Hello Ya'll,
So I recently purchased the G2 from Verizon and a few things to note about the new GRam and updated camera with OIS. Maybe it's supposed to stutter/lag in this setting but when I play The Simpsons: Tapped Out, I see a noticeable lag when swiping across my screen in certain areas. It slows down noticeably as if it's struggling to process the graphics. I'll have to try it with more games but that's my 1st impression unfortunately.
For the camera, it seems that any sky or even upward shots with the sun just even slightly in the FOV destroys the picture. The white overtakes the picture and everything seems overexposed. If this is normal for a smartphone camera then no complaints. But just even taking a picture out my window without the sun seems washed out and I can barely make out the trees. The 1080p/60fps recording seems to suffer the same problems as the camera when indoors. The ceiling lights wash out everything and it doesn't even resemble anything close to 1080p. Maybe I have a defective unit?
If anyone else is experience this or I'm over estimating the phone's capabilities, please let me know so I can be content. Thanks in advance.
Hi everyone,
I'm having a problem with my Samsung Galaxy S4.
The front camera is producing blurred photos, almost as if they have been automatically edited/badly Photoshoped.
Before I capture a photo, the quality looks normal.
I've made sure the lens is clean and there is no plastic covering the lens. The same happens with Instagram... quality looks fine before capturing and then the same awful result afterwards.
Any help would be great!!
Anyone?
Can you post any photos you took with the front camera?

Thanks for the reply!
Here is an example.
This is on the highest possible resolution but the same thing happens with every option. The quality is absolutely fine before I capture the photo and then, as you can see, it's as if a soft blur filter is added.
Any ideas?
Bump!
I think it's because the post procesing, which tries to reduce the noise for the cost of details (blury).
Try to take some photos in brighter enviroment.

That sounds about right.
I was trying out different apps and Snapchat captures what is on the screen and doesn't apply any after effect.
Have you got any ideas about how I can change some settings or something?

It's the camera. There's a definite lack of sharpness, and it happens on every ROM, so it's not software related.
Having the same issue.
Under good lighting, it's decent.
But under low light, or even under normal room lighting conditions, the image becomes grainy.
Even my previous S3 takes sharper and clearer images.

Exactly. I just upgraded from S2 and never had these problems. My software has just updated but with no effect.
S4 Front camera, STRANGE.
Hi,
I was having problems with my S4 trying to make an ordinarily phone call. The phone seamed sluggish and my voice did not go through once I was connected. So, I switched to hangouts. I made a video call so I was expecting to see myself in the small picture on my screen. I did see a zoomed picture in good quality? Better quality I ever had seen before! I was surprised to see a good quality zoomed picture under poor light conditions. Since I am a computer guy I realized that something is fishy so I looked for an appropriate forum to put this story in.
My question is since you are talking about a suspected software filter. Are we without our knowing it have better camera performance than we the user are allowed to use? I do not buy the ROM explanation of the problem.

S4 Front camera, STRANGE.
Hi.
I had an encounter with something, well, alarming.
I had some problems making an ordinary phone call, sluggish phone, so I switched to hangouts instead.
I made a video call to my friend. For some reason the phone had not stopped being funny. In the small picture, the one of me, I saw something I never had seen before. Instead of the expected streamed image of me I had a zoomed in version in surprisingly good quality! I could see holding my phone, S4, at 30 to 40 cm distance my mouth covering the with of the image.
Question: I looked for an appropriate forum and thread before posting. Since you are here talking about the poor picture quality of the front camera being manipulated by a software filter you might be intrigued like me about this observation I had by chance stumbled up on.
My question is whether the cameras on our phones have capabilities we are not aware of?

Hi all,
I just wanted to start a new thread regarding galaxy s6 camera issue, particularly about the pink tint/flare at night shots.
This is well known issue for HTC M7, and I did not expect the same issue from Samsung.
Basically, the camera is fine at daylight shots, but at night shots it will produce pink tint or flares around the corner edges. Sometimes the whole photo will just look pink.
See the attached photos for example.
I have taken a photo at the same location with iphone 6. As you can see it is so much better reflecting black colour sky. The s6 camera fails miserably at low light shots.
Even in the pitch black room, it will produce this pint flares.
I am wondering whether this issue is going to be massive one, just like for the HTC M7 handset (its thread on XDA runs very very long).
I hope this is not the case for s6.
I have returned mine for replacement. I'll report back whether the replacement unit is faulty as well.
This is going to be my 3rd replacement. First two times had a bad screen with yellowish tint. I have to say I am very disappointed with Samsung's QA.
By the way, my phone was 64gb, ISOCELL camera.
Today, I have visited many different network stores and retailer shops to to see if I can replicate this issue on the display models.
When I covered the camera lens on the display models with a cloth so that it shows total blackness, none of them exhibited the issue I have. Same experiment on mine will produces these pink tint.
I have checked more than 15 display models, galaxy s6 and s6 edge, in different stores and it surprised me they all had Sony sensors.
They were all 32gb models.
A friend of mine has a 64gb galaxy s6 gold colour as well and he's experiencing the similar problem, but not as bad as mine. This leads me to believe, perhaps the issue is only with ISOCELL units.
If you are experiencing the similar issue, could you please post what sensor you are using?
Thanks
I only have the pink tint issue in the centre of the screen. All my s6s have it in the centre, whether Sony or Samsung
I forgot to mention that all settings were set to auto.
Even in the pitch black light condition, I get those pink flares around the edges of the photo.

Maybe if you talk about build quality, I don't know. I would disagree though if you meant picture quality.
Mine is NOT pink

I have the Isocell and I see NO pink at all. I did have the M7 with the pink issue and I know exactly
what you are talking about. Absolutely NO pink cast in any low light shots.

Looks like amp glow or noise coming from somewhere, turn the ISO down and it'll stop that, perfectly normal when the ISO is being boosted to stupid levels.
What do the image properties say on the originals? What ISO are they set at?
These things aren't all built equally either though, maybe yours is getting more interference from somewhere.

Every photo was taken with auto mode setting. Tried different locations at night to see if they all produce this pink cast and they all did.
I don't play with ISO or any other camera setting on a smartphone. For a smartphone, I just want to take it out of my pocket and then take a shot.
I tried lowering the ISO and it does reduce the noise and pink tint; however, the photo then becomes all dark. What is the point of having a F1.9 camera sensor if you can't even take a brighter photo at low light conditions compared to an iphone..
Also, when I do that covering the camera lens thing with a cloth, mine produces this pink cast whereas the display models did not. Display models produced pitch black photos without any pink cast like the one Aletheia posted above. All settings were set to auto mode for this "experiment".
Since Aletheia's camera sensor is ISOCELL, I wonder if this pink cast issue is not related to camera sensor types. Mine could be just faulty.
I would like to find out though how many people are having this problem and what percentage of these people have got ISOCELL sensor.

This is what I got from the display models (all setting set to auto) and no pink cast at all.
MIne is just un-usable at this stage at night. Every photo gets this nice pink cast..

Okay I tried it for you and get a little of the pink stuff. I think it's normal because the ISO is boosted above 1250.
If someone is willing to do the same with Sony to compare, that'd be great.
Here's a shot at ISO800. No pink ****.
I still see overall pink cast on the photo to be honest.
Can someone with Sony sensor take a photo in the pitch black condition with setting set to all auto and see if it produces any pink cast.
The display models I tried with showed no pink tink whatsoever.

Here I have compared s6 vs iPhone 6.
Both phones had all settings set to auto.
Left is s6 and right is iPhone 6.
I don't know if s6 is having trouble with auto iso or something. For me I have to decrease the iso significantly to get the pink cast effect to minimal but by then whole photo becomes darker than iPhone.
Look at the difference when you take a photo in the pitch black condition.
Clearly something is not right with my s6. All settings were set to auto for both phones..

Took some photos with iso set to 100 and pink cast is still present (more obvious if you turn screen brightness to max.)
I am concluding this is sensor related issue at this point.

Hi all. I was wondering if it is user error or maybe a known problem that will require an update. I was snapping pics last night in a poorly lit room for some electronic drums that I am selling and I tried auto mode, wide angle, standard, and manual with all settings on auto and I had to use the pics that I took with my old Nexus 6 becuase the quality of pics from the G6 was soooo poor, really terrible. About the only good results I got were with pop out mode (I may be confused about the name of that mode)
Funny, I was thinking about upgrading my N6 primarily because of the camera but that won't be happening until I figure this out. The G6 is my wifes but I wanted to see how it would perform. The biggest problem was the flash produced an incredible amount of light on the edges or sides of the pics. Really extreme, couldn't be edited out.
Open to suggestions or wondering if this is a known issue.
Thanks
Say "cheese", then rate this thread to express how photos taken with the Google Pixel 4a come out. A higher rating indicates that photos offer rich color (without over-saturating), sharp detail (with all subjects in-focus), and appropriate exposure (with even lighting).
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

Very impressed
I owned an iPhone 11 pro max before giving it away to a family member, and recently just returned a brand new Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. This pixel 4a slam dunks on the iPhone 11 pro and Note 20, all day. Aside from the dismal Selfie cam, the main camera produces incredible photos. IMO, much better than the iphone. And the samsung, may as well toss that junk in the trash. Well done Google!
You will never ever touch the pics this phone can produce for the price. There is nothing out there that comes even close.

Agreed, the front camera is not good. What I have noticed though is if you switch quickly from rear to front, for a split second the front camera actually looks good, then completely gets demolished from processing. Not sure what Google has going on with that, it's not any settings I can find that are doing it, no face smoothing or anything turned on.

Have you already applied the november patch? Do you notice that since you have the phone? Because I have the feeling that since this update, front camera quality got a bit worse. Did anybody else observe this?

Absolutely agree on that. I was searching for other users that noticed this and I ran on your comment. Photos got bit noisier, and with less detail, not like we know with google camera's quality. Also video quality has gotten worse.. Now the result looks like came out of a cheap phone. Im a bit calm though, because it looks like a software issue, and I hope it will get noticed by Google.

Not noticing a difference on front/rear toggle with Nov update. Agree front is over processed and mushy; seems to be a software issue as I find it hard to believe Google would toss a dime store sensor into this pup.

Weird, mine still shows a difference when swapping. I am wondering if the split second I see that appears halfway decent is what you see normally, and is yet still no good lol. Somewhere on the forums here I saw a guy with a US version of the phone and another outside the country and there was a very substantial difference in the selfie cam quality. US version being the lesser of the two.

Front is not great but no hesitation using for video chats and static captures. Those who relish ITM snaps are not going to be happy - especially if coming off a Galaxy, iPhone or similar. Even my modest Moto g7 leaves a better first impression.
Back camera is really fun to use for stills, like the reviews claim, very decent point-and-shoot camera for us casuals. I'm using cstark's PXMod and I'm really liking it so far.

I find the images are all too warm in colour temp, especially compared to the P3 & P3a, in fact every other phone & camera I've tried. Anyon emanaged to get a good neutral white balance? I've tried camera mods but none are quite there
None of smartphones today make good natural picture. They are mostly oversharpen to look good on the small screen. And the other thing is they have wide angle camera which are not good for photographing people. The people faces have distortion. Most of people don't care but I do. They should make the software for camera that would correct this distortion automatically. Some of Olympus SLR camera had these feature.
