poco x3 is a such mid-range device with such lovely specs but what i don't like is its outdoor visibility cause i can't read texts or see colors easily and it make my eyes feel uncomfortable. Unfortunately this is a hardware problem and can't be fixed by an update so if you're really serious about maximum brightness poco x3 isn't an adequate phone for this.

Any smartphone in this price range has these problems, most are even worse, what I did is putting a matte glass protector on it, now it´s fantastic even in the worst conditions, I don´t even need 100% display bright anymore, the difference is HUGE.

That actually sounds like a great idea. Could you please post the link to that matte glass protector? I can't seem to find it anywhere.
Thanks.

I bought 3(always some breaks after some time..) of these : https://pt.aliexpress.com/item/1005001720877033.html?spm=a2g0s.8937460.0.0.fd462e0eQDJBsy
Short answer: No more than 420nits on X3 and X3 pro units I have had experience with.
Long answer: Before X3 NFC I had Oppo A5 2020 with Maximum 480 nits advertised brightness.
Now I have a Poco X3 and my brother has a Poco M3
If I compare my X3 with Poco M3 (400 nits advertised) and Oppo A5 2020 (480nits max advertised) and consider that other phones perform at their advertised brightness.
I perceive that X3's maximum brightness is no more than 420 nits indoors and outdoors both. There's a shift in screen contrast / gamma value which ruins picture quality but no 550-630 nits boost I read about in reviews.
I think Xiaomi uses multiple grades of hardware components for same device.
Review units and the units sold in EU and Wealthy Middle Eastern countries like KSA, UAE etc are made with A Grade components
While those sold in India, Pakistan, Philippines, Indonesia etc are made with B grade components. Although some A quality units make their way to these countries too but those are rare. (I guess varies by available stock and warranty providers e.g. there are 4+ distributors/ warranty providers) of Xiaomi phones in Pakistan.

Note 8 has the most advance Amoled display, it is the strongest part.
I expected better outdoor visibility , at least better than note7's
Could be better outdoors, but would have to sacrifice the high gloss display and nobody is going for that.
Awesome outdoor visibility no issue so far
well, when one goes for a sunny trip could apply a cheap matte screen film. In this way can read without seeing the face, considering that is still the best phone for outdoor visibility. the definitive solution as are years I speak in a mobile reading forum would be a cover eink that takes the content of the main screen, even a separate bluetooth one. Samsung is really no smart on that. Apparently I heard about licence problems with amazon that bought a kind of yotaphone licence in eu and us, but on the other side a separate small flexible bt device would make the battery of the samsung note 8 last forever, would make it ideal to read, seeing google maps on the bike or even consulting the phone with one hand in dangerous places, or when can fall, and would be a great ereader because actual ereaders are really sluggish, it takes ages to open a dedicated ereader going to the page, etc, instead transferring the images in real time would be an amazing profit opportunity. It would find bilions of enthusiastic users, and great plus, because of the independent hardware accessory nature, could be compatible with all the samsung models. I do not know if are the companies are stupid, or my self that I am giving for free such a valuable hint that could even survive to the flex screens
I can see the display on my Note 8 in direct sunlight in Hong Kong.

Outdoor visibility is not good even on Max brightness
It's pretty poor indeed. Doubting to go for another phone because of the bad brightness.
For me is excelent!
I leave mine on auto brightness and have no issues using it outside

Maybe they have different panels? For me in sunny Germany it is often very hard to read the display of the sun is out.
for me is outdoor visibility in big sunny day (in europe) is without (real) problem, but is need say:
- only if is not glass full of fingerprints
- in hand is need little move phone to angle not in direct sun
- if on lcd is app with dark theme, then is of course less visibility that with light theme...

Lol, we have had and still having a lovely summer this year
Screen Brightness is just a tad bit worse than my previous phone... (Alcatel Idol 3 5.5")
Thus barely visible in full brightness outside, unless you're in the shadows. Oh well... (3 Stars)
I'd agree that screen brightness isn't brilliant in strong sunlight compared to other phones and it's probably one of the worst aspects of the phone.
One thing that I have noticed is that if you have the adaptive light setting activated in settings then the phone never seems to be able to get more than about 80% brightness.
If you use an app such as YAAB instead of the standard setting then you can control the average brightness and increase the brightness and hit 100%.

Go to Settings>About
It should be before the build number.
In the minimum brightness thread, one guy said that if your panel is not Novatek, you're display is good.
If it is novatek you will have problems with max brightnes minimum brightness and the screen looks more yellowish

That is touch panel firmware version not the actual hardware LCD screen type, mine 07 goodix something the firmware version
And I don't have any yellow issues on my screen
https://youtu.be/qE73KnVmDD0Maybe that helps. This guy made a replacement, and all good
Not even on sunny days, but when it's cloudy during the day and the sun is not directly visible, the brightness is not very good although it's serviceable. Several times I pull my phone out outside and at first think to turn up the brightness because it's difficult to see only to realize that it's on max brightness already.
For me I have no visibility problems with sunlight outside

I struggled a little yesterday with visibility on max brightness in very bright conditions outdoors . I would say the Samsung screen has the slight advantage over the P20 Pro outdoors on the Note 8 as does the iPhone 7..

Can you compare it to a galaxy s8 / s9?
I just tried it vs my s8+ and the s8+ was a little darker than the p20 pro on max settings, but the s8+ has that boost in sunlight which helps a lot I guess.
S8 has better outdoor visibility in my opinion. Do you have a glass screen protector on, as that seems to destroy visibility in sunlight for me.
If you go into Developer menu there is an option called "Increase readability under sunlight" makes a noticeable difference.
With the increase readabilty on in direct sunlight it's better than an iphone 7 plus..and S7...at least for me
I didn't know about the "Increase readability under sunlight" on my phone until it was pointed out in this thread. Really interesting feature. Works pretty well.

The outdoor visibility is not that good.
And even worse when u try to take a picture.
Also I noticed brightness booster is not that effective.
But in the end. The device is really good. Best in this price bracket.
screen is difficult to read outside, brightness is always set to max and its still too low even with indirect light. unreadable in direct sunlight.
It's okay for me in sunlight when set to auto(I never found any outdoor mode option so idk if enabled ) but with sunglasses it's too dark, usable to do something or maps but no for media consumption. I compared with xiaomi mi9 in shop and Asus is brighter(indoors) for me with better colors, but in sunlight screen have more reflections so it may appear darker I think.
brightness of Asus screen

Is this something that can be increased with a software update as being able to see the screen in sunlight is important? Thank you.
The outdoor visibility is the best from all of my previous devices so I am happy.
dead thread but anybody able to compare with mate 9?
Sorry. Can't.

so, you can see the apps, you can write easily in direct sunlight?
thanks
I am usually very fussy when it comes to sunlight legibility and I have had many phones, but this seems more than fine for normal usage outdoors. It's no iPhone but certainly not as bad as some reviewers make it out.
Auntomatic bright on

It's actually not very bright in direct sunlight. Was out on the back porch with it today, noticed it right away.
Not bright enough by far for me. Compared to other flagship phones I've used, S20, p40 pro, oppo find X pro all better
Not bright enough for me in direct sunlight. Auto brightness is weaker than last year's 1. Hope this can be sorted in software later.
It could use a bit more brightness indeed. Sometimes while taking photos when it's very sunny, it can be a bit hard to see the screen.
Not bright at all coming from the S20+ and P30 Pro. Great screen resolution but utterly abject brightness for some reason.
