[Q] Feedback about Redmi 2 device

The phone is OK for a normal user It has all most all the features of a smart phone and i am using it for the last 6 moths didn't face any problems,i feel that MIUI software is not so user friendly in the beginning but once you get used to it you will like it.

Beware the enormous lag, the ROM is extremely slow, the phone wont be upgraded to Android 5, it will remain on 4.4.4 KK.
Miui 7 is really a 4.4.4 for this device. (only a few Xiaomi phones will get Lollipop)
I have a Redmi 2 for 5 months, Xiaomi iare not planning to develop Lollipop for this smartphone.

About update for Android 5, usually i try to analyze custom roms available for each device and others development support existent . We have some development in progress like CM 5.1 with some issues to fix

Hi! I've been using the Redmi2 4G version for a couple of months now, and I think I'm ready to give an opinion on it, to the best of my abilities.
For this price range, it's actually very tough to beat the Redmi 2, with specs. The looks are premium, you won't feel like using a cheap Chinese-build phone, it's actually well made. I have an issue with the back panel finish, it's rather slippery despite being matte. I'm pretty sure you would have researched on it's specs, so you would know, that it is THE DEAL for it's price category.
The back camera is pretty good, macro mode is specifically good, but night photography isn't that great. Front camera's performance is rather satisfactory.
Battery is pretty good, lasts a day for me, with moderate usage.
There are NO heating issues with my phone. Off course, if you will play Asphalt for a couple of hours straight, it is bound to heat up.
Display is pretty intriguing for a budget phone.
If you've used MIUI in the past, you would know of it's resemblance with the iOS. While MIUI is pleasing to the eyes, and pretty simple to use and learn, I would add, that it's best for the 2GB RAM phones. MIUI with a 1GB RAM phone sucks BIG time, so, yeah, Redmi2 has issues here, lagging, crashing apps at times.
Now, since I prefer the stock-android feel better, I have flashed mine with a pretty stable CM11 ROM.
If you're a heavy gamer, I recommend you to browse phones in higher price ranges. Redmi2 is a good everyday usage phone, but certainly NOT the one for heavy gamers.
Long cut short:- Go for it, it is pretty awesome. P.S. - I don't know if Redmi 2's Prime version(2GB RAM) is available in your country, if it is, rather go for that.

Really i got it attention and look for Redmi 2 cause the specs and good price tag. I use today a Quadcore cortex armv7 snapdragon 200 , but without version updates upper JB 1 (4.1.2) we waiting so far , but the factory strategically isn't willing to put lot of money for invest licences .
This situation made me take a decision to start development at point to create my own roms
I like very much about MIUI, used on my own others devices ( Defy Mb526 Atrix 4G) . One of my works development was inspired by MIUI V6 , creating my design and ported some MI apps for package
I really have interest to get one Redmi. Here just Redmi 2 it's avaliable in local market but others devices will be launched soon like MI 4

Don't expect Lollipop update for Redmi2. The Mi team isn't quite interested in giving Lollipop updates. So, that's quite a letdown.

I am facing a problem with the phone, there is poor microphone sound at other end. Anyone know any solution to this issue? Please help

Maybe the Mi Team in not interested in Redmi2, but there's something on the stage right now. This CM 12.1 release is really awesome:

Did tou try change roms? Like MIUI to CM or CM to MIUI. If yes you can change some options in development menu tried search on google. :good:

I have information published in local news homepages that the Redmi 2 will be updated for MI 7 and avaliable in "Betta Supported devices List"

I'm one of the first buyers here in Brazil. On the launching event, the MIUI Brazilian website got bugged and fewer people was able to buy (I'm one of them, hacking the page).
I got a few complains:
the HDR Camera is laggy as hell when I take pictures.
There's no app drawer.
Sometimes I'm unable to unlock the phone, because of lag (I think). Seriously, this is annoying.
When phone gets too slow, when I go to the home screen the interface reloads itself.
Playing games like Fallout Shelter is a big problem, lagging as hell.
1GB RAM isn't enough for the phone (for me, at least) .
Sometimes the phone heats so much.
The phone has a x64 architecture, but the MIUI is 32 bits. Sounds like a waste of processing power.
There's no support forum for Brazilian users in the official boards.
No Lollipop support and no plans to receive update.
Things I liked:
Built-in security, like Antivirus and cleaning app.
The interface is so beautiful.
LTE (4G here in Brazil) for BOTH sim cards.
I can Easily switch wich sim card to make a call, send SMS or use Mobile data.
The frontal camera has a special facial recognition, telling the age, for example.
The phone charges super fast (2200 mAh battery).
It's cheap, compared to other phones. It costs less than $ 150 (at the time I bought it).
I don't think that I'm a hard user for this phone (seriously, I didn't even play so much on the phone). I know it's a mid-term smart phone. But the MIUI lag is annoying (I got crazy sometimes). I tried to use the beta versions of the MIUI rom, tried to use performance scripts, Greenify, other camera apps.
Now I'm using a customized CM 12.1 for the device, to see if I'm able to use easily the phone, like driving in my car, got lost and easily open Waze or Google Maps to see where I need to go. Actually, I need to stop and park the car, clean current apps (some times reboot) to properly use.

i have for several days a 2GB RAM / 16 GB ROM version and I can say that I have none of the below mentioned lagging problems.
What else is different in my setup is that I am already on MIUI 7 developer.
I should admit also that I did not play any game.
Coming from an Iphone I am kind of used of not having an app drawer and MIUI 7 is pretty eye candy...
Right now I am considering if CM (11 or 12) are worth the try... I think the main gain will be a battery life increase (at least from my other experience with CM), but I cannot see any other benefits, at least for me. I should study a bit more.

If you want to try the CM roms, I need to advise you: see what model your phone is. Actually the CM roms supports only HM2014811-HM2014813. The compiled baseband maybe does not work for you Redmi model.
There's a chance of you apply the rom and it does not have support for LTE networks. Like my case, my phone is HM2014819 and I discovered this misfortune today, after reading tons of posts and articles and flashing 10 times my phone
The good news that the performance of CM is far superior than the MIUI roms.

nevertheless the battery life i see as the main gain of CM vs MIUI. Is there something else worthing, I mean like really making a difference?

Thanks @juliovedovatto for your feedback, have good experience and content for fixes report.
The Xiaomi Team recently replied me about issues that have been causing, lags and this report turn around the device performance, it's needed constant evolution to directing it in fixes updates. All of Redmi owner's can do it mentioning in Xiaomi support channels
They also informed that the objectives for now is update for MI7 and we will be wait this results!

What The [email protected]^%? I mean, Xiaomi Mi2 got Lollipop first and it's been around since 2013! What would they've been thinking, not to update lot newer devices? Where did you get the information that upgrade for Redmi 2 is not planned?

For example, when Skype is running on the background, it disconnects itself (and its icon disappears from notification line) and when I click its icon again, it opens as if I freshly opened it, loading everything again. It was locked in recent apps so it won't stop. But it will. Even when nothing else is running. Sometimes when I have browser and few other apps running at once (not many, two or three other apps) and a music player, sometimes the music randomly stops - it is killed for RAM even if it's locked (i absolutely hate this on MIUI but fortunately it happens quite rarely now, perhaps the last weekly update messed something up again).
MIUI is extremely RAM-hungry. I mean - if Windows XP can run on 512 MB RAM device and be perfectly usable even for complex work, what is this supposed to be? And with Cyanogen on my Redmi 2, there is still buttload of free RAM when I have several apps opened just like before on MIUI. Currently I'm running CM12 Lollipop ROM made by Zwiliev which I installed today, when I finally got tired of MIUI. And since some V6 build, Mass Storage disappeared so there is no sane way to connect a phone as a flash drive. For me, Cyanogen solved all those things, and many more that I don't feel like writing down here.
On the other hand, the Redmi 2 itself is a decent phone. With very nice headphone output quality - the best of all phones I've ever had. The camera is pretty good, too. The display is beautiful - i thought that it is nuts to have 1024xSomething resolution on a device this small but it really looks very good. And MIUI has in-built root capability, at least. Wifi is powerful enough to have signal where my previous smartphone was already out of range. Replaceable battery and memory card slot. The hardware is indeed very very good for those money so if you don't mind using Cyanogen, buy it

Hello folks,
Quick and simple question- is it worth buying the Redmi 2 Prime now? Is the hardware too outdated for Marshmallow?
I know the Snapdragon 410 isn't the best out there, but is it capable of handling a custom Marshmallow ROM, be fluid and stable? I'm enquiring about the custom ROM since I'm aware that this phone is still officially stuck in KitKat.
I'm a relatively light user. I don't play any games on my current phone (the old Xperia Mini). I mostly just use Telegram, Whatsapp, Sync for Reddit, PocketCasts and Blackplayer Ex. I won't be even browsing all that much.
My current concerns are -
1) Being outdated the moment I buy it- it was released in the middle of last year.
2) The call quality is rather bad, supposedly
3) Heating Issue
Should I be buying something that officially supports a recent OS? (Lollipop or Marshmallow) How important is that I be using a new one?

UPDATE : My opinions about Redmi 2 Prime after owning it for 10 days.

I know that 10 days ain't a large enough time frame to provide a detailed analysis, but this wasn't meant to be a review per se anyway. There are tonnes of those online- This is more my personal impressions against my expectations.
+ The phone heated up extremely quickly in idle state on the first powerup- less than 5 minutes infact. This raised a red flag in my mind and my immediate thought was to return the device. However, installing the OTA update and suffice to say, that particular heating issue was gone in an instant. Weird, actually.
+ The back cover is quite slippery. Using an additional case fixed it, but added up to the bulk.
+ I like the thickness a lot- felt just right. This is from a person coming from 5 years with an Xperia Mini ST15i.
+ MIUI is really quite the pleasant UI. I spent a few hours going through all that it had to offer, and boy there is a lot. I expected the general UI performance to be much worse, and excluding the few lags and hitches, it was overall a smoothly running system.
- Out of the box, the available RAM was idling around 800-900mb. Launching Chrome made it take a huge hit and fell as much as to 400mb, which made me concerned about the performance again.. However, I quickly replaced Chrome with my go-to Habit browser, and everyone lived happily ever after.
+ However nice MIUI is and can be, my heart was already set for Nova Launcher anyway. Installing Nova Launcher freed up about 200-300mb of RAM. Just goes to show that MIUI really does eat your RAM and doesn't have much to show for it, in terms of performance. This isn't to say that MIUI is bad, its just that its not well optimized, atleast on KK.
+ My next step was to root the phone- an extremely easy process with this handset.
+ Removing all bloatware and a bunch of core processes freed upto 1.3gb of RAM. That was a massive jump, and significantly improved multitasking.
+ Over the course of the next few days, I installed my usual apps and imported data from my previous Android phones. This is about 30 apps, about 8 of which accesses the internet on a timely basis. RAM still hovered around 1.2-1.3gb mark.
+ I have Whatsapp, Gmail, Wallet from Budgetbakers and MLO2 open all the time. Generally RAM is around 900mb-1gb at idle. This is very, very good for my usage, and also good stuff in general.
General Impressions
+ Extremely impressed with the battery life on this thing! In one instance I had about 6.30 hours of screen time with said apps open, occasional youtubing and background syncing- had 39% remaining. Nuts, considering how super low my expectations were.
+ The display is so darn good, AFTER I removed the pre-installed matter screen protector.
+ I don't care about the camera, but I can say its decently better compared to my old phone. I don't use it much.
+ I haven't used the front camera, don't care. Not one to take selfies.
- One aspect of the phone that really shows how many corners were cut to dip down the price, is the micro-usb charging slot. It is simply a rectangular cut out, and not shaped to the contour of the USB slot- meaning, you can damage your phone in no time if you use it carelessly.
I decided to stick with stock MIUI for now, since none of the custom ROMS are 100% stable. I can attribute to this due to Redmi not releasing kernel sources, so any kind of reverse-engineered ROM / Kernel won't be completely reliable for use as a daily driver. Was really disappointed in finding this out, since I was really looking forward to using Marshmallow. Despite that, I got used to being at KK, and truth be told it doesn't really matter all that much as long as you can use you phone and get work done with it.
If you can live with Kitkat and are willing to take the time to tweak the phone, this is a really good buy. I'm seriously impressed by what Xiaomi has brought out to the general public. SO FAR, that is. Lets see if my opinion changes for the worse in the coming months! But by then, this phone might get completely replaced with its newer brother, the Redmi 3.

I've recently replaced my Zenfone 5 with a Redmi 2 and I am quite pleased. Snapdragon 410 is not the newest SoC around but paired with 2GB of RAM performs just fine with my usage (no games, mostly web browsing, some rather lightweight apps and YT)., has decent support when it comes to alternaltive firmware (I'm running official CM13.1), it's scheduled for MIUI 8 upgrade and will quite possibly receive an unofficial Android N port of some sort as well.
I have experienced no heating or call quality issues, my average screen on time is around 6 hours. Overall the phone provides really good performance and is well made, especially considering the price.

its up to you....if you know about custom roms (we have official cm) ,and more into flashing different roms,experimenting with the phone then this is the best device at present in 7000 range but if you want to keep the experience as it is i.e stock (miui)....then go for some other device., leave it

yes, redmi 2 roms can be flashed on redmi 2 prime. Basically both phones are same the only difference is ram, redmi 2 has 1 gb whereas 2 prime has 2 gb.

Oh thanks guys- I didn't see your replies till now. Ended up ordering the Redmi 2P anyway; couldn't find anything else that matched it at that price point.

I've done my fair share of experimentation with Android devices, especially during the GB-KK era; ROMS, Kernels, Overclocking and what have you. I'm no longer interested in those kinds of things (nor do I have the time) but having said that, I will definitely root and install an AOSP ROM. I don't care about MIUI one bit!
I just need a stable daily driver. Not worried about any sort of wow factor, so I don't mind spending this less as well.

Just wanted to say: If you don't use MIUI you won't have any heating issue at all.
It IS quite outdated. I'd say that buying a Redmi 3S or 3 Pro would be a better idea. Even a Redmi 3. For the apps you said you use, there won't be any problem at all if you use a custom CM13 / 12.1 / XOSP / AOSP
Since i don't know from where you are i can't tell you what good phones you have on your country.

The Redmi 3S / Pro hasn't been released here in India, nor have there been any release dates since a long while. Plus I needed a phone right away.
Nevertheless, its good to know that heating will be reduced with AOSP. Do you know if the phone supports the official stock ROM- the plain unmodified AOSPs? Like the ones found on Moto Gs / Nexus devices. If it does, and does it well, I'm a happy man.

If you have the option to wait, wait for the 3S, it will be a much better experience.

It doesn't have official support for any 100% pure AOSP, only unnoficial. There are plenty of AOSP roms official though, all Ground Zero for example (TipsyOS, TeslaOS and Validus ROM). Also, CM13 is 100% official.
On the unnoficial side of things, there are lots of ROMs to play with, and we have a CAF AOSP which is 100% pure, even if Unnoficial.

Hi guys, I updated my first post to view my impressions after having owned the device for 10 days.

Redmi 2/Prime is Still one of the best Out there , taking into concern the Budget of 7k , and to top it off , Regular Updates of MIUI and Also Redmi 2/Prime is one of the Devices having Much much development in fields of Custom Roms to Kernels to Mods .. surely it may be old now , but Taking into my own words seriously, old is gold ..
There are other devices that are better in specs at the same prize range , (Vibe K5 , Coolpad note 3 lite) , but Quality Matters too , and Our Redmi Defeats both of them , in that + it feels Premium than the other two that I mentioned (I have used all 3) ....
So , should you buy it ? Hell yeah , unless You can increase your Budget and Go for Higher Devices

I would definitely same the for the latter part of your post- it is great up until 7k. If you have the capability to increase your budget by even 1k, definitely look elsewhere. Once the novelty wears off, one can really regret buying this device AT THIS POINT IN TIME. It definitely IS outdated in terms of stable software. That's the important part.
Ofcourse, all this changes if we see a Marshmallow upgrade from Xiaomi. Then this device will be worth recommending again.
I would NOT suggest this device if your plan is to toy with it and experiment with custom ROMS, kernels AND at the same time, use it as your daily driver.
I would only suggest it if you are completely alright with being stuck with KK.

Whoa whoa whoa @agentmilo, get first things straight at first. The device isn't at all outdated. Because all the processing power that SD410 has, is quite extravagant for our working standard. RAM is not your issue of concern at all. Let all the game played by the player who knows the best of it, the Android itself. Android doesn't slow down for lack of RAM, I mean we are not in the 512MB age. Every other software available for our device is 90% stable. And the one's like RR is 100%. The device heats up based on whay and how are you dealing with it, and every other device heats up naturally, because that's the basic physics between semiconductors bro. Performance will vary on the kernel you're using, and try it with latest ultimate BK, it's everything it could be. The beast is still good enough for our everyday tasks to medium high gaming. And for you, it's overkill.

Hey, I'm looking into getting an upgrade from a rn7. I was thinking of getting the mi A3 or the mi 9 lite. Checked at one of the mi stores and saw that the mi9T's price is not that far off from the other two. Would the 9T be worth it? Saw some issues on the forum about the whole sensors thing. Only way to avoid that is to not tamper with the rom right? Any input would be appreciated. :fingers-crossed:

The phone overall is great with no compromises considering the price. Sensors are working alright with roms (depending on what rom you use as most of them are still under development).

As a owner i don't advice to get the Mi9t. I would get the A3 or the Mi9t PRO.
We have great, but very few devs and i though i would love the popup camera but i hate it

What an awesome device, custom comunity was rich, lots of roms, kernels and stuff.... it was a really fun adventure, what an awesome Price/Spec device...
OK, then i wanted to upgrade to a Mid Range Phone with an oled screen , the screen of my RN5pro was broken...
I was between the normal RN7 and for more money the Mi 9T global 128gb (at the price of the 64gb)... so i picked the 9T...
At the begining i was very happy but with time my opinion changed , i regret not taking the RN7 (non pro)....

The custom rom comunity is beginning, only very few devs for roms and they need support , the 9T was rapidly shadowed by his Pro brother the Mi 9T Pro...
My phone is Stock i only unlocked the bootloader ready to flash the only official custom rom... Havoc
Stock MIUI in the global version comes with google and Xiaomi Apps , double apps.... Gmail-Xiaomi Mail , etc , the usual bloatware of xiaomi , i use the Java tool to debloat it, now is more light...
GPS works good ( i use it every day), everything in stock just WORKS , nothing rare or buggy.
I only play clash royale, a light game no problem...
Device is too wide, like the redmi N5pro i had.... i dont like wide phones anymore, it's heavy, that gives you a quality feel but too heavy to stay at bed with the phone...
Screen quality for me is just ok, i love oled since my S8, this phone in my opinion was like my RN5 pro with oled...
The same for performance, my broken RN5pro almost with any custom rom feels the same as my Mi 9T....
Sound is ok , the fast charge is great and the adapter comes in the box, the battery is just average for that huge size, is more the restrictive work of MIUI....
The pop up camera ... i don't take many selfies is below at this price range.... the main camera is ok, gcam doesn't improve it dramatically like my RN5pro, looks almost the same ...
I prefer IP68 with notch than a pop up camera... i had an S8
Overall... is a very, very average device, an OK device, doesnt shine in anything but doesn't falls in anything.... with a grey future thanks to the Pro version, we need to keep motivated the devs ...
Im gonna say, go for the normal Redmi Note 8 in 64gb , save money, it's gonna have a HUGE rom development thanks to the pro's mediatek....lol
i should instead got the RN7 or waited for the 8 (normal versions not pro) or for a little more a brand new S9(normal for the width size) or other last year flagship that dropped the price...

It's just my opinion, i had many flagships in the past but economy is ****ty in my country and i was looking for new options.... Xiaomi is the brand to go for custom rom/price/performance relation, but you have to choose the right device....

Thanks very much for your input. Im considering the mi 9T because of the 730, I kinda do mobile gaming like CoD and vainglory so the 730 would be a great upgrade. The other phone I'm considering that's officially released here is the mi A3. I saw the mi 9T and yes it's kind of wide. Have you encountered any issues with your unit so far?

The pop-up camera kinda worries me too. A3 is one of the options, though a bit bad spec wise, but official Android 10 would be great. Thanks for the suggestions.

That's funny, what you feel and where you come from is my history.
Here in Brazil. i got the Redmi Note 5 Pro too, crazy cheap, build quality is great (i actually miss it slimmer and metal body, i prefere it over the Mi9t Glass thicker body) and the FP sensor may be on the back but it worked like a charm.
Mi9t is a phone that i kind of regret to buy, i should got the PRO version to have amazing mod community that they have.

The problem is that the software bugs it easy, only by flashing a new ROM, it broke 2 times and i could ONLY fix by flash a new persist partition AND LOSE MY L1 DRM.. When i say broke it's not even that it wont open.. but all the time it open and close with a nasty error message

I have a mi 9t and my girlfriend too, both devices working great (my pop up camera makes a louder noise than my girlfriend's but it turns out other people have this issue, and it's normal) so don't worry about it. Performance excellent, love the phone, I used a mi a2 before and I tought I would switch to a custom rom instantly but now I love miui, so I recommend it.
And yeah if light use, easy two day battery life (I have 2 phones to prove it, believe me, great battery life!)

I want to buy Nova 5T or Mi 9T. I really like 9T but I have some concerns :
1. How good is AMOLED display build quality? Is it color accurate? How easily can burn in happens? Many people complained about jitter and ghost touch problems on this phone.
2. Many people complain about the battery life after updating to MIUI 11. Is the problem fixed and is the battery life like MIUI 9?
3. Android 11 will definitely come to 9T but what about 12 and 13? I’m not familiar with Xiaomi policy do they make old phones slow on purpose?
And 9T users ... What are cons and pros in the real life usage?

Stuttering and worse batery life after update to Miui 11, also bugs... Stay on iphone. I will switch back to iphone this month.

The 9t is my first Xiaomi device too, I only owned Motorola devices until now.
1) For my eyes the display is colour accurate, no burn in until now (have to say that I own the device just a few month). No jitter or ghost touch problems.
2) I'm on latest MIUI 11 stable and battery life is just awesome compared to my other devices. I'm a heavy user (lot of SOT, WLAN/mobile data,GPS and Bluetooth) and until now I wasn't able to get under 35-40% after a day.
3) I can't tell you, maybe someone with more Xiaomi experience than I has to answer that.
If you're aware of the Xiaomi typic things like bloatware (can be solved with root privileges or by ADB without root) this device is a really good deal for the money. Camera, Display, overall speed.... I'm very satisfied with it.

Excellent device for its price., Using miuimix room or use miroom for best battery life and performance.

If you're an iPhone user I recommend you buying a Phone with Android stock or close like a Google Pixel or a OnePlus. You'll get a "polished" experience that will remind you iPhones whitout the drawbacks. MIUI, One UI... are less polished, I would not buy them If I were an iPhone user.

I was using iphone XR before moving to Mi 9T.
Hardware wise is great and comparable to phones 2 to 3 times its price (think Oneplus 7T pro).
The only problem I have is with MIUI"s push notifications. There are many articles saying to turn on/off some options to make it work. But there are even more posts/comments saying that push notifications do not work even with those tweaks. After flashing to custom rom, the push notifications started working perfectly without any tinkering.
This is a deal breaker as I need push notifications to work reliably (so I can't use MIUI). With custom roms however, you have to play cat and mouse game with banking apps that keep getting more strict with detecting phones that are not using stock firmware.

1. The display is very good. I've had the phone for a few months now and have had no problems with burn-in or jitter/ghost touch problems
2. I was only on Miui for a few weeks, but the battery life is excellent!
3. I don't think that you will get many major updates, I think the Mi 9T will not even be updated to Android 12. But you will get feature updates (Miui updates).
I've never heard of any Xiaomi phone being slowed down on purpose...
4. A friend of mine used iPhones for years. At the beginning of the year she switched from her iPhone SE to the Mi 9T and has not regretted the change for a second. She quickly found her way around with Android/Miui.
5. I highly recommend the Mi 9T. The best thing is to inform yourself a bit about rooting etc. and change to a custom rom as soon as possible. (Don't get me wrong, Miui is not that bad. But I like stock Android custom roms like Pixel Experience or LineageOS just much better With these roms you will also get Android 12 and 13 etc.) You won't have the possibility to root and flash a custom rom on the Nova 5T, because Huawei has locked the bootloader.
Pros in real life usage:
+excellent battery life (~8h screen on time)
+good cameras (I usually take my pictures with a DSLR... So I don't need the phones cameras very often, but they are quite good!)
+brilliant bezel-less Display
+many Custom Roms available
Cons:
-I'm not a big fan of Miui, but that's a matter of taste.

I recommend the MI9T
Great phone so far for me.
Pros:
1. Good display
2. Great performance for the price
3. Good battery life
4. No heating issues. (Im a heavy gamer )
5. Good camera
6. Sexy a*s design. (I get boner starring at it)
7. Fast finger print
Cons:
1. Camera night mode is awful ( u can install gcam)
2. I suggest u use a case cuz the phone is slippery
3. Facial recognition is pretty slow
*4. Thief attractor (phone too beautiful they can't resist getting their hands on it)
5. And then MIUI : dont get me wrong its awesome, I like the features and design . U won't find it hard with MIUI. But u get ads on the ROM and some slight bugs.
I unlocked my bootloader and installed xaoimi.eu ROM on it (miui v12 stable) which fixes almost everything wrong with the official one.
And if u stop receiving updates u can install custom ROMs. We have a great Dev team for this device.
Apart from that great phone.
P.s u can't unlock the bootloader of this Huawei phone

My usage is about 6 months.
1. It's good. Nothing weird with the screen.
2. Performance is still as good as when I first got this phone. Updated to MIUI 11, I got the drain once and a simple reboot fixed it. Never happened ever since. Normally I got 8hrs SOT daily with intense usage. Hours on gaming and media consumption.
3. Nah if u talking about official Android update, getting +1 year is the best thing you can expect. But tbh compared to other Android brands Xiaomi is quite generous in giving MIUI updates (UI updates).
Their 3 years old phone was still getting MIUI 11 so maybe this phone will also get at least 3+ years of MIUI update. But if you able to learn how to flash custom roms, it's possible to update your phone even 5 years later.
If you're from any iPhone lower than X, then you'll probably be ok with this phone. My brother use an iPhone and the only thing I wish this phone is as good as the iPhone is the vibration motor (if u ever use iPhone then you know it's that good) and video camera. Not that the video from this phone is ugly. It's very capable, just not as good as the iPhone. Also I recommend to install gcam. Game changer for photo quality.

And if u stop receiving updates u can install custom ROMs. We have a great Dev team for this device.
Apart from that great phone.
P.s u can't unlock the bootloader of this Huawei phone

But I like stock Android custom roms like Pixel Experience or LineageOS just much better With these roms you will also get Android 12 and 13 etc.) You won't have the possibility to root and flash a custom rom on the Nova 5T, because Huawei has locked the bootloader.
Pros in real life usage:
+excellent battery life (~8h screen on time)
+good cameras (I usually take my pictures with a DSLR... So I don't need the phones cameras very often, but they are quite good!)
+brilliant bezel-less Display
+many Custom Roms available
Cons:
-I'm not a big fan of Miui, but that's a matter of taste.

But there are even more posts/comments saying that push notifications do not work even with those tweaks. After flashing to custom rom, the push notifications started working perfectly without any tinkering.
This is a deal breaker as I need push notifications to work reliably (so I can't use MIUI). With custom roms however, you have to play cat and mouse game with banking apps that keep getting more strict with detecting phones that are not using stock firmware.

People say Xiaomi display is a lottery and also for the fingerprint they used another company’s sensor after the launch. ( First units get a nice FPC one that works great every time, then they silently introduce models with Goodix fingerprint readers instead which just aren't on par. )

Never heard of that and I have no idea how to detect in advance which display/fingerprint reader is used.
But I checked mine and it says goodix fingerprint, which is the cheaper one, and I'm satisfied with it...

Camera is average nowadays (I got a View 20 it's miles away for pictures quality)
I got it for 1 week and got to say I'm only satisfied with Lineage OS custom ROM. The MIUI ROM is so bloated and buggy I almost returned the phone after a few days ? I would not suggest this device to someone coming from iPhone. Better go for a OnePlus device.
But if you love flashing and tweaking phones, go for it ? the price/quality ratio is good.

I'd recommend buying Nova 5T. Davinci is a good phone, but you need to debloat it after buying, then you may face UI performance issue (my phone was laggy but after deleting App Vault app update it worked properly, overall it is a rare problem). This is still a really good phone, I really enjoy using it. Also, it has better cameras and makes better photos with GCam than Nova does (my friend bought Nova and we compared). But Huawei has a more powerful CPU and no bloatware, usable out of the box so to say. Also, you should be familiar with EMUI as it copies IOS in many aspects. So, if you don't take too many photos at night and not going to root your phone or flash any custom ROM, I think Nova 5T is better than MI 9T

Touchscreen works excellent (goodix_ts) but fingerprint (goodix_ts) is practically of no use, total sh...(MIUI 10,11)

screen jitter and ghosting have been fixed for a while now, I haven't experienced those problems in a very long time. Mi 9T is very good for basically everything if you're a normal or heavy user, if you are a serious gamer or modder I would recommend the pro. Display has no issues and I have overclocked it and done tons of risky stuff with my display. Your milage may vary so don't take me for granted.

Have to say, fingerprint sensor is not that fast. My only con.
About jumping to android. You definetly have to bee open mind and curious to get the most of it. Unlock bootloader, root and, most of all, debloat, is a must to have the best experience.
About Xiaomi. I reallly like miui, but this is a matter of taste. I had a redmi note 5 before and I see that it is steel being updated. So, about that, don't worry.

I was given this RN9 yesterday as a present (replacing a Pocophone F1 which broke). Got to say, I love this phone!
It's terrific! Took a bit of meddling to set it up the way I like (switching the stock launcher for CPL and stripping out a load of miui cruft) but the hardware is really lovely. Hoping to get a decent Gcam port, but the stock camera takes really nice photos, going by the handful of snaps I've taken today
NFC reader works perfectly (I'd read somewhere that it didn't actually have one, despite the specs claiming it does - mine, an international M2003J15SG, definitely does have NFC)
If anything, I prefer it to my old F1 - I haven't noticed any performance difference, seems lighter, several features the F1 missed (incl NFC), no notch
And incredible value - just under €180 for the 4/128gb version (or free if it's a birthday present ?)
Face unlock is as quick as the F1's ir unlock
Not seen a single ad in the UI either!
It's great ?
Charging doesn't seem the quickest, but it's an enormous battery to fill I guess

Saying that, I played PUBG last evening with game turbo on and the battery really suffered. Played it just now without game turbo - still very playable but much more easy on the charge level

RN9 sure is a bang for your buck type of phone which makes you appreciate the extra features it boasts for it's price. Just don't expect flagship type of performance. It's still servicable for your daily needs.

It's good so far , I just switched from my broken Mi Mix 3 . the phone make me rock with his perfect battery and nice performance for such as under 180$ phone. yeah it's lovely

Coming from the Mi A1 so the speed upgrade is very much noticeable. Camera big big upgrade. Screen lovely. However I am disappointed that the reseller sold as Global but it's not, hardware wise. Got the -SS version without NFC running global ROM. That while NFC was one of the main reasons I opted for Note9 not Redmi 9
Also the lack of location based unlocking is annoying.
That said I use the phone mainly for browsing, messaging etc so I'll learn to live with it
Recommended with the strong advice to double check with reseller which exact version you're getting...

Edit: The following problem seems to be remedied in MIUI 12.0.7 update which is great but still, it has taken more than half a year since release that this dreadful problem finally get addressed. Still appreciated that they care about such cheap device.
(This was on a 3/64 GB model)
Overall, I think this phone has a very good value for it's price (stellar battery life, nice display, good SoC, good haptic feedback, multiple nice features), but the only gripe (a big one) I have is the performance issues. For usual tasks, it's okay for a mid-end chip, but sometimes it would just freeze up for so long (more than a minute for sure) that I would have to force restart which I find very irritating. (imagine chatting with your friend and you swap apps to take a screenshot to send to your friend, only for your phone to freeze up waiting for you to restart or wait for more than a minute while your friend is confused as to why you are away for so long) (or just during an online game session and your phone just became unusable while your opponent just wrecks you who helplessly can't do anything)
I have observed that the freezing problem usually occurs when the remaining RAM is low which is almost every time I'm running multiple apps. I would have to try to manually close any apps that I don't need anymore to avoid this problem. This would also mean that playing games will be likely to cause a freeze (which is also really happening).
This problem has been happening since I brought the phone on August with MIUI 11, but MIUI 12 also doesn't fix the issue.
While I don't know if the same thing will happen if I were to go with a higher RAM model, I think this kind of problem should not be happening in the first place (even my old phone from 6 years ago, a Galaxy Note 4 that also has 3GB of RAM, that was broken still doesn't have this issue). If they knew that there would be a freezing problem with a lower RAM model, they shouldn't just have it on sell in the first place. Although I suspect that this is a problem with the software, not hardware which can be fixed in the future (I hope).
Overall, I felt somewhat disappointed

coming from lg v20 very old phone
very smooth i love the battery life i don't care about charging speed as long as the battery lasts for a long time
i recommend getting note 9s or note 9 pro if you can! it is very noticeable for gamers snapdragon is always better and 9 pro for better camera
if you want to root you have to wait for 7 days or 3 depends (sometimes 3 months rare lol) to only unlock phone
a lot of bloatware it is xiaomi after all so i suggest debloater or just sell your data
