Sony Location Free Player

I started a thread a few months ago concerning a proprietary video player that Sony used for their Location Free Player devices. Well...
The software code has now been moved to open source status and is free for full linux development. I'm hoping I can convince one of you savvy developers to whip up the player so it can run on either Android or a full linux OS (I use Ubuntu). I'm sure it's a gold mine for tons of other video streaming applications that could potentially run on our devices.

Location Free TV is the program I'm specifically talking about. I believe the current version is LFA-PC30. If you would like to read more on this device/player you can check the wiki at:

Let me know if anyone has any questions, I very eager to see if this is possible. If I could stream video from my Location Free Player Base I to either my android device or Ubuntu Netbook I would be very very pleased. If a dev is serious I would be more than happy to have them test on my base station. PM or email me if you're interested!

I too would love to see more on this, my locationfree box could get so much more use.

So a sony base unit (hardware) is needed to try this right

If someone is working on this, and needs a connection to a base station to test ( I have the last version that came out LF-V30 ) message me and I'll send you the adress to connect to my station and the password

[Q] Help with android lost

Hello on android lost i installed the android lost app and android lost jumpstart on my nexus 7 and when i go to androidlost.com andgoto controls it says Waiting for phone to be registered.

I think (but am not 100%sure) it requires cell service to control the app via (hidden) SMS messages.
If that is indeed the case, it won't work on wifi-only devices.
You didn't mention whether your unit was a wifi-only or 3g model.
I'm not sure what to recommend as I'm unfamiliar with apps in this space - maybe Plan B ? But for all I know, it might also use the same control channel.

It does look like the dev specifically is trying to address wifi-only devices; OTOH the comment in the "what's new" section from the apps market page sounds like the Dev doesn't have a N7 to test...
Making detection of phone state optional since lots of tablets does not have phone capabilities. Hopefully this should make it work on google nexus 7 tablets

I would try contacting the app dev (reading between the lines, I got the impression you are testing the app rather than having lost the tablet) - he might be eager to have some testers on the N7

Joying Intel Sofia Head Unit, please help a noob with a few questions.

Hi all,
Firstly would like to say thanks to all the joying users here. There are some great things you guys are doing, excited to own one of these units and learning/fiddling more everyday. Sick of buying high end expensive head units with boring features. Android all the way!
I have four questions I am struggling with.
1. I need a simple guide to root my device, I honestly have no idea what I am doing.
2. I want to know how to change read only system permissions to read/write permissions so I can add the red white radio apk and the no kill server apk as I tried to copy themover yesterday and they wouldnt copy due to read only permissions.
3. I noticed a user here has managed to change the SRC (source) order of applications to add pandora, spotify etc. My go to player has been VLC on the Joying due to my music library being close to 2tb, its the only app that doesent **** itself when scanning my hdd for folders/files.
I want to make my own list of SRC (source) apps I can scroll through. Is this possible for a noob?
4. Tom Tom App. Why doesent it work? I cant really find a nav app that runs well wothout internet connection. Tried a fair few. CoPilot I enjoyed the most but you need data at the start of your trip to calculate the trip.

I have had this unit for a couple of months now and all of a sudden the lcd just goes blank after a few minutes. If I swipe the screen it still goes to the next song so I know the touch functionality works…. I have a feeling the hardware is faulty. What is my next step
Fyi obviously I have checked the screen always on settings etc… they are set to on always.

The unit is in the title. Not the exact unit but that family… I am sure the issue I mentioned will be down to the same reason on any of these units

Very good. It is better to ask at many positions and see where you get the fastest answer.
I have seen your question more often and it always was something hardware related (till now)

No, sorry. I meant that it always was a hardware issue, but maybe yours is not. I do not have a solution. You can also look at the official forum.carjoying.com as your issue has been mentioned there as well by others, with the same outcome: hardware related.

Now its not coming on at all. Well at least I can still listen to music until this is sorted. My steering wheel controls still work lol.
I assume I get a year warranty with this damn thing?

Your sympthoms are like LCD hardware issue. I had same issue with my Rk3188 MTCD and i finlly had to take it back to china for replacement (mine was not joying).
Contact Joying and record video to send it to them to speed up the decision of sending it back
You are covered by warranty....but you will have to pay for the shipping to china

yes - i am already in talks with them.
they told me i have to get someone to solder the board. i told them that after 2 months I should not have to be soldering anything.
At the end of the day they should have a contact here in the UK who they can ask me to send it to who will solder the board.
if it is under warranty i shouldnt have to pay a damn thing. I dont care that their warranty says i am responsible for returning the item. i am pretty sure the law states that after 2 months for it to go faulty that is not a reasonable amount of tim and why should the buyer have to incur any fees or costs. Not to mention being without a damn stereo for a few weeks while its in bumblef**k.

Speaking of screens why not just attempt to acquire a better Touch screen using the same ribbon cable and upgrade it. I have been seriously considering it. Next time I'm in Shenzhen I will hunt one down. ?

Android 10 is for now the newest available firmware. Mostly all units wich are sold with Android 11 are fakes.

Ask the seller for updates, may be he has some.

Sometimes screen goes black,but music still plays,then i need to disconnect it from power to get screen back on

Do yourself a favor and install
Monitor the CPU temperature and if this goes up to 90°C you just have an overheating situation.
Check that for some time and report back if this is the reason.
In this case, have a look at the fix provided by @Ati_gangster in https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/fan-mod-px5-px6.4074933/

The "Like-button" would be nice.

By the way... If you open CPU monitor you have some buttons at the bottom.
There you can activate a floating temp overlay on your screen to monitor easier, even if you are in any other app.

2022 Fire HD 8 tablet - what options do i have for pure android only?

I've searched around the forums but not sure if I have any options here
I'm not impressed with the amazon experience, and want to install android with google family link so i can restrict it like i do with the kids android phones
I know I can probably get google play on it, but I'd rather just have android only and go from there
Is this a possibility? if so what are some stable roms to look at?
