I have received a notice of an OTA update for my SM-G900V. I am rooted Via towel root. android version 5.0 oc4 kernel 3.4.0 I did try to accept the update and it failed.
I since have tuned off update notices in T.B. Is this update something I need or even want? Or should I just keep the update
notification turned off? I don't want to lose root. Thanks in advance to all of the members and posters and XDA in general.
I have the same phone configuration as you, android version 5.0 oc4, kernel 3.4.0, but when I attempt to run Towelroot it tells me " This phone is not currently supported". Can you help me figure out how to root mine? Or point me to a step by step instructions for dummies(me)? Thank you.

You're not trying to use towelroot on lollipop, are you?
If 5.0 is lollipop, and it is, then yes. I seem to have the same config as the OP and he indicated that he was rooted using towell root, so I was asking how he did it. Can you suggest a way to root 5.0? Thanks.

Thanks. I've only had this phone for a few weeks, and I immediately started looking for a root process to get rid of bloatware. Very confusing situation. Lots of posts about One Click Root, Towelroot, etc....all very misleading, for a noob to Samsung. I had already seen the post you suggested, but (at this point) am not terribly interested in the downgrading route. Maybe later. Keep hopeing one of the brilliant devs here will figure out a way to root without downgrading first.

This is what people don't understand: No one is working to root this phone on lollipop. There are assuredly folks working to crack the OS in general, but frankly no one cares about a legacy phone now that the S6 is out. So until L is exploited, there won't be any news for this phone.
So if your phone came with an OS lower than OE1, your only choice right now is to backup, downgrade, TR, profit. There is no one-click-root for the 900V. Honestly, just take half a day and do it. You'll be glad you did for just AdAway!
Read, reread the read again. then set aside a few hours. Good luck

nah, nah, I was full of it. Apologies. See - what the carriers don't want you to know is that there are actually TWO versions of a device - the consumer version, which is completely locked down (as it should be), and the developer version of the device. OK, yeah the developer version of a device usually costs twice as much as the consumer version - but the bootloader is unlocked, it's easy to flash away the stock, non-root consumer ROM without fear of bricking, and its APIs probably have many more functions that help with debugging and performance tuning. So as a professional developer what I need to do is trade in my Galaxy S5 consumer edition for the developer edition, and I'll be able to install MultiROM, CyanogenMod, SuperSU, and all the other developer candy.

You have to read what he wrote. If your Verizon consumer edition phone has the OE1 or OG5 build you have the locked down signed bootloader. If your Verizon consumer edition has a build prior to OE1, you can still downgrade to KitKat, root, and run a few ROMs through Safestrap or Flashfire.

Yes. Thank you but my question is how do you disable it in Titanium backup. I'm not sure what it's called or what exactly to disable. Also when I find it do I disable it by freezing? I've tried what I thought was disabling it but I still get them. So I think I must be doing something wrong

I am not new to the whole flashing and rooting process, did it for quite some time, but now reading about the A2017G version got me a bit scared, because I can't afford to lose the phone right now, and most of the methods are outdated or really unreliable. Lol everything is that way here. I 'permanently bricked' mine after I rebooted it without a system, it didn't even show the ZTE screen. Got it to life with a screwdriver and patience
Or use controllerboy's guide, which you could've used all along without even asking here
In other words, either take the plunge or stay stock. There's no 100% safe way to do this, there are a bunch of people who brick their phones while following the guides, and they brick them for no apparent reason as they were doing everything right
Mine has personal and work SIM so don't want to compromise it's use at all.

Hi since updating my oneplus 8 pro in2020 to stable build 11.0.1.1.in11aa I have lost the ability to connect to 5g on my phone, even though there were some other improvements (like battery life) I would rather downgrade to stable build 11.0.0.0. I am very new at this and my device is not rooted, is there any way to downgrade without wiping the device? I know oneplus released a downgrade package to oxygen 10, and then you can upgrade to 11 from there, but doing this would make me lose all data. Is there a simpler way to downgrade straight to 11 without the whole procedure? Thank you.
If you go for MSM which you may do, then no.
You could perhaps get a full img and go that way but I've not done this myself.
Check the MSM thread, chances are this questions been asked and answered.
Also saw a thread for 11AA too with a full zip so check that one out too.
You can use "downgrade.zip"from 11 to 10.
I don't understand why people guide you to MSM tool. That is for bricked devices and is the last resort.
Anyway downgrade will wipe youre phone clean.

Did you read my post? I tried to dissuade from using MSM!
Plus you just provided the same answer I did? In so many words.
I've always told people that MSM is an excessive resort to mundane issues, I'm far from a person who advises to use it without due diligence and an alternative that may work.
i faced same issue, follow this guide and once you done u will get your 5g Back + volte.

Just curious but what kind of lock are you using? And are all your apps up to date ?
Make sure they are compliant.
Reason I ask about the apps and lock screen is that there may have to be a certain criteria met before it allows L3
4 digit PIN may not be adequate, use 6 or a password instead. Maybe don't use facelock instead go with fingerprint.
As you're on stock I can't see anything else that could affect it.
Reboot once you've clarified everything is up to date and add it should be.
I had my phone rooted, and i wanted to come back to stock in a safe way, so i used this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...l-to-restore-your-device-to-oxygenos.4084953/
My drm was fine until a few days ago. All my apps are up to date

From what I gather it seems to be some sort of corruption with persist.img IMO. Something like the fingerprint issue... That's why it's not easy to fix per say via "conventional"ways we already know so far.... OnePlus probably will ignore this as it's a random hit and miss and most people that have the problem might not even realize unless they scrutinize Netflix.

OnePlus forum is full of complaints on L1 downgraded to L3. To be honest it's not surprising as OP' support after initially advising me on clearing data of Google Play Services and Netflix followed by reboot,. finally tipped to post feedback on OP Forum.
Hi, I just got an email from OnePlus. It works for me now.
Hi all.. The last device I rooted was an HTC EVO so it has been a while . I've been reading a lot and trying to catch up. I found both of these guides below to root the device. They both use a different approach. So I guess there's more than one way to do this, got it.. I guess I am just looking for some advice as to what is the most current/best way/safest to root the Tab S6 Lite. I have installed all updates provided by Samsung which has brought me to Android 11. I figured I should ask if the fact that I am already running android 11 could throw any monkey wrenches into the process of rooting it. It appears that Andoird 10 is expected within the guides. Can anyone recommend a guide for Android 11?
Thank you in advance.

I hate to say it, but I don't think using the discontinued TWRP is really too big of a deal. All things considered, it doesn't have too many bugs, and you can work around things like no adb sideload.
I just have a question. Do you think TWRP will ever be revived for this tablet, even an unoffifcial one? I mean, there seems to be a demand. Is it permanently discontinued or...?

No, I got stage fright at this point and figured the process isn't mature enough for my scenario, or I just didn't get pointed in the right direction. I think that part that concerned me was KNOX... something that didn't exist the last time I rooted an android phone (HTC EVO, yeah that long ago).

Thanks for replying. My S6 Lite is due to arrive today. I'll be trying to root my P610 with latest A11 firmware (US 2DUK1), with TWRP, will capture whatever I do.
Awesome! Much appreciated, I suspect there's many out there waiting for an updated guide.
I think twrp is not a good solution, check twice before flashing.
Rooted mine which is lte version, picked up latest from samfirm and patched AP with magisk, added rest of the files in odin from stock.
After flashing done, you must flash vbmeta and boot from stock packed in tar,to avoid error.
