Sygav Toyota Highlander Headunit - Android Head-Units

I just got my wife a Sygav Highlander hesdunit. I really got it for the factory feeling volume knobs. I also got it because it has a 10 inch screen. And CarPlay.
I would love to know how to make this unit better. Run faster? Start faster. Ect. Anything to improve things would be great.
Thanks so much for you time.

I feel like this forum is better at explaining everything and having ideas and “hacks” to make thing better or more user friendly.
Just thoughts.

I know this is an old post but I also have a Sygav unit (for Camry).
So just in case anyone can benefit from this.
There are some great things you can do with these. There’s some launchers that look great and add easier functionality such as Car Launcher Pro, which I recommend.
You can also download icon sets to change the look, I’m using Whicons.
These units come with a lot of options, especially nice is the amplifier section for tweaking the sound.
Search J Booth’s posts he helped me immensely.

[Q] Is there an android head unit out there?

Did some googleing and didn't find much except for some maybes and some oddities that i'm not too sure about so I thought I might come to the experts. I would love to have a small 7" double din head unit in my car running gingerbread or better android on it and tether it to my phone. That way I could add pandora/youtube/siriusxm/navigation/market/fruitslice whatever...
Anyone know of anything out there?
There's a couple on the market I've seen. Many are out there as concepts. In the Barnes &Noble nook forums there is guy who did a write up on how he installed a nook in the dash of his jeep. It's a 7 inch screen and fits with a little Modding. I'm surprised you didn't find any on your search.
- this sig is just so I don't have to write 10char when on my phone -

Those are the main ones people have been "keeping an eye on" since last year.
After talking with some friends that are in to car audio, I've deemed them all to be subpar for my needs so i just got a 32gb sammy tab plus, 64gb microsd card, and a $30 dash kit that i will mod for mounting. I think the three key things that a real head unit has over mounting a tablet are: 1) easy back up camera solution 2) satellite radio 3) built in bluetooth handsfree. 1 and 3 are possible, just not the easiest, and i have no use for number 2 since i dont subscribe.
*edit* - just realized i had subscribed to the thread boborone is referencing Nook Color in Jeep Wrangler
There is also the more mainstream AppRadio from Pioneer. Search it since I can't post links yet.
I have the Erisin 777A for the past 4 months, generally quite happy about it but wants better sound quality.
Clarion has announced an android head unit, the mirage, http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/28/clarions-android-running-mirage-ivi/
This one has potential, maybe upgrade is in the works for me.
I have been search and I have decided on mounting a tablet as well I just wish there were companies who make custom mounts to make it look OEM

Nice. That's what I want. Too bad its release is in q4. :-(

Has anyone tried any of these or know if they would be any good hardware wise?
How about the possibility of custom roms or even rooting them?
This one seems the better choice in the fact it's a removable tablet. Not because I want a tablet but because it would be easier to bring into the house for flashing purposes. Never heard of it's CPU mind?

This one is quite a nice looking one with non removable screen. Has a Cortex A8 which I've heard of at least
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121016519547
So what's your views and opinions?
So no comments then? I'm really hankering for an Android unit in the car. Will beat the socks off the crappy 2din wince unit i have. The software on that is so cumbersome and doesn't match throughout the different modes.
Ok just found this Parrot Asteroid 2DIN. Looks very good but not available yet.

Also after watching some video's of the unit with pad I posted previously it seems that most of the main functions are handled by an internal process in the unit (maybe wince?) which then outputs video and control via the tablet. This has kind of put me off a little bit.
So after watching some other video's of the Ca-Fi I think I am going to go with one of these. The new one is upgraded to 2.3 Android, capacitive touchscreen and a 1ghz processor. So saving my pennies now!!!!!

Okay all this talk of android double din, well I have a double din unit in my car, all self fitted, it has 2 sd slots, 1 for GPS and the other for sd card for media, but was wondering if any of these slots can be used to "install" new os onto the unit.
How does the Os get installed onto these, there must be a way.

There's a whole thread about the Newsmy CarPad2 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2865525
Hey guys,
There's a bunch of Android-based devices out there in the market. I'm looking for the best one that's available - are you able to recommend some unit?
I was hoping to buy the Parrot RNB6, but it seems it's an abandoned project.
Has anyone ever seen any specs on pre out voltage on any of these units? Or even better a digital out? They seem to be all about software on the specs minus the 55w x 4 channel spec, the biggest gripe I have the with main manufacturers of hu out there right now is you either get a nice ui and imo poor pre out voltage or a really terrible ui that is almost unbearable but high voltage, which in turn leads to higher volume and clearer audio. This is what I have found at my price range anyways and am not really willing to drop $2k on a head unit at this point. Anyways i am trying to look through all the links on this page but any help would be appreciated
Edit: guess it's 2/2 pages and not 22 pages haha, guess I did check them all

I have Audi S6 C5 and just need a regular 2DIN unit - it will fit. However, the chinese stuff I'm looking at other threads in this forum seem very crappy and of low quality.
Is there something that can be really reliable, working fast and with good audio quality?
headunit 4.4.4 quad core 3188
I have had mine for more than 6 months
Sound is great ram is only 1gb so app installs stop after pandora and waze, and one or 2 other items
I use a wifi hotspot, on tmobile, $10/month no limits.
pandora now works no matter who drives car, and NAV youtube etc
Not sure newer version of android would help, more ram would help more

Best HU to get at the moment

Ok so I just sold my car with my Joying HU in it (was a deal breaker), so now I'm on the hunt for a replacement.
I had the old 2GB Joying Intel Sofia.
It was good, a little sluggish at times and I had a constant problem with the Bluetooth disconnecting from my phone.
A real pain in the ass when I had a Marcodroid set up to turn on mobile hotspot when the Bluetooth connected and turn off mobile hotspot when Bluetooth disconnected, you can imagine what this was like when the Bluetooth sometimes reconnected and disconnected 5 times in as many minutes!
Apart from this I was pretty happy, so now I'm looking for something to put in my new car!
Looking along the lines of one of the 4gb units which I imagine should be pretty snappy.
Have Joying fixed their Bluetooth issues or are they just as bad now?
Should I look elsewhere? Pumpkin? Xtrons? Ownice? Someone else?
Just want a "standard" double din 7 inch.
I also see that there is some rom activity on here now! Anyone have any recommendations to try out when I get a new unit?
Bump. I'm curious too. I have one of the joying mtc-b units and the Bluetooth audio quality is so bad that it's useless.

You don't get answers because the question is useless.
Nobody does a test between 10-20 head units. You have one head unit, maybe a 2nd one in another car, and maybe you had one or two earlier, which you can't compare because they are completely outdated. That is the experience users on this board have, including me.
Nobody here can give a broad comparison of multiple units.
Quite some Chinese brands are discussed here. All have their issues and all have one or two bonuses with regard to others, be it better audio or an IPS screen or better bluetooth or possibility for custom roms.
If you want "the best" then buy a 500 Euro or more expensive Sony, or a 700-1200 Euro or more Kenwood or Pioneer.
Otherwise just read the different topics here and select what you think is important for a much lower quality Chinese unit.
But that's what I'm asking.. Which do people think have better screens, Bluetooth or custom ROMs?
I know they are all lower quality and I'm good with that, I just don't want the 1 I get to bite me in the ass.
The name brand units don't support full android anyway so no point in looking at them.
I'm simply asking people's opinion. I don't expect anyone to have 20 units in their car

You're still asking the wrong things: "Which do people think..".
I have one Joying FYT PX5 unit in my car and one Sofia 3GR "on the bench". Do I think my screen is better than the other one, or better than another one (brand) I don't have? Or that my bluetooth functions better compared to also another brand I don't have?
You had issues with bluetooth on your old Joying. I read more posts from people with issues with bluetooth on joyings, but also on other brands. I have a Joying FYT PX5 and before that one, a Sofia 3GR FYT unit. I never had issues with bluetooth and I also read posts from user with Joyings who don't have issues either.
I still think it is low quality stuff with bad quality control. If you open these units and see how bad they are soldered, I immediately think you have differences between units.
I only have a Joying and I'm happy with it. I have no experience with others, so for me the Joying is the best I ever had. I "could" say that I "think" Dasaita has better audio based on its audio chip, but I never compared. I "could" say that I "think" that a Joying QD unit has a better screen, because it is IPS, compared to a Joying FYT unit with standard TFT, but I never could check the screens myself.
Not really a trustworthy opinion I would say.

That's fine, all I was asking for was opinions, nobody expected anyone to come on here with all of the answers. The point of the thread was anyone to come on and give an option of what they "THINK" of some of the newer android 8.0 units, pros and cons they may have come across on their travels/ownership/searching/YouTube etc.
I've seen this question asked in the past but a lot can change in 3 or 4 years so was looking for an updated idea of what people thought.
I didn't think it would be such a problem tbh.
Maybe someone can just delete the thread then and I'll just get a Joying again.. Or maybe a Dasaita as you say it has a better screen and from my searches it's cheaper for similar model (4gb/32gb universal 2din) maybe it will fit the 2din slot better than the Joying did.

So I have been in contact with cadillacmike and he's still running a Dasaita and seems pretty happy with it. I was thinking I may give it a go but then I started thinking about support (xda, root, mods etc.) and when I look into it, it seems that there is little to no support for the Dasaita units.
This brought me upon your Extra Tools apk (brilliant work) which is pushing me back to the idea of getting a Joying again.
These are the 2 units on the shortlist and my head is fried from them! Joying have a 20% off sale coming up for a few days during the week so I need to make my mind up by then!

As far as I know the Dasaita is an MTCD/E unit and therefore suitable for the Malaysk and HAL9 custom ROM. That's quite some support I would say. But don't take my word for it: confirm it with Hot-audio whether it is an mtcd/e.
Both the Joyings are OK. I think the difference (0.1 cm) is due to another screen supplier. I assume you saw from the webshop images that they have different hardware buttons / Vol knob?
The 2-DIN sizes are equal but the 7" box is 9 millimeters less deep. In my dash every centimeter less deep counts. That might be different for you.
I think it is just a question of preference.
And you can always ask Joying for the differences.

I was thinking of contacting them but I have a feeling that it would take too long to get a reply that would have a straight answer.
Joying are having their Christmas sale on Thursday and Friday so would have to get answers by then. After some thinking today I have decided to go for the Joying. I just know more about it and I'm afraid the Dasaita is a leap into the unknown (although realistically it's probably not).
Yeah I will be going for the hardware buttons over the touch. I just like the buttons for some reason.
Looking forward to some messing around with the unit in regards to the custom ROMs and mods as when I rooted my old unit I pretty much had the nokill mod and that was about it! Seems the community has grown big time since then. Will definitely be giving your app a go and throw you a cup of coffee!
I've also just realised that I can get a OBD1 (Nissan consult) -> USB cable and use that to get torque feedback from my Skyline! Looking forward to that.
I also think I will get a DAB dongle too as there are some decent digital stations around here (Perth, Australia) and the FM stations are awful! With the 3rd party apps out there now I can just grab a cheapy from eBay with no issues, correct me if I'm wrong!
Will most lightly have to fabricate some sort of facia though as I can't see it fitting too well!

Aftermarket Chinese Head units - Xtron/Erisin worth it?

I'm in the market to replace the rns-e head unit in my car as I want Bluetooth connectivity for music. I like the fact these units are 'oem look' but in just not sure about the quality.
The other thing I'm concerned with is I've heard alot of conflicting reports about their ability to work with Bose and I don't like the idea of using an in line converter as thats surely going to add alot of noise.
The problem is I can't seem to find much information about the recent units. I have a feeling a large amount of the issues have been solved but I wanted to check with people about their experiences with any of the brand's available to replace 2din head unit within an Audi.
Music quality is important to me. There isn't too much information about the DAC used within the unit. The quality of the amplifier isn't really of importance to me as the Bose system has it's own in built amplifiers.
Thanks for any help guys! Mike
Prob too late for you now but I bought a erisin (LM) earlier this year and its been great. Cant really fault it. I did install the maylesk rom and then the hal9k rom. I think only to see what was better.
To be honest stock rom was fine with the loaded apps. But personally I very much like the hal9k rom. It makes it a breeze to use looks great.
Some people complain and find fault running the weirdest apps and expect a rom to do everything they can think of. But out of the box its a great reliable unit.
No not too late at all mate as I still haven't bought one. Good to hear that you've had a good experience. Was that one of the units designed to fit a make and model? If so how well did it integrate with the car? I'm just worried it won't work well with my bose system as I've heard people complain that it doesn't work but those posts were like 3 years old and I can't seem to find anything recent about it which suggests to me the problem is solved as no one is asking how to solve the issue.

[Question] BMW E53 X5 PX6 Chinese head units

Hi folks,
I'm new to XDA and have been appreciating all the forums on understanding and rooting these units.
I'm looking to get a head unit for my BMW E53 X5 and am hoping one of the newer PX6 units will fit the bill. I've only found a few on Ali Express and am wondering if anyone has experience with any of these, and whether I can root the device to change the UI. They all seem like generic brands so it's hard to decide which to purchase (the buttons differ on some of them so I've filtered out the ones that have back and forward on different rows, which is weird to me).
This is one of the units I'm looking at (I apparently can't post links yet as a new user):
aliexpress.com, item #33040392318
I don't have a lot of strict requirements other than I want it to look as OEM as possible and I want to be able to change the launcher. I was even thinking about building my own launcher, or exploring whether I could install Android Automotive OS on the device.
Thanks for any help or advice you can offer.
Did you ever pull the trigger on something? I'm pretty much in the same boat as you are, prefer to get as much power as possible, but I want the OEM form factor which it seems is being dropped in favor of larger 10" screens for PX6+ processors. Hard to tell from the few examples that do look OEM if they're complete POS or actually decent...

I have This Dasaita Unit in my E39, but it's made to fit the E53. I've only had it a few months, but so far, it's been fantastic, I'm really happy with it. Sound quality is great to my uneducated ears. I run mine through the factory DSP amp and a separate subwoofer amp. I needed to contact support once and it was hard to get help from them, but I suspect that is the same with all of the chinese sellers. The main reason I chose Dasaita (aka hot-audio) is that they post here on XDA.
I installed the Hal9k ROM (which is rooted) as soon as I had installed the unit, so I have no experience with the stock ROM. But as I said, I'm really happy with the unit, it's made a massive difference to my car.

Looking to buy a headunit

Hi
I'm looking into buying an android head unit for the first time
My main option is to buy from Aliexpress, so i looked for options there and I would love some recommendations.
I don't have many requirements, i think that I can assemble it myself, but a few things I care about:
1. Waze, Spotify, Google Maps, and general android apps (I know every android head unit supports it, that's why I want one )
2. phone calls quality (road noise reduction and clear voice capture)
3. radio reception. my car currently has a head unit by jvc and the reception isn't great.
The main unit that caught my eye is TEYES CC3 (new unit to my understanding), it seems good but a bit pricey than others.
Another unit that have high sals is Junsun V1 pro, but I saw some bad reviews here.
other models i've seen are: Youmecity TS10, Aycenty PX6, AutoTop PX5, and LEHX (no model name)
I would love to hear recommendations / warnings / heads up
thank you!
EDIT: I don't have external amplifiers or subwoofer, just the regular OEM speaker array.

Suggest avoid all of the obscure types and look to an MTCD/E type, Dasaita sell these.
If you're not comfortable with quirks and bugs, problems, avoid these completely and look for a suitable genuine/branded Android Auto unit. You won't find Android Auto on on Aliexpress however - regardless of the wild claims.

I'm not afraid of bugs and quirks, i'm pretty capable of researching for solutions, but that means that I need a "popular" model, so I could find help within communities like this.
I will read more about what you suggested. to my understanding the TEYES ones aren't in this category, is that right?
what do you think of them anyway?
from the little I have read it seems to me that they are developing their own firmware, rom, and apps to work with these units, so I would like to think that they are doing a good job (are they?). furthermore I saw that they are releasing updates from time to time to fix bugs.
I'm not looking for a lot of customizability or frequent updates, after the installation and hopefully short debugging my intention is to enjoy it for several years without changes.
thank you very much!
Hello, what did you end up buying bud? 6 months later I am in the same boat as you, not sure what to buy in sept 2021
Hi !
I ended up buying:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32720737378.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.5a874c4dy5QaWA
I didn't want to wait for PX6, and didn't see much choices for PX5.
Initially my favorite was the TEYES, but my gf rolled it out (based on aesthetics and higher price)
My next choice was PX6 but I didn't find a good seller.
the product I ended up buying was from "Youmecity Car Multimedia Store", the seller was very nice and responsive, and has a lot of good reviews.
downsides for my unit: it isn't much configurable, the internal mic isn't working (and you can't connect external one), I didn't find (although I didn't spend a lot of time searching) different roms.
Overall I'm pleased with my unit (except the mic), its very responsive and works well, worked out-of-the-box, no cable soldering. even compatible with the rear cam I have installed.
Note - don't buy the OBD from them, it's huge, and it uses WiFi (can't connect in the same time with phone hotspot).
Note 2 - If you buy from his, ask for the new software version, they update it once in a few months.
