Does anyone else experience delay or lag scrolling apps like Facebook and Instagram?
It seems some problems loading pictures and make it delay the scroll...

I sure do, but I don't think it's the hardware. Might just be 5.02, hopefully the i3 will get a real update soon but I doubt it. I think they'll likely update to M as we're so close to it's release or this will be my last Alcatel phone, EVER.
In general I'm happy with the phone, according the price he cost.
But my previous was a Zenfone 2 and there are a few things I'm missing.

For what I paid I'm not complaining either, hell of a phone for the price. I had a zf2 as well but I prefer the i3.
Probably you didn't had same version as I did. The 4gig ram.
One thing I thought I would complain was the battery. But actually the I3 have a nice one too.

No, I had the 4gb version but the screen isn't as good as the one on the idol, the front facing speakers are better, the I3 is lighter, imho the I3 is the better looker between the 2 phones, the Android skin on the idol is closer to vanilla android (which I prefer) and the the battery life on the I3 is better.
Without a doubt things were more fluid on the zf2 and benchmarks were better but after using both phones in the real world I rather use the I3. Yes the I3 is slower than the zf2 but not by much in real world situations.
I like I3.
On Zenfone 2 I miss camera quality.

Don't want to start a new thread or tack on to one that pretty much has died.
Where the heck did everyone go anyways. Reviewing threads back when the discussions had been going pretty good.
I picked one up with some reservations but with a return policy in tow and for the price I figured since I'm a junkie then why not.
In brief the display is very good, same with the sound quality and there is virtually no lag and I am using stock launcher. I turned the animations off and limited background processes to two.
Folks can hunt around but unless they got one that is not functioning properly they are not going to get an unlocked smartphone better than this and performs the way mine has for this price.
Great job, Alcatel!

I agree fully, if they could release a follow up with a 801/805 (or the 810 if it gets a price drop) and OIS on the camera (or new sensor) for a small bump in price, it would be damn near the perfect phone.

Really? My Idol 3 is nothing like that. What version are you running? I love the device but it stutters quite often.

Yep - I just switched to the Moto E 2015 LTE as a backup phone (bricked the Idol 3 by having root during the Stagefright update, but thats another story) and the Moto E has no lagging or stutters where it was noticeable on the Idol 3. Apps such as Instagram and Facebook have no lag whatsoever - and this is on a phone with a lower-end Snapdragon 410 chip! Granted the phone has lower screen res and and Lollipop 5.1, but it definitely tells me its either severe software optimization issues with the Idol 3 or the SD615 is a dog like it has been suspected.
I'm really curious to hear how the performance is on the Moto X Play that was just released (also with SD615, but with Motorola software optimization and 5.1.1). Should be a more direct comparison to the Idol 3 spec-wise.
I personally don't use Facebook, Instagram, etc. So I can't comment on those, but the stock browser has a terrible scroll delay. So bad to the point where it just freezes completely. I prefer chrome though which runs pretty smooth for me so it's not too much of a big deal.
Chrome does seem to drain more battery than anything else though. I still get more than a 24hr cycle of battery with my use though if I stretch it. And at least 4 hours of screen on time usually though so again, not complaining at all about this device. Just minor annoyances that seem like a software update/optimization should take care of. Fingers crossed that we get good official and unofficial support.
Hello everyone !
I actually own a Nexus 6. I wanna change my device. I need smoothness and battery. Is it good enough ? I can afford it for 300+€. I'm a bit tired of being flashaholic haha. Thanks.

From nexus 6 to a5 ?... No way....
I need a smaller phone, with good battery life, great display and looking, and wanted to try Samsung. The only one I got was a Nexus S, Nexus forever haha.
I'm just asking if he's smooth on a daily use, I don't play heavy games (Tap Titans, Clash of Clans, Kritika...). And I really love its shape
Envoyé de mon Nexus 6 en utilisant Tapatalk
I've used the a5 and the N6 is my current daily driver. A5 is definitely slower and not as smooth as N6.
So definitely this phone has a lack of performance ?

It has an age old CPU and GPU. You can find same CPU, GPU, Amoled screen etc. in galaxy j7 which cost half a price than a5 2016. If you want smaller phone go for galaxy s6 or s6 edge instead of this pricy midranger.

Hi
About 2 years ago I bought my mate 8 on a business trip in Guangzhou/China. I loved the phone, I did not rebrand it, because I liked it to get faster updates and could live with most of the chinese textes. In two weeks I travel again to china and it's time for a new phone. Not because my mate 8 is not good enough anymore, I still love it, but my son want's a phone and I planed to give him mine and I buy a new one for my self as a christmas gift.
Unfortuantely it's hard to decide which phone should be my next daily driver. The following phones are on my list:
- Mate 10 or Mate 10 pro
- Mi Mix 2
- Oneplus 5t
Each of this phones have advantages and disadvantages. I like MIUI, therefore the Mi Mix 2 would be a good choice, but the camera is not so good. I like the stability of the Mate series, but EMUI is not really my favorit, but the camera seams to be very good. The Oneplus 5t has a nice UI as well and also the camera seams not to bad.
Which phone would you choose?
Mike

Battery, battery, battery! screen size/resolution, update history, build quality, CPU/RAM, XDA support, price point.. probably in that order.
I'd never go backwards in terms of battery life. Everything else would then be considered.

mate 10 pro is best in battery, screen size and preinstalled software (oreo). however, it lacks a headphone jack and sd card slot and the 6" screen is actually smaller than the mate 8 due to different ratio (18:9 vs. 16:9). also, if the mate 8 is any indication, huaweis update policy is a bit lackluster...
mi mix 2 is king when it comes to small bezels, however screen size and battery capacity are not acceptable. no idea about miui, from what ive seen its quite similar to emui though. just hope that xiaomi is a bit better than huawei when it comes to android support of their phones.
OP5T would ne king in terms of pricing and xda dev support. however, since the OP left his mate 8 stock, this will probably not be a valued point in this regard...
out of the above, i would probably go for either mate 10 pro or OP5T. however, ive been eyeing the mi max 2 because of its humongous screen size and battery lets see what 2018 will bring to the table, ill keep my mate 8 until then...

LG V30!!
I bought the Mate 9 about 3 months ago. The 8, replaced my 2....
I'll probably get the 10, about this time next year. (I sell them after I buy a new one).
I was thinking about Xiaomi Mi Mix 1 not 2
SD 821 is still a beast , 6.4 inches in a 6 inch body is appealing , humongous battery , and I don't really care much about the camera , the only thing that worries me about the Mi Mix is the phone speaker which is impeded in the screen itself and has mixed reviews about it , some good some bad
Sorry for the bad English ...
i did it, made the plunge and got myself the mi max 2. not regretting it! already used to the huge phone size, the 6.44 inch screen is absolutely lovely and the battery life...insane. seriously.
i got lineage os 14.1 installed based on android 7.1.2 and my first battery charge is heading towards 24h sot (yep, you read correctly, thats twenty-four!!!! hours of screen on time ) currently, im at 42% battery and already have 14h8min sot tucked under my belt... so thats around 24.4h sot for 100% charge

Booooooo we will miss you around here.
I was also going to upgrade my phone this fall but mostly because I dropped my Mate 8 in water last spring. Battery and screen took some damage but after replacing the battery it has been running like a charm.
I actually went so far as to having the Mate 10 in the hand before my gf stole it from me so now I will wait for next year's flagships. Very curious about OnePlus 6 hopefully with fingerprintscanner under the screen and Treble. Also the new line from Sony, who is finally getting a new design looks very interesting, the leaked renders with front facing speaker looked exactly what I am looking for.

yep, its definitely about time that sony trimmed their HUGE bezels around the screen
btw, also keep an eye out for the xiaomi mi max 3, it will follow the new 18:9 display ratio trend, but sporting thin bezels, 7 inch (!!!) screen diagonal and a whopping 5500 mAh battery. could very well be the perfect successor phone for us mate 8 lovers plus, itll also sport upgrade performance with potential SD 630/660

You're right. But the battery size is a deal breaker.
Newer chipset usually has more power saving features.. So 100 mah difference wont matter much..

But for pure android, better go for Nokia.. Their software updates are better.. If u dnt mind the os, redmi note 5 pro..

I used to play around with my old Samsung Galaxy S II. But I don't have time or feel the need anymore. Nokia would be great, but right now I just need a great battery and a fast phone. And don't want to spend too much. I really don't like Nokia 6 (2018) design, the fingerprint sensor is too low. And Nokia 7 Plus will cost around 400 eur. Way too much. So I guess I'll go for Mi A1 or Redmi Note 5 Pro.

I'm fine with Mi A1, with gcam it has even a very nice camera, but it depends, if you can find it for about 150€-170$ then yes, it's a good choice.
I paid for it about 220€-240$ six months ago.

Tried this before actually but the issue still remain, infact the wifi kept disconnect with all wifi not just my router even the public wifi i do think it has something to do with the software since the first month using this phone everything work perfectly but i can't really remember since when this issue started but now i think it has been like 3 months. I really REALLY like this phone. To me, it's like a Nexus Junior.
I have a Note 8 and I find myself coming back to the Mi A1 regularly.
For everyday use (SMS/EMAIL/INTERNET/SOCIAL MEDIA), it works flawlessly.
Adding GCAM only makes it shine.

If you're referring to the block that plugs into the wall, yes you can use that.......I use my wife's (she's an iPhone user) from time to time, and she uses mine. But, the end of the cable that plugs into your phone is different than an iPhone.
