You can definitely try it. Last I recall bootloader checks kernel during bootup and if it doesn't match the one that is shipped with the current bootloader it fails to boot hanging at the bootloader screen. If it doesn't work you can always flash back to your current configuration.

I have tried all configuration. It will proceed as far as the G93XU firmware then fail. We have to wait until USC firmware updates to BL5. Sorry!

Has anyone tried this yet besides the video maker? I thought a similar method was used involved flashing bootloaders through flashfire that hard bricked phones. Maybe @jrkruse could chime in about this. I've thought about this method, but that hard brick potential turned me off.
This is really great though if it really works!

Yes it works. you'll be missing some non-major settings and maybe have some odd extra settings. but overall it works. some kind of BL fusion involved due to showing BLv6 in DL mode. so don't try to odin the U Firmware v4 Bootloader after its completed, bc if you think you can be totally fresh off the v4 UFirm, you'll get bricked and have to start all over again. in other words ... its a BLv6 with the mask of a UFirm BL4. also, best to use Google Keyboard bc the stock keyboard will have issues. GL!
Big Ups to the guy who introduced this video as well as the creator of the video! I was finally able to make use of this phone by giving it away to someone in a 3rd world country! Love all around for those who made this possible!

I'm not familiar with your issue. But you can factory reset it to remove the root. Anything else i couldn't help you there. After i saw that the phone was on BLv4 with U Firmware. I did a factory reset through recover mode. Anything else you do i can't help you from there. The phone is no longer in my hands and all that is mention in my quote is all that i can help you with. Hi everyone. I have a Galaxy S7 Edge with Verizon service that I'm trying to flash back to its stock marshmallow Android 6.0 firmware. I'm using the latest version of Odin to try and do this. I had a lot of trouble trying to find the USA stock firmware for this phone. Whenever I did find it it had four different files in the download, even though all the guides I was using said it would just be one, the AP. Most of the guides I found we're not very good either. Is there a reputable site where I can find the firmware, and is there a decent guide with instructions? I would do the OEM unlock, and enable USB debugging. Odin would detect the phone just fine. But when I go to flash it it always fails with an authentication error. I haven't tried messing with phones beyond basic usage since the iPhone came out. So I'm a little behind on how this stuff works. What could I be doing wrong? Thank you for your patience.
To flash with Odin u need to put BL+ap+cp+CSC
http://www.alluc.ee/l/VZW-G935VVRU4API3-20161116105352-zip/dtkp5gwq
I did try flashing it with all four. It did not work. I will try again and report back with the exact error message. Thanks for the link.

Try to flash with the same firmware (with now) or higher firmware. As far as I know the verison bootloader is locked so can not downgrade
Is there any way to change the bootloader? I already have nougat on it. I'm trying to go back to marshmallow. The applications I'm trying to use only works in that version. My only other option would be to root it, but I really don't want to do that.

sorry not at the moment. Nobody is working on bootloaders as they have not released the source code.
I finally got it to flash marshmallow by finding a download of the right firmware. I had to delete all my data but it worked. thanks everyone.

This is the only one that I know of that will root the Nougat version of the S7 Edge. It is a very long thread, and there is a lot of information that can help. I know it works as I tried it on my G935U at one time.

Excellent! I wanted some confirmation from someone with the same phone (unlocked AT&T on N.)
Have you remained rooted since? I'm hearing mixed reports about performance and things stop working.) My primary concern though is our locked bootloaders. If we make changes that cause problems can we undo it? Like flashing the stock firmware? Thanks

Yes, I have remained rooted, but I ended up going back to stock G935A and then rooting again with that procedure. Personally, I was not getting the performance I was used to with the G935U as I was with the G935A with the root procedure.
Yes, there are some things that do not work with these eng.imgs that are being used to root the phones. There is NO Xposed for this one, Samsung Pay does not work, but I have been using Android Pay and it works just fine. As for the Bootloader, it is still LOCKED. There has not been any Unlocked bootloaders for the G935 or G930 so far and I don't think we will see it anytime soon.
As for Undoing, yes. There is a very simple way to go back to stock with Odin. In fact, about once a month, I return to stock just so I can get the latest security patch and then re-root my phone back to this way. I know it is somewhat of a pain, but with Titanium Back up I can get my phone back to running normally in a couple of hours.
Hope this helps...
It's not quite as fast, but if you are backing up and restoring to the same device, you can just use ADB. I still have a TiBu license, and use it on my Tab S2, but I have largely adapted to not having root on my S7 by taking advantage of basic ADB features.

One followup--when you say Xposed doesn't work, do you mean you tried the newest Nougat version that just got released? Or it never worked, not even on M?

What I meant was Xposed doesn't work on the current version of root using the eng.img. I have not tried using the NEW Xposed that is in THIS thread. I have looked at it but have not had a chance to run the zipped file and installing it. I know it works with MM as I had it working GREAT with MM and the eng.img with that version. I love Xposed and wish that was available for Nougat and N's root. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will be fully implemented soon.

I tried this 4 times and failed. The problem is it just keeps rebooting (about every 45 to 60 seconds) after I flash the eng boot img. Im never able to run adb commands. If I start from a clean slate I can't even make it past the setup screens to enable debugging.
I'm reaching out to you because you succeeded with the same model SM-G935U
So I'm just seeing if you have any insights. My phone should be the same as yours. Only difference is mine came with 7.0 preinstalled. Maybe an earlier firmware? But that doesn't make sense because people are, to my understanding, using the eng boot with recent firmware.
I'll repost in the root thread if I need to but thought I'd see if you have anything to offer. Thanks

I seem to remember the constant rebooting on the U-Firmware also. I too kept trying and it finally took. I think I would take the OTA from the server and try to install the eng.img with Odin. When you do this, does Odin give you any errors? Or does it succeed at the installation?
It has been a few months since I rooted the U-Firmware so not for sure what fixed the rooting process. Sorry I couldn't be more help...

Thanks. No Odin works perfectly whether I flash eng boot or stock.
I looked at the root guide for Sprint and the process is a lot more involved. I believe he boots to recovery twice and wipes cache plus factory reset twice. He also stresses to get the root.bat run quickly to avoid bootloop.
Might be worth a shot but the process of running Odin, getting back to stock and restoring all my data winds up being close to a few hours so It'd be very helpful to find someone with the same issue as me who was able to resolve it.
I have compiled for you an Odin-Flashable downgrade to original Nougat ROM.
Does NOT have Google FRP in this version (the ROM came stock this way; unmodified), this is useful if you forgot your Google email.
Download Odin3 and the .tar file HERE
- Open Odin v3.12.7
- Plug in phone to PC
- Simply boot into download mode (Powered off- Hold HOME+POWER+VOLUME DOWN)
- Click AP
- Select J327T1.tar
- Click Start
Once it finished it will reboot and update. It is going to get stuck on 32%, do not worry.
It will take a second, but the recovery menu will pop up. Select Reboot System and it will take some time to get to the OS but you will eventually have Nougat pop up and ready to go!
Enjoy!
*UPDATE*
In the download links I have the "Factory Binary" Custom ROM. It's pretty useful in messing with the phone software, although I do not know the specific use. Use the same method above to install the ROM.
Also, I do believe you can edit the .tar and add TWRP by downloading the recovery.img from my link and replacing it in the .tar and following the same steps. I have not tested because I was helping my brother access his phone because he forgot his Google account after he reset his phone.

Ok so its not truly the factory binary, its an emulator of that, meaning any changes were not flashed over as in other devices. but i have been thinking and, i'll post this in the original as well, magisk....only works if you completely wipe the device first, same with custom roms, i never tried that when i had the j3, bricks be damned we got odin3 and i got scripts to get outta brick an into download.
if someone would be ao kind as to factory reset and tr installing twrp, that wuld be amazing, i have been working with the note 4 sprint variant and there are a few steps in installng custom roms that we were over looking

Only way I can help you is by telling you go buy yourself a PC if you're going to start routing and or developing the firmware on Android devices it is extremely hard nearly impossible these days with Android devices running version Android 6.0 and up to root without a PC the best and easiest way I've found to root a Android device is to First install a custom recovery like TWR p or ClockworkMod and have a unlocked bootloader then from there you can easily download SuperSU and Flash it with a firmware flashing application like ClockworkMod ROM manager that is downloadable on Play Store what I'm trying to say is if you are using kingroot or kingoroot you're going to be hitting that button 4 million years and nothing will happen either by an Android that has a lower version like any version below 5.0 or get yourself a computer and do some research because it is very easy to do the stuff as long as you know what you're doing if you don't it seems way more complicated than it actually is you're in the right place here on XDA to learn everything you need to know so you're off to a great start I hope this helps have a good one good luck

Hello I bought this Galaxy S8 SM 950U from this lady off letgo. Anways I just made sure it turned on which it did, and had no cracks, so I was trying to make it fairly quick because i had to drive to her home and walk in, and didnt want to be there long, so i get home clear the data from my new phone ans it asks for her google account. Ive never done anythung like this, but i looked up what to do and flashing the phone was an option ao i chose that one. I used oden and i guessed flashed some kind of combination binary because odin at the end of the download, it was a sucess. So i turn it on and its been stuck in Factory Binary mode. The original was andriod 7.0 G950USQS2BRB1 and now it is G950USQU5ARG4. Im so glad i wrote down the oringinal, but please help. I watched tutorials on how to flash the frp using odin and it seemed pretty simple but i guess not and im definitely stuck and have no idea what to try next could someone please help me
See that 5 in the firmware. That is the bootloader revision. Now you.have to down load a equal revision stock firmware and flash that over the binary
Btw if your area is like mine. Let go is a joke and full of junkies get receipts and addresses and signatures on all phone. I did get me a nice ps4 a few days back.

Thank you very much bud I really appreciate that I've been stuck for 2 weeks. And I'm taking a wild guess here but i load the boot into the BL SECTION OF ODIN correct? Weird thing is that last night i flashed a boot loader honestly i forgot the number of it and I'm not near my laptop but it did stop marking that SW check fail rev 4 binary 1 error and when i restart my phone it goes to factory nice still.,.... Now it's in factory mode but it reads boot completed when it gets to the home page. Last thing, i did get a "write error message" that failed my flash... I'm kinda even more lost now

you cal also flash the unbranded firmware on it, but by doing so, you will ditch the at&t firmware which has proven to be difficult to find. Not impossible, but difficult. I flashed the U1 firmware on my S9 (i know you have an S8, but theyre virtually identical) and its flawless

you bet. are you familiar with the flashing process?
I know it's probably been asked a million times but jas anyone actually tried flashing 9750 firmware on the us 975u/u1 with patched odin 3b? If not could trying result in a hard brick? I know everyone always says (including me) its not possible, but i haven't seen proof anywhere.

so u mention its been asked amillion times and you also usually say its not possible but u still asked lol
many have tried and all have failed.. the only way to get some of the firmware such as csc is with at least root or some unreleased exploits. and no, theres no root for u or u1 at this time..
i have tried myself multiple times, multiple ways on multiple devices over multiple years.. but dont take my word for it..
trying to flash it wont brick or do anythimg to ur device. itll just be a waste of time.. odin will fail right off the start and not flash anything at all..
this is because the devices have different signatures..
Try it. It wont brick, it will either work or it wont. Internally they're the same phone, one is dual SIM and one isn't. You can flash U1 fw on a U or U fw on a U1 so give it a shot and report back...
Try it and let us know. Try do a hybrid firmware using 9750 firmware and load u1 CP and CSC file and flash it with patched odin

If its a matter of device signature then you would think the U to U1 or U1 to U conversion would work without patched odin. I had thought it was a matter of firmware verification/model verification which is supposed to be removed in patched odin. Have you tried to mix and match different parts like HK bootloader and system with US csc and cp? It just seems like the bootloader and sytem at least should work since all the hardware minus sim2 are the same.

Show us Jwarrior!!!!
Of course as i amd everyone else figured it fails. Has anyone tried decompressing the tar.md5 files and creating hybrid versions? If we could figure out which file is used for device info verification we might get somewhere. Im just trying to explore all possibilities to maybe stumble upon our hail marry to the no root problem. If we work together trying things it should help speed up the process. Everyone said the s8 wouldn't ever have root yet someone still found a way. If people want something bad enough they'll find a way.

lol that was me n some other ppl on the s8 devices.. whole different ballgame now..
and every firmware image in the tar.md5 is signed and verified during flashing..
also with vbmeta you cant even mix and match stock signed untouched firmware so no, "hybrid" wont work at all
the easy/obvious stuff was tried already but you can keep trying if ud like lol

Its unfortunate that Samsung is becoming so much like apple. I loved my S5 and loved it even more with custom firmware and such. Im seriously considering the pixel 4XL when the price drops. Ya it has less ram/storage but i still used my 2gb ram/ 16gb storage s5 alongside my s8 sometimes more. Im just one of them people that needs the ability to customize anything and everything. I was starting to get into building my own custom rom. Maybe there will be good holiday deals.
If anyone needs help testing anything to aid in possible root/bl unlock im willing to help.
