I have a Moto X pure edition XT1575 running Marshmallow 6.0. I've read something about Pure edition owners getting stuck in the middle of booting after some version of Superuser.apk was flashed. Am I correct in saying I have to use the systemless root method? If so, should I use Superuser 2.56.apk or version 2.62? I'm also confused about TWRP. Do I have to use a device specific version of TWRP or can I even use TWRP if I root using the systemless method?
Thanks in advance for your help!
My device info:
Moto X Pure Edition XT1575 (clark)
Build# MPH24.49-18
Kernel version 3.10.84
Android version 6.0
Bootloader OxAo48

Im trying to figure out how to root this myself. Not much to go on. I hope your post gets some attention!
These directions worked easily for me. Be sure you've
unlocked the bootloader https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-a
enablrf developer mode
set USB debugging on
as discussed in http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/general/guides-how-to-guides-beginners-t3200808
Then do the following:
Download the latest stable SuperSU and place it on your SD card, and the latest TWRP img file for clark.
Reboot into the bootloader and boot TWRP with the command `fastboot boot twrp.img` (replace twrp.img with the name of the twrp file) and perform a full backup to your SD card, then reboot into the bootloader again.
Flash TWRP with `fastboot flash recovery twrp.img` and start recovery, TWRP should start... Go to Reboot menu and reboot into the recovery again (this locks TWRP in so it won't be replaced by the OS on next boot).
On this start of TWRP, go to Advanced and Terminal and enter "echo SYSTEMLESS=true>>/data/.supersu" and press enter, then go back home and flash the current version of SuperSU.
It Worked!!

WooooHoooooo!! This is what finally worked for me. Thank you sooooo much.
To confirm:
Moto X Pure XT1575
Build Number: MPHS24.49-18-4
Kernel version 3.10.84
Android Ver: 6.0
Unlocked Bootloader using Motorola's method posted on the manufacturer's site (linked above).
Installed TWRP 3.0.2-0
Used TWRP to make a backup
Copied SuperSu to device
Installed (using method quoted above) SR4-SuperSU-v2.78-SR4-20161115184928.zip
Notes:
No mater what I tried to before (using older ver of supersu) I either got stuck on the M or the M with stitches.
Every time I got stuck I reverted to the backup I created (once I had TWRP installed).
Side-loading did not work on TWRP as it never did finish getting sideload to run.
This guide will help you correct most issues, or help you to flash root correctly the FIRST time.

Thought of others looking for ROOT information as these XT1575 phones are still being bought and sold, so this would be handy from someone experienced -YES- none the less to have someone answer any related questions you'd have.

To be honest, when I get a chance I'm redoing that guide to use Magisk instead of SuperSU... It is pretty straightforward, use the Magisk zip instead of SuperSU and nothing special needs to be done but I haven't had time to test it and actually write it up step by step.

I see and thanks for a fast reply.
Could you maybe link to what Magisk is in your revised guide for us who know not other than Root is possible from it's use.
Then for people like myself who have purchased the Pro version of SuperSU to show support or for more options (whatever the case maybe), still include it of a part in your guide to help us out using SuperSU too?
Thanks for being Great - Sir :good:

It has its own section on XDA

Hi,
I recently got a old Thinkpad tablet (TPT), the 64 GB version.
And would like to install a custom recovery, i already rooted it.
But unfortunately all download links for a fitting CWM image (apparently you need different images for the 16 32 and 64 gb version) I could find were down.
So does anyone here know any working links or possibly could upload the right image for me.
And is there a recovery version that works for all size modely?
Cheers
David X.

It's not recommended to do a factory reset in a rooted device.
Try this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-xl/how-to/twrp-bootloop-flashing-twrp-t3533765
If that doesn't work flash the stock rom (ROM for 1GB RAM version, i don't know if its compatible with 2GB version, test at your own risk)

Hi. I use a moto g5 plus(potter). I have downloaded many number of 8.1 ROMs. Not able to flash any of them. It shows error 255 unable to flash zip file.
Any suggestions???..
You are using the latest twrp? If not this is probably why. The 8.1 roms are all 64 bit, so you need latest twrp with 64 bit support.

Update your TWRP to the latest version and try again. Error 255 is common with phones that are running older versions of TWRP
