How many of you have dying touchscreen issues? - Redmi K20 / Xiaomi Mi 9T Questions & Answers

My mi 9t has recently developed touchscreen issues. It's not the "ghost touch" that people talk about, but actual phantom touches confirmed by turning on touch viability under developer settings. Right under the pull down menu is getting constantly touched in a line. This problem is even worse when the phone gets twisted even with little force. My phone has never been dropped, doesn't have a scratch on it anywhere, no water has touched it ect. I'm considering buying a new one (no warranty), but want to know how common this is before I consider a different device.
Please let me know if you've experienced this hardware issue as I've confirmed that it's not software, and no common "fix" can fix hardware.

I have the same exact problem as you described. Also thinking about new phone, it's sad because I really like this phone but this problem is getting only worse for me ?

How long have you had your phone by the way? I owned mine for about 5 months before the issue seemed to get really bad, but it showed up after about 3 months.

I have it for 5 months as well now and this problem started to appear about 1 month ago

just replace, its hardware problem, so use warranty

I'm a US based buyer and don't have warranty. I have looked at the cost of replacement and it's over half of the cost of the phone for the parts alone, so not worth it.

HTC are Utter Rubbish! edited - because I may have upset some users..

Sorry to say that I recently went from a wizard (which I've had for 18 months) to a hermes...disappointed doesn't even begin to describe my experience.
I had the 'brick' as I've come to call it, 3 days and already it's deceased.
Started getting the 'phantom taps' and now no TS at all.
Rebooted a dozen times and it just wont get past the screen alignment...in fact if you sit and watch it does it itself!
I even know what the issue is as it's been reported in the past but you'd think HTC would've sorted it by now.
HTC are palming off shonky goods as cutting edge.....really disapointed.
Did you flash a custom ROM onto it? Is it a hardware problem? In any case, it's covered by a warranty, you probably just got a defective unit. IMO, the upgrade from my wizard to hermes was a HUGE difference in performance and I'd never go back.
hardware related
Its hardware related....as the device gets warm (probably room temperature!) the screen expands and the TS membrane is pinched. All kinds of fun ensues!
There's no warranty on it..so it wont be going back.
Chalk another one up to experience.
if you have no warranty then you prob didn't pay much and you prob didn't get a new unit, and you prob didn't even get from a reputable place....so buyer beware...if the deal was to good to be true it prob was and did you ever think to ask yourself why the unit was for sale in the first place.
Assume a lot dontcha
It's brand new...from a friend who upgraded almost immediately to a HTC Touch.
You are correct though - didn't cost me a bean - shame my wizard's already gone....
oh..and while you're at it...get off yer high horse!
Assuming that I'm a dumb hick who'll buy anything that's cheap is a bit insulting..

If it's brand new from a friend, why not have him simply return the unit as defective??? Besides, just because you aren't the original buyer doesn't mean there is no warranty...
I have both a Wizard and a Hermes. Apart from the Wizard feeling like it is more rugged when it's in your hand, the Hermes is superior in every other way. And when you load WM6 onto the Hermes, it just blows the Wizard away completely.
If you know enough about this device to know that the innards are "expanding" and that something is being pinched by this, it sounds like you've taken it apart.
You're clearly not telling us the whole story in any case. If you ever want real advice for fixing your Hermes instead of just venting and not telling us what you've done to it to cause these problems, a lot of people here will be happy to help you.
BTW, I've found that doing a soft reset after charging it does a lot for any heat problems if this is truly the only problem you're having.
...several screen alignment "fixes" available on this website...
Lay off the guy
Look folks, the 'phantom tap' is a known and documented hardware issue with Hermes and has nothing to do with where/how/when/why the unit was acquired, nor for how much. Wise up (and shut up if you don't know what you're talking about).
To the OP: Don't give up so easily. In my experience HTC tracks the warranty by serial number. Call them and insist on an RMA. I was successful in getting one fixed free of charge. And guess what... I bought it on ebaY, and the warranty seal had been broken!
Btw, it's not the touch screen. Been there, replaced it, didn't fix it.
Thanks vp3G

Thanks for that man!
As it turns out the device was still under warranty and it's been returned...just waiting for it to come back!
Funnily enough when I had it the first time, the rom I put on it was your 'Black Satin'! Nice ROM, particularly the file explorer replacement!
Personally I didn't see much in the way of difference between the hermes and the wizard....but I did have it only for three days.
When I get it back I and test it out a bit more, I will gladly eat my words if it out performs the old wizard.
Anyway, I wasn't slating the hermes in itself..many of my friends have one p )..it was HTC themselves for still selling devices to consumers with a known fault.

One dud BMW doesn't make BMW's bad cars. You got a dud, plain and simple. Return it for one that works.
HTC has impressed me, especially lately as they are trying to "redesign" the interface for windows mobile to make it actually usable.
BMWs are incredibly bad cars for the price they are sold for.

Titan keyboard problems (key repeats, hard presses needed, etc.)

Does anyone else have a problem with their Titan and the keyboard? This has slowly driven me insane since I got the phone from a friend (which spent most of it's time in the box because he bought an iPhone less than a month later). Some of the keys when pressed (namely E, W, R, M, and N) repeat at least three or four times with each press. Other keys (ALT, shift, P, O) have to be pressed really hard to even register at all.
Is this a common problem with the Titans? I've personally used at least five or six, and mine is the only one to do this. Anyone have a whole keyboard for sale?!
just got a refurb that does the same thing...i don't know if they'll give me another one because of this reason though (at least not for free even though i pay $7/month). my old one with a cracked frame never did this. oh well.
I've had my Mogul for nearly 10 months now and over the last 2 this same exact problem has been getting progressively worse.
I can't send a text message without having to correcting a couple words. Forget about anything longer.
Titan Keyboard problems
I also have issues with the keyboard. have to press the keys too hard and sometimes repeatedly.
how can i solve this?
Same storey over here. Never had the problem until a couple weeks ago. I think maybe the phone just isn't made as well as I had hoped.
It's really a shame that such an expensive device starts to fail in less than a year.
yeah, it's slowly getting worse and worse, to the point where i hate text messaging people. it's pathetic that my buddy's cheapass LG enV works fine, while my originally $300 titan has the world's worst keyboard. what makes it worse is that i know they aren't all like this. we have multiple titans here at work that are great.
Well look what I found...
having the same issue. a real bummer
The attatchment in my last post corrected the problem for me. no more "how arrre youuu doing"
I'll be damned.. that fixed it! Thank you so much!

but please explain to me how software can correct what seems like a hardware issue?

lucky you! i'm not sure about everyone else's keyboard problems, but mine didn't start until i upgraded the ROM (i had the original ROM until the GPS/Rev A update came out). my problem was either very coincidental, or the updated driver they used in the new ROM sucks donkey ass.
Not sure if you are describing what I have. I have something simliar, but a reboot of my phone fixes it.
have the same problem and patch above did not fix it since its a hardware problem, keyboard seems to be cheap and poorly manufactured. I just put in a request with asurion for another device. Should arrive soon

The multiple key issue is definitely associated with the GPS ROM updates. Now YOU might have a lemon of a phone but 99% of the people with the issues (including myself) had this start happening when we upgraded.
I am actually running the newest "unreleased" ROM now and I don't have the key issue anymore that I experienced with the first official GPS ROM they released.
i got the titan from sprint 11 months ago and i've used these roms (not in order):
RUU_TITAN_SPRINT_WWE_2.17.651.0_RS_TITAN_SPCS_1.47.01_Ship.exe
RUU_TITAN_SPRINT_WWE_3.35.651.2_RS_TITAN_3.35.04_4350H_SPCS_AM_Ship.exe
RUU_TITAN_SPRINT_WWE_3.49.651.0_RS_TITAN_3.39.10_SPCS_2.00_AM_PPST_Test.exe
RUU_TITAN_SPRINT_WWE_3[1].16.651.0_435009_RS3_27_00_SPCS_NV124.exe
dcd_titan_2.1.0_sprint.exe
dcd_titan_2.2.0_sprint.exe
dcd_titan_2.2.3_sprint.exe
dcd_titan_2.3.1_sprint.exe
dcd_titan_3.0.4_sprint.exe
dcd_titan_3.1.2.exe
Colonels GPS rom nbh.rar
Nex_3.35_no2_SPCS_SPB_FIXED2.exe
NexVision_2.3.1_02_SPCS.rar
NexVision_2.3.1_SPCS.rar
nueROM v2.0 Build 5048.rar
nueROM v2.1 build 5066.rar.rar
PPC6800SP MR 07-16-07.zip
SchS.exe
vSprint2.exe
Generic_if0ne_beta1.rar
as well as buildOS and dcd's kitchens
i never had a keyboard issue with my original titan handset using ANY of the roms...not before or after flash. i replaced it because there was a crack on the side that i was afraid would grow to damage the screen or something.
the initial refurb that they gave me was the first time i had the keyboard repeat issue. i flashed the 3.35.651.2, 3.49.651.0, dcd_titan_3.1.2.exe three times each to see if it would help...but it did not. that is why i called customer care again and they got the sprint store to hook me up with a brand new one (not refurb). i did not get a chance to see if the attached file helped the issue, but judging from what others have written, it could have helped.
i don't think the titan's keyboard is cheap. i wouldn't have bought it if i thought i was cheap (unless it was actually cheap, price-wise). tell me what an expensive keyboard on a phone feels like...what, a vertu? a tag? mobiado's cocobolo? the titan's keyboard feels pretty solid to me. i want them to release a touch pro for sprint! what's the eta on that?
fixed it
Tonight was probably the 5th time that i've looked for a fix for this annoying keyboard issue. I didn't even have to run a search, just saw the thread. Many thanks to the people who fixed this most annoying problem, since I loaded the last rom most of my friends were begining to think i was drunk all the time because i was always sending them messages just like when I was drunk... anyone have a cab to fix my drinking problem...?
Will this work for the mogul as well....I've been having these same issues with my HTC mogul.

RMA'd 2013 Nexus 7 for multitouch issue, nothing was fixed.

So I was having the multitouch issues.. putting two or more fingers closely together caused major freakouts, and some swipes would just count as taps, as well as phantom taps happening. I RMA'd. got it back, only to find out all they did was a factory reset, which I had already done. Obviously this did nothing to fix the problem. I was very angry. I went to Asus support and did a chat with a support guy ( trying to remember this is not his fault ) and politely stated that the RMA had done nothing. I set up a new one, explaining that it is a hardware issue and that I wanted the screen/digitizer to be replaced. I'm sending it tomorrow, so I'll let you guys know how that goes. Has anyone else RMA'd for this and gotten it back in perfect working condition?

My device only exhibits some multitouch jumpiness when not grounded. I decided to wait for Asus and Google to sort it out internally and then I will send it for repair. Now from what I heard they only replace one faulty units with another. Mine seems to be one of those better ones even though it has serious problems with basic pinch to zoom gestures when ungrounded. I keep it for now because I do not want to risk replacement with a worse one.
One question to the those of you who got a replacement. When you got your replacement devices what was the manufacturing date? Did anyone get a device from September production batch? Was it any better?
I just mailed mine in for repair yesterday. I was hoping this would resolve my screen issues but I'm getting the impression that I will be very lucky if it does.
Plan B will be to buy another one and return the first one with that receipt. Rinse repeat until I get one that works.

So annoying that's what you have to do just to get one that works. Asus..... I don't know why they didn't just go samsung or htc, as badly as asus fudged up QC on the 2012 N7
I just mailed mine in for repair today, I don't know if I did right. Mine is also from the best ones between the bad ones and I donĀ“t want to get one in worst conditions. I know a guy who send it to asus and got it back with the screen, front and gps changed, they did not even talk about the gps or gps problems at all, so we thought it was solved because they knew what to change. When he got it back at first it was perfect, he use to had a realy faulty unit, but the next day he came saying that it was failing again, much less than before but not perfect at all. He keeps talking with the people on asus and they told him to send it back, that may be an app... ???? I guess they don't have any idea on what the problem is.

There is a problem with that solution, I have the grounding issue, how could just a software problem do that? Mine works nearly perfect in my hands but if you put it over a sofa... Could be a software problem with some apps but not all.
The 15x updates contained firmware (which effects the hardware) as well as software.
Sfhub's firmware patches have been 80-90% successful in minimizing or eliminating the touch problems for those who've tried them.

So in essence, commit fraud?
Apparently.
Sad that the sellers have to take it in the shorts because Google/ASUS are so clueless and unable to provide anything remotely resembling customer service.
They'll end up with a bunch of money tied up in defective stock that they'll have to sit on until they get credit.
Next time, how many Google/ASUS tablets do you think they'll be ordering?

Are you from the police? Is that fraud? So how would you call what asus/google are doing...
I think people that buy a device and return defective units to the place of purchase are heroes. Especially if they return 3-5 or more. They beta test the devices, and take out the bad ones for the rest of us.
Is it fraud to buy model ABC and return model ABC to the same store? The stores have a ASUS wonderful warranty program where they can return the devices for a full year for repair and resell them to unsuspecting customers. For example, I noticed Best Buy selling a Google device recently at full price that had an extra small sticker - Bug Fix A. Isn't that fraud? LOL
Seriously, it should be fraud to sell a consumer faulty devices and expect thousands of customers to deal individually with the known problems.
Even if you buy one in one shop, then buy another in another, or the same shop, and return the first one as the second, that is what the user said. If that's the way to get a good one working... but be careful with bar codes, they will know you are not returning the same item.
There's no damage for any shop as Bob said, they just return the unit and gets new one. The biggest problem is for the user, Google is just lucky for not having more returns.
They are are all screwed up I think. Some more then others. It can be fixed with Sfhub's patches for the most part. Mine still gets strange when I play extended periods of Terraria but it is only for a second or two. I don't even think it is the device at this point but rather the game itself.
Best thing to do is go into Dev options and turn on show touchscreen inputs. Before it would skitz out and I could see like 5 touch inputs randomly on the screen. Now after Sfhubs fix, I don't see any, even when the game gets wonky.
This is why everyone knows it can be corrected via a proper patch from Google. Whether they adjust the sensitivity to touch or grounding or whatever. If Sfhub can do it, Google can. Plus it is a tiny download, his directions are precise, you don't have to be unlocked or rooted to do. There is absolutely no harm to just patch it yourself until Google makes with a fix.

So no one's had a positive experience RMAing the nexus? Do the majority of units have the multitouch problem?
Sfhub's fix helped but I still get the "grounding issue" where the touchscreen goes insane if I place the nexus on certain materials. It sometimes exhibits the same problem when connected to the charger.
Other than that, the tablet works great when I hold it in my hand, no other issue to report... so I'm worried about RMAing my N7 and getting back one that not only has the same multitouch issue but now also randomly reboots or has dead pixels or dust or whatever. My warranty applies to north america only because I bought it off ebay and I don't live in the US so shipping it off to get replaced will get costly if I can't guarantee I get a working replacement back. Can I be sure that like, the newest batch of nexus 7 has been fixed and the replacement will be of that batch?
Since they're not sure what the problem is (one Google groups poster states that ASUS has had his for a month with no ETA on a fix, or when he'll get it back) I'm not sure how they can fix anything , or be certain that what they've been shipping is 'good'.

Dude, that forum is almost like spam. I reported my issues early, 3 weeks ago or more.
Since then I get from 10+ to 20+ reports (of multiple posts) per day of people reporting issues in email. People might be worrying about me when I get two or three reports in one meeting and I'm chuckling at the comments. LOL

I never had a problem and when I did have a screen problem it was because I had a JDI one and I fixed it. Its an awesome phone (Better than S4) so you should really try playing with it. Rooting it is also another option and I dont think custom roms give you the touchscreen problem.

Since when I had my phone repaired and they had to change out my prox sensor, screen, and digitizer, I really think it's a hardware issue.
Just had to have my D801 replaced by T-Mobile for an issue where the screen was picking up two finger touches instead of just one in a small area in the bottom left hand corner of the screen. Warranty replacement was easy but I wish this wasn't an issue.. I love this phone.

Just had to have my D801 replaced by T-Mobile for an issue where the screen was picking up two finger touches instead of just one in a small area in the bottom left hand corner of the screen. Warranty replacement was easy but I wish this wasn't an issue.. I love this phone.

I was going to do that with TMO, but they wanted $19.99 "processing fee" or something ridiculous. On top of that, I'd get a refurb device. I ended up going through LG - they had my phone for about two weeks.
Like I said though, the issue is back..
as i was going to buy the korean version without warranty... I think it is not a wise decision to do that seeing so many issues with the lg g2 screen... I am disappointed as this phone looked like my ideal phone with ideal screen size (not too big, not too small) with a good camera... but I don't want to take a risk on the screen issue.. I have the htc desire and it has issue with multitouch and it is very frustrating (can't even rotate on gmaps) ... I don't want this again lol

That's weird. I only had to pay $5 processing. The guy said because I was on the JUMP program. Also I got like super expedited shipping for free. I suppose I may have gotten a refurb but a refurb I better than a broken phone. I just hope this doesn't happen again...

Bootloop issue on Nexus 6P

There was an article today on xda that talked about a class action lawsuit against LG because multiple phones they make are going into a boot loop of death--sound familiar? The problem is defective solder that can't withstand the heat the phone generates and, over time, separates a connection to the motherboard. The problem with the 6P is almost certainly the exact same. That means there is likely nothing a 6P owner can ultimately do to prevent the boot loop of death from eventually happening to their phone. The simple act of charging the phone with the quick charge function makes the phone quite warm. On top of that (for those on stock) since the January OTA Google has been defaulting the stock kernel settings to those for high performance, which not only is causing battery drain that some users have been complaining about but also makes the phones run much warmer. This means the 6P will likely die even faster.
For some of us this was a 600-700 phone purchased new and (mine is a 128gig model) and for that money, it's not unreasonable to expect a phone to last for longer than 12-18 months, which is probably going to turn out to be the ultimate lifespan for these things.
I'm curious if anybody else has any thoughts on this situation. To my mind, both Google and Huawei knew that these phones were defective and should have recalled them. Instead, they are riding out the warranty and when the phone inevitably breaks telling owners that they are SOL.
Does anyone think it would be worthwhile for Nexus 6P owners to file a class action lawsuit against Google and Huawei or do you think it would be a waste of time? Are you OK buying a supposedly premium phone that likely won't last a full two years?

You can try.
I'm in because I had to RMA my phone with a blank screen.
Paid the deductible to get it replaced.

I wouldn't know where to start and don't know any lawyers. But I seriously doubt that very many 6Ps will still be running by the time they are two years old. Shortly after a year seems to be when it's happening for a lot of people. I baby my phone but I still expect it to be dead by fall because my warranty expires in July. Currently I'm on Project Fi, which I like. That means I'll either have to buy a Pixel which is overpriced and apparently very difficult to root and mod or switch to another carrier so I can get something like a One Plus which is easy to root and mod and has a vibrant developer community. I'm not happy that I spent so much on this phone and it likely won't last two years. I have much older, far cheaper smartphones that still function fine. My Galaxy 3 still works perfectly. But this phone was apparently built like crap and nobody seems to want to hold Google and Huawei responsible for that.
Not sure where this will go, but I'm a 6P owner and watching the situation closely in these places:
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=230848
https://www.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p-users-experiencing-random-bootloops/
So far I'm good. But it happens suddenly much of the time.

Hello...
You can also follow this thread:

By the way... Every week there are new users reporting the same issue. I don't count those who also open new threads in Q/A section...
This is getting crazy. Seeing LG is now sued, it gives at least some hope that something will be done with Huawei.
How much people have a nice brick now?! And Google/Huawei who tell them since their warranty ended a few days/weeks/months ago, they won't fix their device. Though some had exceptions and have had their device replaced/repaired, others pay for a motherboard replacement. A Device that already costed them 700$ or more and now the repair!
Also some people kept harassing Google/Huawei because the first person they called didn't accept to replace/repair their device. They tried again and after 2 or 3 calls they finally successed! Isn't it crazy?! Like if you give up at first try, you're just fuxxed...
Though with all this, you're not even sure it won't fail anymore. As they didn't acknowledge the issue, nor they did state they took measures to fix the problem...
I haven't experienced the issue yet, but the phone is exactly one year old. My wife uses it now since i upgraded. It's just boring to backup photos every few days, fearing it suddenly breaks!
They deserve a little punishment in my opinion.

I'd like to think that Huawei/Google would step up and at least offer a 50% disc on new device or 50% refund on bricked 6Ps. Anything other than, SORRY, it's out of warranty (even though thousands of devices are having the same issue)...

Thanks. It would be nice if companies were held to some quality of manufacture law for things like this that happen after the warranty period. It's as if they think "we only have to make it last ONE YEAR, then it can fall apart after the warranty is over"... When thousands of devices are having similar issues, that's not just a coincidence!

It always reminds me of the Samsung TVs case: https://www.cnet.com/news/samsung-settlement-warrants-older-tvs-with-faulty-capacitors/
They accepted to fix the faulty units and extended the warranty. If you read the post till the end though, this is the best part:
"Samsung officially denies the complaints in the suit"
Although they denied their TVs having a problem, they knew they would loose sooner or later. So they just they settled the lawsuit to avoid further costs. This is no rocket science...
For me, this is called programmed obsolescence. A technic widely used by almost all electronic devices manufacturers these days. Huawei should replace faulty motherboards. No matter how old those are! And extend the warranty on the new hardware.
Cheers...
It feels like i paid for a Premium brick costing 700 dollars!
Well, I too, am in the bootloop of death club... Here's my story if anyone wants a read.

Guess I'll try my luck with Huawei and see what they say.

So I just got off the phone with Huawei and unfortunately I am 4 months out of warranty. Said I can send it in to fix it and they'll let me know how much its gonna cost. I am so pissed right now. This is ridiculous. They're blaming the latest 7.1.2 update from Google and how it's not just the 6p it's affecting...hmmm Who's telling the truth?

I understand you. Even though I haven't got the issue yet and since my wife takes a lot of pics with (my ex) her N6P, i have to backup up almost every day. Doing this since the beginning of this issue. It's really boring.
I wish you luck! Try contacting Huawei again. Hopefully you'll talk to another tech who'll acknowledge the issue and will repair/replace.your phone. Don't give up!.
Or else, fill the lawyer's survey! :good:
PS: Huawei blamed first 7.0 update, then 7.1 and now 7.1.2. lol...
Good luck...

Well I was so frustrated that I went ahead and ask them to go ahead and send me the stuff needed to send it back. Hopefully whenever it gets there, I can speak with someone else and talk them into fixing it for free. Thanks.

Add Me to the growing list
Yep, my 6p- Aluminum 32GB phone had the problem. Same issue plaguing others too, infinite bootloop. Android Recovery Mode doesn't fix it, nothing does.
I sent it to Huawei on 3/10/17 and its now 4/14/17 and they still haven't given me back the phone. The message they give me is "the phone is fixed and is just waiting to be shipped"..... yeah sure I have been told this 4 time since 3/24/17, an ETA please? No, no ETA. You start to get suspicious the second time around and downright furious on the 3rd......and 4th time 21 FREAKING DAYS LATER. Had it escalated today 4/14/17. Hoping for the best:laugh::laugh:yeah no I'm not. Lawsuit time?
