Hey guys, I'm currently rooting my Galaxy Tab A sm-p205 by following this guide (https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-a/help/samsung-galaxy-tab-8-0-2019-s-pen-sm-t3971209), which haven't given me any problem thus far.
I followed it to a tee and I've encountered a problem during step 9. Odin3 v3.13.1 crashes suddenly during the VENDOR or USERDATA portion of flashing, it has happened twice, and a third time when I ran as admin, bringing my device to the turquoise "An error has occurred while updating the device software. Use the Emergency recovery function in the Smart Switch PC software" screen, during which I just used the key combo to bring my device to Download mode and tried again. I unchecked "Auto-Reboot" on the options page in Odin, leaving only the "F.Reset Time" box checked.
Another thing I find odd is that everytime I click on the Odin3 application, I first get brought to the "The app you are trying to install is not a Windows Verified App" screen before the app launches.
I sincerely appreciate any form of help. Thanks in advance

Hello guys,
Previously, i tried to root my S4 and somehow it failed. I got this error message like "Super SU binary not installed.." I wanted to get rid of supersu in the system because it is giving me problems like my wifi cannot enable anymore. So, i performed backup and reset option but the supersu program is still inside my phone. i then tried to play with the recovery mode: "apply update from external storage" with the file - I9505_Omega_v3.0_XXUAME2_md5_05D08D598EF1873761CFF710BB628B25.zip, "wipe data/factory reset", "wipe cache partition", etc. After i performed them several times, my phone now is not booting and only stuck at Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505" logo.
i've been reading several forums and most of them are saying that Flash ROM is needed. Therefore, i tried to download I9505XXUAME2_I9505OLBAMDM_SIN.zip from samfirmware.com but before the download finishes, my pc is showing me error message against this file and thus, the download is unsuccessful! Im running out of solutions guys, i really appreciate if you could help me.
What phone model do you have is it SPH-L720? Or the European version?

Head over to http://galaxys4root.com
They have a lot of useful tools and youtube videos on how completely restore your phone to stock.
What I would suggest is to follow the method listed on this site under the "GS4 stock firmware" tab.
To do this, use ODIN (which is a leaked software from samsung used to flash firmwares to devices) to re-flash the firmware to the phone (recovery and all)
THIS WILL DELETE ALL DATA ON THE PHONE!
It sounds like you don't have any acces to the phone, so I'm sure that is the least of your worries.
Use either this site or the sam firmware website.
CONFIRM WITH THE LABEL UNDER THE BATTERY FOR YOUR DEVICE MODEL NUMBER
You MUST use the correct firmware, otherwise you will run into problems like this.
Once you have the odin, drivers, and firmwares downloaded, run ODIN (with admin privileges) and select the firmware that was downloaded for your device for the PDA section.
Unplug the phone from the computer, boot into "download/odin mode" by starting from the phone turned off, turn it on, but before pressing the power button, old the home and vol down buttons, then power button.
Once you see the download mode on the phone screen, and the odin software recognizes it, there will be a button on ODIN that says "flash" or something to that effect.
Let the software do its thing and you should be good to go.
If you are using a windows PC, you need to make sure you have all the drivers, if you are using a mac/linux machine, there is a program called "Heimdall" that is an open source, cross platform version of ODIN, but I personally haven't had any luck with it, and I resorted to dual booting my mac with Windows 7.
If you have any questions feel free to reply, as I pretty much always have a phone/tablet/computer in front of me and will be able to see your reply quickly.
Good Luck!
I attempted to root my phone using Chainfire's method. Evidently, before I started I failed to check for two things, one to make sure usb debugging was properly set. The second thing that I failed to do was insure that I unchecked block reactivation in security options. Now I can't do anything with the phone. It will go into the flash rom mode (down vol. home and power). When I run Odin I get a message saying that the process failed (using cf-autoroot). Then if I try to reboot my phone with the power button, or with (vol.up, home and power) I get a message stating "firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
Of course the phone won't connect to Kies. I am hoping this doesn't mean I have bricked my phone!
Can anyone offer a suggestion please? I am desperate.
Thanks for any and all help!!
Ignoring instructions can have consequences. You've probably got some messed system files now. But you can recover with Odin.
Backup your photos and anything else of importance. Then do a factory data reset (in the Settings menu), followed by using Odin to flash the full stock firmware image for your device /carrier.
That will take you back to a stable, stock system. To make rooting easier you would do well to choose a S5 4.4.2 firmware image with a build date before June 3rd.

Hi,
I have attempted to update my device to Android 6.0.1
- grabbed ROM from sammobile.com
- put device in download mode
- used ODIN by just loading the .tar.md5 file in AP and hitting start
ODIN spat something like "Write operation failed" just after this "hidden.img.ext4" file.
Googled a bit and it seems that deleting the "hidden.img.ext4" from the tar would be all that is needed.
But...
ODIN would not start flashing with the new .tar file. So I have rebooted the device and bam!
Code:
The device now reads "An error occurred while updating the device software. Use the Emergency recovery function in the Smart Switch PC software)
So I went on and installed the Smart Switch app for the emergency recovery function. Tried with 3 versions of it 4.2.18xxxx - 4.1.16xxxx - 4.1.17xxxxx. No chance in the first version, the last two versions would allow me to input the device information (model and S/N) but both spat back at me
Code:
Smart Switch App says "SM-A500FU does not support initializing. Please contact our service center"
So, I am now stuck with a permanently turned-on-screen device that would not go into download / recovery mode (but it does reboot to the same screen), the battery is non-removable, and I also got some Z3x samsung tool thing at hand, hmm... Any chance for me to put it back into download mode or is it good for the recycle bin ?
Thank you
Hi guys, I've been looking on the forums and i didn't find a way to solve my problem, my Samsung J5 J500m has the "An error has occurred while updating the device software. Use the emergency recovery function in the smart switch PC software" screen. I've tried both smart switch and Samsung kies and it hasn't worked, the thing is that i don't have the "depuration usb" on, nor the eom unblocked, the phone interal memory is almost full and i don´t have any custom recovery such as twrp or others.
If anyone knows how to solve this or can send me to the right thread i would really appreciate it

You don't need usb debugging or oem unlocked to recover your phone. Smart switch's emergency recover detector isn't that reliable sometimes it doesn't detect devices in emergency recover mode. However there should be a second tab in smart switch to recover your phone. It's "device initialization", device initialization works similar like odin. If you don't have this tab then you probably installed a newer version of smart switch. If that's the case follow this instruction:
1. Uninstall current installed smart switch from your pc
2. Download this ealier version of smart switch from samsungs official download center.
3. Install it. Once you run smart switch you might get a pop up screen to update to the latest smart switch version: don't update it!!. press cancel.
4. Now reinstall usb drivers in smart switch: more > reinstall device driver. Make sure to disconnect your cable first.
5. if finished, locate to More > Emergency software recovery and initialization > device initialization
6. There is a section to enter your model name, enter SM-J500M. Press search.
7. Now you need to enter your serial number. As you can't access your phone to view your serial number, you can still find it printed on your phone packaging or behind your device's battery. Enter your serial number in S/N section. Press confirm. Note: New devices don't support "device initialization" but your device should be still supported
8. Now you should see a pop up window where you see something like "initialized version". Press Ok and let smart switch recover your device. You should see a bar appearing on your device screen. If you press "ok" be warned! this step will wipe all your data on your internal storage!
9. After it's finished your device should boot normal again.
Good Luck! :fingers-crossed:
It says "this devices don't support device initialization"
Thanks anyway,

Can you access odin mode (volume down + home button + power button to boot to odin mode)?
If yes, flash a stock firmware for your device using odin. You can download stock firmwares from SamMobile, SamFrew or Updato. Make sure you run Odin as administrator
Thank you, it worked!! :victory::victory:
i was trying whit a sammobile firmeware, i supose it was the wrong one, thanks for sending me the right one
Hey guys! Greetings from Spain
I've a Tablet Samsung Galaxy Tab A SM-T580 and it displays the following error each time I power on: "An error has ocurred while updating the device software. Use the Emergency recovery function in the Smart Switch PC software.".
I can not go to any menu or somewhere else and I've seen it's a common troubleshoot when root or flash custom ROMs, but I've never done anything like that.
I've already tried the following things:
Connect it with Smart Switch, but the software says my model is not supported. As I've seen in some guides with this troubleshooting, I've tried to test with an older SmartSwitch release or try some options with "More" button, like reinstall device drivers or use Emergency recovery software tool, but device was not displayed on the list and any of these options have worked.
Connect it with Samsung Kies, but device is on "Connecting" status everytime and nothing else happens.
Try to reinstall an official ROM with Odin, however, is not possible to put it in Download Mode as when I press Home + Power + Vol Down it reboots displaying again the same error.
Contact with Samsung support, but they just asked me to follow stupid steps for newbies and conclude telling me I should go to an official technical service and pay as is not under warantee anymore.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

The only thing I can suggest is to unplug it while showing the error screen, and let the battery run down completely. Then plug in a charger while holding the three buttons.

Pilot error.
You're not holding the 3 buttons for long enough. Keep held down until download mode appears.
Hi,
I have this problem with this same tablet. I've spent several days trying every option on xda.
The one solution that seem to work for some people is referenced in this post:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=79232815&postcount=40
I've tried to do this as well but odin fails while trying to flash system.img. Hopefully it works for you.
(somewhere in that same thread it said to get the "cellular south" firmware from sammobile and try to flash that as it is supposed to not have the FRP-lock feature which (among other things) blocks flashing from odin.)
After much grief with this tablet I think the best use case for it is to recycle it for parts, to use it as a paper weight or to throw it really hard into the head of the CEO of Samsung.
