2014 accord android head unit top screen question - Android Head-Units

Hello all, I'm very new to android auto and I'm still trying to figure out how this radio works. Some back story: 2014 accord comes with an "i-mid" top screen display for fuel consumption and trip info. This radio I purchased allows my to have an android head unit while retaining all factory functions including the top screen. Everything works great, but the top screen only appears in what I'm guessing is Chinese. If you go to "car settings" my fuel and trip info correctly appear in English, but that info gets lost in translation on its way to the top screen. I have searched up and down every setting and found nothing that affected to top display. I can provide more info if I am told what to look for, as I am still new to android auto.
Im not allowed to post a link, but if if you search "2014 accord android radio" on eBay, it will be one of the generic xy auto head units that is built into the a.c. vents.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!

Hey! I have the same car (mines the 2.4L manual transmission) and I just did the upgrade too... not really a fan of the iMid 'TFT Driver' that is supplied but it is what it is I guess... anyways to answer your question you definitely need to contact the reseller. The Sport version which I'm assuming is what you have, has OSD electronics in the iMid contrary to what a lot of people think... it is literally just a screen. As a result, these guys have created a device which can replicate the iMid and its controlled via the CanBus... but the device they chose to replicate the iMid is a really weak chip which can only support a few screens... it definitely doesn't have the program space for multiple languages (its a Intersil TW8825 mated to a Sony GVIF encoder)... and to the best of my knowledge it can't be flashed outside of the factory (or reprogrammed). Therefore, I think they sent you the wrong unit. They will have to ship you one that is in English.
Anyways, this is all assuming your car isn't the touring model or a model with factory navigation and subwoofer. If so it might be a different story.

Thank you for the reply! I do have an automatic sport model. It looks like I'm out of luck because the reseller told me that there is nothing they can do. However, I found a company in china (Feeldo) that makes these canbus harnesses. I was thinking that they could sell me ine programed in English, but they haven't replied.
Thank you very much for the insight!!! I guess the top screen shall remain my back up camera screen.

Hey no problem! I have a Dasaita unit personally, they sell the harness with the TFT driver (they call it another CanBus). I’m the same, can’t post links but I can vouch for that unit. Wiring it might be a trick though.
I’m actually looking at hacking the iMid screen so it can take a normal VGA input, I ordered a wrecker component the other day. I wrote a dashboard software for the iMid using a Raspberry Pi and I’m hoping that will be running soon!
Anyways I’m glad I’m not the only one with frustrations with their Honda iMid haha!

Thats awesome! I look forward to seeing what your project looks like when its complete. My idea was to use the reverese teigger wire in the canbus going to the imid and feed it ignition to always have it on amd somehow use the video out as screen mirror is something similar, but then I'm left with the dynamic reverse lines always being on. Your idea of converting to vga sounds very interesting! Keep me posted for sure!!!

I have the Dasaita px6. I'm looking for a tft driver I can connect a raspberry pi using HDMI to the imid. I currently have the canbus/driver box showing incorrect info also. Just looking for a passthru and maybe a switch for back up camera any help is appreciated

Auto Pumpkin 11-C0363-US-A

Brief background: I am very car electronically savvy; from installing car stereos and remote car starters to building custom car wiring harnesses & programming various control modules + electronics repair/building.
A few months ago I purchased a generic touch screen headunit from Amazon.ca. While it did most of what I wanted it to the fit was bad, there was no provisioning for an external microphone (and the internal one sucked) and there were a few other quirks. I opted to return it.
After some research I found the "Autopumpkin" brand of Android Head Units; they seemed to have an online support presence and they even had a direct fit unit for my car (mkiv VW Golf). In my car I had the factory head-unit with steering wheel controls (which worked nicely) and I had some reservations about it - so I contacted the company via their website:

Comment: I am looking at purchasing a 11-C0363-US-A for fitment in my 2002 VW Jetta. I have factory steering wheel controls and I am wondering if I require a separate module to make them function properly with this unit?

There was some confusion with regard to my Postal Code and the City in which I live; the folks at AutoPumpkin had some very old data somehow which was listing me as being in a wrong city. This delayed the unit being shipped by a week and a bit:

I received my headunit about a week later (understandable given it was coming from China) and had to pay duties on it (also wasn't unexpected).
Out of the box I could tell I was going to have an issue; the unit looked great etc but the adapter for the antenna was different than what was in my car. I have an early VW so I have the single smaller round disc connector (later cars apparently have some sort of dual plug amplified setup). Fortunately I had a spare antenna adapter harness for my style of car and I was quickly in action.
While the unit came with two different harness adapters for the two different plug configurations I realized right away that the adapter harness for the early style didn't have wires connected for steering wheel controls. With my early style harness the control wire is in a separate harness; I figured I would have to wire it up manually.
I installed the unit and was quite happy with it all things aside; it works great and as I intended. Shortly after plugging it in for the first time I realized the supplied harness wasn't quite right. The IGN and +ve Constant power wires were reversed. Every time I shut off the ignition the unit would die completely and loose all radio presets etc. I swapped the pins in the included harness and was in business. Things were working as expected; but the "Instrument" dimmer wire also wasn't connected. I hooked this up to the instrument dimmer wire but it has no impact on the lights being on/off nor the screen brightness.
I hooked up a USB webcam and configured it for use as a dash cam; I played with software etc. I plugged in the external Mic but it appeared to be dead to the world (no impact at all) and, through my brief research, discovered it was common for terrible mic quality but people were unhooking the front facing mics and soldering leads on the Bluetooth module directly for excellent quality results. I was not scared of doing this; when I had time.
I, unfortunately, was pretty busy with other things in life and didn't have a whole lot of time to play around with trying to make the steering wheel controls work. When I finally got around to it I wasn't having any luck at all making them work. I scoured the internet looking for people having similar issues but didn't run across any information specific to my issue; so I sent an email directly to the original email reply I got from AutoPumpkin assuring me everything would work.

Hello!
I have received my AutoPumpkin unit (11-C0363-US-A) and have it (mostly) installed. One thing that I am having some difficulty with is the Steering Wheel controls. My car is the "early" style wiring and it is not plug-and-play with the harness that is pre-wired for the steering wheel controls. I also had the following problems:
- IGN & +12 wires were backwards (I was able to fix this)
- My antenna is not the same as the included adapter, fortunately I had the necessary one from another stereo.
Can you please help by telling me what wires/pins I should use to connect my stereo to the steeringwheel controls?
Thank you,

It has since been several more days and I have yet to hear anything from the company either way.
This past weekend I disconnected the internal microphone from the face of the unit (cut a trace) and have determined that the provisioning for the external mic doesn't work at all. I've tried several different mics and can't get even a hint of static out of the thing when plugging/unplugging the mics in (Called a buddy's cellphone from my paired phone and listened). The internals of my unit are a fair bit different than anything else I've found online & my Bluetooth module/main boards aren't as conveniently labeled so no soldering happened.
Ultimately I have 2 outstanding questions to be happy with this unit:
How do I get my Steering Wheel controls working?
How do I make the external Mic work with this unit?
I should also add that I received the following:

NEW 2018 Subaru Outback

Hello Everyone,
I traded in my 2014 Subaru Outback for a new 2018 Outback. In my 2014, I removed the original stereo unit and put in a fantastic Android HU with SYGIC GPS, that unfortunately won't fit in my new car. (The old unit is for sale, just sayin')
For the past two weeks, I've been looking to replace the crappy "Starlink" unit in my new 2018, but I'm having difficulty finding one that will install with the current faceplate. I contacted the company that I bought the original one from, and they said that their engineers are working on it, and will take about 6-8 weeks to come up with one. Has anyone found a suitable HU for a 2018 Outback? The issue I have with the HU that came with the car is that the only way to communicate with it is through Bluetooth using a smart phone via the USB input or with Bluetooth. That means wires. It also means having a smart phone, which I don't and NEVER wanted to have. I use the original Motorola V3 RAZR Flip Phones for a number of reasons, and they work just fine.
OR - Does anyone know how I can hack into this "Starlink" unit that came with my car? All I want to do is perhaps root it, or at least install some of my own apps and also to be able to use my hotspot and download stuff. There has to be a 'code' or certain buttons to press to get into this machine, but I haven't been able to find anyone smart enough to figure this one out. I'd be happy to compensate anyone who can help. I did just that with the older HU, so if you can help, just let me know.
Thanks in advance.
Hi justacafe,
I'm in the same situation (OB 2018).
Did you succeed to solve this issue?
Thanks,
Yoni

Hi Yoni,
Yes, but I haven't installed the unit yet. Here's what I did:
1) I ordered the dash face plate (#95-9909), wiring harness (#70-1761) and antenna adapter (#40-LX11) from metraonline dot com
2) The Android head unit I finally decided on is the Pumpkin Android 9.0 Universal Quad-Core 7" TouchScreen Car Radio DVD Player RAM:2GB/ROM:32GB
I've spoken with the folks at Metra about their parts and they guaranteed the fit, and indeed they do. I'm waiting on delivery of the Pumpkin Android 9.0 unit from China. The good news is that I've been consulting with Matthew at 4diyers.com who has a great review and installation video of the Pumpkin Android 8.0 unit and says that the 9.0 Android OS has some major new features and upgrades. You can see his video at: youtube dot com/watch?v=fyeewMstsjo[/url]
I'm not anticipating any major hang-ups in regard to the wiring part of the installation, but I'm not opposed to changing out the amplifier if that's what it takes. The speakers should be okay. So......I do plan on doing a video of the install procedure and I'll send you a link to it once it's finished. In the end, even my Subaru dealer thinks that Starlink 'infotainment' unit really sucks. No one likes it. I belong to the outback forum and the same there......they hate that unit. Good luck.
Mike
P.S. They wouldn't let me post an actual url…...hence the 'dot com'
COOL!
Very useful information - Thanks.
Looking forward for the video / to hear how the process was.
BTW, did you mean #95-8909 instead of #95-9909?
Good luck,
Yoni

Yes....sorry, the 95-8909. The inside dimensions are a perfect fit for that Pumpkin Android 9.0. Have you had a chance to check that unit out? By the way, I was going to get an Android head unit from Seicane dot com. It's a 10.35 Inch Touch Screen, but I would have had to change out the heater/air control unit (3 dials instead of the two in my car) because it wasn't long enough by about 15mm. It seems it fit the years 2015-2017. If you go to their web site, check out the unit, Model:S081992K. I went round and round with these people about updating that product to the latest Android OS and I would have gladly changed out the heater controls. The other thing I didn't quite like about the unit is there's no SD card slot and only 16GB ROM. That meant that my maps program would be internal, instead of the on SD card, (I use SYGIC) which would have eaten up a lot of that 16GB. Otherwise, it's a nice unit and I definitely like the 10.35 inch screen, however it's twice as expensive as the Pumpkin. There ya go....!

Joying CarPlay and Zlink SWC

Hi guys,
So I’m seeing that some of you are interested into getting SWC (it in my case the Joying iDrive like aftermarket SWC) to work with CarPlay. After being active in a few topics here the thing just ends up in silence.
Anyways, after messaging Joying back and forth and finding that Zlink (or Zbox etc) have a “KeycodeRecord”, i tried to program the headunits panel keys to the buttons and BOOM it worked! (Videos below)
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1alrpO8CmGyEE3xIXgwryM-2Iy5_xO7GD/view?usp=drivesdk
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1THxxru22B76y2Rmye4Xgj3-H3b3m_X3o/view?usp=drivesdk
The question is, what protocol do the MCU Panel keys use? Would a HID device also get recognized by Zlink?? And why do some manufacturers oem SWCs work With Zlink/Zbox and some don’t??
It would really improve driving safety to get aftermarket SWC buttons to work with CarPlay as heavily use it everyday, and I’m sure a lot of people do too. I mean if MCU Panel Keys work it should be doable right ?
Thanks in advance!

No one has a question or an idea? There must be some way to make this work...
I believe that it is possible but it will require modifications to the code (in smali). In September I found the code that I believe needs to be modified but life decided to come at me hard since then and I have not had a chance to even glance at it again. Things should calm down near to the end of February so I'll probably revisit it then.

Do you think hooking up an Arduino to the SWC would help making the bridge between the Unit and SWC? Sorry to hear btw, hope things get better for you soon! Appreciate your reply

No I don't. The SWC works with either a CAN module or hardwired. Either way the MCU translates the message into something that is transferred to the FYT SOM via SPI. After a few layers in the receiving chain there is a single case statement that deals with hardwired and CAN SWC commands. It looks to see which apps are open in the background and then uses intents to execute the action within them. There is no case which covers the zlink app but I would like to add one and then I believe it will work.

Wow that’s exceeds my knowledge completely So this is doable via software only? Would an app and root be necessary for this to work?

Can Anyone ID this E46 Unit?

*picture removed - its a Chinese "OEM" looking unit with a purple IR dot bottom right*
Bought an M3 last week and it had this unit in it.
I've not really got a clue how to use it to It's strength though.
I've currently got my phone hotspot turned on 24/7 as I can't see a way of having it come on when it connects to the car.
The launcher in that picture is a pain as the radio app is junk. I can't tune any FM stations other than Radio 2 and 4. Is there an app that can tune actual FM radio rather than Internet radio that's fit for a car?
I've been playing around with a launcher called Agama tonight which allows me to control what apps open from the touch screen, if I can get a proper FM tuner, can it be mapped to the hard button?
I'm sure I'll have more questions so get used to the sight of me and sorry in advance.
Edit: can't post the picture until I've got 10 posts. Hoping some of you more familiar with these types of head units can help.
Without a picture, it's really hard to say what unit it is, but it is possibly one of the Eonon or Xtrons units, take a look at their websites and see if you can ID the unit. Also, take a look in Settings->About Machine and tell us what info is in there, including the firmware version and MCU type/version, which will help in id-ing the unit and giving advice on how to progress.
If it's not too old, then you may be able to install a custom ROM to get it up to date (easy to do). There are other Radio apps that you can use, but setting them as the default can be a pain, I'm not 100% sure but I think you will need a custom ROM to be able to achieve this.
I reckon you might have it with Xtrons based on the button pattern.
Top left down is Navi, Band, Menu, Mode
Some in Google images have different buttons such as home (which the menu seems to do in mine)
I couldn't tell anything of use from the settings but I recall it has android 9 so it can't be that old. It's in better condition that the rest of the interior that's for sure.
I have two female USB's sticking out from under the steering column. What might they be for?
Can anyone recommend a proper tuner app for the radio that uses actual FM radio rather than the Internet?
Thanks for looking.
Another question, do these Chinese units have a sub output?
I don't have HK in the car so looking for a little extra bass.
So I went the medieval route to identifying the unit - I pulled it out and had a look.
The only markings to give it away was a huge "hizpo" sticker on the side. Google/ebay search found this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/7-DAB-An...071044?hash=item5b72aea104:g:R4sAAOSwxMFemRw5
Although that is Android 10 and mine is 9
Looks like a piece of junk tbh. Is it worse junk than it's simular Eonon and Xtron counterparts?
I've been left with the bare minimum wiring at the back. None of the audio/visual in/outputs are there. The GPS antenna is just a stubby on the back of the unit, there's nothing for DAB.
What do we think, junk it and replace it or try and get the right ancillaries?
I was thinking of a small sub and amp and a reverse camera and would like DAB which are all out at the moment..
Hi Matt,
most do not come with DAB+ but you get a usb dongle and install an app, DAB-Z is very good,
https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/3031914365...SWq6_GyD1IyftEY8s3tRj4-ntcgqxfuxoCnX4QAvD_BwE
some of these units are poor, so can be very good. Little hard to tell without the full details of your unit, and if you dont have all the wiring for your sub etc, then its down to you if you replace it or not

Are the wiring harnesses the same across the units that all look the same?
I ask that with a small hope I could buy just the harness but I can't find Eonon or Xtrons sell them on their own.
If you were to recommend the better units, what ones would you say? Has to be from the OEM look selection. Don't like naff looking screens sticking out of the dash.
I keep looking back to the Avin Avant 4 which is much closer to the OEM look with the button layout and has a lot of extra's, one of which is the ibus interface. You seem to be able to access the cars computers like NCS and do basic coding, show the PDC radar and potentially show navigations cues on the binnacle,.
That appears to be a 3rd party gadget I could add to this unit if I wanted to but not sure this one is worth it.
I will say I found an option in the equaliser "loud" that has made a vast improvement to the audio. but it still feels like it needs a sub.

No, the wiring is different on them, so your better off replacing the unit. Eonon and Xtrons have a good following and also dev's playing around with bits, so it would be a good route to go down, but dont hold me to that if it goes wrong haha, also PX6 should be good units, so another safer bet
Sorry, I am a complete noob here and have noticed this in the various different sites selling them - PX6? What is that, is it just the chip in the same vein as a snapdragon for instance?
Th Avant one comes in either PX30 or PX6 - other than the RAM and the storage, what's the benefit of the PX6? Process/bootup speed?

Rockchip is a manufacturer of SoCs (Systems on a chip), they make a range of general-purpose SoCs (eg RK3399). The PX6 is a SoC based on their RK3399 specifically tailored towards android head units. PX6 is the latest, it is a 6 core processor. The PX5 (based on RK3368) is the previous version, it is an 8 core processor. I don't know much about PX30, I believe it is older than PX5. PX6 is faster in most benchmarks despite having fewer processor cores. For the small-screen in-dash units, you probably want to look at Xtrons or Avin, they both have relatively good reputations
I have one of the 9" screen units in my E39 (very similar dash to the E46) and to my eyes, it just looks like it is meant to be there. It's not a perfect fit, but it is very close. But the extra screen real estate makes it more than worth the trade-off imho.
I only noticed today (because I was watching a YouTube video of one being installed) the Avant 4 has no disc drive at all. I rarely use discs, granted, but not sure I'm ready to sacrifice the option altogether.

Help in identifying my Android Head Unit

Hi All, first post,
1. I did a search on google and XDA for key info I obtained from the unit, no luck.
2. The unit resembles this unit - but mine is 10.1 Inch but the interface and apps are basically identical to this unit.
3. Also, unit is Android 10, which is quite old, if upgradeable, would it make a difference to the look and feel?
I tried using the supplier / installer but he is not forthcoming with info, not sure why so hoping someone can point me in the direction, the unit has a mold that fits my Toyota Rav4 2017.
The goal is, to find out how to update the bluetooth / phone app (it sucks) as a starting point.
finally, here are some pics of the unit pre-install and hardware info in settings.
Thanks in advance

Well... don´t even think that you would be able to upgrade Android to a newer one. It´s already the current actual Android version.
You really should blame the vendor that BT is a mess. That is nothing the forum can help with. Your MCU is special for Toyota and you won´t find a matching update for your special unit.
Go back to the seller and ask for an update otherwise you open a dispute on Alibaba. This is the one and only way to get them start working.
Sorry, but these special units with this MCU, that is not easy going.
