Tablet Crashed - Samsung Galaxy Tab A series Questions & Answers

Hi guys my daughters Tab A 2016 has crashed, it has a black screen with a black battery and has a lighting bolt showing. I've tried resetting the tablet but nothings happened, can anyone help please

The constant empty lighting bolt means the battery isn't getting charged, and thus, it won't boot up. It is very rare that the battery is completely dead all of a sudden. Check the USB charger, cable and jack in the tablet.
I would try a new charger and cable and leave it for a few hours.

I haven't heard of it in some time, but that tablet was known to have problems with the battery connector. It required taking the back off and reseating the connector.

You can try replacing the battery which will void the wanntary. If a device that are charged no matter what charger do you use, you can assume either the port is broken or the batteries is completely dead which happens with normal use after something like 5 years.

[INFO] Asus No Longer Charging!

As of this morning my TF nor the dock will charge from the charger. I suspect the charger itself is damaged somehow but I cannot find anything physically wrong with it from the outside.
EDIT: Weird, after the 20th time playing with it, taking it apart, reseating the USB cord, etc, it finally started charging again after hours of aggravation. Hopefully it stays that way....
I'm thinking the inner pins somehow lost contact with the interposer. I've also noticed that the adapter gets alarmingly warm when charging. As in it's hotter than the PSU I use for my Alienware m17x R2, which is almost hot enough to give a mild burn.
My charger gets pretty warm as well. I think because its charging the device at such a fast pace.
Takes twice as long to charge my phone than the transformer!

Yeah I'm just hoping this whole thing doesn't keep happening. Had the charger on the dock for a while before I realized it wasn't charging since there's no indicator other than the LED. I'm just glad I got the dern thinking working again. Figures it would get fixed not 5 minutes after I post here and send a ticket in to Asus.
I wonder if cutting a few vents on the charger or at least blowing some air with a fan might help. Perhaps there is a thermal protection shutdown circuit.
there are several threads about this here one;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1042868
i had the same problem, not had it since, something is definitively happening with the charger, changing sockets seemed to help
My charger actually died on me. It doesnt charge at all anymore with the included charger. I can still use the cable to charge off of USB, but that is sloooow. I bought an iPad charger (2 amp) and it charges a bit faster. At least I can still use my tablet until a replacement charger is available.
Just FYI I was told by Asus CS a replacement would not be available for awhile, and they wouldn't RMA the charger by itself.
Sounds like many of the charger problem is the contact between the country plug adapter and the charger itself. First thing I would do if it stopped charging is remove the country plug adapter , clean contacts and reinstall. Sometimes in the process of plugging in or removing the charger, you move contacts enough to either make or break the connection.
Loses charge significantly on standby
I left it on standby last night @ about 70pc. When i turn it on this AM, it is at 20pc Any workarounds?

Standby and off are very different states. In standby, it's STILL RUNNING. If you leave the WiFi on, it's still communicating over the network. Applications are still running in the background.
I did a test recently (right before I got my dock). I left the TF in 'standby' with WiFi on (turned off the sound) and went to sleep. About 9 hours later, the battery was down around 50%.
Next day I did the same, but I turned off WiFi. Battery ended up still being above 90%.
The workaround is turning it off. Disabling WiFi reduces battery consumption in standby, but it does not eliminate it.
And for the 'stopped charging from the AC adapter' issue, it seems that unplugging the adapter from the wall for a while seems to reset the charger.

I feel this is a shortcoming of honeycomb than asus. hopefully this gets fixed in a future update. Havent seen this behavior in any other mobile device.

Which part do you think is a problem with Honeycomb instead of Asus?
The dock issues or the power supply not charging? How can the OS be responsible for either? (save for driver issues with the keyboard, which Asus fixed with an update)
I actually had this happen to me, but reassembling the charger didn't fix it for me. I ended up restoring to fix it. Haven't had any issues since.
I had the same problem. Did as stated above... Left charger unplugged for 20-25 minutes, then gave it a try and now it's back to charging... All good.
Information of PSU model with known fault here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1081435
Possibly a related issue? My Transformer is now not charging although I believe either my cable is faulty or the connector to the tablet itself. I don't have my official Asus charger with me today so I plugged it into another USB power charger and I get nothing. When I plug the cable into my computer the Transformer does show up as a device in Windows however there is still no charging.

Hd2 not getting charged!!!! Pls help me

Hi Folks,
My HTC HD2 Android not getting charged either by a wall charger or usb via my pc... i dont what happened suddenly it got turned off due to low battery and when i pluged it for chrging its not showing orange LED notification of charging. when its off and plugged in Orange LED blinked once and Phone got switched on. And when its connected to PC for abt 3 mins it will show charging and after that it shows discharging and battery drains when it shows it discharging . pls help me out coz i dont want to loose my Leo .
Thanx in advance,,,,
Check the pins at the phone which connects to the battery. Sometimes they are deformed and this cause the charging/not charging problem.
But... in this case I don't think this is the problem, because this problem should not affect direct charging from usb cable.
Anyway check them just for sure!
Thanks VDodi

so if your phone dies how do you get it to charge?

Best way is not to let it run out
However, normally it will have enough charge left once it dies to boot up far enough to start charging. If this is not the case, then you have to cut open a USB cable and use the red and black wires to charge the battery. I have not had to do this and am unsure as to how to do it but there are tutorials. It seems simple enough.

Consider, as was previously suggested, a cable connection issue.
While you do not currently have the luxury of looking at your status icons, I have found that, on occasion, when I plugged in the phone to charge, the status icon indicated a USB connection, rather than a charging icon. Unplugging the cable and re-inserting the cable fixed it.
Note that new high quality cables can exhibit the same issue.
You have nothing to lose... Give it a shot.
Good luck.

Take out battery, plug chopped up USB cable into wall charger, use fingers to hold red to + black to -, count to twenty, battery in phone, phone into bootloader, real charger cable into phone and wall charger, leave 10 mins, reboot into android. (Can charge all the way in bootloader, but it seems slower than when android is running.)

By 'tutorials on how to do this' I basically meant your posts
As previously said if you're using magldr you need to be booted into Android before the phone will charge. You can try to warm the battery up in your hands to squeeze the last bit of power out of it to boot up. Or there are standalone hd2 battery charges you can buy from eBay that charge your battery outside of the phone, they're pretty cheap.

As Samuel said you can charge phone in bootloader. Just try!
Had to buy external charger
item # M00366 this charger was cheap has led's that change from red to blue as the battery charges and has a usb port so you can charge a battery in phone at the same time.
I'd been alternating tween an extended battery and the original when my HD2 started discharging while plugged in. same batteries and nearly a year of typhoon's excellent ROM progression then wham dead batteries....

Is your Nexus 7 stuck at 0% battery, even if its fully charged or has any charge?

I was reading that that a lot of you guys have issues with Android not displaying the real charge of the tablet and I was experiencing this issue for a while as well. In my case it was an easy fix, simply power off the tablet, carefully pry off the back, then disconnect the battery cable carefully (it's the cable coming from the big black thing on the bottom, google to find out where), finally hold the power button for about 10-15 seconds with the battery unplugged, this creates a static reset, using all of the electricity in the device and discharging it fully; it fixes all sorts of ****. Put it back together and you should be good to go.
It happened yesterday to my totally new nexus 7 16gb.
I charged it for about 8 hours while the tablet was turned OFF. When I turned it on it appeared to have 60% of battery... :-/
I reset the device and then again 60%..... So I charged it again and with no problem appearing, it charched untill 100%..
That happend only once, in its 3rd charge.
Any idea?
battery stuck at 0%
I was having this problem as well, my nexus was showing 0% battery. I took the back cover off and figured out that the battery cable was not pushed all the way into the socket. If anyone else is having this problem be sure to double check the battery cable is all the way in.

i experienced that too.switched off then after 5 hours of charging, the % was 54%. then i unplug the charger, remove the cable, unplug the 3pin . reinsert all the 3pin and cable, then continue charging. surprisingly, the charging the is quiet fast. so dont ever remove the cable from the charger. maybe there is something wrong with the asus charger
I am facing weird battery status..it shows me 0% in red danger zone even though fully charged, but after some hours status changes to normal remaining battery...I unable to understand how can I fix this...as I am not getting exact battery status...its now also showing 0 % with charger plugged....

Nexus 4 Dead Battery?

My battery was dead so i wanted to charge it.
But i can't get it to charge anymore and show the charge logo or anything on the display.
I tried normal power button
power button + up or down control key
I had it plugged in now for 5 hours...
Any ideas what it could be?
Sure it ain't your charger? Did you try using different chargers?
Try turning the phone off, then plugging in different chargers while it's off to see if the charging display pops up.

The problem is, i don't have the original charger anymore.
Today i tried with the htc charger and a normal usb-cable with iphone adapter.
Both didn't work.
I additionally tried charging on computer (usb) or direct power source.
I will try another charger.

If you have access to a wireless charger, try that. If i remember correctly, it activates a different charging circuit that can help revive a phone when plugging it in won't.
I unfortunately don't have a wireless-Charger
Yesterday i tried with the Nexus 5 Charger. Didn't work either.
The smartphone doesn't even get warmer. So I think it does nothing...
Maybe try to clear the usb port better?
Habe a lookat the USB port, i Gad the case once, that one oft the 4 contacts oft the port peeled off and wasnt able to connect anything. I was able to put it back in its Position using some time and steady Hands and a microscope
Second, for some people it helps to completely disconnect and reconnect the battery.

try wireless charging if u can lay your hands on it
if no other option mentioned above works, then try to dissemble your phone using various guides available(@ur own risk)
n try to see manually if your battery is showing a voltage change while charging..
hit thanks if this helps u
Update
Wireless Charging isn't a solution for me.
But!
The Phone did some weird things yesterday.
I plugged it in for several hours.
After one hour, the notification led blinked red a couple of times, then the screen came up with the symbol that it is charging.
Then it went black again.
Unfotunately nothing more possible.
The back was getting warm, so i think the battery was definitely charging.
Any ideas?

Charging problems

I just got my Note 3 working thanks to this group. When I first got it, it was without a battery and was locked by PIN. I was able to wipe it to factory conditions, but now it will not charge. It charged right away when I first got a replacement (OEM) battery, but then, I did the system factory reset, and now it will not charge. I am using a USB 3.0 cable and connecting this to my Apple charger I got with my iPhone 6 as I don't have a specific charger that might have come with the Note 3...just a generic USB 3.0 cable and the iPhone 6 charger that the USB cable plugs into. Any thoughts for me to try?
Try plugging the cable into a computer. It might not charge fast but it will let u know if it will charge or not. Iphone charger might not be compatible so battery will not charge.

I have tried using the computer and that is part of my confusion...the phone will indicate it is charging...but it doesn't. I get the same indication whether I am using the computer with USB 3.0 cable, or using various wall charger pods with the same cable. It will show the charging symbol (lightning bolt) or, if turned off, but plugged in, it will show the upflowing green drops rising toward the battery. So, it seems to indicate it is charging, but the charge percentage never increases...only drops.

It's not unheard of for a brand new battery to be defective. If you know someone else with a Note 3...try swapping batteries with then and see if the problem moves with the battery.
There is nothing in a factory refresh that would effect the charging circuit.
