USB OTG Gamepad Support - Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Questions & Answers

So when i first bought my redmi note 7 i used my logitech f710 it was working perfectly in all gamepad supported games.
I think (i dont know for sure) after upgrading miui 11 my f710 stops working it doesnt even respond in any app or home screen (both xinput and direct input mode) but when i try to use it with Steam Link app(streams games from pc to yoru phone) Steam asked for permission to acces usb device(like asking permission for your storage or camera etc.) i granted and it was working perfectly again but only in steam remote play.
So the issue is the other apps games or emulator doesnt even ask for permission and gamepad doesnt work.
Anybody know how to solve this issue?

Dualshock 3 refuses to work via OTG

Morning.
Last week or so I've been trying to get my PS3 Dualshock 3 Sixaxis controller working with my Nexus 7 via the Micro USB port, and I'm about to give up completely.
I've googled enough to make my head spin, so this is pretty much my last hope for a solution. I've tried with 4.1.1, 4.1.2 & 4.2.2.
I've mailed the developers of the apps mentioned below, but have yet to recieve any response. This was done more than just 1-2 days ago.
I've tried with & without rooting.
The controller works fine when connecting it to my computer & Transformer Prime. It's been close to fully charged all the time.
The Gameklip cable & the OTG-cable works. I can access HDD's, flashdrives & even the SD-card on my PSP.
While using the OTG-cable, I've tried with different USB - Mini USB cables.
Sixaxis Controller using Bluetooth works fine, not a single problem there. I can also add my Nexus 7's MAC-address to the controller via the app without any trouble.
USB/BT Joystick Center 8 finds the controller, but refuses to accept any input from it. The same developer has released a joystick analyzer, and it recognizes the correct vendor & product ID of the controller.
The keylayout file exists & is correctly mapped in my usr/keylayout directory. I've also tried using the Transformers keylayout on the Nexus 7.
And here's the kicker, the spare Gamestop Xbox 360 controller I've got laying around works without a problem. Which almost led to me frisbeeing this ****ing thing out the window. And even though it works, it's not a viable alternative for me since it doesn't fit in the Gameklip.
At this point I'm up for crazy ideas, so any help, no matter how far out there, is appreciated.
Thanks for taking the time to read through this, and if you have any ideas that might help, thanks in advance!

Sorry for the thread resurrection here but I have searched high and low on the internet and this is the only thing that I find that comes close to the same exact problem I am having. The only difference is I have a galaxy s3 running cyanogenmod 10.2. Same issue on 10.1. I can get a wired 360 controller to work just fine and even a Wii classic controller with a USB adapter to work. No Dualshock 3 though. You ever able to fix this?

DualShock4 Controller/Gamepad Compatibility

From my understanding the DualShock4 PS4 Controller will work with the Shield TV when using USB/OTG cable. Has anyone tried pairing over Bluetooth?
I think the PS4 pad is the most balanced gamepad for thew type of gaming I do(mostly emu/retro gaming and occasional Android native games)and before I order one Id really like to hear from anyone who uses different types of gamepads
Yes, it works with the regular USB cable.
The PS4 controller can connect wirelessly to any android device using the closed source paid app Sixaxis Controller available on Google Play. This works quite well. If you adjust the settings and default mapping it can work just like a native Android gamepad and start the service on boot. Having tried it on my 16 GB model there are two caviats. Firstly it overrides the Bluetooth hardware to simulate a PS4, so you can't simultaneously connect any normal Bluetooth devices (such as the Shield remote). Luckily the Shield gamepad uses WiFi-direct. Secondly, for some reason the D-pad is unavailable during the gameplay of some games. This is no good for playing Half-Life 2. Also the non-default mapping doesn't play well with GTA San Andreas. Despite these issues I'm still glad I bought the Dualshock 4 (I don't have a PS4) because it's the nicest physical gamepad I've used, and the two issues I've listed are only software problems. My LG G3 running CM 12.1 nightlies can connect to the Dualshock 4 without the app but doesn't map well. Another cool thing about the Sixaxis Controller is that you can use the touchpad as a mousepad. Great for sideloaded apps. Oh and you need root to use Sixaxis Controller.
Got it. I was aware of sixaxxis for other android tablets/phones Ive used but for some reason I thought I had seen a youtube video of someone simply pairing a PS4 gamepad using the native Bluetooth pairing process. I may have been looking at a video of another device, not the ShieldTV
My Sony TV with built in Android TV has drivers for a PS4 Controllers to used via bluetooth, is there anyway I can extract the files to be used with the Shield TV?
Did you root the shield tv in order to use the sixaxis? Or did you change the master address and then pair as normal on the shield tv?

I rooted in order to use the Sixaxis Controller app. I never managed to pair it to the Shield TV via normal bluetooth (like I can with my phone). And the master address needs to be changed either way.

yeah I rooted my shield TV last night and using the Sixaxis appto run my Dualshock4 controller. Worked like a charm.
does the siaxais controller ps4 work with the nvidia shield for multiplayer?
The Sixaxis Controller app claims to be able to handle multiple PlayStation controllers but I haven't tested this. I can confirm that it works multiplayer using a DS4 and Shield Controller (which uses WiFi direct, so isn't affected by Sixaxis Controller overriding the Bluetooth hardware). Interestingly the DS4 now pairs with the Shield TV (via Bluetooth, without Sixaxis or root) and maps correctly as of firmware v2.1. Unfortunately it misses button presses and it's impossible to turn off the DS4 without unplugging the Shield or unpairing it (and it took about 20 attempts to pair). Sixaxis still works well but require root and disconnects all other Bluetooth devices. I'm fairly sure that you can pair DS4 controllers with Sony Android TVs out of the box.
will it work via a cable connected usb without a need for an app?
i want a second controller not sure which one to get
anyone using this with bluetooth be aware: if you leave the sixaxis app running for too long with dualshock bluetooth enabled, it may eventually disable bluetooth on your device when trying to go back.
ive been through 2 different nexus players, as well as a shield tv and all have ended up disabling OS bluetooth, even when turning off the sixaxis bluetooth, resulting in requring either a factory reset or android terminal installed and typing in some commands to get it to work again. What causes the issue seems to be random, as sometimes i can leave the app running and come back and it still works, other times it doesnt though. you can still use the nvidia controller since it runs via wifi, but the remote and any other bluetooth devices wont work. this issue is a random event and doesnt always occur, but it IS there, and its a pain to get it working again.
Perhaps someone can find a compatible app to sideload to enable/disable bluetooth in case this happens? would be much easier than typing in terminal commands.
does itwork fine wired ? and is it a better controler

Yeah, I experienced the same issues in just my first time pairing a DS4 controller with the Sixaxis app... Also, like others mentioned on here, the default layout is a bit weird (Options=Select; Share=Back, etc) which means a lot of customizing in games, etc. Also, the service doesn't always auto-start that well so sometimes it takes some time to get it 'connected and ready to go' and I don't like how the app takes over Bluetooth while it's running. The only thing I did like is that the touchpad feature does work well (as long as the app supports 'Mouse input'), but overall I didn't think it's worth the hassle if I have to this every time I want to use the controller.
BTW, in case your Bluetooth becomes disabled while using this app, the command that worked for me (in adb shell) is:
Code:
su
service call bluetooth_manager 6
Has anyone successfully paired the shield with a DS4 without the sixaxis app? My shield can see the controller (listed as wireless controller) but they can't seem to pair.

Same thing happened to me although I only had the app for about 2 hours before it disabled BT. I couldn't get it to work while installed, and i am rooted. I don't believe it works in the newest firmware 3.0.
What did you use to write those commands? Would adb minimalist work? Same app used to root the shield?

Well, I used the Nvidia Shield TV Utility App to get into an adb shell, but Minimal should work just as well. Just make sure to run the 'adb shell' command before you run the commands I listed on my post above..
I used terminal Emulator on the device and it worked great. Turned BT back on

Before rooting and buying the app I'd know if I can connect more than DS4 via bluetooth.. Anyone tried it?
thanks!

Gaming on phone via laptop

Hello, is there a way to control s7 edge using laptops keyboard and mouse (preferably by connecting phone to laptop with usb) for playing games like Modern Combat? Or even stream/mirror to pc?
there maybe by using android SDK. this program acts like an android emulator on the pc for your S7E. There maybe one draw back in that the device may become very slow because al commands go through the usb cable.
You can buy a bluetooth gamepad, and the problem is solved Or you can download something like an Android Emulator (I don't know if I can tell you the name), and they already have the settings for Keyboard and mouse (I think).
Finally found a well working android emulator called Nox, its perfect for playing games like Modern combat
I"ve seen a computer mouse or keybord work with the OTG adapter that has been shipped with your S7, you could try that !

USB Problem connecting Drone RC Controllers... (Mavic, Anafi)

Hi !
The last days i have been trying to get DJI GO (and Freeflight 6 for Parrot) to run on the Oculus Go. (DJI Mavic & Parrot Anafi Control Apps)
As you all know there is a way to let Android apps run in a kind of “cinematic mode” so it will be visible as a 3D Window and controllable by Oculus Go Virtual Controller.
(That is via Oculus TV sideloading)
So that worked at some point. (i can detail that later if things are working)
But now as i have an older DJI GO 4 running and the latest Freeflight 6 running there is a USB Problem of generic nature as it happens on DJI GO 4, Cuva, Freeflight 6, AR.Pro, … --> All apps that should interface to drone remote Controller via USB. (edited)
So its not an App-Level Problem but a general Oculus GO USB thing i fear.
(I have been using all kinds of OTG devices just fine until now, but the Drone Controllers should work as host devices like a PC or Mac)
If i have ADB enabled the connection of Mavic RC or Anafi RC is simply ignored (well its charging but thats all).
If i disable ADB there is a message that the “connected USB device wants ro access folders and files”. I can press “accept/allow” and the Dialog goes away. BUT that Dialog comes again after some seconds.
Drone App will never “see” the RC.
I guess when i plug in the RC, the Oculus GO wants to present itself as MTP device.
But thats sure not what the RC wants.
Do you have any info on how a “normal” SMARTphone operates with the RC ? USB mode or whatever ? If i would learn that i may learn how the Oculus Go can be convinced to work in the same way…
Greetings,
Ender

I have had the same thoughts about running freeflight on the go.... I don't exactly know how the app interfaces with the host device, so not much help there, but if you get it going, or I can help you out in some way, let me know! That would be awesome if you could get it going.
Hi,
i have not yet got it working, actually i did nothing more except waiting for the major FW update of the GO that should include UTB OTG Storage support.
I hope that will open up FF6 as well.
On another note FF6 works *perfectly* on a Mirage Solo Daydream Standalone Headset.
They really cared for a goos 2D to 3D Legacy App conversion !
Greetings,
Ender
Well, FF6 just had a major update also. May be worth looking at.
Has anyone looked into this lately?
Hi all,
Any news on this one?
Please see this thread. I am trying to run DJI fly on the Oculus Go.
https://mavicpilots.com/threads/dji-fly-app-on-oculus-go.77954/#post-882843
No success so far connecting the drone.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks a lot

Redmi note 7 - ps4 controller

Hello I really need some insight with this. I just bought an otg cable for pairning my redmi note 7 with my ps4 controller because I couldnt fix the input delay via blutooth and the continuous connect fix was not working for me(with both new and old version of the program) . When I paired the controller with the cable nothing happened, I then tried with my ps3 controller again nothing happened. They just charge and that's it, no inputs. When i put a mouse on the otg cable the mouse worked normally. When I tried it with my friend's Mi9t everything worked fine ! I tried the USB debugging settings etc, still the same. Is there any way to fix this?
i haven't tried it myself but maybe this could help you :

Thanks I will try this when I get off work and will post the results. I hope this works cause I use my device as an emulation station and this is a big problem for me.

What program are you using and what ROM?

hello, I used the Bluetooth Auto Connect (both the most recent version and an old one which some people said that works better) with no luck. Everything works as it should for a minute or so and then lags kick in and everything is unplayable. I use the most recent MIUI Global 10.3.10. Waiting for thw MIUI 11 update any day now.

Hey it kinda works that way. I mean you have to set it up time after time, after time but it works. So it is the same uncompatibility with the ps4 controller the owners of K20 and K20 Pro are posting about, I just cant figure out why it works fine via bluetooth(minus the insane lag) and not with the otg cable. It's a pain in the ass to set it all over again every time you need to play something in an emulator, but hey, it works I guess. I really hope they will fix this with the imminent MIUI 11 and add native support of the ps4 controller on this model cause I will be forced to sell it and I really like my note 7. Thanks again for your help!

i tried that method but the controller ps3 isn't being detected by the phonenor in the app -when i connect it it says "device is dead" , and the ps4 controller is detected in the app but not in game nor controlling the phone/home screen .
which controller is working for you ? is it working for you outside the emulator games ? if so , which games ?
and btw , is your phone rooted or not ?

Im using the PS4 controller. Sadly my PS3 controller is busted and I cannot test it in order to help you. Yes it is working outside of games with the method described above. You just use it as an alternative input method, so in other words you forfeit the keyboard and you use the controller as an input method. You cannot use the keyboard at the same time and after you disconnect the controller you need to reverse the default input method back to the keyboard in order to use the phone. Its not plug and play, you have to set it every time as I mentioned above but at least it works this way with little to no lag. I have tried it with Mame, Epsxe, Retroarch, PPSSPP, everything works I had no problems with any of the games I tried. My redmi Note 7 is not rooted and runs all the latest updates.

thanks for the respond , i got the ps4 controller to work in the emulator PPSSPP . although that's not what i was trying to solve , i wanted to use the controller in games/apps -the ones you download from the play store like FIFA,NFS etc.. - outside the emulator. but i think i'll have to root my phone to remap the touch control for these games.
i'll have to wait for a week to unlock the bootloader then i'll try again after rooting.
thanks again bro <3
