SM-G950 - Bootloop after TWRP install - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hi,
I reinstalled stock with Odin (rom found via Frija - SM-G950F_1_20200518082254_1xwacu9sv8_fac )
USB debugging ON, OEM unlock ON. everything's fine so far but some apps are bugging me with traces of the previous root so decided to root again and use Magisk hide
Every time I install TWRP (twrp-3.4.0-0-dreamlte.img w/ Odin) the phone goes in a boot loop after format and reboot.... I'm not sure why. (I tried multiple times)
I still have access to download mode and TWRP recovery but the system won't load.
I did the same install 2 days ago with the same method and files but a different rom (HAVOC) and it worked.
Any idea?
Thanks!

I installed Magisk with TWRP and the phone just booted normally... still don't understand what happened and why installing Magisk just fixed it but here's my own answer to the problem in case it could help someone in the same situation.

Hey thanks for your answer, I was flashing opt encrypt, It was already bypassed so that was not needed.
What I was doing wrong is after flashing just wiping and it seems I had to format data for it to work hehe.. :silly: otherwise phone shows as encrypted even it is not..
After formating data it booted right

I have Spain region,
Not sure what you mean about the 7 days wait time.. if you meant to unlock bootloader or/and for the bypass...
What I just did it a long ago with Oreo was bypass the FRP lock but I did not have to flash anything, i had the unlocked toggle OEM from dev. Options, after I rooted, then Pie rolled out and upgraded to Pie versiĆ³n and rooted normally and I never had any problems..
I dont remember flashing rmm bypass but maybe I done it and I forgot...
What I can assure you is I never had to wait 7 days for anything.. everything was done on the same evening.
Best regards

That is so strange and I never lived it. I've been reading and it seems there is a lot of people like you...
Maybe a new way to prevent flashing and control people's phones..
I flashed Pie trough Odin, then android 10 with lineageOs and then return pie and rooted again.. never had any strange state... I don't know but maybe it affects on different models.. For me I have a g950F Exynos from europe, hope you find early a solution!

I have May. Security patch, not June.. PHE Stock firm from Sammobile, and I am not updating by the time.. xD
I guess you can not flash with Odin and downgrade to Oreo.. you could try.. seems some people use Heimdall to downgrade but I not tried this my own.
But you made me think why I did not get this prenormal state.. maybe cause my knox was already messed up when I upgraded to pie.. but I ignore it I can only wonder.
It seems some people made it work by changuing the date to Jan-Feb 2019 then unlocking Oem and rebooting.. maybe an old method now but if I was you I would try everything xD

I think yes they are on Pie but not sure cause they are videos can not see right ver.
I don't know if I can send YouTube links here but just search on how to bypass kg status (s8 or all models) and there are several videos doing the same steps with the date and seems it works for them...
You already have the No so you don't loose anything on trying that way

If you have both kg and rmm state
Kg state will need to be checking
RMM state will have to show normal or missing
Needs to be in this state to flash non Samsung firmware.

Custom-ish ROM (Possible TWRP/ROOT) for J327T1(?)

I have compiled for you an Odin-Flashable downgrade to original Nougat ROM.
Does NOT have Google FRP in this version (the ROM came stock this way; unmodified), this is useful if you forgot your Google email.
Download Odin3 and the .tar file HERE
- Open Odin v3.12.7
- Plug in phone to PC
- Simply boot into download mode (Powered off- Hold HOME+POWER+VOLUME DOWN)
- Click AP
- Select J327T1.tar
- Click Start
Once it finished it will reboot and update. It is going to get stuck on 32%, do not worry.
It will take a second, but the recovery menu will pop up. Select Reboot System and it will take some time to get to the OS but you will eventually have Nougat pop up and ready to go!
Enjoy!
*UPDATE*
In the download links I have the "Factory Binary" Custom ROM. It's pretty useful in messing with the phone software, although I do not know the specific use. Use the same method above to install the ROM.
Also, I do believe you can edit the .tar and add TWRP by downloading the recovery.img from my link and replacing it in the .tar and following the same steps. I have not tested because I was helping my brother access his phone because he forgot his Google account after he reset his phone.

Well idk if it is considered to be custom. Its still the stock rom. But idk he shoulda tested twrp bc if it works then that would be awesome. But idk the bootloader is locked. If anyone has this device and willing to test please do so. I cannot test since this phone is my primary phone that i use on a daily basis.

Yes, it runs perfectly.
Good ish' Brad, now hopefully someone will get twrp and I'll cough up the money for another cheap t1
Ok so its not truly the factory binary, its an emulator of that, meaning any changes were not flashed over as in other devices. but i have been thinking and, i'll post this in the original as well, magisk....only works if you completely wipe the device first, same with custom roms, i never tried that when i had the j3, bricks be damned we got odin3 and i got scripts to get outta brick an into download.
if someone would be ao kind as to factory reset and tr installing twrp, that wuld be amazing, i have been working with the note 4 sprint variant and there are a few steps in installng custom roms that we were over looking

Only way I can help you is by telling you go buy yourself a PC if you're going to start routing and or developing the firmware on Android devices it is extremely hard nearly impossible these days with Android devices running version Android 6.0 and up to root without a PC the best and easiest way I've found to root a Android device is to First install a custom recovery like TWR p or ClockworkMod and have a unlocked bootloader then from there you can easily download SuperSU and Flash it with a firmware flashing application like ClockworkMod ROM manager that is downloadable on Play Store what I'm trying to say is if you are using kingroot or kingoroot you're going to be hitting that button 4 million years and nothing will happen either by an Android that has a lower version like any version below 5.0 or get yourself a computer and do some research because it is very easy to do the stuff as long as you know what you're doing if you don't it seems way more complicated than it actually is you're in the right place here on XDA to learn everything you need to know so you're off to a great start I hope this helps have a good one good luck
So is there no way we can downgrade further to a firmware that includes the developer option to oem unlock?... I'm about to try and flash what the op posted right now... I'll post results

You can definitely try it. Last I recall bootloader checks kernel during bootup and if it doesn't match the one that is shipped with the current bootloader it fails to boot hanging at the bootloader screen. If it doesn't work you can always flash back to your current configuration.

Has anyone tried this yet besides the video maker? I thought a similar method was used involved flashing bootloaders through flashfire that hard bricked phones. Maybe @jrkruse could chime in about this. I've thought about this method, but that hard brick potential turned me off.
This is really great though if it really works!

Yes it works. you'll be missing some non-major settings and maybe have some odd extra settings. but overall it works. some kind of BL fusion involved due to showing BLv6 in DL mode. so don't try to odin the U Firmware v4 Bootloader after its completed, bc if you think you can be totally fresh off the v4 UFirm, you'll get bricked and have to start all over again. in other words ... its a BLv6 with the mask of a UFirm BL4. also, best to use Google Keyboard bc the stock keyboard will have issues. GL!

I'm not familiar with your issue. But you can factory reset it to remove the root. Anything else i couldn't help you there. After i saw that the phone was on BLv4 with U Firmware. I did a factory reset through recover mode. Anything else you do i can't help you from there. The phone is no longer in my hands and all that is mention in my quote is all that i can help you with. As far as I know, the ta 1025 is basically the same as ta 1021. The recovery is in the [RECOVERY] TWRP 3.2 (and a sneak peak...) Thread here in the forums. You have to look for the image with 64bit on the filename, it lays in a MEGA link. Sorry for not linking but I am on mobile now and don't have that much time. I'll link it later.

Well its a long process I used a post called convert global to Chinese ROM nokia 6 and I followed the instructions.then I proceeded to buy a bootloader unlock key and did the note you must click on edit phone information in OST before attempting the unlock as it needs the service permissions then just use fastboot with latest adb platform tools .i used the dm-verity commands to allow partition flashing and the critical commands for bootloader flashing and I flashed the unlock bin file.Im using the Chinese ROM as it has more features and NFC you'd have to sideload the play store but it works.also wouldn't hurt to check the forums for the other commands.the official recovery on twrp.me works flawlessly.also make sure you battery is at the least 50% charged anything below 15%charge ost will refuse to flash

No, I don't think you can because you have to have 168 hrs of "Uptime" and I heard that you also need an internet connection...
I think that it is an anti-theft thing

I am not 100% positive but, if you do a little research on RMM/KG state: Prenormal you will find that the lock is supposed to clear after 7 days. I am already on my 4th night so I will tell you if it works :good:
As for flashing the Nougat bootloader, Samsung released an update not allowing you to downgrade the bootloader. (So, if you try you will just get an error) Max Lee's video was before that update.
However, I did find a thread about a method to downgrade the bootloader on this device: (I don't know if it works)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/how-to/guide-skipping-kg-prenormal-oneui-t3911862
And the method of changing the time/date back 7 days only works on Oreo, not on Pie.
So, the only way is pretty much just to wait 7 days

I got mine on eBay. Would a factory reset prior to me getting the phone cause it to have to wait 7 days again?
hainguyenthao said:
No need to wait 7 days for any bit version , just delete modem line from CP file by hex and flash it, then no more KG/RMM
U need Linux to do it, if you want any help msg me

Are you sure? I thought the RMM state lock is in the bootloader which is why Max Lee said to flash the Nougat bootloader? How does editing the CP file change the lock if it's in the bootloader? Also if you are right what do you mean by "delete modem line from CP file by hex and flash it"? What do you need to edit? If you do a little research you will find out that the only way to clear RMM state: Prenormal on Pie is to wait 7 days

Hi there. I was able to fix the kg state: prenormal . Now it says kg state: checking.
All I did was relock bootloader (this is probably not necessary)
then boot up the phone normally
deselect 'auto update system' under developer options. Also deselect 'auto download over wifi' under software update.
Connect to a wifi hotspot and let it phone home
now go into developer options and you should see the 'OEM unlock' feature again (I think this feature is hidden if your kg state is prenormal)
I think the most important part is connecting to the internet and letting the damn thing phone home.
So an internet connection is apparently required in order to properly unlock and root your phone. This is very unfair towards those poor souls that don't have access to the internet. Shame on you Samsung! Also shame on you for disabling the fastboot access to all your devices in download mode! This will be my last Samsung device for a while.

The thing is kg state says it's checking the rmm says prenormal. The the OEM unlock button is already activated. I just can't get out of the pre normal state

Does flashing original android 10 rom with odin void my waranty?

I have s10+ exynos on latest update, android 11. But i want to switch to android 10 original rom from sammobile. Can i do this without voiding my warranty? Does bootloader need to be unlocked to do this? In download mode i see "OEM LOCK: ON(U)".
Help is greatly apperciated )
Since the binary of 11 is 9, it only goes to 10 with binary 9, i.e. XXU9, with binarys below 9, i.e. XXU8 and below, you get a softbrick, I don't know whether it works without a Knox trigger. But actually yes, because you are flashing official FW. I think OEM lock can stay, because it is original software. But it's best to wait for someone who can confirm it. Can't really give you a guarantee.

I was checking the PDA of the updates, some are like you said XXU9, and there are some XXS9 sprinkled between them. Are those okay to flash too? (Now i think about is, is S for stable and U for unstable?)
Btw how does one get rid of soft brick, is it easy like flashing latest a11 update?

It's safe to downgrade and it doesn't void your warranty, you must verify tho that the android 10 bootloader version isn't lower as the android 11 bootloader version, also backup your data as this will wipe everything.
