Hello guys,
I switched from an old Android device with 7.x to the Mi 9t a couple of days ago. Good phone so far, but I am wondering where location based wifi setting is hiding? As far as I remember every device with Android 9 or higher should have this function.

You mean Smart unlock based on (home) Wifi - no such setting.
There was one thread/question here and there are similar complaints for the other Xiaomi devices
Even worse, every so I have a notification from Google asking me if I want to confirm my location for Smart unlock - I confirm but no avail
Smart unlock based on BT seems also working only for Xuaomi BT
No, I mean Wifi switches automatic on or off when I am leaving a known location with wifi networks.

Hello Xda
Today I got the Huawei Ascend G7-L01. It's a decent smartphone but I think mine has a defect. I can not seem to establish a stable connection with my home network (wifi) when I'm standing beyond 1 meter away from the Internet modem. I literally have to sit right next to the modem in order to have a poor- to decent connection (-70 -60 dBm)
I've looked all over the web to find a solution with no success. There is nothing on the G7-L01 so I looked for WIFI problems with other Huawei products with relatively same issues. From my understanding, the G6 had a similar problem and was solved with a firmware update in most cases. Unfortunately there is no update for the G7 yet. So I can safely assume that this is a software malfunction rather than a hardware defect. I will return the device back for a full refund if there is no solid fix for this problem. I do not want to wait months before Huawei addresses this issue and proposes a solution (like the G6)
Things I've tried to far:
Restarted device.
Restarted Modem.
Changed WIFI channels (originally I set it on CH 11, changed it to CH 2 and then finally to CH 7)
Installed third party WIFI connectors/analyzers
Disabled WPS on web UI.
Disabled device option "Avoid poor connections"
Disabled/enabled device option "WI-FI optimization" (Minimeze battery usage when Wi-FI is on)
Factory reset device.
Contacted Huawei Support (waiting for a response)
Any more suggestions would be appropriated. Guides, Videos, tutorial, tips & tricks, how-to's etc.

Device deemed DUI - offered new replacement. Case closed.
I returned the device back to the store and they deemed it DUI (defect) so they offered a new one free of charge. Case closed. thanks for your time.

My home network working fine in two weeks with my G7 modell.
In this link are all available updates for the Huawei Ascend G7 http://www.htcmania.com/showthread.php?t=950563
Just as the title states, I'm having major issues with wifi. It's the phone, it's not the network or router because it works well with all of my other devices. I've tried resetting the router anyway, I've removed the network information in the phone and reentered it. The only thing I think that might have affected it without me knowing at the time was when I left the phone in my car and it overheated. I actually did that twice. If that is what caused the issue then I think I'm out of luck and it's likely not repairable. My first thought was the wifi antenna or something but because it does still connect I don't think that's it. Anyone else have this happen?
How you check your WiFi preferences?
By default WiFi disconnects after certain time...
Make sure is set to "NEVER"
Does it say "Connected, no Internet" and then disconnects and tries to connect again?
Is it switching to 4G because better signal? Turn off aggressive wifi handover in developer options if set. Check other settings too.
Turn off mobile data and see if behaviour is different as a quick test.

I can not find this setting, what menu is it under? I checked in Wi-Fi settings and Wi-Fi>Advanced. I've had the phone for some time now, this happened all of a sudden.

In the notification bar it would still show Wi-Fi signal status (on, with full bars) but it would go from displaying "network name" to simply displaying "Wi-Fi". If I long press it takes me to Wi-Fi setting and I can reconnect manually. If I turn wifi off and back on then it DOES NOT auto connect back to the network, despite the fact that the network is saved.

It happens when I have full Wi-Fi signal. Auto switching is apparently turned off, as mentioned above. When I turn off mobile data, it still disconnects from the network, leaving me with no data connection at all. Developer options were off, but I turned it on and checked but that option is off.

What Android are you using?
You could update to 7 / 8.0.0 US Beta or use a custom like me. Im currently on Android 9 Treble Pixel Experience and its working nice.

I'm running 7.1.1, B35. It would be nice if it was just a software issue, although I hate having to back everything up and wipe it. I haven't been keeping up with development, how reliable are A2017U flashes now? I think I remember them being risky with this phone when I first got it. Is any functionality lost? I would prefer to wait for the OTA 8.0 update since it seems to be coming but maybe...
I'm having this problem but mine says that the wifi manager has disabled wifi permanently. I can start it manually and it will connect to the internet for a few minutes then revert back to disabled. This happened after the 7.1.1 update.

ZTE Germany just released a message on their Facebook saying they're in their last stages of testing the Android 8.0 Oreo beta and will release it officially soon. This can be as long as one to three months away, or even longer.
If you're running stock, then flashing a custom rom will provide you with more functionality and performance. Battery life will definitely be shorter though, so say if you're getting 6-7 hours of Screen-on-Time on stock 7.1, you'll get around 4-5 on a custom rom. This entirely depends on your usage however. Flashing custom roms is quite easy and risk-free if you know what you're doing, and follow a good guide. Check Oki's guide on how to flash an 8.1 treble rom if you'd like. The current LineageOS 15 and 16 builds drain quite a lot of battery compared to other roms. If you'd like a good and stable Android 8.1 Rom, I'd recommend NFound's AEX 5.8. If you're like some of us (me included), you can live life on the cutting-edge and flash a Android 9 Pie rom. I wouldn't recommend it though as unless you know what you're doing with a GSI, DON'T flash one.
Always backup before attempting anything.

A few weeks ago my Axon 7 started doing the exact same thing that you describe. Were you able to find a solution?
Same for me, I'm having the exact same issue.
Did any one of you find the solution for it? :/
Hi everyone. I'm on Pixel Experience CAF. Sometimes 4g network is very slow and I need to wait a lot in order to load a web page or when i try to install an app from play store it download ~100kb/sec. Other times it is very fast (100kb/s Vs ~6mb/s). I flashed latest firmware (June). I mention have this problem since upgraded to Android Pie (9.0). With Oreo everything was working fine.
I have another issue with WiFi. I have a Xiaomi Mi Band 3 so I need bluetooth enabled. I noticed that when BT is active WiFi is very slow. Instead, it is very fast when BT is disabled. Is there a solution for this problem? P.S. I don't know if this issue was even in Oreo.
Title pretty much covers it.....I have had it with the WiFi issues on the OP8 Pro and was going to go back to the OP7 Pro.
....but people are saying that they are all fixed in Android 11 beta on the OnePlus forums...is this true? And what about Dual SIM which I also need on occasion?
If I move to A11 OB2, can I root and get GPay working?
Is it stable enough to be a daily driver?
Many thanks in advance...

You can root OB2 device, and the OB2 seems usable and also stable enough for daily usage.
I recently acquired a oneplus 8 pro purchased directly from oneplus.com. I have model IN2025. It is the 12gig ram 256 gig storage version. I also have a samsung active watch 2 which I again have had no problems with my oneplus 7 pro. When I initially acquired it, I tried using it with the android 10 non beta firmware. I had multitude of issues up to and including:
1. high difficulty (to not at all) connecting to either my 2.4ghz wifi network OR my 5ghz network. It would state connecting however stall at obtaining IP address. No other devices have issues connecting to either networks including my older oneplus 7 pro.
2. if it would finally connect, while it may state that the 5ghz is connected at 300mbps or the 2.4ghz connected at 144mbps, with random speed tests I would not experience anywheres near those speeds (my ISP dishes out 200mbps). at most I would get 30mbps on my downstream....again if it even worked.
3. both the 2.4ghz and 5ghz networks would often disconnect and never reconnect if and when they did successfully reconnect
I installed the open beta 1 and then did OTA to open beta 2. This has helped quite a bit HOWEVER I've experienced the following issues:
1. while I have no longer received the locking up on obtaining ip address, even if it states I'm connected to my wifi (either the 2.4 or 5ghz) the network is still extremely slow
2. sometimes the device while connected to either wifi network will appear to not send any information aka stall which potentially makes using google messages over wifi unreliable as well aka text msgs show up late etc
In both pre and after beta installation 5g has been significantly slower than 4g cellular data(though I can't say much to that as more than likely the 4g in my area has towers closer near by). Also while on 4g or 5g cellular connections I have though not as frequently experienced data stalls.
Things that have helped resolve some of my issues:
1. this I believe is the largest potential bandage: make sure use device mac address NOT RANDOM is selected. After having done that my connecting to the internet appears to be better (even if it still stalls out)
2. while I've not tried it alot as I use bluetooth alot (with the watch I have and my car and wireless headsets)I've read that turning off bluetooth can help both wifi and cellular data issues
I am currently in the process with oneplus of returning the 8 pro for a new 8 pro as I have not owned/had the phone for greater than 15 days. If that does not resolve the issue, I too may go back to a oneplus 7 pro...or perhaps the 'dark side' and go the samsung route.

Excessiveidling,
This is exactly the type of info I was looking for. So it sounds like it is better, but still bizzare WiFi issues that no other phone on the market has. My situation is...
I have to leave bluetooth on because of watch and hearing aids
I need to rely on WiFI calling on occasion and need it to be 100% reliable.
I need working WiFi at home because I use my phone for some applications that connect via my home network, so having WiFi work "most but not all" of the time is a deal breaker.
So at this point I think I am going to switch back.
I've been a loyal OP fan for quite a while (4 phones now), this has been really disappointing. I even bought a new router because someone said WPA3 would help...but it didn't.
MW
While I can not say anything to the validity of the following statement...I have heard in other forums that the samsung devices with the same qualcomm chipset had wifi/cellular issues (especially with 5g).....that was only ONE forum post however unlike the multitudes of forum posts I've seen regarding the oneplus.
If I were to guess, only based upon my limited modding experiences with previous android phones, an updated modem/chipset software COULD resolve these issues...further more a different/modified kernel as well. Doing that would probably void any warranty though and for spending 800+ on a phone, you shouldn't have to modify in order for it to work just as well if not better than an older phone.
I'll let ya know how the exchange goes. I'm willing to give them another shot 1. because of my excellent experience with the 7 pro and 2. because I've seen so many posts, reviews, etc stating the oneplus 8 pro is THE PHONE to have overall.
Thanks,
E|
I read the same thing re - chipset, and agree that is a possibility. The other is a horrible RF design for the BT / WiFi antenna because they crammed in the wireless charging.
But I don't see any of this getting fixed anytime soon. I wonder if the OP8 (non pro) has similar issues -- I didn't check.
Let me know how your new phone works out - an RF HW update or a new batch of chips could change things.
Hello Everyone,
This question is not particularly only targeted for RN7 but that is the next phone of which I intend to unlock bootloader, install recovery and an Android 11 ROM.
I have returned to the scene of custom roms etc after a prolonged hiatus and it might be that I have missed something and because of which I'm encountering an issue. Over the past few days, I have unlocked the bootloader, installed recovery and custom roms on : Redmi 3S Prime (land) - WaveOS, Redmi 4(santoni) - crDroid and Moto G5 Plus(Potter) - PixelPlus UI all running Android 11.
Only on Redmi handsets, everything runs smooth and no issues except for WiFi - it works normal during the setup and after the installation as well. After sometime, the WiFi even though its working doesn't connects to the network. It shows the network as saved but doesn't connects, and still other networks in the vicinity are being discovered and shown. Only after performing a few hit and trials like forget network, use device MAC etc it gets back to working but not always.
Again, I have seen only this only my Redmi device whereas the Moto G5 Plus works flawlessly. I don't feel its an issue with any of the ROMS but maybe some settings that I have overlooked. Can someone please point me in the right direction?
My father uses the RN7 and I wouldn't want to mess around until I'm completely sure so as to not create any issues with the handset functionality thereafter.
Looking forward to your help and assistance!

Anyone to the aid? Any assistance will be highly appreciated!
On the last official havoc rom I've no wifi or other bugs.
