Hi, I have a question about encryption: I formatted data when installing a custom ROM. Now in TWRP, I have to enter my pattern to decrypt the phone.
a. This means my phone is encrypted, right?
b. Which .zip can I use for Disable Force Encryption?
c. Is there a way to force Disable Force Encryption now during the use of a custom ROM (I want to change to another ROM without formatting data, if possible).
Thx, tempe

If you flash Orangefox recovery you can check Disable Force Encryption in settings -> OTA, so when you change ROM it automatically decrypt your phone everytime

Thanks. I'm on TWRP, though. Is there something similar as well?

Does that mean it actually disables encryption, or that it decrypts just before you flash system?

That's strange you want to disable encryption when your phone has a twrp installed.
That leads your phone to be like open book if you loose it!
I am sure you know what you are doing!

Hello everyone!
I am wondering how to enable encryption of my P9 Lite running Nougat B370. My phone is rooted, bootloader unlocked and TWRP installed, if that is relevant.
In the menus I don't find any option to encrypt my phone. So, anyone knows if it is possible?
If you mean data encryption, it is already encrypted.

You sure about that? Because TWRP can access my data partition without pin...
Is there any way to check whether disk encryption is truly enabled?

It's encrypted unless you unencrypted it with twrp but the latest update of twrp (nouget) lets you backup data unlike twrp on MM.

It's strange though, I've never unencrypted my phone with twrp. But when I boot into twrp my whole data partition is open for access without any sort of password/pin. Seems to me there is no encryption active.
TWRP can mount data partition, but it does not mean that it is able to decrypt it.
It can backup/restore or format it which is what usually what a TWRP do, if you install a custom ROM like LOS you will need to format it because the system can't decrypt it while stock ROM can do it.

What I meant by my post is not only that twrp can mount the data partition. I can also access all my files within said data partition.
Hi, ive been wondering why all those roms folks put out are unable to encrypt the /data partition.
Any rom i tried so far is soft rebooting after i invoked the encryption option. No encyption happening at all.
And if i do it manually via adb shell > su # vdc cryptfs enablecrypto wipe password somethingpw
I sort of soft brick the device boot until i whipe the data partion via twrp.
Thereof i am wondering why its broken in the first place and if theres a chance if folk will fix this over time or any 3rd Party Roms will be stuck w/o a chance to encrypt personal data.

I was facing issues with my LOS 15.1, afaik unencrypted. Then I flash stock Oreo Feb using Mi Flash tool, with option 'clean all and lock'. Then I root it with magisk and flash LOS 15.1. The next thing I know, my phone is encrypted

Thank You, for confirming that Encryption works, i was almost at the verge of returning the phone.
Got it to work now.
....
The tldr of all i tested and messed around with is:
If you whipe Data trough twrp, with the special dialog where you have to type in YES. which folk reccomend to use to remove encryption,
will mean you brick the encryption and requires a re-flashing of the stock rom.
Secondly if you only go into advanced whipe, Art, System and data and then install a rom, it should say 'decrypted with default password'
Which is a dead give away that encryption might going to work just fine, rebooted into bootloader w/o into system, installed gapps pico, (eeh) and magisk, which also mentioned something about encryption as the log ran trough. Then rebooted into system, and now it says encrypted. And i can set up a boot pin/password before it fully boots. GREAT!
Soo.... If it says decrypted and won't encrypt, you have to flash stock, check its encrypted. Then install costum rom without removing encryption.
Once you removed it, its back to stock rom for new a /data setup/encryption.
I'm sorry if this is posted again but I can't find anything about my problem.
My Mi A1 in unrooted.
I had installed gcam without rooting it to continue receiving OTA, after the latest update I wanted to disable gcam. During the process the application unlocked the bootloader but didnt lock it again.
When I disabled it after the reboot my phone did a factory reset and enrypted itself. I want to decrypt my phone so I used some ways I found on the internet like:
Simple factory reset.
Locked bootloader.
Factory reset again, even though after the lock it did it itself.
Flashed fastboot stock rom.
Flashed twrp read only, wiped system and flashed fastoboot stock rom again!
Still the phone forced encrypt itself after every way I tried:
For gcam I used this way: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a1/how-to/tool-google-camera-root-magisk-enable-t3747585
I didn't check the thread because I already had the app to do the installation.
For fastboot installation I used this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a1/how-to/ota-official-fastboot-image-n2g47h-7-12-t3728929
EDIT: What if I unlock the bootloader with MiUnlock and relock it via fastboot?
Phone is encrypted by default. Why would you want to have it decrypted? But if you insist.. you have to install magisk, disable forced encryption and reformat data partition in TWRP.
Locking or unlocking the bootloader after May update wipes your data, this is normal for Android and now our phones.
Encryption is default, it would have been encrypted before the wipe as it is now after the wipe, why do you want it unencrypted?

Thank you very much, I never experienced this again after unlocking so I thought it was because of the encrypt, I hadn't checked if it was encrypted before the wipe and I assumed it wasn't.

I didn't know the phone was encrypted by default.
Thank you for the possible way though.
Yeah, it is encrypted by default and hw encryption is used. So don't think that it can affect your performance in any way.

Keep Magisk installed, otherwise it will probably get encrypted again by stock boot image. Not sure, I didn't try it.. I want my data secure.
Hi All,
I need to remove the encryption on my G5 plus device. Can anybody please help? I have unlocked the bootloader and am rooted on the debloated stock as well.
Because of this, I am unable to flash certain Pie Roms. I have tried the below options:
Option - 1:
Go to wipe, advanced wipe, select partition DATA, change it to ext4....
Reboot to recovery
Format data
Option - 2:
1. Boot to Twrp Recovery
2. Do a Factory Reset, Internal Storage Wipe
3. Reboot to Recovery Again
4. Hurray We have Removed the Encryption
Both the above methods are not working. Please help

Boot to twrp<wipe<format data<yes done. Now you're encryption should be removed. don't just format by sliding.there should be a option for format data then it ask type yes. Enter yes, then your done. encryption should be removed.
Easiest option flash magisk. I have faced this many times nothing works than i flash magisk it remove encryption.

Nope. I guess it doesn't work that way. Currently, I am on Debloated Stock ROM and have also flashed Magisk, but still am seeing that my phone is encrypted.

In my case it was important to not reboot between formatting data (back to F2FS with the "yes" option, not just slide) and flashing magisk. If that doesn't work for you you can try to flash a no-verity-force-encryption.zip, should be found in several flashing and rooting guides.
So I updated magisk 23 --> 24.1 directly from the app, after reboot, wifi isnt working but data is. So I reboot again and now it asks for a decryption password which I dont know (i tried pin code).
I need help. I dont wanna lose all the data.+

Did you tell magisk to keep encryption and not to disable dm-verity when updating? This happens when your device was encrypted and a flash removes encryption data. Some time ago I saw a flashable zip for Orange Fox which allegedly decrypted data from recovery, but I think your best bet would be to format data

I was using phone as normal with orange fox recovery and root with magisk v21.xxx, and without encryption in phone (I am not sure if Orange fox has encrypted any data or partition?!)
Then I upgrade magisk to v25 through magisk manager app, and got the problem.

If you were using stock MIUI and used any means to lock your phone like fingerprint or pin, then you device was encrypted. You could try following this guide to see if you can disable decryption but i remember trying once and i had to format.

Actually I have formatted device and try to install magisk again (without any password setup for device: pattern, pin, finger print) but the same trouble appear again.

Then you could try starting fresh. Make sure you are using latest OrangeFox. Format data (not just wiping) and install your rom. Then flash magisk apk (or zip) from recovery and reboot
