I read that enabling the "Force GPU Rendering " in the developer options would increase the speed of apps. I so I gave it a try and it has definitely increased the overall smoothness for me. I also what to add that it may cause some apps to force close but the only issue I noticed so far is launcher pro not displaying properly. I just switched to adw ex so that is no longer an issue. I opera, browser and tapatalk seem to be faster. It also seems to have an impact on the YouTube app. Hopefully this info helps some people out.
I didn't come across this yet in the xoom forum so I thought it I would share. Sorry if it is common knowledge.

Hey guys I noticed earlier that my Netflix app was ALOT smoother than it used to be before the ICS update but several others disagreed with me so I was confused. Then I remembered that I enabled this setting in the developer options menu in the android settings, "Force GPU Rendering". Make sure you enable that, close Netflix and start it back up and it should be a million times smoother after you do that. Hope this helps.

I had tried it and thought that there was an improvement in smoothness, but it seems that as you say, it can break some applications. But thanks for the reminder.
Enabling this preference in developer options offloads task of rendering window components like buttons, text and complex 2d graphics calculations to GPU. This often results in much faster UI rendering including animations.
On one side you will definitely achieve better frame rate (and hence smooth experience) throughout system, but you may end up using more battery. On certain devices, GPU consumes more power the CPU, hence you may observe 5-15% lower battery life with option enabled.
offloading UI rendering to GPU has obvious benefits so that CPU can work on other important tasks like database IO, data manipulation, layout calculations and responding to other user inputs.
I would recommend having this option enabled on devices with weaker CPUs e.g. You should seldom need to enable this on dual-core 1.4ghz ARM CPU.

I finally gave up GPU rendering as it crash the tab many times. Ie google maps hang the tab after 10-15 min time of usage to such extend that it bootlooped over and over till battery is dead. Also browsing web cause same crashes. If you face many random crashes-you know what to do.

My S-Pen is laggy when I choose "Force GPU Rendering" enabled in Developer options. anyone can fix this? thx
i didn't try s-pen without forcing gpu rendering but I could tell that s-pen in ics is very laggy compared to gb roms....don't know why
same here:
with "Force GPU Rendering" it lags sometimes while annotating pictures forme the gallery (after i clear my RAM it works most of the time)
SMemo and everthing else works fine
On LPF, my S Pen is just as good, if not better than it was on GB.
The whole touch ui is faster and more responsive, so it may not necessarily be that the SPen itself is working better, but that it is a better experience due to the whole system being more responsive.
[edit] and I have force gpu rendering enabled also [/edit]

Yep I can confirm this issue on my end. However what is the purpose of forcing 2D GPU rendering?
Otherwise the spen is buttery smooth for me in ICS along with the increased system performance.
Because, i guess, the CPU is faster than GPU at some rendering jobs.
The option is for old applications (not build for ICS) to use HW acceleration for displaying ui elements and animations. I think that SNote/Smemo is using some OS functions to draw to the screen that are faster in software mode than GPU assisted.
The only good thing to have this option enabled is that when you scroll a big list the CPU is capped at 500 MHz otherwise it would scale to 1400MHz, so, from here, there are some battery savings, this is my observation.
Not sure what to tell.. but many people know that Galaxy S II with CM10 (currently using 21. september nightly) uses around 35% in idle of CPU power.. just 5 apps installed.. same with HW composing disabled. and same with force 2D GPU rendering checked
While. samsung one rom does use in idle around 3-12% of CPU usage with force gpu 2D rendering checked
Games are smoother on samsung than on cyanogen (both are running siyah kernel 4.1.5 with oc at 1.6 + GPU 400 + touch boost to 400 (step4)
example games: GTA III, Gangstar Rio
Why?
Not sure what is bottleneck... if fsync (really don't messed with it)
or memory bandwith,I/O,GPU, or cpu
during Gangstar RIO..
cpu runs with both cores around 65% and game lags during driving..
GPU can't tell.. as MaliStats reports bad value (400MHz 1100mV 100,1% ) all the time
Any known fix for these lags and cpu usage?
Gangstar rio is less laggy when HW composing disabled..
Because the HWcomposer isn't working correctly in CM10 so you have lags in games.
CPU takes all the load in 3D games on CM10.
BTW this question should be in CM10 thread.
HW composer still doesn't work? it is much smoother than it was before 3 weeks
now animations are smooth while before.. they were laggy as hell

This don't mean nothing, simply they work to optimize in a better way their rom.

ERROR! You are testing both roms with a "custom kernel"(siyah).
Ask in Siyah thread.

HWComposer is not working fully, CPU is doing all the graphics works. You see smoothness due to other improvements and the Dual core CPU that's inside.
UC to 200Mhz and try scrolling, you'll see lags which you won't see if HWComposer is working correctly.
Hw composer is an issue, but sensor polling is another one, never resolved in cm builds, coming from cm7 days.
I tried contacting several developers, but none seemed to see or wanted to work on the problem.
While idling, sensors use +- 10% cpu on any CM based rom (at 200mhz), while on Samsung based the usage is +- 2% idling while screen is on, same conditions. Android system process is to blame, and inside the process sensors threads are the ones sucking cpu. Disabling sensors (autororate, light, gps) did not help to reduce the problem in my case. Using different kernels did not help either...
Had to live with the issue at this point...

Do You do similar comparison stock VS CM9?
Yes.. that sensor polling really uses a lot of power.. mainly compass one!
Thank's everyone.. usic Changmin vsync builds with dorinmax + 520MHz works good

Hi everybody im new user from Xperia Sp and i just play this games: turbo racing, dead tour, shiny, sailboat, epic citadel, this games sometimes are laggy and slow i dont know what? but tired of see a possible solution i found this!
the games no are optimized for processor at 1.7GHz dual core, so this is my solution for the "little lag"
i download this app called "no-frills cpu control" this app is free on Google Play
then i underclock the cpu to 1.5Ghz, because the most smartphone with Adreno 320 use a processor at 1.5Ghz, then put the "gobernor perfomance" and use "epic citadel" before in the SP result are 54.6, then later this changes the result is: 59.6, is a big change and so much perfomance for our adreno 320, and finally try all games again and the "little lag" dissapear!
this is my contribution for this "littles troubles"
Downgrading Processor speed will not affect other process?? Just a doubt only.. And i agree about Performance Governor...
Need some more advice about downgrading CPU speed.. I am a big gamer.. So doing this can i lost my other performance speed..?
Changing governor to performance destroys the battery life because the processor will just run at the maximum frequency 100% of the time
I always use Interactive. Seems better to me. Doesn't hog CPUs if not necessary.
ram
i just use ram manager pro.
no need overclocking or underclocking. it gives better ram optimisation for all ur background app also.

Hello everyone. I have started playing pubg mobile on my s7 edge exynos version and the performance is soo bad. I get like 20fps and the game lags so badly even with around 100ms ping. Someone told me to root my phone and use gltools to optimize the game by setting fake gpu as adreno 630 would fix the frame lag issue. I did so but still there's no significant changes. I know my device might be pretty old for a game like this but i feel bad when i see a less config phone performs better than this. This is my only priority right now to play pubg smoothly. Is there any way i can make the performance better?
Thing that i have tried so far: game tools, performance mode, changing up the resolutions, editing UserCustom.ini with loads of codes provided in various youtubers, turned on 4x MSAA but nothing could give the smooth 60fps gameplay.*
As i am noob about all the kernel thing and overclocking gpu or cpu, will anyone be kind enough to give me a proper solution for better gaming experience? Thanks.
Nah. It should play fine. I'm thinking you should look into connection latency as well. Even a high end gaming rig PC would stutter on PUBG at 20FPS if internet connrction latency is bad. Latency has nothing to do with internet speed. Even if your speed is high, but the connection between your phone and the server goes through a lot of hoops like VPNs, ISP rerouting, etc, latency will be wacky.
There's also the issue of battery age. The phone is about 2yrs old. The battery may have aged and is full of dendrites so it's not giving max power anymore. So even if you set it ti max performance, the battery may not be giving enough power to play it fully.

Would changing the battery help? And i am from Bangladesh, and whichever connection i use, it never goes below 100ms.
100ms latency for a shooting game is pretty bad IMO. Could spell life and death.
Changing the battery will help only if the battery is part of the problem. Right now I don't know for sure.

Use pubg gfx tool from play store
Man, i play pubg in high quality with no lag.
First, install tgp rom with tgp kernel in these advanced settings:
Big: interactive. 2184ghz max/728ghz min.
Little: interactive. 1586ghz max/422ghz min.
Fiops/fiops/bic.
Then install PUBG ANTI LAG and set: graphics balanced - style classic - resolution 1280x720 - fps 60 - shadows disabled - antialising disabled. And set the config.

Same for me, lags, bad fps, 30 or below. settings fake gpu to 630 might bump up graphics settings and cause more lag. so dont do that.

Just a little underclock, but you dont have to do that. I just did because pubg heats my phone. I forgot to say to install game tunner and disable game launcher

60fps, game tunner is very good
Yeah I forgot to mention game tuner. It's the tool to properly adjust resolution, fps, and performance allocation on Samsung ROMs.

I had the same problem with my samsung g9350 but I finally fixed it.
Game tuner , Put HW Performance to +3, +4 would drain too much of your battery, this would make sure that your phone is getting enough GPU, frame rate limit to 60 fps, resolution is 75% while im using HD Resolution on game mode just for the Game tools, I haven't tried increasing the resolution yet, im fine with HD for battery purposes.
I have Govtuner set on battery mode, L Speed on Battery Mode, This is just to counter the heating issues caused by HW Performance.
GL tools so I can use MSA 16x, force 16bit rendering, Optimize GLSL Shaders and of course FPS counter.
Firefds Kit from Xposed just so I could disable Touchwiz DVFS. <== This right here is the cause of our problems.
When I play solo or duo, i get 60 fps, since you faked your GPU, you can use Extreme Settings in pubgmobile which limits the cap to 60.
And I just adjust accordingly, like when I play team, sometimes my fps wouldn't reach 60, I lower it to Ultra(40 fps max) or high(30 fps max).
on 80 battery, i get like 4, 20-30 mins games, the device doesn't heat up and is smooth. Hope it helps, I was just like you once, doing everything just to have fun playing Pubg mobile.
Hello. All I can say is that the gpu exynos is not good for the game I have the Qualcomm version and without any change or third application I easily get the 28 fps with the default settings.
Hello bro
I use a tgbkernel and i get awesome performance in samsung galaxy s7 edge exynos, i m playing pubg seance season 6 and i m happie for my phone ?dost use useless apps in phone thank You
Hi bro if you still using the device, how much FPS you get after the new update. Do you use GFXTool?

100ms latency is ok IMO. If you're a good gamer, you could get away with even 200-300ms latency.
