I've done a whole battery of video recording comparisons with my Moto an HTC droids. My main findings are thus:
1. Moto video is much smoother and the light balancing is also sm oother. I find that the Incredible videos are very jumpy and the light brightness also shifts very ruggedly. It is mildly better when I record at the 640x480 instead of 800x480.
2. The video data rates are nearly twice as large on the Moto droid (approx 3600kbps) than the incredible (approx 2000kbps)
3. Audio bit rates are significantly better on the Moto. 98kbps vs 12kbps for the Incredible.
Now, am I just crazy, or has anyone else noticed this? I mean, I almost get sick just watching the jumpy video for the incredible, but video from the Moto seems so smooth.

no way. the moto droid noise level is so high when recording.
I'm really having a hard time appreciating much of a difference in noise levels. What about the jumpiness I am speaking of? Trust me, I want to believe that the Incredible is better, but I'm just not seeing it. Audio is hands down better on the Moto. Maybe I can link some sample videos later if I get time.

I wonder if HTC has some work to do here. I even saw the moto droid vs DI picture article online.
I have both, so I did an informal test, and the DI has some color cast, but it has more detail to work with in Adobe CS.
I also noticed that it's not sharpening like it should. For those in the DSLR realm, take a raw file.... you have to sharpen it or basically "post process" it for sharpening.
I don't want to take these steps, hopefully HTC will step up here. Get the function down in the phone and you will have much better pics than anything out there in it's class
Good points, and I agree that photos give more detail to work with, but I'm speaking soley about the video quality.

Check out this link for a good video comparison. Seems I'm not just going crazy, but that the Motorola actually does record video better than the Incredible. What a shame.
When looking at the video, take note of how the vehicles driving by are "jerky". I can't understand why this is the case when the Incredible supposedly records at a higher frame rate. Does anyone know if this kind of thing can be addressed in a future software update??

720p
I believe that the Moto Driod does DVD Quality 720p HD in its specs, where our phone MAY have the hardware capability, but the software has not been configured that way. Hopefully when we're rooted, and someone created a custom rom, that will be fixed
If the HTC Evo can record 1280x720 video with an 8MP Sensor, can the Incredible do the same with some software trickery?
i would imagine so, theres lower spec phone cameras out there that do it iirc. It bewilders me why htc wouldn't add it by default.
maybe with a root?
I was wondering this as well since they have what appears to be the same camera.
Sent from my ADR6300 using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
i hope so. it's weird HTC would leave this out. I hope some rooting can fix this. Maybe it will be able to do 720 output too through USB instead of 480
Right now it has difficulty doing 800*480 without intermittent stuttering. I'm not sure what's causing it, but hopefully they can get that sorted out and then add in the higher resolution. Of course, you do realize that you will never get great quality HD with such a small lens and short focal length.

same chip so the hardware is there, just need the software.
Are you sure it has the same video encoder? You can't simply go on the Snapdragon name.
The Nexus 4 is awesome.... but the Camera is driving me nuts. It's the only reason why I haven't bought this phone yet and wonder wether the S3 or Nexus 4 is better for me.
When making pictures the difference isn't that big.. but ad video recordings the Nexus 4 is terribly bad.
So I wonder, since both have a 8MP camera, could get Nexus 4 camera become better by an optimized Android OS? E.g. in the next update?
I have seen a simliar happening with my HTC Desire HD.
Or is the camera simply not as good in the Nexus 4 compared to the S3 ?
Thanks

Maybe a bit , but not much. And yes the sensor in the s3 is much better.

I personally think the camera is good for what it is. The photos I take are easy to edit if needed.
I think software updates could optimize the camera a little better but not by much, if you are looking to make an improvement to the camera, try out the mod in the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2039553
I guess I have to decide then:
Can I live with bad video recordings ?
Can I live with acceptable pictures ?
Generally my smartphone is the only camera, means even when selling stuff on ebay, making self portrait or pictures of ANYTHING -> I will use the smartphone
I honestly don't record videos that often tho.
Depends what you use your camera for. The pictures I take either go up on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook. I'm just a casual picture taker. And no one has yet to complain on the quality of them, they are clear enough for the average joe. Besides, the difference between N4 and S3 pic quality isn't that huge.
Now if you're using it to actually print photos and such... Or if you're an amateur photographer, then I guess the best possible camera phone is best for you. Which in this case would be an S3 or HTC phone.
Like I said, it all depends what you're taking pics for.

I'm generally pleased with the way they look, I'm no professional but if they look great to my eye, then I can only guess they'll look great to the average consumer as well. The only problems I have are my two shaky hands, oh how great the pictures would look if they implemented some sort of image stabilization feature
Well I am not a amteur/hobby photograph, but then again, I use it for all kind of pictures.
Surely the pictures won't look bad but still the S3 is better.
For video recordings: The Nexus 4 is for some weird reason really bad (check comparisons on youtube.. S3 vs Nexus 4 Camera) :/
The s3 is just a horrible looking/feeling phone though IMO live the nexus and think it does videos and pictures fine for stuff like eBay and just in general
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
I agree the Nexus 4 looks better.. and I would overall prefer the Nexus 4.. but the Camera so far is my only concern. I will look for more picture comparisons today.. when it comes to pictures I think I am fine with the Nexus 4.
But those video recording.. soo bad.. that's why I thought there could be a fix coming soon ? Since pictures look "okay" but videos are rather bad.

Use LG Camera app for video recording. Much better results. 1080p, 20mbit bit rate, 30fps.

Thx for the hint...you know where to get it? Googled a lil bit but didn't find the right one. Should be the newest version from Optimus G right?

Do you maybe have a test video/picture from the lg app ?
the video comparisons I am refering to:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSlCc8A3t7A
but especially when comparing these two videos (nexus 4 vs S3) the difference is very big:
Nexus 4: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3jtl5EOrqA
S3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QcbsWeNqy8c
anyone?
Nexus cameras/sensors have always been weak, starting with the N1.
Marks toolkit for the SGN pimped the camera with some nice mods, maybe the same will be included in the N4 kit in the near future, too.
I´m looking forward to it...
Alright, Nexus 4 it is... let's see if the camera gets optimized somehow.
Time to pack for the snapdragon S800 I suppose, that can handle 55megapixel and 4k recording.

To be honest, I like the N4 camera. The only gripe that I have is that it applies way too much sharpening on the photos it takes. If they were able to tone that down and add native Android volume/power shutter, I wouldn't complain that much (still image-wise at least)
+1 lgcamera is good ! camera ZOOM is good

Hello Guys
We all know how poor is the AOSP's camera app by supporting features ( slow motion exc. ). And N4 has a bad video recording quality with 12mbps bitrate. We can improve it by a mod ( topic is at the second link i gave ) or with a program called LGCamera. Well there is no visible difference between 12mbps and 20mbps.
I made some research and found that these phones use the same Sony Exmor IMX111PQ image with N4.
- Samsung Galaxy S4 Active ( It supports slow motion feature )
- LG Optimus HD 4x
- LG Nexus 4
There are two topics i found that they are useful for this thread;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nex...vs-nexus-4-camera-recording-v0-2-avc-t2159076
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/development/mod-increase-camera-audio-video-image-t2039553
How can we improve the Camera App ? Is there any port from Samsung Galaxy S4 Active ?
I would love slowmotion feature. Its awesome on iphone.
First of all at the brochure of IMX111PQ it says that the sensor can take 720p at 60FPS.
And we know examples of Snapdragon S4 Pro can take 720p 90FPS videos. So where is the problem ? I think it's defintly software limitations.
They share the same hardware but different camera drivers, that's one of the reasons we have such poor camera quality... mostly is bad-optimised drivers. (the sensor has some blame on this too).
Our hope is to get new camera drivers with the new Google Camera that has been announced some weeks ago, if not, it'll be more like another camera that you can find at playstore.
Well it can be the optical stuff also ( optical elements ). But its not only the video quality. The camera app is very stricted. There is no options to select.

İ remember you tried to make the video encoding at high profile. Dıd you succes ? What happened ?

Bump. I like my N4, and before making my decision on going on another phone, the only thing I do not like is the camera. Takes longer to focus, bad image quality (unless i photoshop afterwards) . So isn't there any way of improving it?
Every phone has a thread like this,so we want to know how is amazing this Zenfone 2!
If someone have already this device, please post some Pictures!

What do you thing about the camera of this phone?
Can you post some pics with Dual Flash Tone?
Please post some pictures!
Thanks for posting that. A quick look at the test photos tells me that the rear camera on the ZF2 is worse than the Samsung S6, Xperia S4 and LG G3 and better than the HTC M9 and 820. The difference between the better phones and the ZF2 is some marginal other than the very impressive S6. I think the ZF2 will work out ok for most of us.
No one post some pictures?
Not a picture but a video I shot with the Zenfone Sunday night before shipping it off yesterday.

Hi
Just bought ze551 ml with 2g/32g as my first android phone. Clicked some photos inside a shopping mall and all of them are coming out grainy, tried a lot of things - full resolution, HDR /no HDR, optimization ON/OFF. Nothing seems to work. HDR is slightly better but still grainy. My previous phone4 clicks better pics. am I doing something wrong. Plz help

Indoors/Lowlight quite disappointing actually. Indoors usually needs flash for better pics. Bright sunlight is the best. That's the only flaw to me. :/

These were taken on my ZE550ML, all on full auto in bright conditions outside.
This one was using depth of field mode.
Different conditions here, in a bar at night under moderate artificial light. No flash and still full auto.

Does it mean that once we get the xenon flash accessory, the photos will be sharp as any other competition phone (read S5/iPhone 6 as considered competition by Asus)?
