Help: My PH-1 Is Stuck in EDL Mode - Essential Phone Questions & Answers

A few weeks ago, my completely unmodified Essential phone froze while charging and wouldn't power back on after I turned it off. I tried all sorts of button combinations held for various amounts of time but couldn't get any response whatsoever from the phone. There was nothing shown on the screen, no backlight, no LED, and no sound or vibration. It also was completely undetected when connected to my computer by USB. Fastboot and ADB don't detect it either.
I replaced the battery out of desperation, which didn't seem to make any difference. After pretty much giving up, I removed the battery so I could store it without the phone draining it.
With the battery removed, I connected the phone to my computer by USB. The phone was undetected at first, but I noticed after leaving it connected for 15 minutes it connects to my computer as "Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008." It connects consistently every time after 15 minutes. Fastboot and ADB still don't detect it in this mode.
I've read that there's virtually no hope of recovery from this mode without the as-yet-unreleased Firehose programmer. However, I never tampered with the the bootloader, or anything else, on my phone, and the situation seems a little different than most cases of 9008 bricking. I haven't found another case where the phone waits 15 minutes before entering EDL mode. Is there any chance I might be able to do something without the Firehose programmer to get the phone out of EDL mode and continue booting?
I made an EDL USB cable that allows me to ground the D+ USB wire, with the hope I that might interrupt the phone somehow. I tried grounding D+ before waiting 15 minutes to see if it would go into EDL mode immediately, but it didn't. I also tried grounding D+ while in EDL mode, but that had no effect either.
Is there anything else I can try?

There are no solution for now (((
We have no working firehose file for mata...

Fully Bricked Looking for some help

My Axon was at the twrp menu at 1% this morning so i went to shut it down to charge it but i havent been able to get it back on since. At first, plugging in the charger would prompt a light vibrate and red LED every few seconds but this has slowly stopped and the red LED only flashes every so often when i hold the power button. I've been trying to get into EDL Mode but with no indication from the phone, along with no indication of connection from the computer, I've been unsuccessful. If anyone could offer me some help to even get into EDL mode so i can flash out of this, that would be great. Thanks
Maybe forcing the EDL mode, using a moded USB cable:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3537990
Search for the cable and instructions on that link
It seems like it's trying to boot into EDL mode but the battery isn't taking a charge. Have you tried connecting the phone to the wall charger for like an hour and then connect it to the PC?

Mi A1 dead, LED blinks on charger, how to revive?

Hi! Similar problems have been posted on the forum before, but none of the solutions worked for me.
Stock Mi A1 with vanilla Oreo (latest official patch), everything stock & vanilla, no hacking, no rooting, no modifications etc whatsoever. All apps installed through google store, nothing fancy.
In short: put my phone into airplane mode about a week ago (battery at 90%), then a few hours into the flight the phone blacked out. Won't react to power button, power+volume up, power+volume down, all buttons, no buttons, any combination of buttons for any length of time. Phone was in my pocket, no physical impact or anything, just "died".
There are 2 signs of life:
- If i plug it to charge the notification LED blinks about 1 / sec
- If I connect it to a computer, it recognizes it as Qualcomm 9008 blabla device.
What I have tried so far and didn't work:
- All imaginable button combinations: no reaction
- Fully charging phone: doesn't help
- Letting battery deplete: doesn't help
- Disassembled the phone, disconnected the battery, put it in charger, reconnected the battery: this fixed the issue for some, didn't work for me.
I GUESS that since the computer recognizes it I could try to "flash" it or whatever, although 1) there are a lot of negative posts about it 2) I have no idea how to do it (which exact ROM, using which exact tool, etc).
I wouldn't mind not losing the data on the phone though, if that is an option: I was about to back up my photos on the flight, but it died before I could have done it.
There is no official Xiaomi support / service where I live, bought the phone while visiting a country which sold it.
Any suggestions?
Small update.
- adb doesn't see the device.
- Miflash sees the device, but dies at "ping via firehose" stage.
-A1 low level backup tool doesn't see the device.
After 2 weeks of googling I have found around 50 forum threads around The Internet with similar issues, but no solution as of yet. Sounds promising!
I had this problem 2 hours ago and fixed with the Disconnect battery, connect charger, reconnect battery (while charger is still connected just to clarify). you tried this fix like this? reconnecting battery while charger is still connected?
Maybe try getting a different battery and connect it, and/or maybe let the battery discharge itself.

Thanks for the replies fellas. I have tried this before. Now I have tried this again just to be sure. Did it multiple times. Disconnect battery, connect charger, reconnect battery. It doesn't alter the phone's state in any way. Doesn't react to buttons, flashes led on charger, shows up as qualcomm 9008 device on PC, but doesn't let me flash anything. Sad.
Qualcomm 9008 is sigh of faulty emmc chip. Bad soldering i guess. Take the device to the service center. My 1 cent op. Regards
Its very simple the solution. The problem is the cable. Try to change the cable, charging the phone and turn it on. I my case works

Have you had any progress? I'm having similar issues with my mi mix 2s.
The answer is to replace the battery. I have two dead batteries for my Mi A1. Both batteries were left in the drawer for several months and upon connecting them to my Mi A1 they showed the dreaded blinking light. After trying to fix this for a day I gave up. I disconnected the battery, the phone booted up right away. Bought a new battery and everything is working again. Hope this helps!
I too had numerous kind of hard bricks with my previous smartphones.

Try the ones that you think fit the most.
I had the same issue just today
removed the battery connector and connected it back without touch any other component
phones working fine now
its bricked and get into edl mode just try to flash with MiFlash tool i have faced this problem some time ago when i flashed an ota with twrp recovery then my phone went dead and when i connect it to pc led blinks and phone recognise in ports as "diagnostic port 9008d" something like that then i install the drivers and flash stock pie rom with MiFlash tool but after successful flashing phone wont boot but after pressing power button for 10 to 15 second phone starts. i have unlocked bootloader so it works for me but i'm not sure it works on locked device try it or use QFIL flash tool from QPST
This happened to me but all i did was charge the phone the whole time.
My Xiaomi A1 had the same issue, I think I have tried all available solution but unfortunately mine still dead, and when I connect the charger it blink.
I guess the ultimate solution is to throw it to a recycle bin.

Moto G4+ not turning on.

My phone doesn't turn on nor can it turn on in recovery mode neither and seems to be dead... The only signal of life is the blinking white led next to the fingerprint scanner.
Here's how this happened: The phone was charging very slowly, I thought this was a problem with the cable so I tried other ones without success, I continued using the original, days later it stopped charging so I opened the phone very carefully and saw the battery conector raised ever so slightly, I pushed it back in place and noticed that the flash flex cable had some kind of bump that was caused by some kind of chip under it, maybe I sat on my phone some day and caused this but I don't really know. So I reassembled the phone and now it won't turn on.
I've tried to "unbrick" the phone since apparently that's what causes the blinking white led and not being able to turn on the phone, but unfortunately, the phone won't get recognized when connected to a computer, this means I can't do the unbricking.
I want to know what else could this mean? Is the motherboard dead? Would the led blink even when the motherboard is dead? What can I do?
I've tried(in order to get my phone to show up on the computer):
*Using different kind of usb cables(including the original).
*Connecting to other computers.
*Installing Qualcomm and Motorola drivers.
*Running PC on test mode and disabling signature checks.
Please tell me your opinions, do I buy a new phone or is this fixable?
Originally, I would have thought your issue might have been to do with the charging port (possibly explaining that your device can't be identified).
Just to confirm, all the connectors that you saw, including those attached to the motherboard, are all connected and it's a good connection?
It's entirely possible the motherboard/flash memory is dead - so not being to load the bootloader, though I would have thought you'd be able to see Qualcomm HS-USB 9008 in Windows if your device can't boot to the bootloader (it'll drop to the Emergency Download Mode).
I honestly do not know what the issue/issues might be, though you could take it to a service centre/repair shop and see what they say (get them to inspect the device). Given what you've described, it's possible you may be better served by a new device rather than spending money fixing up this one.

Thanks for the reply, I checked all connectors and none seem to have problems so I'm going to take it to a repair shop as you say, depending on what their diagnose is, I'll consider buying a new phone. Once again, thank you.

Try to hold the power button and the volume down buttons together for more than 2 minutes. My moto g4 goes dead sometimes and nothing I do will turn it on except holding those buttons for like 2 to 3 minutes then it reboots to fastboot and turns on. It might not work but it works for mine and its worth a shot. It takes a few minutes and I dont know why but it does no more 3. Let me know if it worked.

Galaxy Tab A7 SM-T500 doesn't turn on - QDL mode? Help needed

Two days ago, my tablet didn't turn on, and I just thought that it may be completely drained.
I left it to charge until today, when I wanted to use it.
However, it didn't turn on, in fact it did nothing at all. I noticed that even the usual "charging animation" is missing.
It's not a faulty charger, and the tablet hasn't been damaged, and it was on the stock OS, so it's really weird.
I held all various combinations of Power, Vol+ and Vol-, for various amounts of time without any reaction(display, sound or vibration) whatsoever.
As a last ditch effort, I tried to attach it via USB to my laptop. Same thing here, no filesystem dialogue turning up, adb nothing, fastboot nothing.
Although! I noticed that it can't be completely dead, because `lsusb` shows it as
Code:
Bus 001 Device 013: ID 05c6:9008 Qualcomm, Inc. Gobi Wireless Modem (QDL mode)
Now, my google foo let me down. I found out that as this seems to be some kind of emergency recovery mode, but I could find literally nothing about it related to the Galaxy Tab A7.
Did I miss something? Is it lost forever? Maybe one of you can point me in the right direction...
Thanks!
While connected to pc hold power button plus volume up +down for about 10 seconds i believe. If that brings you to download mode you can flash stock firmware with Odin. Your data will be lost though. Disconnecting the battery cable fron the circuitboard for a few second might be worth a try too. I would try that first but that does mean you should find out how to get the back off. I'm sure youtube can show you how

You entered EDL mode, Idk how to get out of it but I know for sure that QDL is EDL mode
I have exactly the same tablet and problem. Have you found a solution? Mine is still under warranty and I think I will use it if there is not an easy solution. Thank you
Try the edl reset command from edlclient.
In my case Samsung official service has replace the tablet motherboard
Sorry mate,
I completely missed your message.
In any case, for completeness’ sake, I also did not manage to get it back to work whatsoever. I tried every tip in this thread, as well as when I got more desperate resorted to trying with every tool on GitHub I could find - without success.
When nothing helped, I got a full refund from Amazon customer service.

POCO M3 blackscreen after MIUI 14 update, did some stuff, now battery status upon charging but no boot

Saw today that there was the MIUI 14 Update for the POCO.
Downloaded, unpacked and then it said restart, pressed restart.
It turned off and never on again.
Tried holding power button, charging, fast boot, holding here and there nothing. Blackscreen.
Opened the phone, unplugged both screen and battery, plugged in. Nothing. Tried it a few times and then upon charging it installed the updated, turned off blackscreen.
Tried everything from above again, nothing. Saw that upon plugging on my PC it showed QDLoader 9008 so probably EDL. If i unplugged and plugged in I heard a sound on my PC. If i held the power button i also heard the sound when you connect a device.
Opened the phone up again, removed the mainboard and tried to remove that small metal cover from the mainboard. Couldnt get it off even with enough heat applied. Heated the mainboard according to a different thread: Mainboard Part
Now when i charge the phone it shows me the battery display but if i press the power button the phone doesnt boot. Without charging it also doesnt show any sign of life. I didnt plug in all parts such as camera etc. yet
Does anyone know what to do now, cant afford a new phone.
edit//
If i plug it into a charger it shows 90%
PC shows it as a drive (E:/) Linux no more 9008
still no reaction after connecting everything

When the phone is connected to edl mode, the next procedure for recovery is simple, you have to look for the procedure, for example here.
I solved it by heating up the metal cover and the mainboard as shown on the "mainboard part image". If you reasamble the phone make sure that your mainboard is connected to the button connectors, that was my issue. For some reason it wasnt connected and therefore the buttons were not working.
Support was literally useless and the warranty in germany is a scam.
Trash phone. Never going to buy POCO again.
