Hi
I'm trying to unlock the bootloader of my Asus Zenfone Selfie ZD551KL Z00UD (2GB RAM variant) in order to flash custom recovery and ROM. I installed the bootloader unlock tool provided by Asus in their official website for my device and also specifically for Android marshmallow (which I'm running). But after unzipping and launching the app, it says "unknown error has occurred which may be a network issue. Please try again after some time" But after many attempts its still not budging. I tried to manually unlock it by going into fastboot mode via minimal adb and fastboot tool in PC and tried "fastboot flashing unlock" and "fastboot OEM unlock" both failed(FAILED (remote: unknown command)). The device still says its locked. I don't know what else to do. I recently solved its bootlooping issue by flashing the latest firmware from their official website via apply update from adb in the recovery.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Ialso experience this problem, i have 3gb variant of Z00ud. The official bootloader unlock tool is not working also my device is now softbrick because i install wrong xposed package.
HI,
I have been facing the Error as well in TF300TG, keeps giving Network Error, even though i tried via wifi as well as via 3g.
I wrote to Asus to help with the same as unlock tool is officially given by them, and this is what they wrote back to me

Same reply I too got. I just gave up on unlocking. You should too. Never buy asus again if you're into modding.

I bought ASUS Zenfone Selfie ZD551KL (ASUS_Z00UDB). I found my phone software was WW version but strange thing is the backpack of phone box was written it has installed CN version. However that time my phone was installed WW-1.13-user I guess. There was no OTA update options, so i never get any update notification.
After 1 days I saw ASUS release Android 6 for ASUS Zenfone Selfie ZD551KL. So i downloaded in try to installed it many was, after that my phone go into bootloop. Its been 15 days I still in stuck in same. Already tried most of methods to fix but no success. After that i tried to contact Regional customer support, when I asked about that issue, they asking for half of phone charge, also they can't ensure if it fix or not. If fix they asked that that amount if not then half of amount. So i back to home and searched again, I understand that my phone bootloder still locked. So i think for this reason all of my try going fail. Since ASUS has requirement to unlock bootloder is must be version 1.15 installed, this case my phone was 1.13. Also now I'm in stuck.
So Question is, is there anyway to unlock bootloader as I'm in stuck into bootlop?
I know I could ask this msg to ASUS support, since as they are so bushiness minded they wont reply my question.
Badly need help this case.
Thanks in Advance
Thanks God, I just fix it using 1.12 CN version, which file was not from official support. Now main problem is, How can I move to CN > WW. I need 1.15 WW version. Is there any way to move on WW?
Hello ...
I found today that i have z00udb and not z00ub.
I have no update option ... My wife phone ... She will kill me soon if didn't found a solution ...
I have 1.13 want to updat to 1.15 ...
I feel not fine if i do update to 6.0.1 ... I read too much problems after update ...
So please tell me what happened with you and if thede is any solution ...
Greeting .
Hi everybody
My Zenfone Selfie after a normal update (never modified) is in bootloop.
So I installed adb and fastboot and I flashed the twrp.
Then I tried in every way to flash a rom. I've tried both with official firmware and with various versions of cyanogenmod. Through fastboot and via adb sideload.
Even if seems to work, when I reboot I get the bootloop problem again.
As far as I can understand the problem it’s that I have the bootloader still locked. The official apk solution I guees it’s not applicable in my case. By fastboot oem unlock i get an error message (probably why i can not enable usb debug).
Do you know of other ways to unlock the bootloader or in general to flick my phone?
Thanks to everyone for the help
1st off I've been on XDA for many years and this Sub-forum confuses the hell out of me. Threads are cluttered with talk over all the variants of the G4 which confused me on what I could do with my device. That being said here is my issue...
I just got a XT1625 G4 and proceeded to try to get the adds removed. Reading this thread. It failed so it said to unlock the bootloader via getting a key from Moto which they let me do and I am unlocked according to the boot screen warning and fastboot info reporting "flashing_unlocked".
I then ran the script again but the device was unable to boot and went straight into recovery with it reporting at the bottom "WE HAVE DETECTED AN ATTEMPT TO FLASH UNAUTHORIZED SW ON YOUR DEVICE. CONTACT CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR ASSISTANCE." which I fixed by following this thread
Now reading more users say that this device can not have the bootloader unlocked (um mine is) and that amazon/moto have patched removing adds. Not sure what is true so I need some clarification.
Ideally I want to just flash a stock rom with no adds if possible and receive ota updates...can i?
OR remove the adds on the amz rom and get ots updates.
This phone is not for me so i dont want to have to fix it all the time. If this is not possible im going to send this amazon virus infected phone back....
I would honestly spring for the normal xt1625, you can even flash the nougat update on it since it's the xt1643 with a lower camera, no laser focus, and no fingerprint reader.
I got mine at best buy and did unlocks with no issues. It's definitely an Amazon thing. Like my old Moto g on Verizon I couldn't unlock.
Hello ALL,
I have a utterly abandon asus tablet known as the TX201LA (AKA the TX201LAF). It is the tablet verson of the Zenfone A450CG/A500CG, also similar to the Asus memopad me302c (the Trio is so much like the memopad that it can be flashed with memopad firmware but loses wifi, camera & doc support). These devices all share the same soc and many of the same exact components and device HALS. Roms could be ported relatively easily between these devices with minor changes for hardware.
The reason I am posted here is: Unlock_Tool_A400_v8.1.apk
My device being completely abandon by asus has no unlock tool. So I am on a noble quest to find an unlock tool made by asus that can run on my bootloader to unlock it. The I have tried other unlock tools from the v7 range and none have worked, however the v8.1 actually installs & runs on my device but comes up with the message "device model is not supported". So the unlocked is working against a list of devices burried to the apk which allows unlocking. I researched the tool and it is built for android 4.4 and I'm on 4.2. That variation should not mean much so its all down to the droidboot model & device list. I am on Droidboot 2.0. As much as I can tell the Droidboot 2.0 can be unlocked as it is what is matched to the A450CG model droidboot.
Can someone help me mod this unlock apk so I can unlock my tablet and install CWM built for the zenfone 4/5? PLEASE
If you can't help mod the apk, and you own a zenfone 4/5 A450CG/A500CG can you tell me which version of droidboot is your phone on now? and what version was on it before? Was it 2.0 around the time you have android 4.1-4.4?
I apprciate any input.

Unlocking via hacking/modifying the APK is highly unlikely, I've already researched this route for use on my V500KL
the APK sends a SSL packet (which SSL is not possible to crack) to the Asus servers (mdm.asus.com or mdm1.asus.com/)
this packet contains information about its phone, such as guid and serial number i believe.
I suspect asus has a device list on their end, even if you tricked the APK into sending the packet it would probably get a failure on their end. And the key token to unlock your device is probably hashed with a private key on their end before being sent back to the APK via another SSL connection.
(fun fact, the token, if its the same on all asus devices, is stored in the abootu partition when received, otherwise its mostly an empty part.)
It would be more likely to do a low-level firmware exploit to backdoor into an unlocked boot-loader that doesn't have full capability to fully verify its higher bootloader
(if an exploit exists for that there is, wip on that, for my device V500KL at least.)
sorry for the bad news
Device: Asis Zenfone Max1 Pro- ASUS_X00TD
On booting the device, I am getting the following error message " Your device is corrupted. It can't be trusted and may not work properly"( picture attached) " . The device boots if I keep on pressing the power button. From the research I did on this it seems, the software ( image ) was corrupted and I needed to install the software from the brand website. So I downloaded the image file and installed it following the recommended procedure. However the error is still persisting.
Is this error only due to a software problem or it can be a hardware related problem as well? If it is a software related problem only, how do I resolve the problem?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Problem becomes more problematic
Am bumping this up as this problem is becoming an unmitigated disaster.
Contacted ASUS customer care with the problem as detailed in OP.
Their support rep gave a solution which involved going back to a previous version of the image. Reason he gave was that the image I had flashed after d/loading from their website was a beta version and not stable.
Followed the process.
End result ? Now the device is asking for a password which feature ( password security ) I did not activate at all.
I will appreciate if someone can help me fix this mess.
TIA

ASUS OTA updates corrupting device software & hardware both
*****Problem Solved*****
The problem not just with the software but also the hardware was caused by ASUS OTA updates.
Problem #1
The device got corrupted. Whether it was corrupted or whether it was just an erroneous error message is a matter of enquiry/research. Neither am I interested nor do I have the time to waste any further on this disaster.
Problem #2
The mic stopped working. This was remedied solely by rolling back to a prior version as advised by the customer care rep of ASUS.
Long story short which is still quite long ( apologies for being long winded )
After applying firmware rollback as advised by ASUS call center rep, the device got stuck at asking for a PIN/Password.
Given my illiteracy of technical issues, I did not have the foresight to do a simple factory data reset and move on.
So, I wrote to ASUS customer care. The incompetent people at ASUS customer care asked me to go to a different version of the firmware. That did not solve the problem. They then responded that I have to get a PAID service done to remedy the problems which would include service charges both for software and hardware issues SEPARATELY.
I gave up in disgust and decided I would purchase a new handset.
As luck would have it, Youtube referred me to a video on the issue.
Following the process shown in the video I was able to remedy the device corrupted error message.
Now I inserted a SIM card in the phone to see if it was working. It was still not working properly.
Then I googled for mic related issues. I came across links which suggested that mic functionality in these devices had been messed up by OTA updates.
So, I decided to go back to the firmware dowgrade.
I installed the downgrade firmware.
I did a factory data reset.
I activated the device.
The device is now functional.
Learnings from this disaster:
ASUS personnel are either grossly incompetent
OR
the company i.e. ASUS is running it's business in an unethical way.
Resources used to solve the problem:
Firmware applied to get the device functional

Can you kindly amend the subject of the thread to " ASUS OTA updates corrupting device software & hardware both". Thanks for your help.
I have this phone (ASUS_A009 ZenFone 5 V500KL Live) and I've yet to find a reliable resource to unlock the bootloader. I sure rooting the phone won't be a problem but the bootloader has been the time consumer today. Am I just missing something here. I've done every method I ran across on XDA pertaining to ZenFone. I am about to attempt to flash firmware with an image for the only other phone similar to this one (except the VZW part). I say that because when you look up "ASUS_A009 specs" in Google you'll get the V520KL but upne further investigation I found otherwise. There is talk about the ENG Firmware Allowing for OEM unlock through fastboot. I grabbing at air here.
