Hello Experts,
I received a new nexus 4 and noticed that it takes around 3.5 to 4 hrs for complete charging from 5% to 100%.... is it normal? my other sony xperia seems to be charge in about 1..5 hr
since i am new to Nexus 4, not sure what is the avg charge time and should i call for RMA? Please let me know what is the avg time for charging.
thx
Ganu
Perfectly normal. You want a nice slow steady charge, especially in a sealed phone. The battery needs to last as long as possible. Fast charging batteries significantly reduces their lifespan. My old Nexus S takes the same amount of time to charge from 5%.. 3-4hrs or so give or take.. I still have the two year old original battery and it holds a charge just as well as it did the day I bought it. Meanwhile my 15 minute charge AA batteries I bought last year lose their charge in a week just sitting on the desk.
Mine is just about the same, but that's under use. If I don't touch the phone, it typically charges to 100% in about an hour.
And if it's through USB.. um.. more like 8 hours to fully charge.
Battery widget reborn (awesome app btw) says my phone usually charges in about 2.5 hours. This is on Qi though not sure about the regular wall charger.
2-2.5 hours for me on usb wall charger and Qi Orb.

From 2 hr 45 min (from around 12-15% juice left), my charge time has reached to 3 hr 30 mins now (i.e. from 1% juice left)... 14% juice wouldn't make such a huge difference so don't really know why it increased..

yes, this is one of the reasons i started this thread to understand what everyone is experiencing.... i called up the google customer support and they are ready to send in a RMA as it appears to be a higher side...
so let me know your thoughts guys...should 3.5 hrs charge time considered high and warrant a RMA? share your thoughts.
^ Hmmm.. I doubt if this would mean anything serious or worth RMA-ing. I can but I won't RMA my device because it's been exceptional so far. I am fairly happy with it and wouldn't want to get it replaced with a defected one.
Its perfectly normal especially from around 5% to 100%.. In my experience if you dont let it get below 20% it usually charges faster. I wouldnt RMA it especially if your phone is perfectly fine in other aspects.
I tried with a different charger yesterday and it took similar time. The charger has same voltage input levels.
You charge 3 hours, for only double the lifetime. How pathetic, actually. I didn't thought that the battery life would be that bad. I can hardly make trough 1 day, if I play some games, make some calls, and use a little bit of internet. On the last charge I got 4Hours of screen on time with 15% left.
Gosh, at least it's fun to use it. :/
To power up, you consume Red Bull. But your phone just needs its adaptive fast charger. Rate this thread to express how quickly the Note5 can charge. A higher rating indicates that it charges extremely fast.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Phone isint charging past 1000 mA on stock cable. However using one from PS4 is giving full 1800-2000 mA! Did I get a faulty cable by any chance ? N920C
This is the fastest charging phone ever! During the days where I use the phone heavily, it will drop to about 15-20% around 4 PM, my day starts at 5 AM. That's when I unplug my phone also. So great battery life for me. It will charge from 10% to 100% in about 1 hr or just slightly more. Can't complain about it, it a great feature.
lol just plug my phone in, went to starbucks come back at 80% from 39% in around 30-40 min
I got the phone down to 1% and it took 1 hour 36 mins to charge to 100%

Just switch the cable, had that problem.
The cable that i got with the phone is garbage, any other one will do the trick.
Charges as fast or faster than my S6 did, which is awesome since the battery is bigger. IF I use it heavily throughout the day and get it below 50% I'll throw it on the fast charger (wired) while doing dishes or something and I get almost 2%/min. 10 minutes will get me almost 20% more battery and I'm golden for the rest of the day with heavy use (CoC attacks all night lol)

1h 10min or 1h 20mins fully charged everytime.
Wireless Fast Charger
Got 2 wireless chargers. 1 from Costco when i got the note 5 and the other when i activated samsung pay. Sold them both for 20 each and bought the fast charger. Less sensitive when looking for that "sweet spot" and seems to charge just as fast as factory cable. About an hour and twenty minutes to charge fully. Battery lasts pretty good on stock even before using package disabler pro.
A little over an hour here for me for a full charge.
charging speed is very fast. from 20% in just few minutes charged goes up to 50%. from drained battery to full charge takes about 1 hour and 20 mins. looking for suggestions for good power bank with wireless charging capability for this phone.
awesome speed
Deep sleep issue
1 hour 13 min

The Pleson wireless fast charge that I bought on Amazon for 18 dollars charges my phone in a little less than 75 minutes from 5% to 100%.. The phone does get a little hot though.
You guys talk about charging time while Fast Charge features enabled.
How about normal charge ?
I was disabled fast charge feature and tried to plug my phone to my charge. It took me more than 4 hours to fully charged from 15% of battery.
why waste time with regular charging when it takes 1hr 11 min to 100% from 15%....charging with phone off.
if you charge while on the phone is on & continually updating social media, email, stocks/bonds/financial, it'll take a long time, if you ever see 100%.
I don't fully deplete my battery anymore, since it's not replaceable. When I had the note 3 with another spare battery and usb 3.0 wire charger I got it down it like 10% than charge. Life is a little different on the note 5. I have to charge my phone while at work, at least once a day sometimes 2 times if I'm heavily using my phone. Just the combination of bad 3g service here at work and Really good 4G LTE service, in certain areas, brings my battery performance down. But no problem, I have fast wired charger, from 20% to 100% in about 1 hour and 10 mins while the phone is on and even faster with the phone off. At home, I have fast wireless charger which I use, right before I sleep when I don't need a fast charge. A little slower than the fast wired charger, but 20% to 100% in 1 hour and 30 mins. I also have a non fast wireless charger but it's sort of useless. It only works will with my brother's s6 and now his s7.
How long does it take for you to fully charge your S7 edge from say about 5 or 10%?
Mine is saying 1hr 30 mins and my battery currently on 10%.. is that about right? Im using like a 10ft cable though but its still coming up as fast charging.
It is about the right time for fast charge. Mine takes about 1 hour 20 mins from 30%
1h40 from 5%
Remember that fast charging gradually slows down as the battery gets closer to fully charged, to keep the battery from overheating. The first 50% will go much faster than the second 50%.
Hi everyone,
I have a galaxy s7 edge and i think that i have a problem with the fast charging feature, but i am not sure so i wanted to ask here.
As i know the phone supports fast charge 2.0 which should charge from 0-60% in 30 minutes. The phone charges fast, and it says that it uses fast charge, but it is just half the speed, normaly it charges 1% per minute, so that means it takes 60 minutes for 60%. Is that normal or should it charge faster, and if it should charge faster, what could be the issue, i am ussing the original charger which came with the phone.
I wondered that also. It takes close to 1 1/2 hours for be to charge. 0-60 never gets done in 30 minutes for me.
Do you keep turning on the screen to check progress? Quick Charge doesn't work while the screen is on.

Hello,
No, it does not matter, even if i do not touch the phone while it is charging it never gets the speed as it is advertised, only half of the speed. Does the always on matter in this point, because i have it enabled?
I think the 3600 mAh battery has something to do with it. It's a big battery. Those stats are likely for a smaller capacity battery.

Those stats are for when the phone is turned off and you put it on charge...
How long does it take you to charge from 0-100 without touching the phone? It should take around 1.5 hours.

That's a good question. I don't know. Turn it off next time you charge and see if it makes a difference.
My note 5 used to charge from 2-100 in 70 minutes. The s7 edge takes 30 minutes more for me. Guessing it's the battery. Also, if you're using the phone and fast charging is on, it'll charge slower than if you were to turn off fast charging. Meaning, if you're using your phone and charging it, better off turning off fast charging since the regular charging will charge it faster while using the phone

Hi.
I one (only once) noticed that my S7E didn't charge well even though plugged in to original charger and cable. Somehow the cable wasn't connected tight on the charger side. This was causing the problem of showing fast charging on the display but slow charging actually.
Atm I'm charging and monitored the progress:
start charging at 1 %
10 min 15 %
20 min 27 %
30 min 37 %
41 Min 50 %
1h 8 min 80 %
1h 40 min 100 %
Fast charger works fine with charger you get phone. Fast wireless charger doesn't work as fast for me. If you leave the phone alone, honestly it does charge fast

Even if you disable fast charging?
This shouldn't be the case. When I disable fast charging it shows a couple of hours remaining till fully charged, don't know exactly how much.

That was about the same as mine last night when I started charging around 22%. Strange how there isn't much difference in the timings.

Also same in my case.
Tried mine yesterday and took about 1 hour, 35 mins from 0 to 100%
My s7 edge (though using s6 active fast charger), showed 42% at start of fast charge.. after 30 minutes it had only gone to 51% or about 9% gain.. not normal.. i tried the same test with an s6 active and it gained about 15% or more in 15 minutes (not 30).
Still trying to rule out the charger, but i noticed this same slowness last nite on the native s7 edge charger.. so i dont think its the charger..
edit: after wiping system partition cache.. 16 minute test i jumped 8% .. i guess this is more normalish though still a tad low.
I would like to verify the same as some users explained.
Fast charge does charge quick in my phone, maybe not as quick as expected.
But i normally leave fast charge disabled, heavy user and dislike picking the device in when its warm.
I was about to pop out, device had like 5-10% battery.
Plugged it in and it said 2 hours to charge.
Unplugged, Enabled fast charge, time went to 1 hour 25 minutes.
So it chopped around 30 minutes off the charging time.
hi, I don't know if this's the place, but I am on stock firmware for s7 (g930f) and it charges really slow (like 4 hours to full charge), does anybody know why? (original charger)
I got USA version..
Is just 3 days I have this mobile.
It took sweet 1hr 30 mins + to charge from 0 - 100%
First 50% was in just over 30 mins..
In between 50%-100% screen was on for 10 mins with 8 mins whatsapp chatting and 2 mins whatsapp call..
95-100% took just over 20 mins..
Is this normal charging speeds for QC 3.0
Or I got a defective piece..
Please let me know..

You're using the device while it is charging? That's going to cause some overheating and many other issues. Try charging it without using it and see if the results change.

That's how every li-ion battery charges. That's normal. This is precisely why manufacturers advertise 0-60% (or close) charge time instead of how long it takes a phone to fully charge
OP, give this a read - http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/charging_lithium_ion_batteries .
tl;dr charge rate isn't linear.

I will try to not use phone and check the stats again
Thank you
All recent phones have a logic chip which decideds the rate of charage in order to minimize the effects of quick charging on battery life and to avoid overheating. Slowing down the rate of charging the closer to %100 is done in order to protect the longevity of battery life, the chemical process involved in charging is not %100 efficient and the higher the rate of charging close to capacity the less efficient it is, this translates to permanent loss of charging capacity next time you run the charging process. Temperature also affects the rate of charging the logic chip dictates. If its too cold it slows down the rate until it heats up to optimal range. If the battery didn't have a temp sensor you could make it loose %90 of its capacity simply putting it in the freezer then QC charging it. If its too hot there is a risk of overheating and fire, so if you are running resource intensive apps your rate of charge will drop to avoid excess overheating. There is NO danger in using the phone while it is charging, even resource intensive games
