Samsung Galaxy S10+ File Transfer In Windows 10 - Samsung Galaxy S10+ Questions & Answers

I recently connected my phone to my Windows 10 box and noticed that it was not appearing in My Files. Before this it was working normally.
I tried the different options on the phone and they all work ie (midi, transfer images, etc.) I checked the Device Manager and it shows a caution on the Samsung Mobile Composite Device only when file transfer is enabled on the phone. Doesnt show with any other option. I tested the device on another Windows 10 box and it works normally.
I have tried drivers, kies, smart switch, registry edits, uninstalling/reinstalling.
Can someone assist?

You have switched on USB Debugging in Developer options?

Yes I have tried that. I also tried to change the usb settings on the phone and everything works except for the data transfer.

I had the same issue a few months back. I updated Samsung's USB Driver after removing the previous version in the Device Manager on my laptop. I then used a different cable connecting my device to the laptop. Also make sure you have the most recent Windows 10 Update installed on your PC. Not sure which solved the problem but that did the trick.
Samsung Driver
https://samsungusbdriver.com/download/samsung-driver-v1-7-28-0

I have tried the drivers multiple times and it didnt help but I will try it again.
I have tried multiple cables and multiple ports.
Ill post an update once I try it again.
Thanks.

[Q] How to Transfer files to the 10.1 via Windows 7

Hi All,
I've tried everything, including the usb drivers from the root guide and installing the Samsung Kies Mini program, but I can't get Windows to recognize the memory on the device. I want to transfer some movies on the Galaxy and have not been able to figure it out.
When I run the Kies software it says "plug in your usb" and when I plug in the Galaxy nothing happens...
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
It should work by just plugging in the usb/connector cable. You don't need Kies (doesnt support the 10.1 anyway right now)
When your pc does not recognize your tab, something is fishy about your pc/ usb.
USB connection should work:
(Autoplay should pop up
Select open device to connect (GT-P7510)
Click on phone
Select directory to copy file to)
Sounds like a PC problem. (Look in device manager and see if your USB controllers are ok)
Looked at Device Manager, no issues under USB.
Comes up as an Android phone...
forget the cable...
try 'Samba Fileshare' app free from the Market.
Connect to your 10.1 over WiFi and send files to it via the shared folder it creates.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.funkyfresh.samba&feature=search_result
Worked fine for me without installing anything.
On another note, the Kies software does seem to somewhat support the 10.1 as it installed the required adb drivers when I chose it from the menu.
im having problems too.... for now I am using dropbox.
I have a shared folder on my PC and use ES File Explorer over Wifi, it's simple and works a treat. https://market.android.com/details?id=com.estrongs.android.pop&feature=search_result

I had to disable USB Debugging to get mine to pop up. Took me a while.
Oh thank God I am not the only one having this problem,,, i have tried every driver combo out there plus leaving USB debugging off and still i get nothing on my windows 7 machine. I have tried three different machines and all the same so it is not a computer issue i think it is a driver issue or a interface with the tab????
Interesting thing though is that I can push via ADB all day it that connects easy!!! WTF?????

Cannot Connect to PC AARGH!

Hi,
EDIT * I have found a solution in that I can connect via WI fi so that's pretty good but if anyone can help me with the USB issue, it would still be appreciated. It seems that the Wi Fi connection is more limited as I am unable to view things in explorer *
hoping to get some help using my USB to connect to my PC. I've installed Kies but when I try to connect to my PC it just keeps on trying to connect but never actually does it.
I have looked for guidance on this but keep coming across the instructions to go into 'about phone > USB settings' etc etc. However, I do not have a USB settings in about phone. In fact, there is nothing at all about USB in About Phone. I do have a 'USB Utilities' in Wireless and Networks but all that gives me the option to do is 'Connect Storage to PC'. I have a memory card in my phone.
When I do connect to the USB cable, with Kies open, when windows 'finds new hardware' it keeps saying a problem occurred during installation.
Please can anyone help me out? All I want to do is basically drag and drop some files from my PC to my phone. Thanks very much for your help.
Settings --> Applications -- Development --> USB debugging.
Thanks for that!
It got me a little further. I also unmounted then remounted the SD card. However, when I try to connect via kies I now get the message:
Reconnect the device in Samsung Kies (PC Studio) mode. Current connection mode not supported by Kies.
What am I doing wrong? Do I have to re click the USB settings on the phone before connecting to Kies now that it's installed the hardware on my PC?

Turn off USB-Debugging
Don't connect phone yet
Open Kies
Open the Tools menu -> Troubleshoot connection error
Go through the guide and let it reinstall the drivers.
Connect you phone, and let it connect
The default setting has the USB debugging tick greyed out. When I select it, it asks me if I want to allow debugging.
Do you mean that I shouldn't allow debugging and then connect (after reinstalling Kies) or should I allow it and connect? Sorry for my noobishness, Android is all completely new to me.
You should untick the USB-debugging - Then reinstall drivers NOT entire Kies
OK, it's unticked and I'm reinstalling the drivers via troubleshooting.
Do I need to unmount then remount the SD card before connecting my phone? Thanks for your help btw.
Shouldn't make a difference
Bah, I still have the same problem. It just says that there was a problem installing the hardware when I plugged in the phone.
After reinstalling the drivers, i shut down Kies then reopened it. I then plugged in the USB and then plugged the USB into my phone.
When I first installed Kies yesterday, Microsoft Active Sync kept on trying to activate and ask for a CD. It kept on holding up Kies. In the end I uninstalled Active Sync. Also, I still have Samsung PC Studio on my PC from when I had a Samsung a few years ago. It was one of those old slider phones, not a smart phone. Could that be part of the problem? I was hoping to keep it because it's proved to have the best media player I've ever had.
I just don't know what I'm doing wrong here.
Try without restarting Kies.
What part of the drivers aren't installed? (Check device manager)
In Device Manager, under Portable Devices there's something called Android MTP that has an exclamation mark next to it. It says it's not configured correctly and that 'No driver files are required or have been loaded for this device'. I'll reinstall the Kies drivers now.
Thanks for this help mljjlm
P.S. Now that I've unplugged the phone, the MTP thing isn't showing in the device manager list anymore.

Of course, it's a part of the phone, and it should not be plugged in because they would have to force a reboot when reinstalling drivers (which might sort your problem btw)
Reinstalled the Kies Drivers and then plugged in my phone but got the same problem. It says a problem occurred. Same device now has a problem in device manager. Maybe I should just uninstall everything and restart? Should I uninstall the old PC studio too?
Just try the reboot without uninstalling anything and then plug the phone in when your pc has booted
Argh! Still didn't work! I think there must be a problem with my PC, well, I'll try doing full uninstalls and reinstall it all. I have to go now as well so I'll have to try again tomorrow.
Thanks very much for your patience mljjlm. It has been greatly appreciated
Are you trying to just transfer files back and forth? If so... forget using Kies.
(I don't have a micro-USB cable with me currently, so this is all from memory)
Just remove the drivers from your device manager so it's like your machine has never seen your phone before. Then on your phone enable usb-debugging.
When you then plug in your phone, you should get a usb icon up top on your phone's display... pull the window-shade down and click on the USB connection button. You should get a fullscreen window on your phone that says something like USB Connection with the friendly android waiving.
Now your PC should see your phone as a standard USB mass storage device.
try plugging the usb cable in another usb port on your computer and than try again.

You're using Kies, that's what you're doing wrong. You said in your very first post you wanted to be able to drag and drop some files from your PC to your phone, so use USB debugging (say yes when it asks you) and Windows Explorer.
If you are using a custom rom like Checkrom Revolution you will need to install the kies support from kitchen pro.
Also are you using the cable that came with your phone?
I have found a few microUSB cables that will allow charge and wont allow data transfer like the new ones for nokia devices and some blackberrys.
It worked! The USB debugging thing!
Thanks to everyone who helped me out. The forum said I was limited to 5 thanks per day so if you didn't get one of the thanks I apologise. Thanks very much!

[Q] issues connecting to PC viia USB

Hi, I am having issues when connecting galaxy s5 to PC via USB. I am using rooted (Philz recovery) stock ROM (KK 4.4.2) on phone, and Windows 8.1 enterprise on PC. I was able to connect galaxy s3 just by plugging USB. PC loaded drivers and was able to transfer files no prob. However, tried with s5, PC seems to load drivers as normal, makes audible connection sound but is not showing in windows explorer. I've checked quite a few posts and the general consensus is a missing driver (been to Samsung site and Sammobile to try and find drivers to work, nothing. Samsung just point to 'Kies' and Sammobile just have Firmware), however, windows 8.1 finds and installs latest drivers automatically anyway. I've deleted and re-installed drivers via device manager on PC, checked for hardware changes and updated drivers etc. The PC recognizes the phone as Samsung device in device manager list, makes connection sound plugged and unplugged, even charges the phone while plugged in, but doesn't show in windows explorer to be able to transfer files. I tried USB 3.0 and 2.0. looked on net , found lots of people with similar probs re:s3 and s4, but nothing for s5 yet. Again though, it seems to be missing driver, however, as all drivers are updated/latest, i'm lost as to where to go now. Can anybody be good enough to point me in the right direction please? Thanks in advance. by the way, have also rebooted phone and PC end tried again, no difference, used different leads/connectors, tried MTP, PTP, USB 3.0 modes on phone connection settings blah blah bblah
If anybody knows where I might be able to get a driver that works, would be good, or any other possible solutions would be helpful. Am going to try via Wi-Fi using ES explorer but would prefer to use USB 3.0 as quicker for large files.
Again, thanks in advance for any suggestions.

USB storage not showing up in windows

Anyone else with problems seeing the storage after plugging into PC? adb command works and device drivers installed. Found another forum where turning the usb from MTP to charging and back under developer options does the trick. I have a non stock ROM and seeing if fresh out of the box experiences the same thing.
I have the same issue and can't seem to figure out how to get it to work. My work around has been to use ES File Explorer and open Remote Manager.
Edit: I just plugged it in again to see what I can find. I turned off USB Debugging and Developer Options. Plugged in and pulled the notification bar down, there is an option to change USB Settings to Charging, Power Supply, File Transfers (this works), Photo Transfer and MIDI. Give it a go!

I am running to the exact same problem.
I have tried with USB Debugging off AND on, still no go. I think there's a problem with installing the drivers. Whenever I check the device manager, it still says the drivers weren't installed. I have tried installing the Google drivers. What do we do?!

Need to get the drivers to install first and foremost. Even with USB Debugging on, I'm still able to pull down and change from charge only. Those drivers are key. I had to restart my computer before it was able to take the install.

I'm able to get to the pulldown and change the setting from charging to MTP. Every time I do that, I get a window showing that I'm installing the drivers for Nexus 6P. Then it completes. I can do this over and over again. In the device manager, there's a little exclamation mark by the Nexus 6P and says these drivers weren't installed Code 28. I have exhausted Google to no avail!
Anyone find a solution to this?

You chose to install the drivers manually instead of having the system do it for you? Right click the yellow exclamation .. update drivers .. allow me to pick .. choose the download file location see what that gives you.

When I choose the location, I see a bunch of options. The most relevant ones are ADB Interface and Android Device. Under Android Device there are several more options such as Android Adapter Interface, Android Bootloader Interface, and the such; no mention of MTP.

Should just be able to choose the android_winusb.inf driver. It should allow MTP

So when you change the option in the phone from charging to file transfer, did you check the device manager to see if there any unknown device showing somewhere?

Changing it from charging to MTP shows a MTP device in Manager with a yellow exclamation mark next to it. When looking into the details, it says that no drivers are installed. When I try "Updating Drivers", it says "Windows failed to install drivers. Code 28" or something along those lines. Code 28 MEANS that Windows failed to install drivers.
Thanks for nothing Microsoft.
Nexus 6p Connection to PC Issue - This Helped!
I had similar problems with PC not recognising my Device. I found http://www.technobuzz.net/install-google-nexus-6p-usb-drivers/ which helped me solve my issues.
1. Downloaded and installed the Huawei Nexus 6p drivers. This installed a Huawei Task Manager which connection to pair was still not recognisable.
2. Deleted old drivers (acer, samsung, htc) from' Device Manager'. This actually helped PC recognise my device which showed up in the Device Manager>Other Devices>Nexus 6p, also in PC interface but once moved off charging to MTP, computer didnt recognise device.
3. Downloaded and installed the adb/fastboot installer. Followed instructions till step 10. My screen didn't show anything like Andoid ADB interface, it displayed MTP file install, which I installed. Just remember to refresh in My PC interface when changing over from charging to MTP, sometimes Nexus 6p will be hidden.
4. Uninstalled the Huawie Task Manager.
This has solved my problem with PC and Device connection. The instructions given are from what I can recall of the process I went through.
Credit to Sidharth Rathore from Technobuzz for this solution.
Hope this helps.
Later.
p.s. I have a windows 10 laptop if this helps.

I was having the same issue until I uninstalled some other debugging drivers I had installed. So I would recommend crawling through your installed apps for any other android usb drivers and uninstalling them if you still have this issue.
Working on mine right now. Found that USB 3.0 ports will not recognize device. Once plugged into a 2.0, it is recognized. Might help your issue

OP6T computer connection

When I plug my 6T into the computer (runs windows 10) it comes up what to do with OnePlus device. I install the drivers and nothing happens. I've uninstalled all possible drivers connected to the device and reinstalled, I've installed drivers from various sources but nothing is working.
I can't access the storage on my device from the computer and click and drag from the phone to the computer and vice versa. I've went into developer options and clicked file transfer as well but every time I connect to the computer it just prompts me to install drivers which never work.
Any help will be great thanks.
