Bypass Lock Screen on Samsung Galaxy S5 Active - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been trying for months to find a solution to my specific problem to no avail, so I'm hoping to find some help here. I have a samsung galaxy s5 that used to belong to my husband. (he's now deceased). Well one night one of his friends thought it would be funny to change his lockscreen PIN as a joke. Only, his friend was f*ckd up on xanis that night and while putting in the new code, he mistyped the numbers he meant to put in, and (amazingly) mistyped them AGAIN when "confirming new PIN", yet the numbers entered on both screens matched so it successfully changed the password. I have tried so many possible combinations but cant get it unlocked. My husband never used a google account or samsung account on any of his devices, so that's not an option. I have tried to use ADB but I'm assuming USB Debugging is not enabled on the device because it does not show in the list of devices when powered on; however it will show if booted into recovery mode and selected "Apply update via ADB" from bootloader menu. There are videos and pictures of my husband on the device that I'm trying to retrieve so I don't want to perform a factory data reset.
So basically I need a way to unlock the phone
-without losing data
-without using google account
-without using samsung account
-without usb debugging enabled
-without paid software
OR
Someway to enable USB debugging while being lock out of the phone.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Sorry for your loss!
Would you be able to pull files from the phone while in "Apply update via ADB"-Mode?
I would try to fastboot twrp recovery and see what would be possible from there. Of course you are out of luck if the phone is encrypted and the code is being used as the password...
What sometimes also works is to let his friend try out some combinations he would set.... maybe even in the same condition
Otherwise there are some professional forensic methods to mitigate the screenlock / encryption. But these do cost a lot.

Install twrp, go to mount, mount system, data. Go to file manager. Go to data/system/ remove any file with .key extension and locksettings.db file.
Reboot phone. The screen will display PIN lock, enter any PIN. It should unlock.

That's too bad because the SM-G870A is the AT&T branded & locked bootloader version & you cannot install a custom recovery on it like TWRP which could be used to retrieve the content of /data/media/0/ a.k.a the internal sdcard.
You could try this XDA site search: site:forum.xda-developers.com/ SM-G870A twrp
Your only chance is to have that "friend" to try unlock the device.

I found twrp on this site https://twrpbuilder.github.io/downloads/twrp/
Unpack.

I know that using TWRP you can remove screen lock IF the device is not encrypted & posted often about it like in How To Remove Lockscreen Settings for example.
Instead of posting some random TWRP package I challenge you to find a credible post on XDA of a successful custom recovery install on a SM-G870A.

Ok, i try

If I was going to try the recovery posted above, how would I install it onto the phone since I can't get in through ADB?

When I reboot to bootloader, and it takes me to odin mode, this is what the screen says:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SM-G870A
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Official
REACTIVATION LOCK: OFF
KNOX WARRANTY VOID: 0x0
QUALCOMM SECURE BOOT: ENABLE (CSB)
AP SWREV: S1, T2, A1, A2, P1
SECURE DOWNLOAD: ENABLE
UDC START
Dont know if this would help determine where I stand in my chances of getting in there and recovering the files?

It's been a while that I was working with Samsung phones, but I think this means the bootloader is still locked.
To flash TWRP or anything else you would need to unlock the bootloader, which wipes the phone.
I do not see any chance in rescuing the data without pricey forensic tools.

[Q] Bypass screenlock on S4 (CAN VERIFY IM THE OWNER, WILLING TO PAY FOR HELP!!)

Hey Guys,
First post on here I have read the site alot though, I've rooted and installed CM yadda yadda from the help of this site. Otherwise complete n00b hence the willing to pay thing.
OK FIRST IS FIRST, I AM THE OWNER of this phone, I can verify that by taking a picture of the background which has my girlfriend on it and then another picture with me and her and then another picture with me writing on a sign XDA Developers or whatever. I bought the phone new so am Only user of it.
OK the story. There is a very intimate home video me and the girl took on the phone. Now after that i changed the pin because didnt want the house mate (who knew the pin) stumbling across it (Phone was only used for home as I swapped hands for a Blackberry q10) so the phone went away as I got a playbook for free with the phone. ANNNNNYWAYYYY we have moved and now living in Thailand (formerly Australia) and we wanted to watch ourselves in action or unaction . Now I cant for the life of me remember the PIN ive tried everything for days and days on end.
Now I have done a bit of research, because Im in Thailand now, I have no Internet access on the S4, so downloading that app from the Play Store is out of the question. I read it was regarding a different phone that you could use odin install cm then backup data or something along those lines. I would like clarification from someone or if someone is willing to spend 10 minutes on skype running me through it i'd happily pay for their time. I dont want to risk loosing all my data, especially the vid
I suppose another question would be can i do a backup through odin without installing cm that i could transfer onto sd? All the current data is on the device (No SD installed) or is there a program you can run that would trick it into thinking its got its old password (the one im sure of)?
I'm sure I could find a thai expert on phones but wouldnt trust them with my data in hands reach.
I appreciate your help in advance, and if this is not ok for public discussion I would be more than happy to receive a PM.
Like I said I can verify my identity and proof of being the owner
If your Phone is rooted as u said, y dont u simply Use Aroma FileManager to backup your data and then install a fresh One. Its Simple
Thanks for your quick reply! really appreciated. But I dont think it applies to me, To be honest I think I flashed back to stock or a lite rom, It seems to be telling me that from the start up screens:
Recovery:
Android system recovery<3e>
options are
reboot
apply update from ADB
apply update from external storage
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache
apply update from cache.
And When I press power and up I get
ODIN MODE
Product name: GT-19505
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Official
KNOX KERNEL LOCK: 0x0
KNOX WARRANTY VOID: 0x1
CSB-CONFIG-LSB: 0x30
Write Protection: Enabled
eMMC BURST MODE: enabled
Is there another way to install Aroma File manager?
I apologize for being so naive, I have really no idea.
If it's only the video you that you want then do this:
Flash a custom recovery true Odin. Like this recovery if you have the i9505 http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/182
Select wipe > factory reset (make sure to pick the right one or it will wipe your sd)
Reflash the rom you want.
If you don't pick the wrong option in the recovery then you still have your data on your internal sd card.

Ok, so by selecting wipe > factory reset would it not restore to factory everything, including the data and video.?
I dont like the chances of "if you dont pick the wrong option"

If you have TWRP recovery then you can peform a factory reset. If you go to the wipe menu you see it's stated there: (not including internal storage).
You dont need any custom rom, just flash TWRP Recovery or CWM Recovery, Flash the SuperSU, then use AROMA filemanager.. no need to factory reset
Since your Phone has KNOX 0x1, warranty void, go ahead and flash the above mentioned files..
Flash via ODIN http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/i9500/openrecovery-twrp-2.7.0.0-i9500.tar

Ok, Downloaded all the needed files, phones been connected in download mode with odin running but not recognising the phone? When I downloaded the Drivers all I did was press install then restart, there is now a file in Program Files full of seperate Samsung drivers, I am not sure are these meant to be placed in the system32/drivers folder? I also downloaded Kies to update drivers as per recommendation elsewhere.
I am using 3.07 ODIN, the USB is charging the phone but ODIN hasn't recognised it. Note: Kies Is NOT running.
please tell me if im doing the correct steps
1. Start up Odin
2. Put phone into Download mode
3. Once in download mode connect to USB
?
go to system properties, Device manager and see if you have any unrecognized hardware, install proper odin drivers..

It's simple if you want backup ur data. You dont need a PIN for it:
1. Flash a STOCK ROM through ODIN.
2. Power ON ur device till the Bypass screenlock (wait 15 seconds).
3. Conect ur phone to the PC through the USB conector.
4. You will receive one popup window avising u what u wanna do. Select OPEN FOLDERS.
5. If you don't receive the popup is other thing. Having your device conected on Bypass Screenlock -> Press Windows Key + R in ur pc -> devmgmt.msc and press ENTER. Attach a screenshot and we take a look the yellow admirations you have there.

Secret mode in Samsung browser gone after root

Your private mode must be enabled already. That's why. To enable private mode, you need a pin / fingerprint.

Samsung decided with marshmallow to disable that feature if the Knox flag was triggered. You need the modded apk which removes this check.

I would recomend you to download a custom rom which has the modded apk, extract the apk from the rom, delete yours and reboot. Then put the modded apk in the exact place where the original was, put rw-r-r permissions and reboot

I would still like to know if this is possible to implement. I'm currently using ther superman ROM which doesn't have the modded apk, I talked with the developer and he will look into it, but this is a very important feature for me and I really need it.

Even if you flash the original firmware, you will not be able to use the security features anymore (in some custom roms, some features do work). Once you root, the knox flag changes permanently!

Forgot to activate OEM-Unlock for Root. Phone Bricked: "Custom binary blocked by FRP"
Hello,
today i rooted my J5 (SM-J500FN) via Odin and CF-Auto-Root.
Everyting went well but after the root i unticked OEM-Lock (please dont ask me why i did it) and restarted my phone and this nice screen greeted me: "Custom binary blocked by FRP. SECURE FAIL: KERNEL"
So I tried everything I found on the Web and found nothing really helpful. Then i tried flashing the recovery and reflashing CF-Auto-Root but both got blocked in the Download Mode with the message "FRP Block".
Please can someone help me, i really hope i dont have to reset my phone because my google authenticator is stored on it, and it would be a real pain to write to the support of every account i connected to reset my Security Options.
Thanks, Toby
P.S: when i flash the boot.img does it wipe my device?

When activating the oem unlock you can install Twrp, kernel or custom rom without the activation of FRP security that is activated when you establish a security pattern in the device
When the binary is blocked by the FRP you must install the factory firmware, then enter the recovery and do a factory reset since the FRP prevents external access to the system and data as prevention
You will be prompted for the email and password of the previously used account

Yes this is true - it is a new security thing that Samsung is diong - probably will be doing on all phones. (Started on the Note 8)
It is called "RMM STATE" - If you don't see OEM unlock in Developer Settings, you will need to wait 7 days - once you see it again - then you can flash TWRP - but to prevent it from continuing to be a problem you need to also flash a fix for the RMM State -
for a detailed description of what it means and what you can do about it - go here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75360965&postcount=22
Just updated to OREO and OEM unlock option has completely dissapeared. Do I unfailingly need to wait 7 days to flash TWRP? If I had to, how could I do it without reseting the phone? I mean... To get into download mode and flash TWRP I need to power off the phone, needn't I?
Help please

After 7 days, 160 hours, go to developer settings and turn OEM Unlock ON - once that is on, you can flash twrp. From this point you are set - but if you flash a custom rom, it is going to go back to the LOCK State again.
TO avoid that, yoiu need to follow the steps that I linked to in the post above your original pots - click the link to the page that explains the RMM State and the fix yoiu can flash to keep it from happening again.
Good Luck - I am in the same situation - 3 days and counting.....

hello everybody. I got interested about this problem since my friends @yahia angelo and @corsicanu got the "only official released binaries are allowed to be flashed" problem, so we decided to search deeply about this. We found out that this problem isn't related to frp/oem unlock (even if enabled same problem comes), but to a new prop that you can see in download mode (rmm state: Prenormal). By searching in system, seems this prop is related to a new "thief" protection samsung added in latest firmwares. Let's make an example: You get the device, setup google account, all good... Then someone steals the device and wipes it... Ok. After wipe he boots, but he can't pass the setup without internet, and when he connects to internet it asks for your google account, since your account is saved in frp partition, so he can't setup. This rmm state is more than that simple frp, as it doesn't allow him to flash custom binaries to remove frp. So now let's cut to the chase: Who still doesn't have this rmm lock can avoid to get the device locked by following these two simple steps:
1. in build.prop, make sure "ro.security.vaultkeeper.feature" property is set to 0, like this:
Code:
sys.use_fifo_ui=0
ro.wsmd.enable=true
ro.security.vaultkeeper.feature=[color="blue"]0[/color]
keyguard.no_require_sim=true
ro.carrier=unknown
2. remove rlc app. To do this go in "/system/priv-app" folder with a root file manager or with twrp file manager and remove "rlc" folder.
For those who unfortunately has rmm state set to "prenormal", as this user reports, seems that by keeping your phone running without shut it off/reboot, at a certain device running time value rmm state prop will set again to "normal", so you can flash custom binaries again, if it works to you make sure to follow the above steps to not get locked again, i'll keep you guys updated about this when there will be news.
Edit:
In attachments now you can find a zip that does the job for you. So when rmm state is set back to "normal", flash a custom recovery and then flash this zip file to avoid lock again

...................odin flash fails fixed 100% solutions..................explanation to why odin fails
when your s8/ s8+ is forced rebooted by holding the power and volume down buttons or crash reboots. And when booting into download mode for some reason download mode is locked or corrupted and odin will fail even if you use official device specific firmware. So follow the steps below to fix
how to fix!
1. Boot into download mode by pressing ( power + volume down + bixby button) and stop at the screen of continue and reboot.
2. Press volume down to restart phone
3. Quickly boot back into download mode by pressing (power + volume down + bixby button)
4. Press continue
5. Congratulations fully working now

Custom Binary Blocked by FRP Lock on Custom Rom - don't want to lose data

Hi guys! I got Custom Binary Blocked by FRP Lock while doing idk what, probably i've unticked smth in developers options. I wasn't prepared for this so I haven't made any backup via TWRP. After reading there and there found that flashing in Odin AP, BL, CP and Home_CSC woun't delete my data, right? But I have a custom rom installed on my phone, so, after flashing those files, will my S7 return to stock form even if I flash Home_CSC? Is there any way to not lose data (factory reset) + keeping the custom rom, and get rid of FRP Lock?

If you don't even know that turning off oem unlock will result in custom binary block error, how did you even flashed a custom rom at first place ?
Like seriously man, this is a very basic and first step to enable oem unlock before doing anything to your phone and you disabled it ? And you say you unticked 'something' ? If you don't even know what those options meant why you messed them in first place ..
And no, don't even try flashing with HOME csc on a custom rom ! , I don't think they is any back up option for you to save your data now ..

But there are too many ) and can't keep up with all details even if I note them. I flash things monthly.
Btw where is OEM unlock in Pie?
Thing is, i've read some bullsh*t about securing the twrp, and got me in a point of unticking Developer options, then all went wrong.

You never supposed to untick 'enable oem unlock' , if you do you invite the trouble.
What you wanted or was doing exactly that prompted you to do this ? What's 'securing' twrp exactly ?
OEM unlock is always in developer options in the settings..
And pls keep upto date with the details and flashing stuff if you don't want to get yourself in trouble.. search is your best friend mate.. Good luck

Thank you for advice.
I was thinking to get my recovery (and download mode) secured with a pin or pattern, in case of my phone gets stolen or I loose it. Is it even possible?

Recovery - maybe. Download mode - highly unlikely.
Lol I never even heard about such things being available ..
I think twrp has a password protect feature maybe.. but dunno if any such thing is for download mode ..

I'm thinking if download mode can't be secured with a pin or pattern, then securing recovery with a code is useless.

Nope no way as adb method to unlock bootloader doesn't works on samsung, and if it did it would still wipe all your data so not worth the hassle..
Reflash stock rom using odin. And begin from start..
