I switched to a larger SD card (32 GB > 128 GB) and cannot access the new card or even the formerly used one in most applications. No changes in storage config or any system updates were done.
SD card mounted and recognised in system settings and file manager.
On one hand the SD card is not accessible in e.g. osmand or spotify or komoot or pretty much any other application (e.g. AndExplorer, DiskUsage, ...)
On the other hand photo / gallery apps (stock Sony, Google, and third party open source) see it, e.g. smt gallery 6.8.2.
It seems to me some apps interpret /storage/emulated/0 as a link back to the built-in 32G memory instead of the external 128G SD card.
I tried so far without any changes in symptoms or results:
* formatting the card in the phone, using the built-in wizard when inserting a new blank card
* rebooting the device (in the last few days more than in the last few years...)
* changing the file system on the new and old card from exFAT to FAT32 and vice versa
* checking/toggling app-storage permissions
* manually pointing some of the apps (where possible) to /storage/emulated/0 or the older/deprecated /storage/nnnn-nnnn/ paths
All cards are working, tested in card reader on Linux and Windows, also the SD card is visible (r/w) if I connect the phone via USB to a PC.
Specs:
* Sony Xperia Compact (F5321), Android 8.0.0, not rooted
* MicroSDXC 128GB, Transcend 300S
* several different Kingston SDXC 32GB cards
How can I get my phone back to using a SD card like before?
PS: Sorry I couldn't attach screenshots since this is my first posting...

Did you try appops? (Settings > Apps > [whatever app you want to give access] > Permissions, and toggle switch for "storage")...

Yes, I forgot to mention. Permissions are given were toggled off and on during my attempts.

Hi, if I really fullfill my storage card (4GB SDHC), system shows it is 3,6GB and used is 3,6GB, then device is incredibly slow. It is unusable.
I have Rafyvitto_Acer_s200_LEO_23519_BlacK_NeO_v.3.0 firmware.
Do you have same experience or is problem only in my device or card?
Thanks Kenia

I had same problem when I used rafvitto rom. I did following and problem gone,
1. backup all SD card into pc
2. format SD card with card reader.
3. setting->system->encryption-> uncheck encrypt files (maybe don't need)
4. put sd card back to S200, check the card work without delay.
5. copy files to SD card. (with card reader or not)
6. check sd card if work normally.

I deleted about 100MB and everything is OK. Only want to know, if it is hw or sw problem. I guess that system creates something like content index on memory card and if there is not enough free space, system cycles. But as i wrote, it is only my supposition.
I am running a HTC Touch HD with a 8gb microSD memory card, i was watching a movie on it when it suddenly froze. Done a soft reset and found that the storage card to be empty and all programs which were installed to the mem card are also gone. However Start > Settings > Memory > Storage Card, shows 7.2gb used 700free meaning that the data is still there but the phone will not read it for some reason. I have been doing some research and have found that a lot of people have had the same problem but have not as yet posted a solution
All threads i found on this topic are from 2008-earlier and i was wondering if anybody has found a fix for this yet or whether i'll have to format the storage card completely as the computer on which i made the back-up for the card was also formatted last week in which case ill have to download all the data and programs again.
Thanks in advance
I have a similar issue, I had my Touch HD connected to the PC using the 'Disk Drive' option and accessing some files on the SD card whilst TomTom was running. I unplugged my device and TomTom complained about missing files then the app would not start again, I could not see the SD card after this on the device or my PC SD card slot so I restarted the PC and the phone.
I could then see the files on my SD card, and I could see the files on my device but it is now appearing as Storage Card 2, I had to reinstall my apps to this new location to get them working as I could not get the SD card to show as Storage Card, and there is already a Storage Card showing as well as Storage Card 2.
Weird!!!
Some of the problems with flashing might be tied to the formatting of the Card.
I had problems with a new 8GB Class 6 card a couple of months ago when flashing my Desire.
First off make sure that Windows File Explorer is set up for viewing file extensions properly.
This will eliminate the possibility of incorrectly naming the file.
(netstat_EVO posted a good go-by -=- Here -=-)
I believe some of the difficulty lies in how Windows 'Formats' the card.
You'll want to start with a card that has had an 'unconditional format' performed on it.
This especially holds true if you've plugged the card into a Windows PC and Windows wants
to 'Repair' it. I encountered this three times on the cards I used and the ability of a device
to read a card appears unreliable and/or hampered.
The other thing to avoid is a 'Quick Format'.
In File Explorer, right click on your mounted SDCard and select 'Format'.
In the child window that comes up use the following:
---
Capacity: <Accept default>
File System: <Select 'FAT32'>
Allocation unit size: <Accept default>
Volume label: <Whatever you want>
Format Options:
Make sure 'Quick Format' is UNCHECKED.
This will perform an unconditional format on the card and will erase ALL data...
---
The card is now ready for an 'update.zip' file for flashing.

I did some extensive testing last night with the following:
(3) 1GB cards - different mfg's
(1) 4GB card - Sandisk
(1) 8GB card - Samsung
(2) Laptops - WinXP & Win7Pro
(3) Various card readers/adapters.
(4) Android devices - (2) A7's, 1st gen G1 (GSM), Desire (CDMA).
(1) Old Flip Phone - Motorola RAZr V3m.
Good write up.
I'll try and add directions from Mac to make a working fat32 card later... If I actually remember to bring my card reader home lol.
SD Card Problem
I just received a 32Gb Micro SDHC card. I have formatted it a number of times FAT32 (no quick format). I have run checks and repair on it. Run some tools against it designed for SD. Problem is that sometimes when I put it in the eLocity and take it out after shutdown it turns in a RAW format from FAT32. Sometimes it loses files, more often I put mp4 video on it and the eLocity cannot play it. I have a 16GB card that works fine with the same videos. I even copied them from the 16GB to the 32GB. It seems that the sdhc micro card must be defective but was looking for suggestions/opinions.
Thanks.

Is your SD card partitioned ? If not, this is normal from Link2SD.
Your problem is that your SD card is not mounted at all (no /storage/ExtSdCard folder).
Did you try your SD card with another device ?
Unfortunately, some users report problems with ScanDisk SD Cards on Samsung devices, it may also come from the brand.

thanks for answering
I dont think my SD card is partitioned.. i mean I have never changed/ created anything.. should it b partitioned automatically or i should change something? cuz i havent changed anything..
so anyway, how do I partition my sd card?
thank you very much
SD card partition is made with a Partition wizard tool on a PC with memory card reader. You can also use CWM recovery.
SD card partition erases the whole content of the SD card, so be sure to make a backup before.
For low end devices with few internal memory, it can be useful to create a 2nd partition on the SD card to link applications into it and save place in internal memory (link2SD does it perfectly).
But for our devices, i'm not sure this is useful because internal storage is quite big already.
You can still move applications on the SD card with link2SD (it does not need 2dn SD card partition to work anyway) :
select the app in the list, then select "move to SD card"
Without the Storage menu, it is now impossible to directly format any new SD card to work with the Ultratablet, because as we all know Remix seems to have trouble recognizing any new SDXC card inserted into it until you let it format the card. Without the Storage menu, the option to format an SD card is missing (or hidden, who knows). For now the only workaround is to insert your new (or recently formatted) card into a PC and formatting it as NTFS. But that is not ideal. Please consider adding the old Storage menu again.
A very stripped version of the Storage menu is available in the File Manager app under Settings.

Yes, but unfortunately it doesn't help with the problem of unrecognized SD cards. In the old menu you could format an unrecognized—"damaged" according to Remix—card so that it would work properly, but in this new menu it simply presents no format option or even seems to be aware that there is a card present.
