Hi guys,
I've just brought this fantastic device, and I'm very happy about it. He is really snappy whit Nova launcher However I would like to receive some suggestions from you on how to get the best from our N10.
For example, I was thinking to install a custom rom and a custom kernel, but I rly don't know which and I don't know if they rly can give some advantages.
I was thinking something like purity rom (because of tweaked bionic and dalvik libraries) + KT Kernel (because it has been recently updated). Or maybe KT kernel + stock rom + ART
What do you think? Have you got any suggestion? Tell me
PS: sry for my bad English
Hi,
I've been using CyanogenMod 11 with its own kernel for some long time now, it never ceased to disappoint me! However, it's not recommendable creating threads asking for the "best kernel/ROM", the best thing to be done is downloading and trying yourself until you find something that suits well your needs . CM11 with NOVA Launcher was good enough for me hehe.

Eheh I know that, but I'm not a flash maniac, and rly I have fear to brick my device flashing and re-flashing roms on roms... That's why I'm asking your opinion. I would like to find immediately the best solution, flash it and then don't touch the device more.
However the for your opinion. I will keep it in mind

I think that the first thing you need to ask yourself is what are your priorities with this device? For instance gaming performance, media consumption, is stability paramount... Etc?
You may want to start off with rooted stock and add the XPosed framework plus modules that give you custom ROM features particularly Gravity Box. If you need more then change your kernel (Franco, KTManta ... Etc). No matter which way you go take nandroid backups and save them off your device before making a significant change (kernel, custom ROM, moving away from stock). Your recovery of choice will provide you with the nandroid backup/recovery functions.
Also read, read... Knowing the focus of a specific kernel or ROM will help in making your choices balanced by the issues other users are having.
Good luck.

Thank for the answer.
Yeah I always read all the feature of roms... But they never speak about optimization or performance. They always add features and options on Android but... Nothing I can't get with gravitybox.
What I need is smoothness. Not necessarily game performance, but speed while moving from app to app without microlag.
However, let me ask here other questions without opening another thread:
1)Is it normal that, when trying to access the recovery (my device is locked and not rooted) it display "no commands"? Do I need to unlock the device to get into recovery?
2) Can you suggest me a program make backups of my games saves and apps without root? Because I need to backups my data before unlocking the device...

Well, I can't really speak on custom ROMs and kernels because I'm perfectly happy with running stock rooted with Xposed Framework on my N5, N7 (2013) and N10. But, to answer your questions:
1) Yes, it's normal. When you boot into Recovery, all you initially see is the android laying on his back with a red exclamation mark over him. In order to get the commands to show, you need to hit power + volume down (or maybe up, I always forget) at the same time. It can take a few tries with the buttons, but they'll eventually show up.
2) I believe an app called Helium is what you are looking for. I've never used it since I'm already rooted and use Titanium Backup, but I believe it kind of works the same as Titanium Backup.

Do you mind providing the instructions of installing Xposed Framework on N4 and N10? Thanks a lot!
Nexus devices are very very hard to brick. Luckily. So no worries there mate. As for roms. Long story short: there is no best rom. If you want speed juat overclock the beast..

No problem. Everything you need to know can be found in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/framework-xposed-rom-modding-modifying-t1574401.
It's pretty straightforward. Just install the Xposed Installer apk, then go into the Xposed Installer app and hit "Install/Update". Reboot, and Xposed Framework should be installed. Then, just go back into the Xposed Installer app and click "Download" and choose whatever Modules you want to run. My personal favorites are Gravity Box, Unicon (purchased through the Play Store), Xuimod, and App Settings. I also have the Xposed GEL Settings (XGELS) Module, but only on my Nexus 10 since I love the Google Now Launcher, but it shrinks the icon grid considerably. So XGELS allows me to get the same number of icons on the GN Launcher as the default launcher.
Edit: Oh, and here is a collection of the Modules so you can see what each of them do: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/index-collection-xposed-modules-post-t2327541

Thanks a lot for the detailed help!
A couple of questions:
1) Is backup necessary before the installation?
2) Does the Enable Translucent Decor module hide the navigation and notification bars?
3) Would the installation of the Xposed framework interfere with the stock ROM updates later on?
Thanks again for your kind help...

No problem.
1) It's not really necessary, but before installing/flashing anything that can modify system files, I always think it's a good idea to make a backup beforehand. You never know. That being said, it's all really simple.
2) If you're talking about the solid black background in the notification and navigation bars, then yes. It doesn't completely get rid of them, it just makes the black bar transparent like it should be when using the Google Now Launcher. I don't use that specific module because I already use Gravity Box, and it already has that option to enable translucent decor. It works flawlessly. I don't know why Google said it causes issues on the Nexus 10. If you want to completely get rid of those two bars, you need to enable something like PIE controls and Expanded Desktop.
3) Yes. But the solution is simple. When you want to update via OTA, all you have to do is go into the Xposed Installer app, and under Framework, just click Uninstall. This replaces the modified Framework with the stock Framework so you can update via OTA without any issues. You don't even have to uncheck or uninstall your Modules or the Xposed Installer app itself. Then, after updating, you'll probably just have to re-root by flashing SuperSU in recovery (unless you have survival mode enabled). After that, simply go back into the Xposed Installer app, and under Framework again, click Install/Update. As long as you left your Modules as is, your setup should be back to how it was before you took the OTA.
Well guys, i think I'm going to install SlimKat 4.0 and KTmanta Kernel... I will tell you if I'm satisfied of my choice
Ok guys, I've done some tests and now I've decided too keep Purity rom + ART... And the results are incredible!
23000 score on Antutu benchmark
9000 with Quadrat
Incredible performances and a GREAT battery life, much better than stock rom with dalvik
I think that the tweaked ART and Kernel of Purity Rom deliver the best experience with our device. I suggest it, you will be surprised of the benefits you can get!
Thank to everyone who helped me in this thread
I have been very happy with my AOKP and Franco Kernel combination.
I've installed Purity ROM + ART and it's fast - but i still think stock 4.3 is faster. I tried KTManta and that didn't change things despite overclocking the CPU and GPU.Wish we could have ART on a 4.3 rom.
Are there any recommended 4.3 rom/kernel combos that give good performance?
Edit: First time i installed Purity I didn't install GApps. It was incredibily smooth and fast. After installing GApps, it became laggy again, similar to my experience of stock 4.4.2.

Do you really find 4.3 faster then kitkat + art? It's really strange. Well I know that the latest jelly bean firmware maybe is built better than 4.4.2 (which has got some bugs here and there, and yeah I prefer JB device options format) but ART is unbeatable, except by a very well tweaked Dalvik library.
However I think I know maybe why Purity 4.4.2 seems laggy to you. Maybe it's Google now launcher + transparent status bar & notification bar.
I've changed the launcher to Nova (but u can use Apex and similar) and immediately disabled translucent bars. It's smooth like butter now. With tra translucent bars, instead, everything was a little laggy and not fluid. In particular the Drawer scrolling was clearly laggy.
So, try to Nandroid backup, flash again Purity + Gapps. Then change Launcher (and unistall the google one if u want) and disable translucent bars. Then activate ART.
That's what I've done and I'm very happy of the performance provided by my Nexus 10
Also now I'm trying KTmanta Kernel. I didn't found increased performances, but I really like the possibility to undervolt both CPU & GPU. Undervolt = less energy request = No overheat = best battery life

I' going to test KTmanta for another week, then I will switch to Franco kernel to see which is better
Sure I agree the general UI and multitasking is snappier with 4.4.2 with ART than 4.3.1...BUT I primarily bought the nexus 10 to consume media (e.g. video, ebooks, music) and for me buttered AOKP 4.3 is much smoother when watching video than any 4.4.2 rom/kernel combo I tried. The trade off is a bit of stutter in the UI but I can live with that. Video was just terrible on 4.4.2, including audio sync lag and plenty of dropped frames.
Can't wait to see how 4.5 behaves with video as I really like ART!
Hi All, so i have been using android ice cold project custom rom on my Oneplus 2 for a long time now and i really love this rom. However now that oxygen 3.0.2 official is here, i'd like to go back to stock on one of my oneplus devices. the problem is, on the custom android ice cold project i have a large variety of custom animation sets mainly 'List View Animation' where scrolling becomes fun.
i am wondering if there's any app that i can install to offer such feature on the official oxygen 3.0.2 even if root is requried. Is there really any app out there that will offer additional animation ?
Please help...
There is xposed modules for it.
I don't use it much but as far as i remember there was a module named XUI mod for this specific feature.
You can also try using gravity box for it i guess that also has this feature (i may be wrong) but there is definitely a xposed module fot it.

Well, the best way to do this, is of course by rooting your phone and installing any TW-based custom rom you like. Debloated, deodexed and including any samsung app you like to install during the aroma installation process.

You should try out resurrectionremix, which is real aosp. As for touchwiz, you can only use a custom launcher, a darker theme and install Google Apps, although that will be all you can change on touchwiz.

Regarding camera quality, you can use htc camera on AOSP roms. Ultra fast focus and great quality. The only problem is it crashes here and then..although o hadn't installed it for a while now. So it may be even more stable on newest nightlies. Otherwise it is the best.
Use Dual Boot Patcher app to install ResurrectionRemix in dual boot with your TW-based ROM. If you want to take good photos, reboot into the TW ROM, and for everything else, use RR ROM

Hi all long time xda member since mytouch 4g days and have owned and modded everything Samsung phone since the note 2. So now moving along, I'm now a A2017u owner with bad boys Rom. Actually I've been stuck on it since it was released. I wanna download los but I'm worried about losing the Dolby Atmos, Dac and the ability to use the the internet while on a call. What los rom can I download that. Can help me keep that? I know about Devine beats but is it really as good? Also I just can't do the whole magisk thing. It just doesn't work for me. Just going I can flash files and get a nice stock system while preserving the perfect audio going. Also I have the phone working with Verizon and world like to know how to make calls and surf the net at the same time.
Thanks for all.
We're in April, I hope the Oreo Update will fully benefit the potential of our DACs.
Stock software rather than custom ROM?

Basically every custom ROM has that xd. Nougat and Oreo. I don't get why you say you can't get Magisk going? Have you tried a custom ROM at least?
Basically you have to format data, flash bootloader and modem (or bootstack), flash the ROM, Gapps, Magisk. Once you have all that installed just reboot and install the Dolby Atmos magisk module, or if you are on Oreo there's a flashable zip with the newest Atmos zip.
Though I don't know why you would use Atmos on headphones? The real deal is Viper4Android since it doesn't add a crapton of noise...

of course the fp sensor does. You know, there's a list of broken stuff on every ROM thread, you don't need us to figure what thing works and what doesn't. And for theming a ROM you can use Substratum, though AEX 5.3 (the Oreo one) has a theme engine that themes the UI (not apps)

I just switched from OOS 10 to PiXeN OS, because of notification issues. Everything is working great now..... But I don't like the Pixel Launcher and tried running OP Launcher with Quickswitch and it wasn't adapting to the dark mode and it was glitching.... Kept going back to defaults layout after I restored it with my backup.
If I could get OP Launcher working.... It would be great.
Was able to learn how to get the OP Launcher in PiXeN OS. The latest patchable version QuickSwitch is able to patch is version OnePlus Launcher 4.4.8. Its stable and it has Google Feeds automatically. So far its stable and everything is working as it should....... Cant ask for more, Stable custom rom with stock OP camera, gallery and now OP launcher.
I've been using Bliss Rom for about a week and i'm pretty happy with it.
It has the OOS Cam as well as GCam, and both work well.

I flashed Pixen yesterday and op launcher didn't work for me. The only reason I did it was because I had read that it worked. Wiped and went back to stock. If only I had saw this first!

I found the solution here on Telegram {Mod edit}.... The Shady Mods OP Launcher 4.5.9 works perfectly without having to patch it with QuickSwitch. I installed the QuickSwitch that was on the Magisk module search and it was v3.1.6. I always use Titanium Backup to make the switch between Roms easier. I only restore apps and not the system files... Some apps you still have to setup again, but the majority Titanium Backup restores the data specially for games.
Basically you install the Systemless_OPLauncher-v3.0.zip with Magisk and use QuickSwitch to set OP Launcher as default (Select No when it ask to patch). Done. Works perfectly. I am on the latest OP Launcher. No issues and was able to restore my layout with my OOS backup. If you have a backup from OOS of your OP Launcher, you can use it to restore the launcher layout. You just unzip the net.oneplus.launcher.tar on the opbackup folder and copy it to the root /data/ data

Give it a shot. I've been using it for the last 3 builds. From what I've seen in the 3 months I've used it, he says this often because people ask about 6t updates. There's usually only one when a 7t beta is released. Other than that there are none in between. But he has explained that his script he runs, builds all of his ROMs in less than a minute so he was going to continue updating.

About notifications, I couldn't figure out what you guys were talking about because I never had this problem. I had forgotten that I wasn't on stock 6t ROM.
So it's possible that this port doesn't have the issue because I get all notifications.

Thanks for all the information. I will wait and see if he does keep updating it. He said he has too many things going and I think their may be a possibility he could stop. I am just going to see if he keeps supporting it.
Any bugs that you have notice with the Rom port?

Not a single bug so far. In 3 months. The only thing is that you get the internal device error when you start up which is not an issue. And you get all the features of the 7t and 8Pro.

PiXeN is really stable. Had only two strange thing happen. One was while I was on a call and could not access anything while on the call screen..... Basically I was stuck. It hasn't happened again. I also did notice the camera lag opening.... But not sure if it was due to the Rom being recently install.
Both issues have not been duplicated. The big benefit for me was, being able to use the OP Launcher and being able to transfer my launcher layout. Battery life is very close to stock and performance is very fluid.
From reading the OP 7T Port Beta 16 in Telegram.... There seems to be people having some issues with the ROM. Didn't read much, but it seems not to be as stable as PiXeN. For now will stick with PiXeN... Already getting use to swipping to the side gesture to go back.... I was used to swipping up at the bottom corner to go back. I did have to adjust the area where the side back gesture was, because some menus you side gesture to bring menu out. So I moved it to the lower side.

Well im going to try it out. I didn't really even set it up up so I didn't give it any real chance. But I'm going to flash it now and see. Just in case he does drop maintaining that port. I'll be ahead of the game. Lol.
Might be time for an upgrade.

I know many users in the OnePlus 6T Telegram group are using PiXeN and have confirmed it to very good and stable. So far it has been true. Plus Gapps, TWRP are preinstalled. It also passes all the safetynet securities in magisk without having to install any magisk modules like I had to do when I rooted stock oos.

Hmm, courious to know what modules were/are needed on a stock rom in order too pass safety net , was it something in order to pass a banking app ect...
As I am currently rooted (lastest version) , exposed installed for a few things, g-pay and banking apps working fine without and modules or scripts..all on a stock rom and kernel..
Can get 8 to 10 hrs. sot and make it through the day without a charge.. though I don't play games... Battery pic is a bit off as I had a lazy day and slept in yesterday ..
