As most of you know the one thing that this tablet doesn't seem to immediately have is a way to connect it to external displays. My question is, if you watch the google io presentation, this is exactly whats gets done for instance here you can clearly see what seems to be the nexus 7s display being fed live to the big screen. Is that done with an external camera? How are they doing that?
This looks like it is just done with a camera as they are interfacing with it via mouse clicks by the looks of it

Hm i guess that would make sense, wonder why the took it out, im sure people wudve paid the extra 10 or 20 for hdmi.
I like the idea of Trusted Devices but I'd like to pair it with something that's always on me so I almost literally never have to enter my PIN. The best would be something that's nearly as slim as a credit card that could go in my wallet or a very small nub that could go on my keyring. I've searched around but nothing seems perfect. Any ideas for this?

Seems rather impractical, as you'd always have to be connected to the bluetooth device, so it would need to be charged, and your phone would be using more battery/staying awake whenever it is connected.
This is exactly what the Moto Skip is for, but it's not a trusted device in the sense that it stays on all the time and you don't have to do anything to unlock.
There are two types of Skip devices, though. One is more "active" and will wake and unlock the device. This is the "nicer" option, and it uses a magnet to clip onto your shirt, pants pocket, etc. The other option is the more "passive" Skip, which are the Skip Dots that come with the Moto Skip. They are stickers that do the same thing as the Skip, but you have to wake the device and then touch them. If you have the device sitting on a Skip Dot on your desk, in your car, etc. and press the power button, then pick it up, it will be unlocked. With the Moto Skip proper, you just touch it and the phone will vibrate and unlock.
I bought a Moto Skip when I got my Moto X because it was half off, but I've never really used it. I have a 30 minute lock delay on my PIN, and check my phone pretty often, so it doesn't really ask for a password that much. I also use Bluetooth trusted devices in my car, with the GM in car phone connection.
Depending on where you spend the bulk of your time, look into Tasker and Secure Settings change PIN/password settings based on WIFI connections (home/work WIFI might be your "safe zone"), and lock it up when you're not connected to those.
Just my thoughts.

I bet it works only on BT 4.0+ since it can't have a large battery (probably a CR2032 or similar disk). I know that some BT 4.0 devices have 1-2 years of life between charges, but don't have much range or capability.
You didn't reference your "Old" Moto, but it will work with the X.

For my purpose (and I believe the OP's) - having something on you that is a trusted device - a range of 6 feet and the capability to pair with another device are all that's required.

I've been waiting for something like this as well, but so far, nothing has popped up yet. Android central and the following posts are good. Was hoping the Chipolo would work but it seems to have lots of issues. Maybe the Gecko tag will work it is released.

The trusted device feature works wonderfully with both the Pebble and the Galaxy Gear watches. Conversely, I've had nothing but trouble with the Stick-n-finds. They refuse to pair for me.

I second the Pebble. It's my favorite feature of the Pebble actually.
The position of the fingerprint sensor seems to be in conflict with a car dock.. has anyone seen a dock that unlocking the phone wouldn't be a nightmare for? Or some kind of reasonable solution to keep it unlocked once it is in the dock?
Just use smart lock... When connected to car Bluetooth = uses no lock

I think Tasker would be a good solution for this as well.
"If" Bluetooth connect to car
"Then" disable screen lock
My car doesn't have BT.... yet.... need a new headunit lol
NFC tag, put a tag on your car and program it so when you swipe your new phone over it it turns off the screen lock and then swipe it back over it to reengage when you leave the car.

You need something like this.
http://www.amazon.com/SoundBot-Bluetooth-Hands-Free-Wireless-Streaming/dp/B00RH29CJO
I have an Infiniti g35 and it has Bluetooth phone but no Bluetooth audio. It has aux jack in middle console under arm rest. I plugged that in there and let it rest in there close the arm rest and voila, done.
Most modern phones even allow you to connect to multiple bluetooth. So I have original car Bluetooth for phone and that model in link sb360 for audio. As long as it is anything other than a phone call it comes through the aux via the Bluetooth dongle.
Give it a shot. Worth every penny. That one is an example of course.
This dock won't block it. It works great. It's a little tight and tricky to put in with such a big phone (had a Moto X Pure for a short time).
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I0DL2OC?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s01
My dock + bluetooth solution:
CD dock
NFC sticker on the dock (optional)
AUX-Bluetooth dongle
My 2007 BMW's head unit only supports phone call bluetooth (no music) and my AUX port is in my armrest. My Galaxy S3 (soon to be Nexus 6P) is connected to the car's bluetooth for the phone call bluetooth profile & the bluetooth dongle for the music profile. This allows me to stream music to my car and be able to receive/make phone calls via my car's bluetooth.
(sorry can't post links just yet)
This dock won't (shouldn't) cover the fingerprint sensor:
amazon .com/Koomus-CD-Air-Smartphone-Android-Devices/dp/B00HRKI5V2
--I have the smaller version of this currently and it hold my phone solidly. I will be getting this larger one for the 6P.
Bluetooth dongle:
amazon .com/Mpow-Streambot-Bluetooth-Switchable-Transmitter/dp/B00P20TFWM
I have the exact bluetooth puck that rfvreynoso posted (via Amazon) and it works great. I swapped it for another one that had a battery (and could be plugged in) but I found it worked better to have the signal shut off as soon as the car shut off, the battery one didn't do that.. As with others, my car only does phone bluetooth, so I added the puck for streaming audio.

I'm not familiar with the mechanics of this, will it auto unlock if it is near that device? If so that seems like a major security hole. If instead it stays unlocked if it has already been unlocked when near that device then that could work.

Hi,
I just installed my new Joying unit, but the Bluetooth software is terrible.
There is no song information and the audio quality is really poor.
Audio quality is fine using native apps to stream the same music (Spotify, Digitally Imported, Sound Cloud, etc.).
Does anybody know if the unit uses some ancient bluetooth profile?
Is there any up-to-date replacement software available?
My Phone is an iPhone 6.

This is the version i bought: EU-JY-UQ128
https://www.carjoying.com/eu-wareho...layer-head-unit-for-double-din-universal.html
In addition to my original post, I must say that both music streaming and phone calls are near to unusable.
Phone calls are best described as 1992 quality.
Oh boy, I got one of these to test, hope it works better than described here.

Did you root this by chance or are you using the stock ROM still? Do you have any problems w/ you rownice unit? Can you change the button backlight color? I may be better suited to something like this that doesn't have BT audio quality issues, especially when making calls.

Since the december update the unit runs like a charm, i don't have reboots or data loss like in the beginning and where now waiting for the lollipop update.
1: I am using the stock ROM
2: You can root but on your own risk, if its get wrong there is a unbrick rom, on the xda Ownice C200 forum you can find help to do so.
3: You can change the button backlight color.
4: The bluetooth calls are crisp and clear on the both sides.
Where did you buy yours? It doesn't seem that the manufacturer sells directly. It also seems then say w/ 1 gb w/ optinal 2gb but i don't see anyone listing this, they also show then as 800x480 w/ option for 1080x800 but again not listed.
Thanks

They have a Ownice C180 with 8gb storage, 1 gb and 800x480 screen and a C200 with 16gb storage, 2 gb and 1024*600 sceen (only the universal has a 800x480 screen)
There are 2 options, or you buy from Ownice directly or you buy bij Navall, there is no difference in hardware or so, only by the start up. Instead of Ownice you get Navall on the screen.
Big plus is that Navall has a repair depot in the UK and you don't have to pay custom taxes, if you buy by Ownice you have to send it back to china and paying in taxes if your radio comes back.
I bought my radio by Navall for that reason and there service is good
I am in the US. Iwill look into Navall. It seems they have one universal and it is oddly listed under nissan on the ownice site for some reason. Ever notice that or do you not have the universal??

Thanks for the input. Usually Parrot makes decent stuff, so it's probably issues with the base board design and the way the audio flows.
As posted on XDA and wikis, they all use the same basic board design and software loaders and make minor modifications to them. If you get into the factory config menu, you see that the unit has support for 5 or so different bluetooth chips/adapters. The only one I really had some hope for was the parrot one.

Same here. Brand new head unit and music over Bluetooth from my iPhone 7 Plus to my noting head unit sounds horrible. The music apps sound great though. Joying said there is nothing wrong with their hardware. I tried two different phones and even returned my head unit for another newer model, same bad quality Bluetooth.
I have no issues with Bluetooth music streaming but the Bluetooth phone audio quality is pretty bad at times.
I'm on latest 5.1.1 December update.
One thing that annoys me though is when I'm on a Bluetooth call the device screen is locked to dialer app so I can't navigate the other functions.
Is there a way around this?

Hey, so I bought this ainavi head unit (https://pt.aliexpress.com/item/1005002649144963.html) and so far I've been happy with it, it came with canbus box and reverse camera. So I got the idea to develop a app that could read some of the values from canbus and send them to my server for logging and what not. The thing Is I don't really know where to start, from what I've seen around here there are different types of head units (FYT, MTCB, MTCD) so my first question is how can I know what type my unit is? I've left an attachment with the info screen on the unit. Another thing, song names and radio station names dont show up on the info screen on the gauge cluster so my second question is, can it be done? I've seen a guy that did it with tasker and then "disaperared". Any help provided would be much appreciated . Thanks in advance.
EDIT: I tried looking for a service that interfaced with canbus and could't find anything that looked like it

Is it because of the low ram memory? The salesman told me not to worry because it had a Qualcomm Snapdragon octa-core chip at 1.8ghz, now I'm sure I should have just gotten at least the 4gb version, would have been worth the extra $50, you even have a 6gb/128gb version, I want to know how I can root this unit so that I can overclock the chip above 2ghz, btw I'm going to take some pictures for you, because it looks really nice!
You perform the update via the USB connection, it's about 2,6gb large file.

If I were you I wouldn't overclock the chip. You problem is with your low ram amount. I'm running stock cpu speed and everything works smoothly. Increasing the cpu freequency would only make your cpu run hotter and reduce it's lifespan. with 4gb of ram, waze and radio open I get around 52% of ram usage so yeah. Maybe sell your unit for the 4/6gb ram version

I like the old interface more, that's too futuristic for me haha. for gps antena placement I sugest you put in behind that panel, not to hard to take off and it's easy to route the wires. Just google "golf mk5(from what it seems) A pillar removal" and you will find plenty of videos. I think it's woth it for the stock look without any antenas in sight
