Hey all
My setup: twrp, magisk, lineageos 16,
I see that Google installed its Bluetooth contact tracing app or system or whatever it is called on my op5 without my consent.
Other than completely removing Google services from my device, is there a way to remove that contact tracing component from my op5?
When I disable Bluetooth in the settings, does it completely disable it, or does Google or any other applications have a way to bypass the disable and keep using it?
Does this disabling of other sensors (WiFi network gps) apply as well, can be bypassed by Google or other applications?
Regards

Google doesn't need your consent, because it is not your device. It theirs, if you have Gapps installed. And yes, Google is able to manipulate gps/bluetooth/wifi also without your 'consent'. It is simple: no Gapps, you control the device; yes Gapps, Google controls it.

If you mean the COVID Bluetooth tracing, that is only active if your country's government is cooperating with Apple+Google for this. You'd need to install your government's app to activate that feature, otherwise it is disabled.

That is not true. If that would be true, Google would be dead by EU laws already.

It is true. EU privacy laws don't deal with the way Google manages your device, only with consent regarding user data.
If you have Google Services, Google is the administrator of your device: it can delete/install anything it wants to without your consent, which by the way, you have already provided by installing Google Services.
Thank you guys for your responses.
I am talking about the covid Bluetooth activation.

Hi all,
I have a question regarding the new app permission management in Marshmallow 6.0.1. In Lollipop (5.1.1) we used to have the option to prevent an app from waking up the device or keeping it awake. I used to uncheck that box for Google Play services as this was constantly running and eating up my battery. When I go through the new extended Marshmallow app management, I get several options that i can allow or deny (body sensors, calendars, camera, contacts, location, etc. see attached screenshot). But nowhere can I find the option to prevent the app/service from waking up or keeping the device awake.
Anyone know where I can find this or how to do this in Marshmallow?

What I can find in the Play Store is Package Disabler Pro (Samsung). From the description and the screenshots I see you can enable/disable apps/services. I can do that already with Titanium Backup. But I can't disable the Google Play services, I just want to keep them from waking up the device, or keeping it awake while screen is off.

Yes but with Package Disabler Pro for Samsung you can do things, that you can't with TTB, in one word it's more powerful

TB does what it needs to do for me, as I'm not looking for anything beyond what it can do. Just freeze apps/services I don't use and every once in a while a backup. I just need something good that can prevent an app from waking up device, just like the basic functionality we had in Lollipop in the app management section.

As far as I can tell, the doze feature is supposed to be in charge of preventing wakelocks and keep your phone from staying awake. So Google probably thought that denying the stay awake permission isn't needed anymore. Tbh, it denying 'stay awake' in app permissions in previous builds on android didn't do much for battery life, at least for me. Some things you could try is cleaning google play services data, and deleting google now if you dont use it.

You did not understand me either! What I've said is that Package Disabler Pro not only can prevent app from waking up the phone, but can prevent such app from updated by Google play service.
I also maintain that Package Disabler Pro is more powerful than TTB in terms of preventing an app from doing anything even operating in the background.

@Bhavpreet I think for me it did quite the thing. Before I disabled apps/services I didn't need I saw Google Play Services popping up in the battery stats a lot. Once I hit the switch and didn't allow the service to wake up the phone or keep it awake, it disappeared from the battery stats.
Currently, from what I can see in the battery stats, the play service is running 4 things:
- Google Service Framework
- Google Play Services
- Google Backup Transport
- Google Account Manager
I have the backup to cloud enabled for contacts/notes/etc. Which one of the above is safe to freeze without interfering in that process?
@zizon65 Are you talking about freezing/disabling an app? Or only stopping it from waking up the device, but leaving the service/app intact for when you manually open it?
@OneTruth it could be achieved by using xposed for the module appopsxposed though I only tested it under cm13 on another phone

He does not want to disable it, he just wants to stop it from waking the device. Disabling google play services effectively transforms your device into a dumb phone, whats the point?

You wont be able to remove any of those 4 services without breaking google play services as a whole afaik. I don't even use google for my backup account, but i still have backup transport eating at my battery. Google Services, on average, uses 1-4% of my battery, usually on the lower end. Like I said, clear its data and cache, give it a restart, and see if that helps. I also recommend turning off auto update in the playstore, and deleting google now data and app and reinstalling it.
Last option, and this will definitely work considering you upgraded, factory reset the device.
Also, PDP disables apps, meaning it completely gets rid of them from your device until theyre enabled again, which is not a solution to your problem.
@Bhavpreet How com this was possible in Lollipop without breaking anything? Everything was running perfectly for me, without Google Play Services ever showing up in the battery stats. So I won't be factory resetting. Clearing cache already did that, no result. Will try out @Zenroid solution.
I think this is doing the trick. Will post back with results after the next full charge.

Anyone else notice that Google Play Services is regularly using GPS location, even when you have no app open? Why? Is it Google, OnePlus, or some rogue app? How can I find out who is tracking me?
I get the same thing also.
Even when my phone is not being used I see the notification pop up and wake up the phone.
FYI, I think it may be the Google app*. I've disabled it and I have yet to see this happen. Will update if I learn more.
Disabling that app means you can't use Google's smart assistant or quick search features... but I don't care for those anyway.
*The app that is literally called Google.
Play Services checks GPS on a regular basis and then feeds that info to other apps when they request it.
Just disable the notification.

Maybe you are okay with an app constantly pinging your GPS. I'm not... especially when I don't know what app is doing it.
Update on disabling the Google app: I have yet to see Google Play services using GPS after I disabled the Google app. As an added bonus, battery use by Google Play services is down, whereas it typically is in the top 3.
I get this too. It's most likely related to Location History.

Hi Xda !
I will receive my op6t on tuesday.
I already like the phone for his specs, and the os seems to be near to a pure os (light and fast).
The only thing is irritating me is all the apps you can't uninstall as the google suit (duo, chrome, youtube and so on).
What is the best solution to remove or completly disable those apps ? (i mean uninstall or at least disable apps icon/hidde it from the app list)
If root is the only one solution which method is the most simple one ? and the less risky from brick ?
Last one, after doing this am i able to do roms updates from official source without any problem ?
I'm under linux (debian) or can have a mac but no windows
Thanks for your time and answers.
You can simply disable the apps with no problem (no root required), and you will still receive updates.

You should be able to disable most apps without any issue. I've disabled Google Play Music, Movies and Gmail without any problems.
I think disabling is not only safer than uninstalling, but easier as as well!
Hi all!
I'm writing here to see if someone has any idea, it seems I'm not able to understand the reason.
I setup Google Pay on my OnePlus 5 and it was working perfectly, up until some days ago. Now when I put the phone close to the POS, nothing happens, even if I open the Google Pay app before placing the phone near the terminal.
I performed a factory reset of the phone, after that, Google Pay started working again, but then, after a few hours, it just stopped with the same exact behavior, meanwhile I had restored the backup of most of my apps.
I again performed a factory reset, Google Pay started working properly, then slowly started re-installing and re-configuring my apps, constantly testing if Google Pay was working (luckily I found out how to "test" if Google Pay is working without having to buy something*), everything was working properly, but then, apparently without reason, Google Pay stopped working again in the exact same way.
I pinpointed the problem down to Google Pay and not generically to NFC, because Android Beam and other NFC apps are working perfectly. I also tried an app from Visa that emulates a credit card for test purposes (Visa Mobile CDET), this app replaces Google Pay as Tap&Pay provider and when I test the NFC payment with that app set as default, it works, the test card is sent over to the receiving terminal. As soon as I change the default Tap&Pay to Google Pay, nothing happens anymore.
Some additional info: my OnePlus 5 has never been rooted, it is up to date with the latest firmware (OxygenOS 9.0.6). Google Pay is version: 2.90.250604638
Is anyone experiencing the same issue?
thanks a lot!

and now Google Pay is working again.
I guess this means there was a bug introduced on the latest version or something like that, it's difficult to say without a changelog
At least this explains the random behavior, Play Services libraries are probably updated in background automatically.
thanks for the hint! Now I have to make sure Play Services libraries won't update automatically and I probably need to monitor new releases as I don't want to stick with an old version forever.
Opened a ticket on the google issue tracker: https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/135132389 please "star" it and add your comments, we need to understand if this is just a OnePlus issue.
Opened a ticket on OnePlus forum: https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/...-5-after-google-play-services-update.1053102/
Possible workaround, however not very straightforward and comfortable, but could be useful to troubleshoot:
- Install Visa Mobile CDET app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.visa.app.cdet&hl=en
- set it as default Tap&Pay app
- as "Use default" option, select "Except when another payment app is open"
- open Google Pay app and keep it in foreground
- pay with Google Pay

From what I understand, it emulates different types/technologies of contactless cards, so merchants can be sure their POSs are compatible with that type/technology of cards.
It should be "safe".
I tried the workaround, and I can confirm it works.
Now we just have to organize a meeting in Bologna, the issue seems to be here

Exactly, the app itself is not useful to us, but it lets you change Tap&Pay default to another app that is not Google Pay and this seems to be unlocking Google Pay for some reason.

Which Google Play Services and Google Pay version? Thanks
Hello everyone. Finally I found someone else with this problem! Since may/june 2019 I'm having this strange issue of Google Pay not working anymore. I've been in contact with Google and OnePlus, they reflashed OxygenOS but nothing solved the problem. Google Play Services is now updated to the version 19.4.20, but Google Pay and other NFC apps still don't work. The strange thing is that some NFC apps work properly, other do not work at all... Just like Google Pay. In the meantime, did someone found a stable solution? Thank you all.
Hello Frank!
the only workaround is the one described above, unfortunately, no solution is offered, but it seems it's some kind of compatibility issue with other nfc apps.
for example, andreacos92 realized that after a factory reset, Google pay works properly, but the moment he installed Muver (an Italian nfc app to use mobile bus tickets) and after the first reboot, Google pay stops working, even uninstall ing Muver will leave Google pay broken, the only solution is another factory reset.
any chance you're also using that app? Or perhaps another one using nfc?
Hello all,
I use a dutch bank-app for wireless nfc payments (ASN betalen). It worked fine on my Nokia 7 plus, but it doesn't on the Mi 9t (MIUI 11.03.0). The app says that there are apps active that control displaybrightness and I have to turn those off otherwise it won't work. Then it directs to the 'display over other apps' settings, where the payment-app isn't listed. NFC itself works, I could pay with it until I had to use my fingerprint or pincode for verification. The app doesn't show then, so I can't give any verification.
I disabled automatic brightness and disallowed all the apps at 'display over other apps' (the payment app isn't there). I reinstalled the app several times, I gave the payment-app all the possible permissions, but it still doesn't work.
Does anybody please have some ideas I could try?
Try uninstalling all apps but the bank app.

It's set to the wallet of my simcard. But I don't think that's the issue. NFC works, I even managed to pay with it. The app just doesn't show when I need to use a pincode or fingerprint for verification.

First disable fingerprint & MI Security overlay & automatic brightness. Check: NFC on, HCE Wallet, default app "Betalen".
Then open your payment app (ASN Betalen) before you hold the top of your phone (MI 9) to the terminal.
It should work.
Now you can try to able fingerprint and other overlay apps (Mi security and/or brightness). Or don't change if it works
