Help with kit kat update

ok so I purchased a note 3 recently from a friend and I am at the dreaded 27% install issue people are having for kitkat.
The phone does say custom upon starting with the open pad lock, upon checking a root checker app it seems the phone is not rooted.
I is a att phone, does this means it is unlocked? it also says under version 4.3 so i dont think its a custom rom?
My main question is, if I take this phone to bestbuy to a samsung hub will they update it for me to kitkat even with the padlock open on my startup screen?
Please keep in mind im totally new to android so any help will be appreciated! thank you!
really would just like to get the update hassle free!

Keep warranty while using afwall+?

Hey guys!
I'm getting my LG G6 tomorrow (H873).
Normally, I install TWRP right away when I get a new phone and flash a custom rom, but I would like to try the LG rom (Always had a samsung before, right now Galaxy S5).
I don't think it's possible but, is there some kind of firewall I can use without rooting?
If not, can I keep the original rom after I installed TWRP and flashed Magisk?
I think I won't be able to receive OTA updates after, but from what I heard, LG do only major version update (so android 8.0 next)
What do you think?
I'm mainly afraid of unlocking the bootloader and getting a lemon...
Thanks for your thoughts!
On your H873?
Let me know if you manage to root it.

You won't be unlocking the bootloader on our H873 devices anytime soon.
We don't have official LG support so until someone cracks the bootloader we will not have root.

Best Way to Prepare A Rooted S8 For Selling

Hallo everyone, I need your opinion/advice/experience on this.
It's time to sell my S8, but I rooted it! Most of us know what that means.
I want the buyer to have the best experience possible and him to be happy with the device.
I just don't know what to do...!
First Method: Flash Stock via odin. But then doesn't he get like warning massages from S Health or so that his device is been tempered with? And still no OTA... maybe even other downsides I can't think of right know or I even don't know.
Second Method: Flash a custom rom that is fairly stock. Now he can use S Health and such, but what about Apps that detect root like banking? I imagine he want's to open his banking app or whatever and a massage pops up saying this doesn't run on rooted devices. Still no OTA and I'm afraid that maybe that version of custom rom would have a nasty bug that I don't notice and him or her having trouble again...
So yeah I really don't know what's the best. Maybe you guys sold old devices that had been rooted. How did you do it? What would you recommend?
Thx everyone :fingers-crossed:
