Folks! The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is up for pre-order now at J&R (I can't post links). PLS screen mentioned. No word on SD card slot.
16GB - $499
32GB - $599
I put in an order just in case myself since I'm worried we might see another Eee Transformer shortage.
Anyone notice anything at other stores?

I guess no real surprises. Still disappointed the wifi model has no micro SD. So I had to go ahead and spend the extra $100 and get the 32GB model.
I don't normally pre-order. I tend to like taking my chances at Best Buy or something, so I can have it in my hands the same day. But I have a feeling this thing is going to be crazy popular.
Full 1080p playback? I have not had this experience at all.
I tried the default movie player, rock media player, and Vplayer and none of them have played either of my HD files that I put on it in 720p. Especially confusing considering they are advertising the 3.0 with it when I'm in hopes of 3.1 improving the performance.
Thank you for info. Just have seen that there are 2 models of 10.1 GT.

Do you think I should wait for 10.1 or to get 10.1v today in Spain. I would wait for the slim version but if it will be released on 8th of June in US it will be available in Europe or at least in UK in another 3 weeks.
Do you think worth the waiting?
Yes.

Has anyone noticed that the links no longer work?? I wonder what this means?
I would assume that either they already filled their pre-order amount, or something was delayed causing it to be retracted. Anyone order something and receive a notice?
Tried searching for model number and generic search with no findings.

Ordered mine early this morning. Never purchased anything from jr.com, so don't know if it's normal for them, but I never got a confirmation email or anything.

Yep its popular alright. I have the Google I/O Limited Edition version and its the final product for sure. Everything on it is sexy as hell. no SD slot is correct unless they find a slim slit for it somewhere down the line.
The display is friggin awesome, and has a really good weight and feel in your hands.

Hmmm... very odd. I'm going to press my luck and hope that Best Buy in my area has plenty in stock. Still though, curious as to why they pulled it from their site.
So I just rechecked my order and it is there now. So maybe the whole system went down when they pulled it off their order page. Not sure. But it is there now.
I saw that this morning but think I'm going to wait and see if Amazon or Best Buy does a pre order

I'd understand Amazon but why Best Buy?
Sometimes they do pre-orders like with the iPad 2 or cell phones like the Evo 3D. I'm hoping they do a pre-order otherwise we will have people buying and reselling like these idiots on Craigslist. Ship to store or pick up at store works great in situations like this.

Has anyone spotted any sensible pre-order sites in the UK? There are a couple showing up in Google but with greatly over inflated asking prices.
If the Galaxy Tab 10.1 32GB 3G version is quoted as $599.00, then that currently equates to the UK price being £369.66. I really hope that's right, but alas we usually pay way over what the price 'should be'. I hope we get confirmation of the UK price very soon!
Fingers crossed.
It doesn't work like that. If something costs $X in USA, it usually costs around $1.5X in UK or around X-100 or so pounds in UK. And what costs X in UK costs X euros in Europe and X swiss francs in Switzerland.
Expect the 32 gb 10.1 to be around 500 pounds in UK, if not more!
Hi all.
Firstly, I live in Canada, which means Google Play store content is not as "enriched" as the American version of the Google Store. There's not a lot of variety, or so I've heard.
Anyways, I am looking for a tablet, main purpose is not to game, but for music/video/office stuffs sometimes. I guess I don't need a quad-core processor, but it will definitely be useful.
I pre-ordered nexus 7, but seeing how I am restricted to 16gbs, I am planning to cancel that and get a Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 instead, and put a 32gb SDHC inside. I can only spend about 250 CAD, so ASUS Transformers are out of my question.
My question is, should I stick to Nexus 7, and google play store that is not very developed or get a galaxy tab 2 7.0? I am not really planning to buy content from it anyways, just use it as a day-to-day device for video playback and music from my iTunes collection.
Also, if I do get the galaxy tab, would it be updated to jellybean possibly? Would this improve the performance over already-installed ics?
Or should I just wait for a new line of tablets, and how soon will they be released??
Thanks.

First your comment about the limited "content" of the Play Store will apply to all Android devices. Since they all share the same market. You also have the option of obtaining content via Amazon and GetJar...
Second, I am not 100% sure, but I think the market is not as robust for the world outside of North America (includes Canada), don't quote me though. I am sure other's in your region will chime in soon.
At $200 USD it's IMO the best bang for the buck. I am not sure if you have any other devices currently, but I would really take inventory of how much content you require to carry with you at all times. I assume what ever you are considering buying at that price point will be limited to wifi as the N7 is. You have quite a few cloud storage options. If you feel so inclined, there are also more options on additional storage hardware if you decide to root as well..
Hope that helps,
-CC

While I do wish you could expand the nexus 7 storage you need to ask yourself......are you really going to use over 16 gigs? I mean how often do you need to have 15 movies on your tab? You're probably going to be by your computer everyday at some point so you much crap do you realistically need on it on a day to day basis? If you are going on a flight plug in a flash drive with the OTG cable. The nexus 7 hardware is equivalent or better than the grab 2 7 and the software/dev is going to be amazing. Just my. 02

I didn't think the N7 supported OTG? Does it?
Questions go in the Q&A section
As he said, you need to take inventory of all the stuff you'll have on the tablet at one time. Music can be several gigs, depending on your collection (and that's not really something you want to copy back and forth) and whether or not you use google music.
Remember that you don't actually get 16G, only 13G.
USB OTG is (probably) also possible if you root.

Hi, I have the grab 7.7, the nexus 7 and I just bought the gtab 7.0 for my niece. If I were in your situation with a budget I would do the gtab 7.0 for 2 reasons 1- storage sounds like you need as much as you can get. 2- I think the N7 has some production, build quality issues and my experience with the transformer prime tablet, also made by ASUS was not great.
If you can't wait then get the 7.0. If you CAN wait, I am sure they will work out the kinks - overall the N7 is the better device but the 7.0 is a solid device no issues lots of accessories and does have ice cream sandwich OS

Thanks. Now I am really considering the gtab2. But in Canada would I be able to cancel my order because this is what they told me via email:
"Hello,
We wanted to send you an update on your Nexus 7 pre-order. We’ve had incredible demand for the new tablet and are shipping them as quickly as possible. Your tablet will ship in 1-2 weeks.
Thanks for your patience. Your Nexus 7 will be on its way soon.
The Google Play Team"
This is clearly a bs, since I paid 20 for 2-day shipping, have to wait 1-2 more weeks.
They haven't charged my credit card yet, so would I have a better chance if I call them personally? (I tried last night, gave up after 50 min on the phone waiting)

It's true it really isn't as enriched as the USA store, you can still rent movies at least (haven't gotten my 7 yet to check out what's in the store). I don't see myself gaming really that much either (I have a PS3 for that) so I'll be doing pretty much the same as you.
For Music: I uploaded all my music to Google Music and I gotta say, it is well worth it if you haven't done it already. Really handy and streams really quickly.
For Movies/TV Shows: I have my own dedicated server (Dell running Ubunutu) from which I stream my content from so in my case I'm not too worried about storing stuff on the tablet (except for maybe a trip where I'll save some). If this does interest you or you are home quite a bit, you could even create a share folder on your computer or laptop and access it from your tablet.
As for cancelling, from what I understand you can refuse delivery and they will give you a refund, but I haven't personally checked on that. Honestly, I have my doubts you'll get offical JB and if you do it will be ages before you ever get it.
Which one did you order from the GP Store, 8GB or 16GB?
PS. This will be my first tablet so I'm excited

And at OP, you're gonna be using the same Play Store on the N7 and the Galaxy Tab, so I'm kinda confused about your statement. Do you mean because it's running jelly bean? If so, it's only gonna be a short time for developers to edit those apps to be fully compatible.

Ya I know but you can get it like I did (I live in Canada as well) using Tor to setup an account and then your free to access it while still in Canada. I used this guide, super simple and again you only need to setup using a US IP, you can still access using a Canadian IP
Ohh that sucks, I ordered a 8GB from GP but decided to sell to a friend and ordered through Futureshop, much cheaper (cost me $294 w/ tax for 16GB FS, $256 w/ tax GP in Ontario). Hopefully they do ship them soon though
I got mine yesterday and I think it's the best tablet experience. I have a Transformer (Tf101); and I think I almost like this more. It's smooth, fast and extremely portable. The Nexus 7, along with my Chromebook, will go to school with me. I think this will be the ideal combination.

I also bought galaxy tab 7.0 plus and will get a sdhc card.
Should I keep my nexus 7?
I'm thinking about picking one of these up tomorrow if the sale works out. Note that this sale was supposed to be last week, but they postponed it until tomorrow due to some technical difficulty.

I would be new to the Kindle Fire, but not Android. I have a Nexus 7, Evo LTE, and have owned and sold several other phones and tablets. This one interests me because it's a cheap option for the kids, and I would also like to take advantage of the free monthly kindle lending library book with my Prime account. The most important thing is to get the Play store on there so I can take advantage of my purchases. It looks like I can root the fire, install the play store, and a market opener app, unroot, and still keep the existing OS. I believe the original OS is required to use the extra Prime features (and also a couple of kids apps I've found exclusive to the kindle). I may eventually go with a CM10.1 based ROM in the future, but I would like to at least try the stock OS for the Prime features first.
One hesitation I have is the lack of storage for kids movies. I've seen the nook tablet refurbs for $80 over the holidays, which I know has 1GB ram and SD card slot, but the kf seems to have better software support both from the stock software to the custom development.
So, what do you guys think? Is this the best option for a sub-$100 tablet for kids?
If you install a custom rom (CM10.1) will the amazon market still recognize the tablet as a kindle fire, and can you still install the kindle fire edition apps?
UPDATED: Sale was changed to $70 from $75. Supposed to start tomorrow at 8AM PST.
Kindle Fire Refurbs for $75
It would be a very good choice to get a kindle fire. And if you wanted to go cheaper you could always buy a demo version on eBay for $50. Then root it and put stock ROM on it. That's what I did for my brother

Thanks. I didn't realize about the demo units. They seem to end at about $55 on ebay, and many don't come with chargers. With the sale now at $70, I think I'll take the 90 day warranty and the ability to take back to best buy.

You won't be able to download Kindle Edition apps on the playstore if you put 10.1 on there. Personally, I would jump on this tablet for 70, after putting 10.1 on there it runs pretty smooth, does all I want it to, all around good media device. Not even jealous of my friend's nexus 7 .
This deal is live now for anyone interested. You need to enter the promo code "cnetkindle" when checking out.
I bought a brand new one for $100 bucks about 2 weeks ago on ebay , I havent gone custom rom yet , I have rooted (fff & twrp) , still contemplating losing the amazon stuff , I dont really read much so losing it isnt a big thing , I really like the size , I also have an Acer a500 and that is 10 inch , but the Kindle is actually the "just right size" (after my Galaxy Note) !
$70 is a great price for one of these, even if local storage isn't great. Thanks for the tip on the sale!
Its a sturdy device that my 3 yr old son loves. But we don't travel with it so we don't need local storage. Streaming via Netflix over WiFi is working fine for us.
I didn't care for the stock launcher or OS and so fixed that. But maybe you could just install a different launcher after getting the play store installed. Then you wouldn't lose your amazon perks.
Sold out.....
That's just how good our 1st gen KFs are!!!!

Hey Thought I would share my research with everyone interested in a Note 8. B&Hphoto has the Note 8 on sale for 374.98 with $25 Google play card. Also the best thing is that Best Buy matches this website as per their low price guarantee.
Also Amazon has the AllCast wireless hdmi hub on sale for 70.00 instead of 100. Another price match at best buy.
Sorry I am new user can't post the links. But trust me.
The hub works great streaming movies, games and web. No lag so far. I am able to use my Moga controller streaming to the tv.
How about that, Ouya, my Note 8 does it all and it is a amazing device.
Amazon also selling for $379 just got best buy to issue a $20 dollar refund! If you bought it in the last two weeks.
Any chance of getting this to work on our S4's similarly to how we got the 50GB Dropbox promotion to work? Love to hear if you have any ideas!
