Factory binary mode stuck help!!! - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hello I bought this Galaxy S8 SM 950U from this lady off letgo. Anways I just made sure it turned on which it did, and had no cracks, so I was trying to make it fairly quick because i had to drive to her home and walk in, and didnt want to be there long, so i get home clear the data from my new phone ans it asks for her google account. Ive never done anythung like this, but i looked up what to do and flashing the phone was an option ao i chose that one. I used oden and i guessed flashed some kind of combination binary because odin at the end of the download, it was a sucess. So i turn it on and its been stuck in Factory Binary mode. The original was andriod 7.0 G950USQS2BRB1 and now it is G950USQU5ARG4. Im so glad i wrote down the oringinal, but please help. I watched tutorials on how to flash the frp using odin and it seemed pretty simple but i guess not and im definitely stuck and have no idea what to try next could someone please help me

See that 5 in the firmware. That is the bootloader revision. Now you.have to down load a equal revision stock firmware and flash that over the binary
Btw if your area is like mine. Let go is a joke and full of junkies get receipts and addresses and signatures on all phone. I did get me a nice ps4 a few days back.

Mr. Mad Scientist don't mean to bug but I'm having the same problem right about now except my s6 was running a 7.0 G920VVRS4DQK1 And i downgraded to G920VVRU4AOJ1. So you're saying that now i have to find a ROM WITH A build number that has a 4 IN the same spot and flash that file by itself with Odin and that would put my phone back to normal how it should be....? Need help, please help

Yea your on a rev 4 bootloader. Any Rom with a 4 in that location will work

Thank you very much bud I really appreciate that I've been stuck for 2 weeks. And I'm taking a wild guess here but i load the boot into the BL SECTION OF ODIN correct? Weird thing is that last night i flashed a boot loader honestly i forgot the number of it and I'm not near my laptop but it did stop marking that SW check fail rev 4 binary 1 error and when i restart my phone it goes to factory nice still.,.... Now it's in factory mode but it reads boot completed when it gets to the home page. Last thing, i did get a "write error message" that failed my flash... I'm kinda even more lost now

Same problem as Morgenmoles!

So what would be an equal revision stock firmware to flash over the binary? I ended up with G950USQU5ARG4 as well and am stuck! Got my from letgo site as well and yes it's a joke no doubt! Thanks for your help!

5th digit from far end is a 5. So either 5 or 6 would be your best bet. With Odin 3.13 I always recommend the lasted what's your carrier and I can try to find one for you later if you haven't yet

just my $0.02, but keep in mind that if you flash firmware with a 6th gen bootloader, you cant go back to anything with the 5th gen. The G950U models arent rootable, so i just always go with the most recent version

you cal also flash the unbranded firmware on it, but by doing so, you will ditch the at&t firmware which has proven to be difficult to find. Not impossible, but difficult. I flashed the U1 firmware on my S9 (i know you have an S8, but theyre virtually identical) and its flawless

Please help with my mystery rooted Note 4

So I bought a used Note 4 off Kijiji last summer. (I live near Toronto)
It's worked great until a couple days ago when the screen started freezing up and sometimes even rebooting.
I tried a factory reset and removing the SD card and it is still buggy.
Took it in to a shop today and the guy said it is a rooted phone and has a software problem.
I was under the impression it was a stock Rogers Note 4 when I bought it but I cant be certain.
The guy at the store said it was a Canadian phone but he's not sure what carrier and that could affect what I need to flash it with.
So now I'm not sure where to start. If it's already rooted do I just put a new rom or something on it and hope it becomes stable again?
Any help would be appreciated.
Go to sammobile.com there you can download the stock firmware and google how to flash a new stock rom through odin if you say the phone is from rogers then the N910W8 will be your model (just search it on the firmware search) it dosent matter what rom you are using as long as your baseband is one from your cell provider (There are different ones to choose from make sure you choose the provider you are using and flash that for no issues. When you reflash a stock rom through odin it will wipe anything on it and will return it to factory defaults and you will have a clean new rom now, Good luck reply to this message or PM me if you have any problems.
The best starting point would be Settings -> About Device.
Then look at the Baseband Version. Look for the first five characters i.e. N910F or whatever the "F" character might be. "C" or "H" etc.
Go to http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ and start to type "galaxy note 4", there should be 1 suggestion that matches what your phone said.
Click the suggestion and the search icon.
On the next screen, select you country or provider and then go from there.
You'll need to sign up for a free account, before you can download firmware form the site.
What if the phone isn't actually a Rogers phone originally?
Will I mess it up if I use the Rogers software?
And also if it's already rooted, should I just put on a better rom instead of going back to stock?

safety first, bro.....
if you go with custom ROM, you cant make sure if everything is good, bugs/glitch in custom rom might happened.
go stock first, make sure all is good. after that, its up to you if you want custom rom.
That samsung site is a mess, it says I have to disable adblock but then I just get constant popups and can't download the firmware. When I leave ad block on I get a session timed out error every time I try to download.
Had to switch to edge browser to get it to work and now it's a 2 hour download. Considering the ridiculous amount of ads on this site they're being super cheap with bandwidth. Greedy rich jerk corporation.

Phone seems better. Not sure it's 100% like it was but I'm playing around with a Moto X for a week and then I'll give the Note a go again.
Turns out the phone is still messed up. Putting the factory rom basically did nothing. Guess I will have to look in to putting another rom on the phone.
Is there an app that makes installing roms easy? Haven't done this in years, hoping for a rooting note 4 for dummies type thing.

Flash twrp recovery through Odin and use it to flash custom roms. For the Note you can choose touch wiz based (my preference to retain all the stock functions) or aosp based (CM and such).

Odin fails every time

Bought an S8 in this condition. The guy said it had no OS. I looked it over and all seemed fine. I was all like, "well it goes into download mode and Odin can see it, I'll just flash an OS on it, itll be fine!" But now, I've put all the correct files (from the stock firmware) in the correct spots in Odin (AP, CP, BL, CSC) yet it fails EVERY time.
I get FAIL! SHA256 is invalid.
I'm using Odin 3.12.3
I tried a "patched" version of Odin as well, but I get a different error with that one. It makes it to "write", and then fails that.
I've attached some pics of some info that is on the phone both in download mode and on the splash screen. If any of that info rings a bell to anyone and you can point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it!!
Am I screwed or what? Thanks!
I'm following this guide as well: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/how-to/official-stock-firmware-update-odin-t3598172
Are you trying to flash the correct firmware? This is the US Model you you need a US carrier. Also should try Odin 3.12.10, here is the link. https://mega.nz/#!8RtAga4T!wVqZh4wv3lmCvuDM5Fnn0kRNWHG20D6WihrBWUiuHPE

Should I try to flash my carrier variant of the FW?
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s8/SM-G950U/
Here is 950U firmware, I don't know what carrier MDL is. If say you'll have to download them all and flash them one by one and find the right carrier. It's strange but one of the fixed has blown as indicated by ODIN do some research on that fuse. It might be the cause of your issues

That's the only way you're gonna find out. Flashing G950F firmware won't help you unfortunately. I'm tipping it's the fuse though. Maybe sammy can repair it for you. It's gonna cost but. If not you have a fancy paperweight =/

Fuse means nothing. My fuse is blown also. It means that the internals will only work in your phone. Or at least that's what I heard. I would ask Sammy. But you have a U model device meaning that you can only flash SM-G950U and SM-G950W firmwares.

For your sake I hope it's as simple as running through the different carrier firmware and you can get a functional device back! It's a great device and doesn't deserve to be a paper weight. Plus you don't deserve it either. Good luck and let me know how you go
I hope your device is fixed. It happened with me an hour ago. I tried 9 times to flash stock ROM after TWRP installation attempt messed my device.
it used to fail each time. What I did was Pressed the DownloadMode combo when it failed and rebooted and got in recovery and flashed. it worked the 1st time like this.
Make sure SIM is out.

Check this post out - it is for G950U and G950U1 devices + US Carriers. There are different methods that are needed to be followed depending on what you are trying to do. Read it, ask question. By the way if your S8 is 950U, then don't flash firmware from an F model.

Custom-ish ROM (Possible TWRP/ROOT) for J327T1(?)

I have compiled for you an Odin-Flashable downgrade to original Nougat ROM.
Does NOT have Google FRP in this version (the ROM came stock this way; unmodified), this is useful if you forgot your Google email.
Download Odin3 and the .tar file HERE
- Open Odin v3.12.7
- Plug in phone to PC
- Simply boot into download mode (Powered off- Hold HOME+POWER+VOLUME DOWN)
- Click AP
- Select J327T1.tar
- Click Start
Once it finished it will reboot and update. It is going to get stuck on 32%, do not worry.
It will take a second, but the recovery menu will pop up. Select Reboot System and it will take some time to get to the OS but you will eventually have Nougat pop up and ready to go!
Enjoy!
*UPDATE*
In the download links I have the "Factory Binary" Custom ROM. It's pretty useful in messing with the phone software, although I do not know the specific use. Use the same method above to install the ROM.
Also, I do believe you can edit the .tar and add TWRP by downloading the recovery.img from my link and replacing it in the .tar and following the same steps. I have not tested because I was helping my brother access his phone because he forgot his Google account after he reset his phone.

Good ish' Brad, now hopefully someone will get twrp and I'll cough up the money for another cheap t1
Ok so its not truly the factory binary, its an emulator of that, meaning any changes were not flashed over as in other devices. but i have been thinking and, i'll post this in the original as well, magisk....only works if you completely wipe the device first, same with custom roms, i never tried that when i had the j3, bricks be damned we got odin3 and i got scripts to get outta brick an into download.
if someone would be ao kind as to factory reset and tr installing twrp, that wuld be amazing, i have been working with the note 4 sprint variant and there are a few steps in installng custom roms that we were over looking

Only way I can help you is by telling you go buy yourself a PC if you're going to start routing and or developing the firmware on Android devices it is extremely hard nearly impossible these days with Android devices running version Android 6.0 and up to root without a PC the best and easiest way I've found to root a Android device is to First install a custom recovery like TWR p or ClockworkMod and have a unlocked bootloader then from there you can easily download SuperSU and Flash it with a firmware flashing application like ClockworkMod ROM manager that is downloadable on Play Store what I'm trying to say is if you are using kingroot or kingoroot you're going to be hitting that button 4 million years and nothing will happen either by an Android that has a lower version like any version below 5.0 or get yourself a computer and do some research because it is very easy to do the stuff as long as you know what you're doing if you don't it seems way more complicated than it actually is you're in the right place here on XDA to learn everything you need to know so you're off to a great start I hope this helps have a good one good luck
So is there no way we can downgrade further to a firmware that includes the developer option to oem unlock?... I'm about to try and flash what the op posted right now... I'll post results

You can definitely try it. Last I recall bootloader checks kernel during bootup and if it doesn't match the one that is shipped with the current bootloader it fails to boot hanging at the bootloader screen. If it doesn't work you can always flash back to your current configuration.

Has anyone tried this yet besides the video maker? I thought a similar method was used involved flashing bootloaders through flashfire that hard bricked phones. Maybe @jrkruse could chime in about this. I've thought about this method, but that hard brick potential turned me off.
This is really great though if it really works!

Yes it works. you'll be missing some non-major settings and maybe have some odd extra settings. but overall it works. some kind of BL fusion involved due to showing BLv6 in DL mode. so don't try to odin the U Firmware v4 Bootloader after its completed, bc if you think you can be totally fresh off the v4 UFirm, you'll get bricked and have to start all over again. in other words ... its a BLv6 with the mask of a UFirm BL4. also, best to use Google Keyboard bc the stock keyboard will have issues. GL!

GL!

I'm not familiar with your issue. But you can factory reset it to remove the root. Anything else i couldn't help you there. After i saw that the phone was on BLv4 with U Firmware. I did a factory reset through recover mode. Anything else you do i can't help you from there. The phone is no longer in my hands and all that is mention in my quote is all that i can help you with. GL!

Rooted with new binary, can I install U firmware?

I recently acquired a G935P to repair my old phone that had a bad sim card reader. I used the motherboard from the Sprint phone because i'm not skilled in the ways of micro=soldering items. Come to find out Sprint is particularly difficult because they are the only carrier that has upgraded their S7E's to binary 5. Now I have after various attempts, successfully rooted the phone with no issues, seems to run fine albeit some lag (due to the engboot) but I was inquiring that since I have root can I install the U firmware and how would I go about doing that. Thanks in advance!

As long as the U firmware is binary 5, if it is not, you will get an error in odin.

Yeah found that out, lol....I been trying different variations of firmware/pit/backups/combination firmware to maybe and try to get pass this so I can use this phone with my verizon plan with no success, the closest i've come is to have it rooted accessing the hidden menus and changing different settings any ideas?

Is the phone sim unlocked? You may have to call sprint to get it unlocked first. Until Verizon (or the g935u) gets binary 5, you will be unable to change your firmware, with the exception of the sprint binary 5 firmware.

It was recently unlocked but it consistantly showed the device receiving the signal as roaming, i believe because it was only internationally unlocked? and it did not pick up the 4G bands, only reaching normal 3G speeds and in my attempts to flash the U firmware I somehow managed to undo the procedure :/ I have the MSL code and am contuining with trying different settings to see if I can at least get the phone to accept the SIM card again.

Have you tried to manually add the carrier info? Sometimes when using different roms you have to change where you are connecting to because the rom defaults to another carrier.

Yes sir, I have to access the hidden menu to get into the data profiles but even when i get there, it won't show the APN's set for the device because 'user is not authorized' and when i add the verizon apn information and hit save, it doesn't go through.

hi guys, i wanted to make sure i understood what i was reading. I have in fact rooted with the the sm-g935p with 5 binary, (the recent root on Godpowers post for root, you guys probably already know that, sorry if Im wasting your time)anyways, so if im reading correctly, I still cannot crossover to the "U" firmware? And if I may ask, what was the advantage to the U firmware, and am i able to run xposed with binary 5 BRA1? Any details you guys could shoot my way would be great. Thanks!

Has anyone tried the z3x Samsung tools? It worked on other galaxy phones with the same issue

I believe once you achieve root you should be able to run xposed, i'm not entirely sure on that but from what I understand it's possible. The U firmware is just devoid of any carrier bloat and allows you to run a more pure version of the samsung firmware, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

On older Samsung phones, when the bootloader was upgraded, you could 'odin' the previous firmware. It did this by not flashing certain components of the tar file. For example, you could go from a binary 5 nougat to a binary 4 marshmallow firmware, but the bootloader would still remain on binary 5... however, you just installed the binary 4 firmware.
Not sure if this would let you go to the u firmware, but may let you rollback to a binary 4 firmware. Haven't tried it on my s7 since I'm stuck with sprint until October... so no point at this time.
Is the new Oreo firmware from various cell companies binary 5?

Anyway you would be willing to share your process with me? I have been researching and testings out many methods and have failed and from what you described so far it is definitely one I haven't tried yet lol.

Haven't done it in a while since it was on an older phone, but you use a program called z3x Samsung tool pro. It will allow you to only flash certain aspects of the file. You may or may not be able to cross over from p firmware to u firmware with it.
