After i installed BOB7 update (did a complete re-install) the smartlock function dont work at all. I can add places and bt device, but still have to use pattern. Did work before BOB7 (NL9 was it?)....
I am a bit unsure if the play services has ben updated just this week and thats the reason?! I always get 2 google play services stopped working at each boot.
Hate lollipop :crying:
I habe a similar problem. With my Nexus10 and my S5 smart-lock is not OK with GPS since Google Play Services 7.0.
Nexus 10 runs with Android 5.1 and the S5 with BOB7.
I wait for update of play services.

Same version 93(with suffix 436 and 438) on both devices.
With bt smartlock is ok with S5 in my car.
Urk! Google is sure messing with us with lollipop. Miss kitkat :crying:
I have .96 today. Still 2x google play services errors on startup and no smartlock functionality...
Smart-lock is OK again at Nexus10 and S5 without any change at my side.
Don't know why, but its good anyway.

I just loaded G900FXXU1BOA3 on my S5 - SM-G900F and was very disappointed to see only trusted devices in smartlock..... wanted to use trusted face / or trusted places. Played around by uninstalling updates for play services and then re-installing. At one stage the trusted places suddenly was available. I tried loading latest play services from apk mirror: 7.0.93 (1778921-438), now my trusted places has disappeared again, so it seems to be somehow part of the play services, that controls this feature I guess. Seems this feature is not properly working for a lot of people judging by forums etc.

I have found out that the reason i get two google play services has stopped errors is the smartlock. So this has to be a google play services bug.

I had this problem when I installed XtreStoLite ROM (BOB7) Coming from Stock (BOB3). Couldn't get Smart Lock to work from a trusted place (the way I use it). I did many things trying SmartLock to work, and I think one worked for me.
Here's what I did: When you open Trusted Places, usually there's a home address there, and it should work with that one, so I added one more address to my trusted places, this time using the GPS, so the address wasn't quite right (actually it's my neighbour's addres).
Then after a minute it worked. No more unlocking my phone with my fingerprint when I'm at home.
I still need to wait for a couple minutes after every boot for this to work. What I think has worked for me also, is open an app that uses GPS (e.g. Maps or any weather app) in my case I use 1Weather. I think by doing this, currently location is updated and that way Smart Lock can work.
By the way, I still get a Google Play Services has stopped on every boot.
Don't know if this will work for somebody else, but I hope it does :good:

Thanks, I just did this on my N4 and it worked. Google has always thought I lived a few houses down the street. :highfive:
I've noticed that when I'm inside my house the Trusted Places thinks I'm actually in the middle of the street so my actual location falls outside the circle of "Home".
Added a new location that covers my driveway and sidewalk, and now it works.
Seems like this issue is fixed in the .97 release of google play services and to add a second trusted place at the same spot. I have no more play services stopped at boot anymore either.

I have issues with inconsistent or I'd rather say "almost not working" Smart Lock too. I have OC4 deodexed/rooted and set up lockscreen with fingerprint/password/pin/pattern. Despite of trying to scan my fingertips several times with different angles and stuff it still works so-so for pointing fingers and kinda bad for one-handed use with a thumb! BUT I'd better keep device secured (may be with pin or pattern) in case of lost or stolen phone with all my banking info and things like that will be available right away with a swipe! Smart lock/trusted places isn't working for me! I tried to downgrade/upgrade maps, play services, remove/add nearby places like next 2-3 houses but nothing helped. And apparently gps connection/location detection doesn't work instantly and shows my location in a circle of 20 blocks or so! BT trusted devices and on-body detection doesn't seem to work either... Any known workaround or temp fix?
What I did was download a rooted stock ROM that I was already running (cnk2). I dirty flashed it onto my tmobile s5. Surprise! OK Google Everywhere! This confirms for me that Google has deliberately killed this function on their updates, I don't know of course which updates, but I would guess very possibly the search and Google App itself.
At this point I will continue to use the un-updated Google Apps, and report back on whether this adversely affects my use of the Play Store and so on.
Anyone not using Kitkat may be able to locate a ROM that contains Google Apps old enough not to have been damaged by Google. You of course flash that at your own risk. I was already using a stock ROM and flashed the same exact ROM, original version, over my running system.
If anyone would like, I can list whatever version of system app I am using that you think might be of interest in this situation.
Update
Yesterday my phone was getting really hot and the battery use showed that Google Apps was accounting for 16% of battery usage. I did some googling and found others were having this problem. I decided to see if updating Google play services would make a change. I updated:
Google app
Google play services
Google play store
Google text to speech
Google+
Afterward with testing, I still had Google Now Everywhere. My theory now is that an update of some kind that I have "leapfrogged" in this manner may have caused the loss of Google Now Everywhere. I can go into the Google app, select settings, and under voice/"ok google" detection/ I can still retrain the voice model and select "from any screen".
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3, running CyanogenMod.
I don't use google play or any google products on the phone. The phone has no google account associated with it. I use MicroG (microg.org) and Needle (github.com/moosd/Needle)
I use Lyft to get around a lot. This was working fine until recently. Now as soon as I open the app, I see a big warning that it won't work until I update google play services, and then nothing. I can't get past that.

most Devs are using GCM push in their app which wont work without Play Services.I once tried to be Google Free but I couldn't
Just what it says. I have had enough with google. Is there a rom, Cyanogen etc that can completely get me off of google?
Almost all ROMS ship without any google. You have to add the google yourself. Keep in mind with out the google crap you wont have Play Store, etc to get apps in.
You could also look into something called MicroG. Its a replacement of actual google services. The ROM has to support it but not sure which ones do.
Good luck going Google-less. Let us know what you ultimately do. I may jump ship one day too. However, I am too locked in.

Appreciate your response. I too fear I am tied to them as well. I'll look in to your suggestions. But I need apps to work. I feared that play services/market haven't really been replaced by a third party yet. I will let you know what I come up with and thanks for the jumping off point.
You might check into a debloater to help. Tomatato has a couple and xxx no limits rom. You can get rid of most of google without losing google services and alot of you other aps.

I'm Google free on Havoc right now. I've been bouncing back and forth between completely without anything Google to having play services installed (with permissions cut down and firewalled from internet access) for years. One thing I have noticed with newer ROMs, I can't delete Gboard, other keyboards won't come up with the phone just turned on lockscreen. I keep it installed (and firewalled), and use Anysoft as my default.
It kind of depends on what you're looking for - if you're open to finding all new apps, try going completely without. If you're completely dependent on some apps on play store, there are other ways to get free apps than the Google play store (f-droid, apkmirror, etc), and a lot of them do work without play services, regardless of what they say in the dependencies. You just get annoying messages sometimes.
soo..I just got an unusual notification on my 2019 fire hd10...that the play services wont run until updated? I didn't catch the entire message.
I went into the play store and the notification disappeared.
help?
I had the same thing. I cleared the notification and so far it hasn't appeared again. Everything still works.
Others have reported it, and the popular theory is that it's a harmless bug in the latest version of Google Play Services.

Playstore is not a trusted app
Always make installable copies of all your apps and current updates. The less Playstore the better... it never runs on my 10+ unless I need it.

word.
....currently getting groomed by my cat, apparently I need it?
anywho..got the notification AGAIN today, and this time I was actually able to initiate an update.
fortuitous given my tablet just updated the OS today.
I'm seeing this as well on my Fire HD 8 (2020), and it's very concerning.
I've also uninstalled Google Play Services and reinstalled the latest version of Google Play Services from APKStore (you cannot do an in-place upgrade, there's only a "deactivate" button which doesn't work).
The error goes away temporarily, but eventually returns a week or so later.
And we're not alone -- hundreds of complaints on this issue in the Reviews section of Google Play Services on the Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.gms&hl=en_US&gl=US
Is this just a temporary bug? Or is it an indication that the little "secret" of sideloading Google Play Store is over, at least if you want to use your Fire to play games requiring Google Play? Wonder if Google and Amazon are finally saying "no more?" I hope not.
...I think the fact most of us are running the play store in manual update only mode is the problem. it cant auto update the play services, and thus coughs up this error?

Playstore will let you know when you go to Playstore if it needs updating. I've package block and run Playwhore on manual update only for over 1.5 years with no problem.
All it's parent apps need to be running at boot up ie Google play Services. You may need to delete and recreate your Google account if it really goes off the rails. Reboot, reboot, reboot...

Thank you. I thought the same thing, so I reset Fire and set Store to auto update everything (except Kindle and Alexa).
Still getting error.
My App Details for Google Play Services shows:
App installed from Google Play Store
version 21.33.13 (100300-393339024)

it was a thought, that said after I was FINALLY presented the option to update the service its not done it again.
also..I've owned FOUR samsung tablets over the years and every single last one of them, without fail, whenever playstore has had an update, I've had to manually initiate the update, it patently REFUSES to do so on its own, and thats AFTER running every troubleshooting known to man AND consulting samsung support.
its an android thing apparently ^^;

I rarely use Playstore. Updates there are set to wifi only, and wifi is always disabled.
Samsung tech support is useless.
Try googling the error codes.
I use ApkExport to make installable copies of my apps so on a reload no Playstore needed.
You can also use those copies to load other devices... if you want.
I was able to go into the play store and tap on 'update' on the play services.
-shrugs- it worked, thats all I cared about.
Play Store is telling me 21.30.16 is the latest version of Google Play Services and I'm up to date. APK Mirror is showing newer versions, though. Weird.
