Is It worth switching from the pure to the 6p?

I am thinking about switching to the 6p. 808 has been a letdown for me and I am worried about future updates because of lenovo.

Of course it is the worth, 6p is a much better phone than mxp but it costs more (obviously) and the thing that i dont like about it is the glass camera frame (so ugly)

Personally, I wouldn't switch to a nexus. Its a great phone, sure, but I like having an SD card slot. That and the price of the 6p.
If that doesn't sway your decision, I'd say go for it otherwise.

I just made the switch about 3 weeks ago. For me it was especially worth it since I could sell my X for the same purchase price of a refurb 6p. But Even if there were a price difference, it's a worthwhile upgrade for me. The only thing to keep in mind is Google is probably going to pump out a new nexus phone or two this fall hopefully with Snapdragon 820's onboard. THe 820 is leaps and bounds above the 810 in the 6p and the 808 in the X and I'm looking forward to my next phone having one. It really comes down to your willingness to wait with an admittedly great Moto X for the new Nexus or jump up to a fantastic experience from the current offering.
Pure nexus on 6p vs MotoX is a much smoother experience in my opinion having run them side by side for a few days.

I've ditched 6p for MXPE for a couple of reasons.
The main reason for this was this awful AMOLED screen. It has a lot of issues and even if you are lucky enough and won't get any pink spots or greenish tones to your screen, you'll still get awful ghosting of dark objects with black backgrounds and small letters will fall apart while scrolling. This was driving me nuts and just after a week of using this crappy screen I've sold 6p and bought MXPE. Oh, and also, just in a week, there was a lot of noticeable burn-ins around navbar and status bar. I just don't want to know, what will happen to this screen in a year.
So, here are my personal reasons to choose 6p over MXPE:
1) Amazing camera. MXPE has awful camera, it is usable only in perfect conditions and despite having 21 mpx it just doesn't deliver such great pictures, as 6p does.
2) Performance. Even though I've thought 6p was a little slower then Nexus 5, MXPE is really disappointing. Snapdragon 808 can't cope with QHD screen. Stutters all over the place, scroll is nowhere as smooth as it was back in 2014 with Nexus 5 and Oneplus One.
3) Community. After a couple of years with Nexuses, I can't understand, why there are so few people trying to develop something for this phone. With open-sourced kernel, opened bootloader, such low price and near-stock official firmware I thought MXPE would gather a lot of developers. But still, after more than half a year after release, there is still no fully-functional Cyanogenmod ROM, for instance.
4) Technologies. Type C interface and Nexus Imprint are nice, but they are not necessary.
But, as well, I can mention, why MXPE is better, than 6p:
1) Design. This is not a huge deal, for me both of these phones look and feel great. I just preferred a little more roundness in Motorola, as well as textured back cover. It's nicer and a lot more grippier, than aluminum in 6p.
2) Screen. As mentioned above, this was a deal-breaker for me. IPS is a lot better technology, than AMOLED. IMHO, of course. But never again, AMOLED just won't work for me unless engineers figure out, how to make every single pixel (LED) operate at 60+ Hz frequency for smooth transitions.
3) Speakers. Even though 6p also has front-facing speakers, Motorola's speakers are way nicer. They sound amazing.
4) Build quality. 6p feels a bit tender and weak. It feels like it can be broken in half easily. Motorola is built to last, it feels sturdy. I am pretty sure it will survive a couple of drops. Even in water, according to IP52 resistance. Of course this certificate means that it'll survive a rain, but I am pretty sure it can survive a couple of seconds in water in case of accident.

Returning the S8+ & back to Pixel XL, Pros and cons if anybody is interested

Well I'm returning s8 plus. It just can't beat out pixel overall. Pros and cons of s8 plus for anybody interested.
Pros
Screen- is bright and very big
Battery- best battery I've ever used to date
Sdcard- also best phone with sd slot I've used to date, loads 10,000 plus photos in seconds
Camera- excels in low light, regular light it can't touch pixel
Web pages- loading and scrolling is probably fastest I've ever seen on mobile device
Samsung pay- still love Samsung pay over Android pay
No bezels- looks amazing and sleek
Samsung ui- I've always loved it and I still like it. Has countless options that are unreal but still not as fast as pure Android but that's to be expected
Edge screen- probably my favorite feature. Absolutely love night clock
Cons
Screen- is weird ratio and colors look over saturated except on basic mode then everything else looks washed out. Some apps don't like no bezels. Keyboard is weird and reply tabs in notification bar are very tiny and odd
Camera- normal light pixel has it beat, too saturated and unrealistic
Fingerprint sensor location- yes you get used to it but back on pixel and it is still way easier
Screen protector/case- good luck getting a glass screen protector to stick and a case to match without intruding on each other
No bezels- I found it hard to reach to bottom of phone for home button or anything on nav bar really
Bixby/buttons- bixby needs no statement it is just rubbish (and bixby button) and the other buttons are spread out. I like how pixel has volume and power on same side and textured power button

Looks like your Pros outweigh your Cons, although I do agree with your statement on the fingerprint scanner.
[RANT]Whatever possessed Samsung to place it where it is, is beyond me, for me the placement has rendered it pretty much well useless (Yes, in time you will get used to it; I could also get used to driving my car from the back seat, but bad design is bad design). Thankfully there are other options to secure your phone (facial recognition is by far my favourite and quickest; Even if it isn't as secure...)
However, I have always detested Touchwiz, even with the constant improvements it doesn't compare to some of the top launchers out there.[/RANT]

Yes the fingerprint is weird. I honestly think they quit R&Ding the device and just threw on back to beat iphone out and get some sales. Hopefully they take their time with the Note 8 and it is perfection. I would rather have my note 7 back over the s8 plus at this point.

Fair call on the oversaturation, I think I have just gotten used to it (almost all of my devices are Samsung, I'm constantly fiddling with our TV picture settings ). Although I'd probably suggest getting used to the new aspect ratio, I imagine it will make an appearance on the Note 8 and become the norm, considering Samsung now has a penchant for using large phones with one hand.

Default screen mode is Adaptive - this over saturates the screen colours. Use Amoled Photo. This is calibrated to Adobe RGB standard.
No bezel - this is a plus for me, and most people. This is the way smartphones are going. Less bezel = better phone. More for aesthetics than anything.
Screen protector/case - I never use them. They ruin the look and feel of the phone.
Camera - still the best on the market in my opinion. Beats anything else out there.

Yeah I don't like the fake look though. If I take a photo I want it to be realistic. I took some photos and then look at photo and object and was like man it looks way off. The note 8 better have a normal screen ratio!

I can't stand the over saturation. Looks bad unless you drop to basic. Pixel camera is best imo ?

I also went back to my trusty Pixel XL. It is the first time I have ever voluntarily gone back to a device. The Pixel's performance can't be even distantly touched by the S8+. The optimization is worth its weight in gold alone. The S8+ is a beautiful and all around more polished piece of hardware that is severely hampered by what might be a disparity in GPU requirements v. Infinity display requirements and software that simply makes horrid use of the 2017 spec bump underlying it. I think Samsung went a bit too ambitious this time and left a few too many rough edges.

I read that the only reason they threw the sensor in the back was because they ran out of time. They wanted it in the screen but didn't have enough time time for production.

I also read somewhere that the above sensor placement may hold the CrApple iSh#t 8 from being delivered as per their normal schedule, if it is true at least CrApple have the sense to ensure deadlines don't affect the final product. (please excuse my uncharacteristic optimism regarding CrApple products)
For the fanboys/fence sitters - Yes Apple has it's applications, yes some people prefer simple... this is an Android forum. As I have said in the past iPhones are for people that want a smartphone but aren't smart enough to use them. ~ from an open platform fanboy.

I too forgot this useless piece of redundant garbage (sort of points out how irrelevant Bixby is in a world of Google Now), although the button remapped to be a "back" button is handy.
Hopefully Samsung will pull their collective heads out of each other's butts and allow the button to be remapped to whatever the consumer wishes without a 3rd party app, instead of the usual "this is how you will use the device you payed for and rightfully own" attitude of large corporations.

They wanted it to be on the same spot as the home button under the screen, but Synaptics couldn't get it working good enough in time.

I'm also going to return mine. I'm kind of disappointed that the audio quality is subpar IMHO. Comparing it with my Nexus 6P, the sound level is lower than the 6P and honestly the 6P sounds more crisp. If I'm paying close to a grand for a device- S8+ with paid bundle, I would wish the manufacturer doesn't skimp on features like Samsung did with this phone. The mono speaker audio and then the issue with the tint... I tried adjusting in settings but there's still a slight red hue which is annoying to say the least. The fingerprint scanner... But I can get used to that. The Bixby button being disabled to use with other applications. It's just too many compromises for a device like this. Thinking I'll wait for the Note 8 or the next Pixel. Damn, I had such high hopes and really wanted to like this phone, but I can't justify spending $950 on something I'm not fully satisfied with.

Well pointed out. One of the major gripes I think is the sound quality. I have tested a bunch of different HiFi headphones on my S8+ but it's nowhere close to the previous Mate 9 audio quality: to low the volume, mushy details in medium tonality, overall "not there". I am not sure where Pixel stands from the sound quality perspective but I would be eager to test it beforehand.

Once again shows Samsung is becoming more like Apple. I got money on the s9 having it under screen on front pulling more people in to buy it instead of waiting a few more months and perfecting the s8!

There were two key features that kept me from getting the pixel. Wireless charging and dust and water resistant. In my line of work I need That! If pixel 2 has those, I'm sold.

Anyone disappointed about the new Mix 2?

Well, the (successor?) to the Mix has finally launched and I'm quite disappointed about what it turned out to be.
When the Mix was launched, it was one of a kind and a head-turner with almost everything you could ask for in a smartphone (minus the camera of course). But now, the Mix 2 only seems to be an incremental update with many corners cut.
1. The chin is just 12%smaller and looks much larger than those teasers Xiaomi released from time to time.
2. The screen resolution or type hasn't changed. Just slightly modified for the 18:9 aspect ratio. (2160x1080 vs 2040x1080). Also with the new aspect ratio, the overall screen real-estate has shrunk.
Would have appreciated a switch to AMOLED and a higher resolution to call it an upgrade.
3. Of course the chipset has been updated to the latest but I was never too excited about the Snapdragon 835 considering the 821 is no slouch.
4. The camera was a much needed upgrade and I appreciate that they've managed to squeeze in the Sony IMX386. Then again, this isn't a flagship camera compared to the competition but obviously better than that of the current Mix. So it's very much welcome but not a defining feature. Talking about the front camera, I guess Xiaomi has once again put a mediocre POS in there judging by the fact they didn't make a fuss about it.
5. To squeeze in the camera + OIS and the 18:9 aspect ratio, they've shredded 1000mah from the battery which is very disappointing. I guess I am most disappointed about this aspect.
6. No 3.5mm jack. - I wouldn't have been disappointed by the lack of 3.5mm if the rest of the specsheet were damn impressive and on par with other flagships. But it looks like Xiaomi just wanted to be more like Apple here. Removed the jack for no reason. I see myself using the headphone jack from time to time and I believe everyone does at times. Also, I doubt the Mix 2's audio via the provided USB-C adapter can match the Original Mix's inbuilt powerful headphone amp unless you invest in an external DAC.
When the Mi Mix was launched, it was above every other flagship of the time, except maybe the camera. It gave the Galaxy S7 Edge a run for it's money. It was bold and beautiful.
I gladly paid more than a Galaxy S7 Edge to get this and didn't regret.
But looking at the Mix 2, I don't know whether it stands a chance against the Galaxy S8, especially considering prices of the S8/S8+ has dropped after the launch of the Note 8. Slim bezels are not a defining feature anymore as almost everyone has caught up and so, I feel that the Mix 2 doesn't have anything which will make it stand out against the competition.
I don't see it as a worthy upgrade to the original Mix. It is just how the Galaxy Note 2 was to the Original Galaxy Note with slight spec bump and nothing exciting if anyone remembers.
To conclude, I don't see how this would compel any existing users to upgrade. Morover I don't see the specsheet motivating any new buyers to choose this over a similarly priced S8+.
For those who are still considering getting a Mix, my opinion would be to get the Original one while it is still available for a discount as Xiaomi usually pulls the device from the market soon after the successor is out, most likely because they can't afford to produce and sell the previous gen device at a very low price. For those actually considering spending on a Mix 2, the S8/S8+ is now similarly priced (check ebay) in most markets and offer better value for your money.

Agree with pretty much everything you said but the tiny screen of the new model kills it for me. I find the note 8 tiny after using the Mix for so long. I wish they made a Mix 2+ with a 6.4" display, I would so pay for that.

Totally agreed. It was hardly an upgrade by any means. I was honestly more impressed with Xiaomi's MI Note Pro than the Mix 2, Lol. That's the problem with scaling to fast though. The Mix was such a market turner when it came out, if you're a company with certain stylistic choices, it's hard to know how to follow-up.

This is what frustrates me with phone releases, after a good one step forward a company makes two steps back with the next.
Losing the headphone jack and dropping so much battery capacity, 25%....
I know I will never get exactly everything from a phone, there will always be compromise and I am OK with that but stop removing the great features that the previous phone had, the new is supposed to be better than the old!
They changed the aspect ratio. OK, I guess I can live with that. They reduced the screen size. OK, that's starting to hurt but I guess I can live with that too.
They removed the headphone jack. OK, I guess I live with that too but stop already!
No, then they cripple the battery and the icing on the cake, the camera bump protrudes more than on the old phone!
I like to think I'm a reasonable guy. OK, I get it, the new camera is larger. OIS may need more space too. Well, how about you make the phone thicker so that the camera is completely flush with the body and use that extra space for a bigger battery and maybe to bring the headphone jack back?
They reduced the bottom bezel by 12%, they should have worked on using that bezel to put capacitive buttons on it instead of the on screen buttons.
Whatever sales they do achieve, I am convinced that a phone with a better battery, a camera flush with body and a capacitive bottom bezel would sell better...

It was supposed to have the 836 before it was announced that there wouldn't even be an 836, which at least would have given it an edge performance-wise and extended its life.
With the big drop in battery, I don't think it would have been wise to go UHD anyway. Also, being HD, we get better performance in general (particularly in games) since it doesn't have to drive all those extra pixels. AMOLED would have been nice though.
The lack of the headphone jack is a big loss for some, especially considering the Mix had one of the best DACs out there. I don't use headphones that much but I'd still miss it if it was gone.
If they'd just taken the Mix and dropped in an 835 and a better camera I'd probably have upgraded.

Agree with all the points you've made and while it's a disappointment, I'm glad that my almost 1 year old mi mix has features I can appreciate over it's successor.
The bezels look more impressive on the first mix and I can't believe they dropped the battery capacity by that much and removed the headphone jack !

If this is their idea of a better phone, then sadly I see my next phone being the Note 9.
For now I'm sticking with the Mix 1.
It's a notable drop in screen size from the Mix 1.
It's like 15% smaller (roughly 15.64 vs 16.93 sq inches).
Smaller than the galaxy note 8, although it's 'shorter'.
It's nice to see them fixing the major issues from the Mix1 (camera, speaker).
Hopefully it's more drop proof now, too.
But it's no longer the biggest screen/battery for a pocketable phone, and that's a major loss,
So now you ask - what's the point? It it really THAT much better looking than other phones?

I was a VERY early adopter of the Galaxy note 1, and I can assure you - the galaxy note 2 was significantly better than the galaxy note 1 and I can't recall a single negative. The note 1 was definitely a 'market test device' as there were NO large screen phones at the time. It was clunky as hell, while the note 2 was a wonderful phone
One arguable downside was the screen aspect ratio 'dropped' from 16:10 to 16:9, but they made the screen size bigger (5.3 to 5.5) to compensate and the overall screen size stayed the same..
I would have been nice for xiaomi to release a 'full size' 6.4 and the current 'smaller' version for people who REALLY want one handed use or whatever. I guess they don't have enough 'ceramic' capacity to do that. Really quite a shame. I imagine the screen to bezel ratio would be even higher on a larger phone.

I'm also disappointed of Xiaomi I was hoping for a smaller chin instead we've got a smaller phone without head phone jack, that's messed up yo, I'm sticking with my mix till next year when they come up with a worthy phone to upgrade to. No head phone jack? now they are copying apple on that, damn you Xiaomi,

I'm bound to get the better products developed by phone manufacturers it seems ... Oneplus One was an amazing phone and already is a legend, Mi Mix a stunning concept phone that set new grounds in the industry.
I'm glad I made the right choice 2 months ago and went for the 1st gen, instead of waiting for the next one and spend more cash for little to no improvements in what's definitely more crucial to me, i.e. screen size and battery than a better camera. Next gen SoC won't make much of a difference in daily use, since the SD821 is already a great performer. Bezels seem even larger than the 1st gen

I got the Mi MIX in pre order so roughly 10 monts ago. Time files and I still feel like I would buy it a month ago.
The new mix did not bring in anything appealing to me... Samaller screen and no amoled... Smaller battery... the only two thing I like about it more than v1 is the metal frame and OIS..
No I will not buy it.

Seems like the top bezel is slightly larger on the new MIX. Cost of jamming a speaker in there I guess. I'm very content with the sound on the original anyway.

Like the small rounded screen corners on the first. MI MIX 2 seems to have the same wide corners as the rest of the 2017 smartphone lineup.
Was never going to upgrade now anyway. Waiting for next 8XX chip + way....waaay to happy with my MIX.
Only compromise I would be ok with on the MIX 2 is the camera hump. OIS is sweet.

I have mix and mix 2 is absolutely terrible because it doesn't look like unique phone anymore. I got tired of charging my phone every evening, so a +4000 Mah battery was a nobrainer for me to get mix, now its ughhh.

Yes, i'm very disappointed...
was hoping that could have been a decent replacement for Note 4 with promised 6.4 oled screen and 4K battery, but....
with IPS, without 3.5 jack, smaller 6.0 screen and without microsd card slot this phone is not even an option. Very sad.
Also the bezels look huge in comparison with the renders distributed by xiaomi to create hype, which has left a very disappointing feeling that you were promised one thing and offered a very different one...
at the end of the day, the phone did not meet all the hype created, and is a flop (imho)

all im gonna say is.... ill definitely stick to my original mi mix.

Because some people (maybe alot) dont accep the 6.44' size. Their cant use, cant handle it. Then Xiaomi release Mix 2 to help their product come to more people and not to kill the Mix 1, smaller screen size make Mix 1 still alive.
But...the point is...Xiaomi next step...equal to turn back into their fan. I cant accept that. I want bigger screen..!! 6.44'..!! 7..!! But not... If the screent cant bigger.? I want better camera. Yes, they update it. But not enough. I dont care about snap 835. I care about 3400Mah battery. And yes...Mix still alive. Because I will stay with my Mix. My next phone is Note 8. It seems Xiaomi used the Mix 1 has a test prototype to see if the technology was feasible and if there was a demand for the bezel-less concept. Since then all the big manufacturers jumped on board too and so the Mix 2 appears to be Xiaomi's attempt to compete with a more mainstream design. This is clear from the smaller width and the use of the more traditional speaker earpiece. Unfortunately this means it no longer stands out or looks futuristic. I still love my Mix 1 but I still like to try the new models so am now on the fence whether to get the Mix 2 or the Essential. The all-ceramic limited edition is tempting as I am a sucker for build quality and advanced materials.

#1: the screen size is a matter of personal preference; you can't please everyone.
6" might be the sweet spot for me in such a package.
#2: I like the fact that Xiaomi introduced another colour & diversified the choice of materials.
It's much harder to scratch a frame, however, most Mi MIX fails were devices which fell on a corner & cracked.
This shouldn't be an issue now with the aluminum frame. Ceramic is still there where it matters - the back.
#3: the camera was an epic fail on the original MIX, & an update to the IMX386 is welcome.
#4: epic fail on the form factor: a slim phone might be easier to hold, but as difficult to handle in 1 hand mode - example: reaching the top parts of the phone.
In addition, there is little to no content in 18:9, thus leading to letterboxing & waste of screen realestate.
#5: the drop in battery capacity to 3500mAh is a huge step back.

I've used my phone for about a week now, and I just love it. The phone is great, quality, screen color, brightness, comfortable in the hand, great photo quality, nice sound. My only BUT is MIUI, but well, for the moment I use NOVA.

I have been using this phone for a month now but I have noticed a left-right wobble in the screen. Is that normal or I need to get it checked from xiaomi. The wobble just ruins the premium overall experience with the phone.

I think that's normal, I've seen it reported on a couple of the video reviews. That's the price you pay for a slider mechanism and no notch. A small price, imo.

After the first 12 hours, I'm very ambivalent about this phone. I absolutely love the display, it gorgeous to look at, very nearly bezel-less, and much sharper than my previous Samsung AMOLED (albeit an old one). What I don't like is the weight and the slippery surfaces. It's a bit better with the cover on, but what's the point of a flashy ceramic surface if it's only usable with a case over it? I realize this is a general problem with pretty much every high-end phone, not just this one, and I suspect that people who don't like plastic are the same ones who worry about themes.

I think it's good. Coming from a Mix 2, it's a refined version of the concept working pretty well.
Mine has also this left-right wobble, it's not wobbly.. you can push it to the side a little, if you push it but it makes a litte.

Been using mine for a few days now, and I'm getting used to the increased size. Using gestures helps a lot with general ease-of-use, particularly with one-handed operation. I can't see any wobble issues with mine, but the sliding mechanism is quite stiff compared to what I've seen in the videos, so maybe I got one that's a bit tighter. The speed of the thing is something to behold, booting takes a few seconds, and even running a TWRP backup is super-fast at a couple of minutes at most.

She's a hefty beast of a phone. I often use my phone to read in bed and having an oled display should be nicer for my eyes but even at the lowest brightness it is still fairly bright. The phone is quite heavy. I notice a tad wobble without a case if I am pushing the top right corner. I do not use the front facing camera. Not at all. MIUI is smooth but it has numerous bugs some of which make me frustrated. The main bug is that gboard will not allow me to use a personal dictionary. Other users on MIUI phones suffer the same bug. Still unresolved (there is a bug-ticket) Another bug includes the inability to keep Edge Gestures open. The gestures baked in are nice but being primarily bottom edge gestures it makes you(read me) hold the phone much lower and exacerbates the weight of the device.
Battery performance is excellent. The assistant button is awesome. You can map it. I find myself using google assistant way more because of it.
I will be unlocking and adding a custom ROM as those two bugs make my everyday use of the device harder than it should be. Especially the keyboard. It is incredibly frustrating when I need to type names and places in Japanese because of it.
I came from the mi mix 2 (gifted to my wife) and I also use the Redmi 4x. Both solid phones thanks to the community of developers. Xioami isn't available in my country so if something breaks I am SOL. However, I feel Xioami products are worth the risk.
tl/dr: Solid phone. Heavy. Fast. MIUI is good. But depending on the usuage bugs can be frustrating.

I felt the same way about using the cover, but I purchased a transparent protective film for the back and the screen, and I took away the slippery issue and allowed the phone to look like it had nothing on. It looks gorgeous!

Can you post a link to what you used? I'm now using the phone without the cover, since it makes a surprising difference when trying to wedge it into the pocket of my workout shorts, but I'm scared to death of dropping it every time it's in my hand.

Thanks, I may well give that a try. I highly doubt the ceramic will scratch, it's harder than the glass on the front, but I definitely need more grip. Once it's on, is there any way to get it off easily?

Yes, it's a protective film, it isn't that hard to remove.

is there a SUPER NIGHT SCENE MODE? or was that the Night Scene Mode

I do, now I have vanilla Android on it! The hardware is outstanding, the software it ships with I found difficult to use. Now I no longer have MIUI on it, it's by far the best phone I've ever owned. It performs like a flagship, but at nearly half the price of most of its competitors, and it's visually gorgeous. I can't comment on the headphone adapter since I don't use cables other than for fastboot operations.

Great! I'm likely to go for a custom ROM / not MUIU myself so it's great to hear the hardware is top notch.
I think this is my next phone. Still a bit curious about how custom ROMs deal with the excellent camera and the slider, but that's not necessarily an immediate concern.
Happy to see it get some love! I might get the jade one, and put the EU ROM on it

Can you better describe this "wobble"? I don't think I understand what you are referring to. I'm just curious. I have the phone since two weeks ago and don't see anything weird in the screen.

If you haven't noticed it, just forget about it. There's nothing wrong with my screen either. The hardware is rock solid, the software leaves a lot to be desired, imo.

Mi MIX 3 is the best android phone I have had so far and I went through all versions of Samsung Galaxy and Google. I am using my global version with stock launcher on T-mobile LTE with no connection issues.
1. Display is just perfect, bright and beautiful with no ugly front camera cutouts.
2. Sliding the phone by default opens the selfie camera, but customizable to any other app.
3. There is a separate button on the side of the phone (like Bixby), which is completely customizable as well.
4. I love how fast the finger print scanner works in this phone. Overall phone operation speed and app launching/operation is faster than my Google Pixel 2 XL and Galaxy note 9.
5. Always on display (AOD) works as expected most of the time (it tends to move up on the screen and turns off in low light conditions).
6. There is a small message indicator light which flashes white light.
7. There is a Edge Glow (similar to Samsung Galaxy phones) feature which is supposed to only work when you receive notifications and AOD is off. I noticed the glow on occasion with AOD on and now I am using a android app "Always On Edge - Edge Lighting" to further customize and use the feature.
8. The phone ships with a plastic phone case/10W wireless charger base/Type C-3.5 mm adapter cable.
9. Camera in this phone is one of the best in the business (especially in low light).
10. Battery appears to be on the smaller side but I have had no issues with moderate use (over 60% left from morning to bed time).
11. Ceramic back is beautiful but a fingerprint magnet ; I am still using the phone without a case, which makes it a bit slippery; I placed a back protector clear film which did not help with the fingerprints but a bit easy to hold.
12. Phone is ~10 grams heavy compared to the Samsung Galaxy note, but it has a great balance and well made feel. You will notice it in the front shirt pocket for few days after the initial use (especially with a case).
13. There is a small movement of the screen in the top left corner (when you tap), due to the slider mechanism, which is barely noticeable.
14. MIUI launcher/ software is very smooth and I never felt the need to root the phone and install vanilla android version. I just changed the defaults for the browser/text apps to google. There is a drop down menu similar to any android with a screenshot toggle.
15. MIUI gives you only two sound options Regular (audible ring)/Silent. Silent mode can be programmed to vibrate; I wish Xiaomi makes it simple with sound/vibrate/silent modes with next SW update. There is a Do not disturb (DND) mode which can be programmed.
16. The stock "vibration intensity" is very low compared to Samsung or Google phones. It is easy to miss a notification or call when the phone is inside the pocket especially with a case. I don't know if any apps can let you change the vibration intensity without rooting.
17. So far, I love everything about the phone which is made better than any other android at any cost. If I drop the phone and break the display, I may not easily find a replacement screen in the local store. For ~$550 phone cost compared to ~$900 I spent on Samsung/Google phones, I am taking that risk.

Hi as the devices are out in the German speaking countries, some initial comments from my side. I am coming from different devices including Fold 1, N20U and the one with the i, just as a background. My main daily driver in the last 12 months was the Fold 1 which I absolutely loved, that's why I ordered the Fold 2 on the first day.
- Overall a real 2.0 version of a 1.0 product I loved. A lot of improvements
- The small screen is a lot better, I was using the small Fold 1 screen quite often and liked also typing on it, as I swype heavily, and the short distances make it really quick. That advantadge is still there, but smaller, on the other side typing of words which you can't swype like passwords is easier now due to the additional screen real estate.
- The quality of the small screen has significantly improved from my point of view in terms of brightness and clarity
- I hated the small screen for only being able to arrange three apps in the permanent row at the bottom, and it is 5 now! Big improvement
- Audio is incredible, I also had the Mi10 which was the king in that category from my point of view, Fold2 equal or better. Incredible loud. Don't forget to turn Atmos on.
- I treated the Fold 1 very carefully for a couple of weeks, until I found out that nothing happens - actually my 1 year old Fold 1 is in best condition although handled like any other phone. I am in the same phase now with the Fold 2 - I am worried
- I have the Aramid standing cover and I don't like it. It looks cheap and covers only a part of the device, additionally it is more instable on a desk than without it. I am planning to switch to the leather cover
- Training the face recognition is so incredibly fast (1-2 seconds) that I think this cannot be save....
- You have to switch the large display to tablet mode in order to get tabs in the browser or multi window in outlook, this setting is only visible if you have the display open. Took me time to find it. Only then the large inner display makes real sense
- I am a heavy user of the small display and mainly use the large one for media consumption, which results in something like 60/40 usage small/big. With this setup, the battery seems to be fantastic, although to early to provide any detail. The German magazine CHIP made exactly that test and came to incredible runtime with the small display.
- The haptic of the whole thing made a big step forward compared to fold 1, especially the hinge. Real great feeling.
- Not really a dealbreaker, but strange: The flashlight is the weakest I had on a phone for years
- I am everything but an expert for smartphone cameras, more the point and shoot average user. Photo quality seems great to me, but look for better experts to talk about that. The usability is great, fast and responsive
- Generally, same comment applies to N20U and S20U, I think the OneUI made big steps forward in the last two years. Especially looking at the whole eco system with watch and earbuds, the whole user experience is now really great and close to an other phone (can' remember the name, someting with an i as far as I remember)
This are my initial impressions. I am happy with my purchase up to now.

Digging the Samsung Notes app on the big screen. Obviously doesn't support S-Pen but finger writing works surprisingly well.

So after 5 days, thoughts...
First of all, the delivery was surprisingly on time, (never bought directly from Samsung Germany before) so that was a good start with the experience.
I wasn't overly impressed with the unboxing though. But still, unwrapping the warnings of was a good feeling. Then closing the device for the first time was a "wooow" moment. Coming from the Fold, that hinge feels so sturdy and worthy. I guess I played around, opened , closed the device for a minute or 2 before booting up the device.
It's screen protector in and outside are perfectly fine for the moment. The inside feels a bit "rubbery" and cheapish if I may say so, but it does the job fine.
The big screen is bright enough and clear enough for the everyday use. Regarding the flex mode, I do not give much about it. It's not mature enough yet to use it fully IMHO.
The outer screen, geez I use it a lot. I already used it quit often on the original Fold, but this upgrade is an enlightening. One hand usage, swiping my messages away. A quick look at social media is lovely, reading quickly any article is OK.
The build in general is sturdy, mature and a joy. I have the Mystic Black version. No need to tell anyone it's a fingerprint magnet. It's slippery as well.
And that's what annoys me a bit. I don't care they didn't put any extras in it this time. I mean, you just spend 2000 euro/dollar on a device. Then 60 Euro shouldn't be that big of a problem either. But they should've had it available in shops, online etc to get a case, cause you want to protect it, and this Mystic Black version is slippery as an eel.
I need a case or skin for this version.
But the conclusion is, samsung nailed it, to give us a 2000 euro experience, that feels like a 2000 euro device.
Did I need they phone? No, do I wanted the phone? Yes. But can I go back to a "normal" phone after 2 generations of foldable phones? Probably, but difficult it'll be...

After heavily utilizing my Mystic Black Fold 2 for a weekend, here are some of my thoughts below. I'll try not to repeat common things that I've read here or seen in reviews, but overall, I'm loving this device and having a pocketable large screen!
- The narrower front screen is surprisingly easy to type on, even without swiping. I have nubs for thumbs and I was shocked that I wasn't producing typos left and right.
- The visibility outside for both screens is pretty good, though the inside screen suffers from high reflectivity when outside in the sun. It doesn't affect you as much if you're looking straight on and slightly closing the hinge to angle the display helps.
- This device is so slippery it continually falls out of my pocket when I get in my car or sit at an angle. Where are you Fold 2 cases?! So far no damage but there have been a couple close calls.
- I have tried to be extra careful with this device but the inside screen protector is scratched up. I only notice it at certain angles under bright light but it makes me sad. I'm tempted to remove the inside screen protector but I'm not sure the ultra thin glass would hold up any better.
- The power button is a bit awkwardly placed for my hands and I found that I was constantly swiping up/down on it by accident which opened/closed the notification shade so I turned off that gesture.
- Speaking of that power button, it's tough to feel the button when attempting to scan my fingerprint but that could be due to me being used to face unlock with my iPhone 11 Pro and Pixel 4XL. I'm sure this will become more natural over time and the fingerprint scanner is mighty quick.
- I haven't found many widgets I like as they're not yet optimized for the screens (this includes some of the Samsung apps which surprised me). Many take up a lot of room on my homepages but then have small/compressed text/images. Hope this improves over time.
- I love the ability to be able to have multiple apps open but I initially got confused (and frustrated) with the Android split screen multi-tasking. I hope to be able to take advantage of this more as I use the phone.
- Very minor gripe but I wish there were more stock live wallpapers like how Google provides with their Pixels.
- Not sure if anyone else is encountering this but when I open to the bigger screen, there's a click that happens if I press down on the hinge on a bit. I found that opening to the larger screen by applying more pressure with the tips of both thumbs prevents this.
- Sometimes I get "disoriented" over which screen orientation I'm on when using the larger screen (i.e. is it currently in portrait or landscape?).
- When I have the device open in landscape, I like to keep the speakers on top both to project the sound a bit better and b/c the back half with the camera is a bit more grippy compared with the front screen (I took off the front screen protector).
- Haven't had any issues using Samsung Pay with this device.
- This device is amazing when you're out shopping with a significant other and need to keep the kids entertained with the large screen and loud-ish speakers!

Needs a TOTAL makeover!

My absolutely favorite phone is ... Nokia e90 Comunicator. I had this 3 times ln the past. Still have one Nokia e7 in perfect condition. I had also Htc Z . My first Android. I love foldables because... I love it, just love this Wow effect and of course more functionality. Bar phones looking like soaps. Even bigger and bigger Soaps!
