Hi,
I bought an LG V20 from AliEx, refurbished with a plan on rooting + installing LOS 17.1 ...and, yes, I knew I'm rolling the dice when buying a used device from China.
Unfortunately when the device arrived there were 2 major problems:
1) The phone is not exactly H910 but H910PR (Puerto Rico), after a looooong search I found out one post (on this forum) where a guy tells that H910PR can be rooted and software from H910 (ATT) can be flashed. But ...it's still risky in my opinion.
i.postimg[dot]cc/L57hR1hV/bad-model-V20.jpg
(NEW USER - CANNOT PLACE LINKS!)
2) [MAJOR PROBLEM] The phone's touch screen seems to be not responding when the phone "sleeps" for more then 2-3m. Pressing POWER off and back on solves it, and as long as I am actively using the phone - touch screen reacts ok.
But.. when the phone arrived that non-responsiveness was present much more often.
AND THE BIG QUESTIONS ARE:
1) Is H910PR technically the same as H910, and the ONLY difference is the software (rom)?
2) Do you think that the problem with the touch screen is hardware (i suppose so ( ) or maybe software related.
Those 2 videos will describe my problem better:

I'd return it and get my money back and get another variant that's easier to root with a lesser chance of issues

well...
I thought I was buing H910 (ATT), that's how the damn chinese seller described it, not a word about some particular phones being H910PR. And YES, I know the rooting of V20 is kinda hard, but at this point, I spent approx. 2 months searching for the right phone (for the right price too), and the LG V20 is in my opinion GREAT. By now I know the root procedure almost "by heart" ;P
Also all parameters beside ...my #1 priority was that the phone has to be supported by LOS 17.1 (as i want to degoogle my phone - i'm a big privacy/security/anonymity freak, though still learning and transitioning... )
If LG would still sell V20's (new) at a reasonable price - I would pay double (this refurbished phone cost was approx. 80$ + 20$ LIPO Perfine baterry). Beside that ONE "glitch" and ONE misinformation (h910pr != h910) I really fell in love with this phone (even with the "silly" second screen, which in LAOS 17.1 is integrated).
If it wasn't China I would return it the same day I recieved it, but sending it so far (i'm from PL) is quite a hassle.
But back to the topic ...do you think that this "GLITCH" with non-responding digitizer after 3+ minutes of standby (as seen on the video - BTW: sorry for the HQ) is software or hardware related? What does your gut say?
And is there any way to check this without unreversable changes by elimination?
1) I could elimnate SOFTWARE fault. But I am unable to find a way to backup (in case it's not software) dumped files from LGUP. Dumping went OK - but the result files are useless (not KDZ!)
2) I could eliminate HARDWARE fault. ...NOPE, wait I CAN'T - there's a pseudo-warranty sticker so I cannot unplug+clean+plug again display cables in the phone internals. (From repairing my LED TV i found out that dirty connector cables can result in e.g. inverted colors - some IPA cleaner and ta-da!)
Mouse connected OTG?

I suspect it's a software issue, however I stand by my recommendation to return it, if your intention is to root and cross flash the firmware, I seen numerous people who crodsflashed the 910pr and lose all cellular connectivity.

Hmm... some breaking news. I just installed (F-Droid) AlwaysOn (Always-On-Display), set the hour/date/bat% to display (when off) AND... everything A.O.K (?!?).
My gut feeling is that somehow the screen digitizer when "woken up", at first doesn't receive enough V/A, but when I "wake" him again the amount is enough.
If there would only be a way to check this V20 on a different soft :/ (but I don't know how to put back DUMP files from LGUP back to the phone). Otherwise I would flash H915 KDZ (as the root instruction says)
I also found this when it comes to H910PR: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76370024&postcount=20
EDIT: Just now I found in the FOOTER of the member that posted info on how to root and croos-flash H910PR (above):
"Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 6/64GB
LG V20 - Bricked H910PR Board, Then dead cellular on H910 board. Nostalgia in my desk drawer"
...BRICKED H910PR Board
...life is unfair...
Hi guys!
QUICK QUESTION: Does H910 has polish language? (could someone check this, thanks)
Because one of the sellers on AliEx claims that only H910PR has polish language, H910 does not - it's hard to believe, but maybe that is why they sent me the H910PR at first.

I'm looking at buying a prophet, and the description says that the " Phone randomly crashes turning the screen either completely light or completely dark and require a reseat of the battery to work again. This phone is considered un-repairable by the manufacture. Phone also has unsupported customized Windows Mobile 6.1 firmware."
could this be a software issue or do you think a hardware. possibly a ribbon cable, are there parts available for these? thanks
Hello Quintman and welcome to the forum.
I have no idea where you got the information in your post but as someone who has used a Prophet for 2 years I can tell you that the phone is perfectly stable, specially if you stick with the original WM 5 ROM.
I still use and love it but I would not recommend buying this phone today unless you are looking for something cheap.
It is fairly outdated compared to most models, and has no GPS, 3G, and a slow processor.
I suggest yo post your needs and budget in the general section so people could advise on a better model.
lol i just didnt want to say where it was so everyone would bid on it. it is from ebay. i just didnt know if maybe the rom someone flashed was causing the screen issue or if a ribbon cable came loose or something worse. i was just thinking of buying it to play with it. I currently have a wizard that im selling (hopefully today) so im looking into something else. i love the different models with gps and that can take sdhc, that way i could sell both my gps unit and my mp3 player, but i think those are out of my price range (unless i somehow score one on ebay.) i cant decide whether to take a chance on the ebay one. check your pm

Hello there,
I recently bought sgs4, because it was cheap from my carrier, but unfortunately it was i9515 version - almost completely without community support and locked (knox, flashing anything unofficial trips it's flag and loses you warranty). It's not realistic to expect custom roms etc, so I'm considering selling it and buying this device.
It seemed great, when I compared specs, I also read few threads and those about recovering from hard brick were very promising. Also many roms are present, a way To Flash original firmware and repair under warranty etc. etc. But I stumbled upon a thread about screen and it was really disturbing.
How often do people experience problems with screen? (Phantom touches, "noisy"input, black lines)?
Also, are there any other problems, that I overlooked and missed? Like that roms are nonfuntional, gps/cell radio/wifi radio doesn't work always. Would you consider this phone worth buying and selling relatively "safe" (I mean working hardware) s4?
Thanks for your replies.

Hi!
So, for me, of course this phone is "safe": of course you can read trough forum that there is issues, sometimes, when you flash some ROMs or stuff like this.
But you have to know 1 thing; usage you made of your phone influences on his state: if you want to use it at daily phone, without custom ROM, in stock mode, is very safe.
If you want to flash custom ROM (click on the link in my signature, best ROM ever) but you respect installation rules, there is MINOR chances for you to have issue(s).
Even if it's the case, majority of time there is solution.
Do I answer to your question?

Hello, thanks for your post, but it didn't really answer my concerns. I'm more worried about hardware defects, which seem to happen to this phone and I want to know how many devices are affected and what is the chance that I'll have to repair it under warranty.
I can say that the biggest problem WAS the screen getting yellow spot. I've never heard about phantom touches. However it is possible. So about the yellow spot it was happening on the old devices, then it was fixed. There are a lot of brick scenarios, but most of them are easly fixable. Anyway i think it's more brickable than samsung. (I consider them as the easiest devices for unbrick) Then it's the performance. It's faster in any way. And last my friend have exatcly the same phone and after a bit of use it gets realyyyyyyy hot. I mean compared to G2 it's awful. It's still a great phone even that G4 was just released. I hope i helped and you buy the phone.
When I first got this phone it was relatively safe. However, I lost my first G2 and I ended up with this Asurion replacement and it was okay too but now I'm experiencing Phantom touches I'm not sure from what it could be: butt pocket, wallet case, tight shirt pocket, actually hitting the Snooze part of the screen too much. You see my point anyone of those things could be the culprit. I love this phone and I would love to keep it but as of right now I can't rely on it to wake me up.

When did you receive the replacement phone? All replacements do come with a 1 year limited warranty!
First of all, I'm really sorry fot posting probably such a stupid question, but searching through the forum for more then hour and search engine didn't help at all.
Couple of weeks ago, I found relatively cheap fully working LG G2 D802 16GB , but with few cracks on the glass.Seller was from Lithuania and I'm from Croatia, and after doing a math, less then 100€ with glass changing seemed a fair price so I bid and won it at 57 GBP.Changing the glass costed me less then 20GBP more, so it really is a good price, right?
And then I started to discovering differences(improvements in everything from speed to battery life) compared to my old HTC One X and so I found the app called "Smart World", where I could download some LG themes and LG only stuff(it's my assumption), but it asks me an ID and password,or old ID and old email which was probably used when the phone was brand new.
So my question would be if there is some kind of workaround so I can register my self at Smart World app and use those "benefits"?
Is it posible that I can reset old registration and make a new one or I can forget about it?I know I'm not loosing too much, and I'm aware that I can get most of those things from other places, but I would like it to be, you know, as it should.
I only have to add that all I got with a phone was a charger and USB cable. And a plastic x-line cover for it, so I don't have any manuals or howtos.
Thanks in advance,
Drazen

Humanity is overrated
Hi Everyone,
I'd love to hear opinions from first hand owners of the LG V20, and if you'd buy it again.
I'm pretty set on getting either th LG V20 or the Pixel XL. I'm pretty aware of the specs of both but I wanted the Pixel XL for CopperHeadOS (supposedly more secure, but they only support Google phones for the most part, Pixel XL being one of them). As for the LG V20, I like it more, specwise (bigger screen, better DACs for audio, removeable battery, expandable memory, just better all around in my opinion- where it counts... and better price), but there doesn't seem to be any super secure ROMS out there, which is why I wanted to get the Pixel despite it's price (costs about double right now), and lack of expandable memory.
Otherwise, with my own research, the V20 seems to be a decent phone.
I'm coming from an Xperia Z2, decent phone, but horrible microphone (everyone says they can't hear me), also horrible speaker phone (not loud enough, if I'm driving I can't hear anything).. those are examples of quirks about the Z2.
Any input? Any quirks/annoyances you have about the V20 (specifically for the US996 model, no bootloops hopefully?)? Any input on secure ROMS available for it? To be honest, I'm kind of weary of the whole rooted process, it probably got easier by now, but I used to root and put custom roms on my old android devices, was such a process and always had risks of bricking it etc... only ones I'm willing to hassle over for are secure ROMs (like Copperhead OS)... oh yeah, how is the LG V20 out of the box? Is it pretty decent? Or is it frustrating with the bloatware where you "have to" unlock/root/install custom firmware+rom to make it "useable"?
Thanks in advance!
Was also wondering, anyone else with a USS996 try tethering with At&t, does it work?
I went with v20 this week, the Pixel XL was my first choice... however, I picked up a refurbished Sprint compatible v20 for $299 on Amazon. Luck for me, the software version on it was old enough to unlock the bootloader with DirtySanta.
Overall I've been a fan of LG since the G2, and the v20 is my favorite LG phone so far. I'm glad I didn't spend far more on a Pixel XL. That said, if the unlock had failed, I wouldn't have been as happy.

Just tried blue tooth and wifi tethering on my LG-US996 on AT&T worked fine for me. Connected my ipad pro in both modes to it no problems.

As for your other questions. Just got mine today and have been messing with it so take what I say with a grain of salt cause I've only had one day to play with it. I moved from a ZTE Axon 7 which kept having poor connection issues for me.
No issues so far with boot looping on my LGV20 US996. The power/unlock/lock button being the finger print scanner threw me off of a bit as I kept searching for it but its actually kind of nice where it is. The second smaller screen is great (not sure why many reviews called it a gimmick, I really like being able to see the message of texts etc while reading on reddit or something). The charger that comes with it feels a bit slow but I also have a pixel charger that I use with my Switch which seems to work fine with the v20.
The unlocked version which i got off amazon (which reading the reviews seems to be a gamble which one you get) but the version I got is unbranded and had no carrier bloatware. It did come with a few such as Evernote, Facebook, Instagram, and a few other LG apps. No real complaints on bloat tbh, its not as clean as say stock android but its nowhere near as bad as a branded samsung (Though your mileage may vary if you end up with a carrier version of the phone O_O).
Haven't tried any rooting or installation of any custom ROMS I don't think I will this time around either as the phone seems to be fine with out it. I did however install Nova Launcher and downloaded the apk for Google Now integration so now the launcher feels almost like Google's but better.
Let me know if you have any other questions, I'm pretty happy with my purchase would likely make it again but again I've only had a day with it so far.
I just got mine as well on July 25th, Coming from the droid turbo the sound fried on that phone couldn't make calls or listen to music. As for this phone it runs great only issue I'm finding is being that it is unlocked and can use on any carrier I'm finding I can't update the phone says phone is not registered I wrote LG to find out why and I have not heard back yet,if I'm not mistaking there is a 7.1 now or maybe even higher, I don't know if I should root and take a chance on it, I'm starting to use android pay and I like it if I go for rooting I won't be able to use it but some say you can tweaking this and that so it will work. I don't know and as for Roms, I don't know what is here yet for the V20....
Same I haven't been able to receive an update either, will you please post back when you find out?
Also after a day of use the one thing I do suggest is the moment you get your phone turned on go and disable "Mobile Service Manager" if you got the US Cellular unlocked version this is the the app that carrier used to push bloatware, at least it doesn't come pre installed.
Hey thanks a lot for the feedback Srenyti! Did the tethering/hotspot work out of the box? Did you have to play with any APN settings or anything? How's it call quality on it?
Good to hear that it seems to be decent out of the box, I was getting tired of fooling around with android phones to get it to work "right". Only downside is getting security updates for the phone in the future....
Someone mentioned earlier about getting an older firmware, do they not all unlock if you wanted to go custom?

Tethering/hotspotting worked for me directly out of the box on AT&T also did not have to make any APN setting changes. I just put in the sim, turned it on and it found everything fine. I did double check and it found AT&Ts APN just fine. I have network mode set as global and tried to test out between global vs late/gsm directly but didn't really seem to make a difference.
Call qaulity seems pretty good to me, it's more crisp and clear than my axon 7 which is the only one I've used in recent memory.
As for finding old firmware I believe that would depend on the firmware package you find. If it's straight carrier OEM version it may not be unlocked (unsure about this as anytime I've ever bothered to get a custom rom it's never been carrier firmware). Custom ROMs are always unlocked in my experience.
Yeah security updates are def lacking. And bloatware is fine as long as you disable that app I mentioned before it gets a chance to do anything.
When setting up the phone yesterday it didn't feel as snappy as it does now, so expect some settling in time for the phone it seems.

Verizon version, most likely locked bootloader .
I bought a vs995 coming from a moto x pure 2015. My moto had such diminished battery life I could not make it a full day without charging 3 times if I used the phone at all... It was good for maybe 2 long phone calls... I wanted a phone I could replace the battery on if I wanted atm I believe this is the newest one to still have the feature.

Yeah, I'd want to stay away from the Verizon version. I thought I'd take any unlocked Pixel XL, to one day load CopperheadOS on there, but turns out they only release roms for the older Nexus phones and you have to buy a Pixel XL directly from them (like $1100 or so), I'd still consider it, but all in all I'll probably pass on that phone(Pixel XL) for right now, kind of expensive for me now.
Hi,
I bought a Note 4 to replace my smashed note3 ( thanks!!!! ex gf :- ( ), well ran 6.0.1 but speaker was fried IR only worked 1 inch from tv ir sensor , kept randomly rebooting at less than 20% battery life. bluetooth was sketchy on multiple connections to say the least. SO complained got replacement, well replacement sent is note4 just like the last one brand new open box old stock I mean fully clean phone! But this one is the N910T the 1st one shipped was N910T3 (with a bunch of problems).
I choose the "T" because my old one was a note3 was a N900U that really did not work well on the internet side of things i.e. no 4g I am on metro by t-mobile so A T-Mobile phone would be the way to go to get fast internet.
Baseband N910Tuvu1cog2
build # lmy47x.N910tuvu2dok2 snapdragon 805 2.65ghz according to cpu-z
I need some advice, I would like to upgrade my phone to something cool, i.e. But something that will keep most features intact.
While I could live without fingerprint, I really would like to keep IR and the pen stuff intact (i.e. would like to keep scribbling notes) but most importantly I would like to keep the 4glte intact.
Also I need some hints on how to make this fail safe, I don't know much about phone flashing, the last things I flashed were a nook and a psp phat.
Anybody got a good tutorial for a noob possibly on how to back the current firmware up incase it bricks .
Also what do I need to know about the firmwares out there, which ones could you recommend that will be t-mobile/metroPCS compatible. how do I root this thing at least to do the upgrades. and how can I disable root (and should I?) once flashed so root does not leave a back door open for any tom, **** and harry to hack my phone ;- ).
Would be nice to really come into the year 2018 with this phone i.e. Pie , I mean this old flagship phone still puts some of the mid priced phones to shame :- ). But I would need a rom that would work with my phone which t-mobile doesn't even have a MM version out :- (
ANy help would be appriciated, especially where I can read up with some concise info on the upgrade and rescue processes.
Because there is simply too much info out there to really sift through
