Hi,
I bought Essential Phone for my parents a while ago. They are not that tech savvy, so I've been helping them with setting/apps here and there through video calls, but it's really difficult in some cases. I was trying to use Teamviewer to remote control their phones, but I can't seem to make that work. I've tried their universal add-on app, but that didn't work either. I'm curious if anyone managed to do this or knows about a different solution. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you,

I have not done this but I infer that using your parents' router to mac-address assign their phone a static IP address, and port forwarding, you should be able to connect remotely. However, I suspect that there will be some lag based on connection and device speeds.

I wonder if anybody could help me? What it is, is that I am disabled. My fingers are paralysed, and so working the intricate parts of the XDA is quite difficult. It is not impossible, but it is hard.
I also have several friends who are in the same situation as me. 12 months ago they were given xda 2 each for free. None of them have used them much because they are difficult to use, because they are stuck in their ways, and because I don't think they really realise the full potential of these little devices. It has took me 12 months to get hold of one of these, but just within a few days I'm quite bowled over with the potential.
So I wonder if somebody would be prepared to lead me through making the most of my XDA, with my disabilities, so I can also share this knowledge with the other disabled guys who also have this Pocket PC?
The first thing I want to do is set up the basic software, to maximise connectivity with my home network. I have already started this, and had some help in this direction on this forum, but I am still a bit stuck.
I have loaded this Pocket PC software onto my xda 2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=17410&highlight=jojo . I have windows XP on my desktop computer. This is hardwired to a 3Com wireless router. I have bought a SDIO wireless LAN card. When you install the software, it virtually sets its self up, the connection displays itself, you select it and have a choice between a Internet connection or a work connection. If I choose work, I am able to connect to the Internet and surf the Internet, but I am not able to do an active sync. I have gone into my start menu/settings/connections/network card/network adapters/socket WLAN SDIO V1 driver /name server and set the WINS to the IP address of the computer I want to connect to as somebody suggested to me, but it doesn't work. I also cannot see the other shared directories on my computer's on the network. (I do have Norton security on, but I have tried these with Norton security disabled.)
Can anyone make a suggestion?
Thanks in anticipation, funny keyboard.
Is it possible for my Mogul to have a static IP on Sprint's EVDO network? If not, is there an application that I could have running on the background of my Mogul, text, and it text back the IP? The reason I ask is I am using Pocket Controller Pro and if my phone gets lost/stolen it's nice to be able to connect via IP to it and either track it via GPS or wipe it. Thank you!
And I've answered my own question sort of. After poking around a bit I stumbled across this program called Pocket DynDNS which can be found here: http://www.zdziarski.com/projects/dyndns/. Although the program is a little more than 5 years old it's been working great during my testing.
IMHO a data connection I'm paying for is a data connection. I'm peeved at the thought that Sprint is not allowing outside world inbound port connections to my device (S4). I have a technically challenged mother-in-law and it'd be great if I could VNC into her device to help her.
Droid VNC Server supposedly allows this over 3G/4G and even shows my external IP address, but all connections fail.
VMLite Server ( http://goo.gl/Q14Hq ) does work, but ONLY via local WiFi.
Anyone have experience with getting this to work over 3G/4G data connection or a way around this?
Lol dude, do you think your "ip adress" is unique on cellphone? Of course not...
You are paying to have DATA in your cellphone, not a internet service. Use wifi..

You're doing better then I am if you have it working at all. I'm on rooted MF9 and haven't found a working server yet. Only tried the free ones so far though. May have to give in and buy VMLite I reckon.
Have you thought about using a MDM to access her device. At my job we use SOTI Mobile Device Management (recommended by Samsung), with this software I am able to remote access and control any android, ios and Windows xp-Windows 8 on any network. I have tried 3G, LTE and Wifi. Our school currently has 670 Galaxy Note 10.1 and I can control each and every one. I can remote in to the device run programs, watch videos and push out Apps silently without having to have the student login into google services. Most companies will give you at least a 2 week trial to see if you like it and that is when you can remote in to their device.

"Lol dude", my old Epic 4G had a unique IP, as does my partner's current Epic Touch. (So did my Palm Pre.) But the Epics are/were Wimax, so it must be that Sprint got stingy when they moved to LTE.
Sucks for me. I know there are dynamic DNS updaters... anyone know of a persistent reverse SSH tunnel app?

Have you thought about TeamViewer? I use that from my mobile to log into my parents computer to help them.
Setup a VPN connection and use that to connect to what you want?

Hey all. I recently purchased a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 32GB and have really enjoyed it. Today I ran into my first issue, and boy its a doozy. Apparently I'm not able to make a solid connection to FTP servers using Active FTP. If I switch to passive, everything connects fine. When I switch to Active, it connects to the FTP server, but is not able to retrieve the directory listing (Filezilla error on laptop) and on my phone it states "425 Could not open data connection to port 48891:Connection timed out". This is replicated on my laptop (Through Mobile Hotspot) and on an ftp client on my phone. I work in IT and use my mobile hotspot as an external network when we need to rebuff a vendor's claims that our network is the issue (I'm sure those of you in IT also can appreciate the pain of having a vendor blindly blame your network instead of fixing their own problems).
Verizon claims that it does not block any ports. Samsung has stated that they do not support this issue, but I talked the supervisor into filing an engineer report (If that will even do anything) even though I won't hear back from them regarding this. So I am hoping I can get some help from the best android community out there!!!
Has anyone else tried to make an active FTP connection from a Verizon S4?
Would anyone be willing to give it a try?
UPDATE:
Well the Verizon guy did some testing for me (Kudos to VZW). They dont block ports, but they also don't forward the return connection for Active FTP. If anyone else wants to give it a try and let me know if it works for other providers, it would be appreciated. I may have to just fork out $$$ for a Public IP on our VZW Jetpack.
Remember that most carriers use CGN (Carrier-grade NAT) on their network, specially for mobile phones. While CGN is supposed to be stateful, Verizon probably has a broken implementation as it doesn't redirect a port to your private IP (something done in Linux by using the conntrack_ftp module). Anyway, using non-passive FTP is almost always a bad idea if you don't have a public IP. Sticking to passive is your better option.
I wish that was possible unfortunately the vendor is using active FTP for his application. I am testing to see if the internal network is the cause of the connection problems we've had. To get him to move over to passive since it is better
Hello!
I have a bit of a weird situation here.
I have a WiFi router in a remote location that needs configuring (Linksys EA2750) as it lost its settings after a power outage. The person that could help me is technically challenged, but at least there is an Android phone there that I can access remotely. The phone is an un-rooted Nokia 5.1 Plus (still) running Android 9. This phone is connected both to the router via WiFi and to mobile data. I can remotely operate it via Team Viewer.
I have tried to use the router's official Android app, but it is unable to configure the router's WAN/Internet settings. I have tried to connect to the router's web admin page, but it is inaccesibile via the browsers (tried Chrome and Firefox). I have tried using a firewall app (Mobiwol and NoRoot Firewall) to limit the browsers to WiFi only without any luck.
The only thing that I think will work is to somehow force the browser to use the WiFi interface no matter what. I've already spent hours trying to find out how to do that, but I am kind of losing hope here. I am guessing that I might need root access to accomplish that, but I am hoping it will not come to that.
I would appreciate any help in making my friend's phone stay connected to Team Viewer's servers via mobile data and access the WiFi router's admin page simultaneously.
Thank you in advance!
