Randomly I'll have an issue where the dialer stops working and short of a factory reset I'm at a loss. Maybe someone smarter than me can figure this out. Phone is not rooted stock and I may just go ahead and reset/root but before I go nuclear I'd prefer to see if I can fix this.
First off the problem is random. It can go without doing it for days or come up quickly. Once it comes up it'll persist until phone is rebooted. I can open the dialer and everything works fine until I go to make a phone call. When I go to place the call and I have all the icons (speaker, keypad, hang up, etc) on the screen is when the phone dialer crashes. None of the buttons work. The call will go through and stay running but it eventually punts you back out to the dialer screen as if you hung up (I can see call log etc) but I'm still stuck on the phone call I dialed out on. There's no way to hang up unless the other party does or if I put phone in airplane mode. If someone tries to call me the phone rings but nothing shows on the screen so I cannot pick up the phone call. Opening the dialer app it's as if no one is calling. I just see call log, contacts, keypad to dial, etc.
How I've tried to fix:
1.) I tried clearing data/cache in phone and contacts app no fix
2.) I tried installing a 3rd party dialer (Google dialer) and the same behavior happens which leads me to believe it's something outside the dialer app itself. If so what?
3.) It's completely random. Yesterday it did it multiple times, even sometimes within 10 minutes or so after a reboot. There are other times I can go for days without this being an issue.
4.) I have two OnePlus 8 Pro devices. Only one of them does this (mine). My wife's phone is fine. This makes me believe it's a software glitch. Short of me doing a factory reset any suggestions? Obviously if it persists after a factory reset I'm going to RMA the phone because likely a hardware issue at that point.
Okay help. See video. Number I called wasn't busy and someone picked up hence I cut the video short.

Hi,
I faced this problem too often, so I ask on this forum to know if it only happens to me:
when I end the call, telephone programs stucks. In the top bar, the indication of an on going call is still there. Everything is working except telephone application. I can't open the telephone options. Even if I turn on Airplane mode, the phone logo in the top bar remains.
Any idea?
I had that problem once. Did it occur when you dialed a number not in your phone book? It turned out the prompt for saving a new dialed number was still there but I somehow couldn't access it. Perhaps turn that setting off?
no, it was an outgoing call to someone in my phonebook. (at least in my last problem)
facing the same problem. after ending a call the phone app freeze a couple of minutes and sometimes more than ten minutes
Did you installed the HTC patch to avoid the freeze ?
I didn't.
Could it be usefull there ?
This is really annoying if you have to wait 10mn before doing an another call !
Problem happened again
The problem happened again yesterday.
But worse. I was leaving a message on an answering machine. and I couldn't end the call !
Pressing the right key (end call) had no effect !
Usually in my previous problems, the other user was ending the call.
So I had to switch off the phone in comm manager !
I'm surprised that no one else faced this problem !
I tried to follow one's advice to wait then until phone gets back to normal. (release the phone icon in the top bar).
After one hour, I finaly rebooted the phone to be able to do an outgoing call.
Help !
Phone blocks during or after a call
Hello guys and girls
I had the same problem last week, a couple of times in a row, I was on the phone with a contact, after a couple of minutes I couldn't hear anything anymore and tried to end the call but no joy, a soft reset did the thing the first time, the second I waited a couple of minutes wich worked aswell. It was very annoying I must say especially as it happened 4 times in a row...
Hoping for a solution

It seems a bug. You can press volume up/down buttons on the device itself to open the volume bar screen. After that just press somewhere on the grey area to go back to home screen. The top bar will restore from the phone application.
It's not the top bar. The phone application is completely unavailable.
We see the top bar,but the phone icon is stuck. Like if we were still on call.
I too have a similar problem.
Although I haven't particularly logged the prolems, I think that it only happens on incoming calls, and not outgoing ones.
During a phone call, the incoming sound just goes mute, and afterwards I can't hang up the call.
I reckon I have lost well over half the calls I have received because of this.
Luckily, not many people call me!!
I reckon this is a CRAP phone, and am seriously thinking of getting a REAL phone, and just using the HD as a PDA device. Good old HTC!!!!!!
I edited the title of this topic.
The phone app is really stucked : I called an answering machine, I wasn't able to end the call !
Help !
I am thinking of changing ROM.
When phone is in standby:
1. Incoming call
2. I answer - quiet! Time counter go on, but I can't hear caller and caller can't hear me. Push "End Call" button.
3. Screen and keys not respond! Can't be switched off. The whole phone locks up.
4. I have to remove back cover and soft reset!!!
I have Htc Rom 1.66.
Can anybody else report if they have or had this problem?
Did anybody find a solution?
My phone has been in by HTC already 3 times for repair!!! They keep sending it back saying that problem is solved, but it's not!!!
You could be having notification queue issues. Try the solution in the thread "HD2 died- or did it" and see if that works for you.
WB
I don't think its a queue issue because this happens even after a hard reset.
Could it be that some program corrupts Rom so that the problem even happens after Hard reset?
I doubt it. However it is just as likely that you may have installed a piece of software that is, how shall we say, not behaving itself properly.
If I were you I would hard reset (backup your data first) then install your contacts. If you can, use the phone for a day or so without anything else loaded and see what happens.
I would not dismiss the notification queue issue at all. Causes more hassle in winmobile than anything else I know!
Let us know how you get on.
WB
This happens even after a hard reset and no software no contacts no alarms and nothing in calendar.
I know that its not hardware problem because when I make call or if I answer call when not in standby, then phone behaves normally and doesn't lock up.
I had that problem aswell, I´m using a Danish ROM, and had Co0kiemonsters version with 20 quicklinks installed. After I removed that program it worked without any probs.
Remove all programs U have on Your phone or Re install/upgrade that´s faster than removing the progs.
Instal those programs U had before your problems started. and test what might not work with your ROM
locks during call
Mine has started doing the same thing - locking during an incoming call or I can't disconnect after making a call unless I soft resent. The only think I have added recentently is HD2 tweak
I just installed Google Voice on my Epic 4G and received my first phone call on it - and was unable to answer. Two problems - first, when I answered, the greeting telling me to press "1" to accept was cut off at the beginning (all I heard was '...all from [spoken voice]. Press 1 to accept".
I can get past that, but then when I pulled up the dial pad to press 1, I was unable to. I pounded on the "1," was sure it was showing up, but it would not answer the call. I tried enabling audible touch tones but that didn't work, and I don't think there's a setting on the epic to change between long/short touch tones.
Does anyone know what's going on with this?

I think the second problem is a bug. It's not related to google voice but the phone itself. The dialpad is not very responsive when you take the phone off your face and the screen is back on. Wait a few seconds, and it'll be back again.
It happened all the time when I called any customer service number and tried to use the dialpad to choose in the menu.
Bigger problem

I never had the phone to my face when I did my test calls - this was always phone in my hand and calling from my office phone.
I think I just came across a bigger problem - the dialpad doesn't work on incoming calls. I just called my phone from my office on the regular (not G-voice) number and pushed a bunch of buttons, and couldn't hear the tones.
You can disable the initial greeting and go straight to the call when you pick up. It is under Voice Setting in your google voice account. I know this doesn't address your unresponsive screen issue, but it's a temporary work around until your dialpad gets fixed.

Is this actually a bug? I posted another thread here and am trying to have people verify whether or not this is a real issue - if it's not a bug then I definitely need to replace the phone, 'cuz it's been factory reset as of last night.
my dial pad is missing when calling someone. screen flashes and the call screen is lost. but the call is normal.
a few times phone opened automaticly coming call. I checked all call settings, there is no anormal setting, please help.
I tried all versions rom. 2.1, 2.2, omg, chayogen etc. now I'm using 2.1 update, kernel leshak 2.6.29, lk2.08.1 samdroid
I have the same problem!
I have the same problem. It started about 3 days ago for no reason. When you press the call button after entering a number, the screen goes black and all the three buttons at base (back, windows and search) are not responsive. There is nothing you can do...you can't hangup or enter numbers until the other party hangs up, unless you reboot. (You can still talk and make the call as normal).
I tried rebooting, took battery out and also did a factory reset but nothing has resolved the problem.
However, I did find a workaround: flip phone over so it goes into speaker mode and then the dialpad becomes visible and you can end the call or use number pad, but you have to keep phone flipped over all the while. Another workaround is to use a Bluetooth headset when making or answering calls. Then the dialpad is always visible as normal.
If anyone knows what to do please respond!
there is no hope (from xda)
I decided to go service...(its doesnt matter I tried al versions rom, I hate this phone, enough, I tired to reload rom vs.)
doesn't actually seem to matter which firmware I'm running but here's the issue;
phone rings in my pocket, take the phone out then try to slide the button (on screen) to answer the call, but the screen completely freezes (as do the soft buttons) like the phone has completely locked-up.
only once it's stopped ringing (missed call) can you switch it off (soft-off, screen, standby, whatever) and then switch it back on again and it starts functioning normally. trouble is I've missed the call regardless.
wondering if anyone's had this issue (didn't see another similar thread) and if there's a likely cause, and solution.
if I'm the only one then perhaps there's a hardware fault.
also is there a relatively simple way to replace the call-handling software, or am I stuck with the native one.

I had this same issue, I was using a live wallpaper, when I went back to a standard wallpaper my defy no longer froze and screen went blank during calls.
Sorry, this is a year late!

Have a similar problem with my Defy; an incoming call "rings" but the screen remains inactive (black) so the call cannot be answered. This is an intermittent problem; I'll play with the wallpaper and let you know.
