I couldn't move this to development so I put it here.
On the Note 8, the iris scanner tech is composed of the iris scanner itself, and a IR Sensor to detect the iris scan. I wondering if the IR sensor could be used instead to process someone's entire face instead of the iris without root, as you cannot root the Note 8 AT&T model. Like on the Poco F1, it uses an IR sensor for face unlock.

I hope to see new GS7 with USB type c, 8-megapixel front-facing camera, and iris scanner.
You get usb micro B, 5Megapixel.
It is allow to dream, doh...
Many of the specs have been leaked already, we have a good idea what it will have for specs. And how would an iris scanner be useful? It has so many limitations.
Can the IR emitting light that's built for the iris function be used by apps like the Note 4 IR blaster could? (Specifically I'd like to know if we can use the Note 7 with Galaxy Universal Remote "
Isn't it the same type of light, and isn't it the same technology?
Is there an IR hardware quasi-expert that can weigh in on this?
No expert here. But sounds like a slim chance. "No IR blaster, sorry": http://m.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_note7-review-1478p2.php under "Unboxing... "
But by all means let us know if anyone learns otherwise. IR blaster is the only reason I'm not upgrading... I use it too much on my N3
it has an IR light emitter for the iris scanner camera. But i tried the app (galaxy universal remote) today and it said this device has no IR blaster.

It's likely not going to happen. Just get the harmony hub and use wifi to send it a signal, which has an app for your phone, if it's for your home or business. Otherwise, RIP ir blaster; I know this is not the news you want to hear but sadly it's the one people will get :|

Hi, use ir blaster for iphone end zazaremote, it works perfectly
Since the Note 9 has an Infrared iris scanner, I am wondering if there is an app that can use the scanner with visual, like a camera or night vision. Off course small distances, just for fun.
Something like this on the Poco F1

Bump
I've been lookig for something like this since the s8, and I havn't found anything

That was custom done by a dev or app maker who has the Pocofone...
You could always ask them to hep but as they don't own the Note they probably won't do it all...
I was wondering if anyone tried the Note 10+ 3D Scanner app on their A9 (2018) since they seem to have the same depth sensor (only thing missing is IR blaster but I’m guessing that just increases range) and if so did it work or do you know of any other app that can access the A9’s depth sensor data and visualize it as 3D please?
TIA

So, no one, how about A80's, depth camera with projector, does it do 3D scanning?
Hello
A problem with custom ROMs on S8 phones
Problem with iris not working
And the heart rate sensor is not working
Of course, except for one ROM
But I like to experience Android 11 or at best 12
What are the solutions to the problem of heart rate sensor?
Has anyone made an effort in this regard !?
