I have been irritated with this for a while now -sure there are a bunch of games for windows mobile, but they are not up to par with our HD2's specs....it is disappointing. This is one of the reasons I am patiently awaiting to see android on the HD2, since the android market seems to have better games....sure games are not the sole reason I got the phone, but figuring that it can perform so much better than what they provide it- it is frustrating...
Well here is my theory on this:
Maybe it has something to with the fact that the HD2 came out recently (the USA ver just came out last month, the other came out less than a year ago I believe)
...a good supporting example is the iPhone, I remember when I first had the iPhone it did not have any games and not to mention it did not even have an app store for a while....but now look at it -sure it is practically completely inferior to our device, but it has a large dev community which leads to some nice apps/games (sure there are a lot of stupid ones, but you can look over those because their 'good ones' are better than our 'good ones' --besides the emulators, mind you).
I am just holding onto hope that the winmo community will be putting out nice games soon since devices similar to ours are going to be more common...also I have the hope that there will be android on our device one day which hopefully will bring some more options as well....
Other wise I guess I will have to develop my own?.....
Your thoughts/Ideas?
It's not just the games that's lacking, it's every other apps available on the market for windows versus android is lacking..
I cannot imagine that windows have a headstart of >5yrs in windows mobile while android is like <3yrs, but ANDROID have apps and games that are useable, fun and good and free or cheap to buy (JUST LIKE THE IPHONE apps)!.
What's up with microsoft ? I don't know. One thing's for sure, I will buy the android when my telco contract is up or when I sell my HD2 whichever is ealier.
See, I am still within the 30 days where I am able to return my HD2....(until the 24th that is...) but I do not think I will do so,but I am thinking about it a lot...
I do not think I will do so for a few reasons - It is actually one of the best phones out right now, also it is a lot nicer than my past phone (iPhone 2g) except for the issue discussed in the OP ...also I have not used my chance to upgrade for a few years and so I thought I might as well take advantage of it because I could have upgraded twice by now with how long I waited for a new phone ... now my final reasons for keeping it: there's nothing better for T-Mobile (for the price I got it for at least) and that I have a lot of hope of what I stated in the OP about games coming some day otherwise android will hopefully come through...
I tried to get the Nexus One, but I have a family plan and would have to pay about 500$ for it which is ridiculous to me.
BTW wj888- what do you mean 'I will buy the android..."...sounds like you are referring to a device named 'the android' which there is none (of which I know of at least)....
thoughts/Ideas?
i think that now the HD2 is available in the states that there is a good chance more apps will appear. however, it could be that developers are waiting for windows 7 on the phone and then microsoft may well provide more interest in growth.
Mike
I wonder if there is anyone with an opposing theory or something to change my mind...
return
Just return it, get, or wait for something that will make,& keep you happy. Don't second guess yourself, & wish you had waited for new device.. This will be around after the others come out, look them all over, then decide,,,, I love mine!!

With WinPhone 7 coming soon, you're not going to see as much development for WinMo. I wouldn't expect many more games being made for it. And don't plan on an android port anytime soon. If you don't like the device now, return it while you can. There are going to be plenty of comparable phones in the coming months. If you don't like it now, you're gonna be wishing you weren't stuck with it for 2 years when you keep seeing all these other phones coming out that you wish you could get. Remember, WinPhone 7 is coming at the end of the year with X-Box Live support and much more gaming options. If gaming is that important to you, you should wait for something else. I'm happy playing all the old playstation games on my HD2... that's plenty of gaming for me.

How? Is there an emulator available?
Edit: Found on google FPSEce
yeah I like everything about it except the fact of the non existent games. So I think I will return it and have to return to using my iPhone 2g (sigh...haha)...
is there anything out there with a 1Ghz+ CPU that works with Tmobile USA 3G? ...besides the Nexus One ?
Also, I was thinking if I keep it, I can try and sell it then use that for another phone? I guess that is not really a smart idea though right ?....
As for all of you who say you really love the phone, do you not game much on your phone to care about this issue ? What do you do with your phone, if I may ask?
I am in a tough spot ....
also another thing which might change some minds : I upgraded in the store, now Online it still will let me upgrade the same line to another phone again as if I did not even upgrade at all? Is that usual?... I Was excited when I noticed this, but I am not sure if this is how it usualy is or whats going on....so if I return it , I may loose the chance to upgrade twice ? IDK
Please advise....
Well to reply to ur question what i do with it (absolutely love everything about it)
besides using it for texting, calling, mailing i watch youtube movies, series with coreplayer. and i also play games. i am going to explain what.
you can find a lot of fun flash games on the web, use this and u can play them on ur hd2!
I also use FPsece for some fun psx games. buy a msi bluetooth gamepad if u really want optimal gaming experience. also i found some fun games in this topic. especially the one where there is only a demo available for looks really good
i hope i helped you
There are quite a lot of games out there that work for the HD2, ones I have on mine:
Kiwi
Sonic Racing
Tower Defence
Galaxy Hopper
Caver
Experiment 13
G-Invaders
PocketSand
Crayon Physics
Hunting
Tripplix
Worms
Mini Galf - Wacky World
Flight Commander
Prince of Persia
Pocket Mini Golf 2
Totem Star
Splinter Cell Conviction
Spinballs
You just gotta look for them, good places to look at the EA mobile store and Gamesloft - just to name a couple.
Quite a few are appearing on the Market Place now.
I am looking for more graphic intense games...at least some which would put some of that nice hardware to good use....
Those flash games look decent -I will try them out...
I dont know what to say I may just return my HD2 and wait for something else to come out....? Does anyone have anything to add/ mention in that regard ?

If you want simple and fun games WM is not for you simple as that. I love the fact that I can play old PSX games on my phone as I've found most of the games available on the iPhone below par. Sure they might look better, but the bottom line is that great graphics not a good game make. FF VII still blows anything available on either android or iphone away. Tekken 3 runs pretty good as does Gran Turismo 2 and I got em both for under 10€.
Doubt we'll see great mobile games on a windows based phone until WP7.

Buy a PSP if you want a games console, it's a phone, and a very powerful one at that. With a handful of addictive games, and the entire PSX/NES/SNES/GBA back catalogue I am very happy with the games avaliable, not that I use it for playing games that's why I have a PS3, that I never use... But that's another story.
There are tons of games for Windows Mobile, and part of them work fine in HD2. So far, I have installed more than 20 games on it and I am still going for more. A lot of games have WQGA version which is good for HD2. Even VGA version is fine.
well come to Windows Mobile world.
For those who wants a good app store....buy Iphone, Android devices or Palm pre webOS.
MS dont want HD2 owners upgrade to WM7, because they want we live in dead WM app store.
PS: But we have a lot o based stock roms....nice.....we can flash HD2 with a diferent version rom, every days...lol
Doesnt anybody have the intelligence anymore to RESEARCH before going out and buying a product? Another thread where someone saw the HD2 and said "Oooh, shiny!) and bought it without having a clue what OS it runs or how it works and now moans about lack of this, lack of that. All that seems to matter to people now is whether it is free or cheap, I wonder how many people would be willing to work for free?
I despair of the human race, stupidity seems to be the new Black!

wth are you talking about this thread has nothing regarding that I "knew nothing about the OS"...
this is just another post of some condescending person looking to talk down to someone when they do not even read the specific issue...stop trying to up your post count....
any ways -I was well aware of windows mobile and I had it before in the past actually, but man I thought the games would be improved for the most part they are still the same type of games provided in WM5 - 2D cheap excuse for an 'arcade' game...they are actually the same kind of games found on every other phone out there (just about!)...believe me I had many phones and I may be young but I have seen these types of games on phones for ages and honestly since this is such a big improvement in a phone then I would have though the games would suit the hardware but no...so I guess I will be returning the HD2 and waiting for something else to happen in the phone scene...

The main issue is that there are so few WinMo devices with specs this good... HD2, LG Expo, maybe a couple other. It's not really worth it to design a game that makes use of this hardware when it won't work with most WinMo phones.
But actually, I'm VERY happy with the gaming options for the HD2 with being able to play almost any psx, nes, snes, gba, etc game out there with multitouch onscreen controls. What other phone can do that? It's the only phone I can play final fantasy 7,8 & 9 on at full speed... so even if i was a big gamer, i would still pick the HD2 for the huge library of games it can emulate VERY WELL. I wouldn't want to much more gaming on my phone... I'd get a PSP for portable gaming if I was a big gamer.
not to say I am a big gamer though, just when I sit down to play some games I would like there to be some nice games available besides emulators which I can play on my PC and otherwise I do not mind not playing them so much....
This phone is already outdated as many have said and when wm7 comes out there may be people developing games for that (which would not work with previous WM devices...) so I believe by the time that comes around I will probably go and purchase a new phone since I will return this one and have some patience for a while....
and honestly, why would I spend 2-300$ on a phone, then spend another 2-300 on a PSP, then the PSP I would have to buy each game (no free games)....so I would be spending more when in actuality I am not looking for such an intense gaming experience just one sufficient to the hardware provided would do fine....
The only thing it has are emulators which I am sure other 1ghz phones can run decently as well....
In the end if I return my phone while I have the chance I can always come back and buy it again later on when something good comes up....
First off, I'm not a professional or even amateur programmer. I'm just a naive guy with a dream. With that said i hope you guys don't set your keyboards to "Extreme-troll-mode" when you comment.
A couple of years ago i had an iPod Touch, 1st Gen. I had it jailbreaked, and I did it for one reason alone, so i could play all the appstore games for free. I know right, I suck at being a good consumer. But that's neither here nor there. The means of getting the apps for free was an app called "Installous*" from where you installed the apps directly. Which means that the folks over there must have written a script (or something like that) making installing apps outside Appstore a reality.
So with my logical-non-programmer brain i thought "Well hey, if they have written a script that installs apps without using the appstore, why can't we?" I mean we have to change were the apps are stored, and making some kind of .ipa(app format) emulator.
Android is a powerful system and think(guess) that making it support .ipa (Apps) is doable.
*Installous is basically an app that connects to a website where links for apps are located. Since we wouldn't be able to buy the games anyway, the good folks over at Appstore wouldn't really loose anything.
I'm not saying that i support not supporting the fine authors of games on the appstore, but if this would work, we would have the best of both Android and iOS.
If anyone wants to tackle this badboy i'll support you with the small means that i have.
Android is coded in java whilst iOS is coded in c++ and therefore the apps wont run without major tweaking

7 minutes and no response is too long? Yeesh.
Anyways like above. Buy FPSE off of market and supply your own ripped PSX/PS1 CDs (you'll likely need the SubChannel data when you rip it, because copy-protect stuff is there, also, include bad sectors).
Mind you, you need to legally own a copy of the game (I still have my Valkyrie Profile discs and a few others lying around, love those games). FPSE is made through community efforts from original PSX/PS1 emulation code, plus a TON of fricking changes and updates and fixes to make it work on ARM and/or specific CPUs and GPUs on different android platforms. The amount of work they are doing on that thing is a huge undertaking.
Alternatively you can buy stuff from Sony Computer Entertainment off the Android Market. I think they have a few games on the Android Market to buy. Crash Bandicoot, Syphon Filter, WipeOut (good futuristic racing game with great soundtrack, btw), and some others. These all use the native, Sony-Made PlayStation emulation.
Thirdly, there is currently dev work being done to reverse engineer the packages in order to be able to utilize the native Sony-Made emulator to run other self-ripped games. They are 80% of the way there and have it fully disassembled and understand it, but are having problems fitting it all back together with custom stuff. Check the dev section for progress threads.
If you are looking for a way to do it free and possibly get free stuff... not the place here.

I wish you could buy those games off the Market.
WipeOut, Destruction Derby, Syphon Filter and a few others are available but only outside the US...
One day SCEA will give us some PSX love off the market. I'd be more than willing to buy these games a third time... Until then, we have Yifanlu.
I can get on board with Windows Phone 8 or even IOS but the only thing I cannot stand is how they don't allow you to have choice. On Android even though it doesn't come as standard any more, I can still download the APK and install Flash Player myself. Average users can just use the OS and never install flash but I'm still allowed to install it as it's a personal need.
Now Windows Phone 8 is out and it is another OS that doesn't allow you to install software they haven't approved. It just pisses me off so much, especially seeing as they don't have BBCiPlayer yet which uses flash. I mean everyone will tell you these days that flash sucks, no one uses it and yet every site I seem to go to does, even Youtube has lots of flash only content you cannot play with HTML5. I mean is HTML5 even going to become the new standard? I don't see people picking it up very fast.
I just don't get why people don't want choice any more, they seem quite happy to defend being controlled and told how to use their phone. I find IOS harder to use than Android and many people I meet do, I mean things like sharing files between your device and your PC which should be so easy has become so hard. You used to be able to just plug in your phone and it would show as a HDD, now however with IOS and I'm sure Windows Phone 8, you cannot do that. I find it funny because people actually do find these so called user friendly devices harder to use. It's like Windows 8 now and how their new Metro UI has tried to make things look so simple that they've hidden all the options. Things once simple to do, you have to right click and then search in settings to find they've removed the feature to keep the UI looking clean.
I'm just sick of it, the least Microsoft could do is allow third party software to be installed as an option for advanced users. This would at least make up for the lack of functionality on a new OS... no BBCiPlayer? No problem, use the Desktop site which I always do on Android anyways as it has far more functionality and content than the app, the same goes for Youtube.
HTML5 is the new standard. It is adobe's policy and attempts to try to maintain the monopoly over the market-share, combined with pure ignorance from established web developers that still keep it alive.
Installing third party software on a phone is kinda dangerous. Your phone is not a desktop PC, it has limited uses, and it should be regarded as such...
Oh and there is really no reason not to have your functional app on the marketplace. If your app is that awesome and yet you can't get it from the marketplace, then there is something wrong with it.
Don't forget about piracy.
Firstly the phone has limited uses? I've got the same Nokia phone that I've had since 2003 and it works fine. I've had the GS2 for a year and a half now and loaded countless custom roms and third party software and the phone is perfectly fine. Also on that point like I've said I've loaded countless amounts of third party software on Android from torrents or other sites and my phone has been fine. I've put lots of different firmware types on my phone and it has been fine. I don't see anything dangerous about it other than being an idiot enough to load some virus onto your phone.
Apps don't get to the market half the time not because there is anything wrong with it but because Microsoft or Apple simply don't want it on their platform. There is nothing wrong with saying you can flick this switch to open you phone but then have a warning saying you void your warranty or whatever if you brick your phone. Why don't they do this? I just think it all comes done to being scared of piracy more than anything and tbh that isn't a good enough excuse.
HTML5 isn't the new standard because 90% of the sites I go to still use flash and not HTML5. I just don't get why they'd say you can never install this on your phone, why not? All these fanboi claims of how bad it is has led to the downfall. I don't know what machines these people are using, I guess they're made up ones because I've never had a problem with flash, it has always run fine and never crashes all the time like people say... not on my GS2 and not on my Desktop. I'd say Flash is one of the most stable things on my system, I mean games crash far more often, surely ban games then for being unstable and poorly coded? Frigging barely any games are multithreaded even now, BAN THEM ALL!

All in all WP8 was a huuuge disappointment. At least for me

Yes, a phone has limited uses, you can't replace your PC with your phone no matter how much you want that.
Second, downloading apps from torrent is illegal. You have quite a lot of gutts to post such misery on a developer's forums, and i, as a developer, take great offense to that, so please get my sincere GTFO.
Third, Custom roms are something that android needs to survive, without it there would be no android. Windows Phone doesn't need that.
About HTML5, yes it is the standard, but people aren't forced to adapt by the standards instantly, they have a lot of time. But as this time runs out, flash will become extinct, therefore there is no reason to implement flash on new phones, as in 3 year's time, flash will be gone.
If your games have worse stability than flash I suggest you:
Get new RAM, your existing one is damaged.
Reinstall your Operating system, and don't pirate it.
Check your error logs, you will see flash is very unstable.
A ton of websites use HTML5.
Not a lot of websites use the new HTML5 video and audio elements.
A lot of the websites that do use them, either fall back to flash / Silverlight or use flash / Silverlight, first, and fall back to the HTML5 video and audio elements.
The websites that I work with, that use video and audio, do Silverlight, first, and fall back to HTML5 video and audio.
The biggest reasons are...
1: Very little native full-screen support (Chrome has it, but that's about it)
2: Firefox and Opera don't support MP4 / MP3 (we have to produce video is MP4 and WebM and audio in MP3 and OGG)
3: Our live broadcasts use the SmoothStreaming technology (only iOS and Android 3+ support that for HTML5 video - Silverlight supports it and supports most computers)
It is worth noting that I COMPLETELY agree with the point of this thread, though.
The iPhone started a trend of consumerizing smartphones.
As such, a lot of big business is still using Blackberry and Windows Mobile.
I would not be surprised, at all, if, in the next five years, we started seeing another separation of consumer versus professional.
The last few years have really tried to re-integrate the two and it hasn't worked, very well.
JJ
If 90 percent of the sites you visit still use flash then you're going to some low-quality porn sites... Also, WP8 does have disk mode, it also syncs through media player in the same way WinMo did.

Preach, preacha!!!
I would agree that a majority of torrents are copyrighted material, but certainly not everything.
Almost every Linux distribution utilizes torrent as their main means of downloading.

On my Jelly Bean I can't do this.
How is having Flash choice?
Can I get Flash from Microsoft or Flash from Apple or Flash from Google? nope, all versions of flash were done by one company. That's not competition or freedom, that is lock in. If Adobe didn't like your OS and phone you didn't get Flash.
HTML5 is like a universal language for all web enabled devices, we're better without these proprietary closed and restricted plugins.
After years if constantly flashing new ROMs and such. I for one am glad to be at WP8.

I got a little laugh out of this one. Thanks. I agree a bit here. That's what happened to me when I went from pre WinMo 7 to iOS. Now I'm back on Android because of how tired I was of the inability to do something as simple as customize the homescreen. Really, I don't care which one I use and, honestly, I'd use different ones at different times depending on needs and even mood. I flash a little bit with my Android but really like to get settled on something and not have to worry about it. That doesn't work out that often on Android, unfortunately. That's why I relate to the comment on "flashaholic...being cured". I'd like to try out WinPhone 8 for a little bit, but the first thing to turn me off big is the same thing that bothers me on the Win8 desktop, the integration with the MS ecosystem. I'm tied to Google apps and don't feel like switching. It makes most sense for me to use a Google OS because of the strong integration with Google apps.
All that being said, it's just a phone, it's just a desktop, just let me get what I want to get done on the two and have a real life! LOL
The basic fault with the argument here is that the ability to sideload applications has been there in various ways since WP7 came along. It wouldn't help you with your problems though. IE9 on WP7 and IE10 on WP8 simply don't have any plugin support so you wouldn't be able to add any.
The complete architecture of Android is more open and geared towards customization. The effect of that is that we frequently have Apps that don't run (well) on different OS versions, have stuttering problems or have to wait for ages and ages until the customized code gets updates. Allowing for a lot of flexibility with the system makes updating and changing code really challenging. I've encountered numerous of those problems on my GS2. Of course it's running reasonably well after I put CM9.1 on there and didn't bother to change much else but that's hardly how I would use my primary phone (installing Twitter killed Video playback for me on the Stock ROM - for whatever reason).
So basically as a consumer the tradeoff comes down to having everything work as intended without much possibilities to make the system misbehave versus a customized system that I can break at times. It seems there is not much of a middle ground there. We'll have to see how this plays out in the end as Microsoft is indeed adding integration points for developers to use to the system that make it more flexible while still enforcing certain guidelines.
On the whole Flash vs. HTML5 debate. Actually HTML5 can't replace Flash and Silverlight in many use cases. There are not even any standard proposals for certain functionalities that have been part of those Plugins for ages. Webcam-Support, DRM'd Video/Audio, etc. For those reasons alone it will be quite a long time before HTML5 really could replace them. Another important part is that there has been lots of money invested in building sites on top of those technologies. Over 90% of all Web activity still originate on classic PCs/Notebooks that have Flash support so unless your target audience is particularilly Smartphone/Tablet focussed (e.g. Gadget Blogs, etc.) you simply don't feel much pressure to move away from something that works just fine right now.
However Apple led the charge to kill Flash, Microsoft chimed in and in the end even Adobe decided to jump onto that train - even though none of them had a clue how to replace the technology. This clearly showed when Microsoft decided to revive Flash in Windows 8's Metro IE. I still doubt we will see any renewed development of Flash for mobile operating systems and it remains to be seen how long it will keep running on Android given that it has been abandonned by Adobe. It all comes down to the fact that the industry decided to move away from Flash and for better or worse that is what is happening right now. As soon as mobile really becomes important for the web industry things will start changing, right now it simply isn't or it is far easier to simply write an App then messing with a website that's working right now.
Android doesnt let you customize as much as maemo5, but still people choose it.
C'est la vie, necafé?
Personally Im enjoying wp8 for what it is: a smartphone OS. If it was a laptop Id be inclined to agree that it would be too limiting, but its not.

While people like to customize, they also want to have an OS that's actually supported.

@LudoGris
Do you know if your device is gonna get software upgrades or have you been able to flash new software. I have the same version as you have but won't be able to flash something new on it.
itsa porno thing
Just go to the jack-shack its cheaper
I was like you : I thought using iOS or WP was a regression because of lack of freedom. I used to heavily flash my Android devices... then I discovered WP (7.5 first, then 8). I really like it because it's simple... and it's working ! No need to flash, no need to choose another launcher, no need to get lost in settings : it works ! It's stable, fluid and ergonomy is great.
I really like WP8 "launcher" AKA Metro. I think it has the best way to personalize information by choosing what is the more pertinent for each user.
I can live in a closed OS if it answer to all my needs... With WP8, it's the case !

We probably don't need another "me too" here, but I have to say, you've summed up my experience perfectly I was thrilled to flash AOKP's ICS and JB onto my old single-core Samsung Fascinate, and then I could get Nova Launcher with gestures and docks and more options than I can recall; but all those new features were slow, slow, slow. So I flashed the Devil kernel and tried different govenors, but of course YGWYPF and my battery life went down the tubes. I had replaced almost all the stock apps with better versions from the market, but my app collection grew to well over a hundred and I needed Titanium Backup to manage it all. So here I am doing like high-level IT support just to get my phone to work as a phone. It was very pretty but my wife was complaining about how I always missed her calls.
My new HTC 8X is such a revelation. There's nothing to do except use it, and it works perfectly. There's no lag ever; everything is right there or at most one or two clicks away, and the stock apps are just fine, thank you. Sure, I have my hit-list of missing features but none rise even to the level of annoyance, and I expect there will be improvement.
My only concern is developer interest. I read this about an IDC survey:
According to IDC, which surveyed almost 5,000 developers, Windows 8 and Windows Phone are in a lot of trouble. While iOS (iPhone, iPad), Android (handsets and tablets), and HTML5/mobile web fall well above that crucial 50 percent mark, Windows 8 and Windows Phone fall well short. Only 33 percent of developers said they were very interested in writing Windows 8 “Metro” apps. And only 21 percent were interested in doing so for Windows Phone.
(Fully 85 percent of responders were very interested in writing iPhone apps, and 83 percent were very interested in writing iPad apps. Android handsets and tablets came in at 76 percent and 66 percent, respectively, whereas HTML5/mobile web was at 66 percent as well.)
So we'll see. I think the new handsets from Nokia and HTC will help draw attention to how good the O/S is; but it seems Microsoft is trying now to make itself into a better Apple, only Apple was there first.
I just found the shield TV was an officially supported device by Remix os.
there is the ROM http://www.jide.com/remixos/devices/shieldtv
it seems it is lollipop based and have no hardware acceleration yet.
did someone tried it and is willing to give a feedback?
EDIT: I didn't read the post properly, response removed.

same image for both.but 500gb shield will be a lots slower to install.
(formating)
This remix os version is for the Shield Pro, it's lollipop based so if anyone's on marshmallow and want to try it, you will have to downgrade in order to install
It would be amazing if we could dual boot this ROM (on Lollipop) and the stock Android TV on Marshmallow.maybe with AROMA and

so true,to bad twrp does not support multiple rom on this device.
that suck.
in the other hand jide just leaked some info about remix 3.0 marshmallow.
that will be released very soon.
Remix is still a little glitchy & controller does not work wirelessly. Every other time Play Store is opened one must uninstall Play update, can be solved by installing the latest Play Store apk

Ho OK thx. Yes the controller and play store was expected.it is not the first that have this problem (Zulu roms)
Nvidia need to release the driver, they will make less holding back the controller wifi driver,as all it seems is a vain attempt to promote geforce now sales and percentage earnings via play store etc on shield tv.The chances are the units would fly off the shelves far faster than they ever would make more selling the games in a cloud subscription gaming service by miles,I'd see it as it would gain us notoriety for the hardware if I were a boss there, and that's everything brand recognition trumps trying to sell subscriptions to a sparse game library, and android tv os is just so young and uninteresting to some developers I am picturing it,this is why they are not rebuilding or porting current libraries of apps and games to the os.They probably see it more rewarding to keep with the standard os than plug money into an unknown variable, unless of course the fault lies with googles turn around on verifying the allready ported apps and games, this confuses me why is android tv os so sparse on apps and games and where does the blame lie in versions of apps and games for the android tv os lie anyway google and or the developer can someone elaborate where the blame goes please as I am confused what the problem is?

I assume for the play store the problem is from Google..
they offer different licencing for basically the same thing as Android..
but they have split Android and Android TV only because they wanted to earn more money.
splitting the licencing mean 2 time the money for them...
protecting a different experiences for living rooms.
for streaming stuff and controller you can blame nvidia for promoting their proprietary services and technology.
the cloud, the streaming and their "high "bandwidth "controllers.
Ah now I get it it's due to greed, make money by calling the same thing a different thing by slapping a launcher in it and saying yeah you can list your game in android tv os as well, but you know it's a different thing to normal android os because it's tv os! But actually it's android with a different shell they charge you again for just to list in the same play store for it,that's what people where i live call pure skank lol :good: thumbs up goolge no wonder everyone isn't jumping on the development side of this cash cow all at once lmfao, why the heck would you discourage before encourage if the aim is profit here???But thanks for this insight I never realized they'd do such a thing,it's theoretically a bit unbecoming of a open source os owner to start cashing in twice a time in my opinion it's a little bit cruel, maybe if they'd say earn your 1st year before paying a fee that would be better for anyone coming in as a first time publisher of apps or games, instead of being told give me your money then I'll list your game or app,who cares if it's not affordable because all your time and effort is spent making the app or game come to fruition for the purpose of then publishing it.Or even better incentives is 1 years free publishing and then a fee is paid regardless if you take it down or not,it gives a push to put good stuff up and not lowsy stuff otherwise you make nothing to pay with in the first year, why not work it door swings both ways like that,or a 2 year grace period is even better,it would mean better quality product is likely made, and money for the developer to afford to pay is highly likely at that stage.
I almost made a new topic for this, but decided to revive this one instead. Jide just released v3 of Remix OS for the Google Pixel C...... which has the same CPU/GPU as the Shield TV does, so theoretically this should make it a hell of a lot easier to get it working on the Shield.
I've been using it on my Pixel for about the past 48 hours and I absolutely love it. I'm trying to re-arrange my PCs in my apartment and I'm looking for a high performance, low power PC to put in my bedroom as a replacement for my Steam Machine (currently streaming stuff from it to the Shield in the living room), and the Shield with Remix would be the perfect candidate since I already know it suits my needs and is really snappy.
The question is, who's up to the challenge to get it to work? I know nothing about Android development, but I'm more than willing to help with development and provide anything necessary off of the Pixel, which shouldn't be a problem since I have Remix OS currently rooted

I dont understand? All my apps that I bought originally for standard Android devices work fine without having to rerpurchase. This even goes for apps I bought a few years back. I dont see Google splittimg licencing between devices, rather the opposite. And thats why Im perfectly happy with my Shield TV. If you look at Apple, they did what you talk about, releasing phone / tablet and I guess ATV versions of apps making customers have to repurchase.
Remix os uses a different license than android
They still have to release the source code, the kernel is Linux and the OS is Android, both are open source and licensed under the GPL so by law they have to release the source code of at least that, which is the major part we need. Also Nvidias drivers and source code are released so what are we really missing? I just read the article on XDA and its talking about Android-X86, but this is Android ARM, which is a different beast. Jide mentioned that they hosted their code on github, but surprise, surprise its empty https://github.com/jide-opensource. This seems to be their real repository: https://github.com/JideTechnology
Also I wouldn't be too sure of them releasing it for the shield since they already sell their own desktop/media center device.
Edit: looks like I was wrong Android is licensed under the Apache license, which means that a company can take the source code, modify it and change the license but the still have to release the code for the unmodified parts
Still me thinks it shouldn't be too difficult since they're using the same CPU and GPU, but the pixel is essentially a Chromebook and the shield has no screen or touch input, just an HDMI port, so it may be way more difficult than I think.

The licensing is on dev side.not on customer side.
this would be amazing
