out for s10 series , developers will try to port it but porting android 10 to a legacy device is hard and i doubt s7 will get a fully stable build of OneUi2.

Android 6.0 MM Stock - User Experience

Hi all, anyone here flash official MM to their device yet? I'm wondering about user experience. I read a thread on reddit and the top comment has me worried.
I'll copy and paste the comment here:
I'm on the beta and apart from the better app switch window, you're literally missing out on nothing. MM + EMUI 4 is glitchy and slow a lot of the time. It's a pity, really.

Hello, I am a beta tester for Honor 5x Android 6.0+EMUI 4.0 for L22 (India) variant. It has been around 2 months I am using the beta versions (with different updates with bug fixes), and current versions seems stable. Although there has been a problem of excessive RAM consumption, the phone is pretty stable. We have raised bug for this and Honor dev team is working on the fix. Don't worry, we have rejected 3 requests from Honor in their beta survey to make sure buggy software is not released to the public.
The user experience is better than Android 5.1 + EMUI 3. The UI is improved and smoother than previous version. We have raised requests for new features like OTG support and more camera functions, and hoping that we will get all of those sooner. Keep in mind that by comparing EMUI 4.0 to stock Android will disappoint you as no customized UI matches stock one in the performance aspect.
I am happy with the current release as it is much more stable that earlier ones and still waiting for another update with rest of the bug fixes and requirements incorporated.
If you like stock, you may move to CM13 and other ROMs. Personally I did not try CM yet as there is not fingerprint support. Yes in just 4 months, I am damn addicted to fingerprint and I don't want to try a ROM without FP support. CM developers are damn good and they are working on the FP issue and we will have the resolution sooner.
Finally, whether to go with beta release, or wait for it to release to public or going for CM or CM based ROMs remains your choice. I enrolled to beta testing so that my fellow friends using Honor 5X will have a bug free stable stock software. I might move to CM when the beta testing is over

Same as what you'd say, Release is consuming a lot of RAM, Battery as well Data Comsumption Monitor is having two stages which is makin me taking two step enrollment to save data.
There i found a Bug/Error but unable to report with the team Dev where on Professional camera - No sooner when i ue Flash Light/Torch and immediately open Pro Camera to capture moments it says Close Torch App - Unable to Open Camera App.
currently running marshmallow (RC VERSION) on L22.
there are a lot of changes
1.the notification icons are now colored
2.recent apps are better now
3.audio output via 3.5mm jack has improved.
3.view modes is introduced(similar to dpi changing)
4.incoming call ui is full screen.
5.revamped settings, phone, messaging(white color with dark notification icons)
and all other marshmallow goodies like permission manger, detailed app info etc
on the bad side...
ui buggy and consumes hell lot of ram.
and lags while mutitasking.
hope all this gets improved in the stable release

Looks like EMUI, along with the bug causing excessive RAM consumption.
But with latest build, apps are loading quite faster than earlier, I am not sure which one did you try.

OPO vs D855

Hi all,
New here; long time silent follower/downloader but never posted.
I had a couple of handsets spare in the house and lately have been a bit sick of iOS so decided to dust off the old OPO and G3, and to flash a custom Nougat ROM. I thought I'd end up using the OPO as it's higher spec than the G3.
I've installed AOSP-CAF 7.1 on both phones, with stock Open-GApps.
The interesting thing is that despite the OPO having 50% more RAM and the exact same CPU, the D855 feels much snappier and gives a better user experience. Any ideas on why? Is it the kernel? Bummer at the minute as I'll be forced to use the G3, even though it only has 16GB and 2GB, also with the lower res front camera. With the display being higher res as well, I'd have expected the OPO to trounce the G3! Any ideas?
Thanks!
Change ROM ?
Or change the kernel :highfive:
Seriously, I think that is due to the kernel settings. Sometimes (i remember on Omnirom),some roms need other kernel settings to feel better and smoother

That's what I thought too, but when I got the ROM running on the G3 it was definitely smoother. Any suggestions for ROMs/Kernels?
Definitely want Nougat and definitely minimalist/stock Gapps. Don't like the funky custom looks on a lot of builds.

No,Bluetooth works perfectly fine. Moreover if you encounter any other issues, the developer of this rom is kind enough to fix it for you.
Had a look through the thread for it, looks promising. All this though, and I dropped the OPO last night. The repair shop has it now, and they've never heard of one. Won't read the sim. Eeek.

[Discussion] Favourite rom and why?

Thought I'd start this discussion just for a place to talk about what rom we're all running at present, for what reasons etc. to perhaps offer and overview of what choices are available for our great device.
I'm currently on Oreo Beta 1 - runs very quickly with such impressive performance, loving the stock camera (though keen to see what future software updates can offer...), with my screen brightness down to 5-10% indoors and on WiFi I'm getting anywhere between 10-12 hours screen on time.
Will be curious to run Lineage when it comes official/stable and will love it when Google camera port is running nicely on our phones as definite enhancements can be had!

Nice! I'm curious of it, how do you find it compared to stock? In terms of speed (can't imagine this device being any faster lol), battery life and of course the seemingly dreaded question... Camera quality?
Right now on official OmniROM 8.1. It's fast, extremely stable, has excellent 10 hour screen on time for battery life over 1.5 days(my usage), and has excellent OMS theming support with nice minor OS tweaks and addons like OmniSwitch Recents replacement.
I was running official Oreo OOS but didn't care for the lack of proper theming, but the camera is a tad better and battery life was about the same. Maybe a little less than Omni.

thats great. i can make use of my otg drive then..
i just need to start reading now coz im running my 5t stock unrooted.
Only ever used three ROMs on this device. First was the stock ROM the device came with (OOS 4.7.3), didn't get to experience it much because i flashed FreedomOS 4.7.4. I loved that ROM on my 3T. Had a lot of features. But i kinda lost interest because most of what i found useful in the 3T weren't yet implemented on the 5T ROM. And the dev took his sweet time releasing updates (not that taking time is wrong, it's just that i need my updates as quickly as possible). So i flashed OOS Oreo Beta 1. I'm loving it so far. I'll probably try out LOS when they release a stable 8.1 build.

I don't see why it wouldn't. Xiaomi's snapdragon models seem to always have development since it's easy to unlock the bootloader. For development to thrive though, we have to wait till the kernel sources are released, which is about 2 months after release on average.

I disagree with your assertion. Even Redmi note 5 pro from three years ago, performs very well without lag on AOSP ROMs. And we all know that SD 662 on the POCO M3 is faster and better than SD 636 on RN5 Pro. So i believe that POCO M3 will perform greatly on AOSP based ROMs.

The miui roms of that time were loaded with bloadware and not very optimized, so any "clean" rom made an appreciable difference in performance.
Today it is not like that, the current miui roms are quite clean and highly optimized (and can be easily cleaned of the bloadware they carry).
There is not much difference apart from the security issues with the other cleaner android roms.

I'm using EvoX since April 10. It very stable for me. You can try different roms for a few days to see which one work for better. Not much different in Performance and stability between all of those ROMs.

Personally i don't play mobile game that much this day. Don't take my word this personal preference.
Games perform really good. In my experience it even better than on OOS. On OOS I only get 50fps.
Here PUBG clip along with fps counter ( very short )
