Tablet is stuck in retail mode! - Samsung Galaxy Tab A series Questions & Answers

I picked up a T-510 from microcenter that was a previous demo model. And I can't do anything with it. I called them for the password, first time was disconnected second they said they couldn't help me.
Download mode doesn't work (Holding down + power)
Update via sideload doesn't work..
Update via sd card doesn't work.
Any ideas?

Have you tried the proceedure to unlock the bootloader? It causes a factory reset which might solve the problem. You do this by plugging the USB cable into a PC only. Make sure the tablet is off. Then, while holding both vol up and down, plug the cable into the tablet. After a few seconds, a green screen should appear. Follow the instruction on that screen to unlock the bootloader.

I tried that, it just kept rebooting. I brought it back to microcenter, they replaced it with a much better one and gave me $20 for my trouble.

[Q] Nexus 7 in APX mode?!?!?

This morning I came down to find my Nexus 7 dead... No response from screen, and I was unable to get it into recovery mode.. I have recently unrooted and relocked the device, flashing it with the JRN84D factory image from the google website and then upgrading to the latest firmware OTA.
I thought the battery may be dead, but it's been on charge for two hours and I am still unable to boot. I decided to plug it in, and lo and behold, I get a response! By virtue of Naked Drivers, my computer now recognises a seemingly dead device as an Asus Transformer Prime in APX mode... No ADB or fastboot response...
What can I do from here? I am reluctant to return it because I am leaving for vacation soon and won't be in the country to accept the order..
Any help would be appreciated..
BTW this is my first android device I have rooted, to I'm fairly new to this..

I think that it's just frozen. You need to simulate pulling the battery out, try a long hold on the power button and see does that fix it for you.
Mine is in APX mode too. I was using it last night, rebooted it, and nothing. Screen is dead. It is a 16gb model from Staples and all of them are out of stock to replace it.
Any solution?
APX mode is used for NVFlash. I'm tinkering with NVFlash trying to somehow push stock software or something but I keep getting unknown device error. The device doesn't do anything at all. But if I hold Volume Up and while on a PC, it will ding and install the APX driver... but at this point I am completely lost.
This happened with my LG G2x once and I found a script that repartitioned, reformatted, and flashed over a stock image. I haven't seen any mention of NVFlash with the N7 though.
Unplug it from your computer and press and hold the power button for 10-20 seconds. Then release it and try to turn the tablet back on. It may or may not work. If not plug it into your computer and see if it went back to apx mode. If so, unplug from the computer again and try holding the power button until it turns off again and try booting into the bootloader by pressing volume up, volume down and power all at the same time. If you can get to bootloader, you can either flash back to stock using fastboot or try getting into recovery. If none of this works, call Google and tell them what happened and what it does when you plug it in to your computer and maybe they'll know how to fix it or will replace it.

Yea this is not the same case here. I've bootlooped my N7 before and your method would typically work.
But not this time. The screen doesn't even come on. There is no indication the tablet is on or off except the little ding on the PC when it comes up as APX mode.
So ADB and Fastboot commands are not an option. I already tried that. NVFlash is the only thing close to talking to the tablet and its saying unknown device.
I bought this at staples so I guess my only option is to return it. They don't have 16gb models and it doesn't look like they are getting any for weeks.
I can pick up a 8gb model but I don't want to be stuck with that.

I've tried everything...
I've tried everything, but short of NVflash - which I am reluctant to attempt - nothing works.. Seeing as at the time my device decided to go into APX mode my bootloader was locked and I was running stock ROM, I had no choice but to return it to Google, which is surprisingly difficult to do if you live in the UK...
For some reason Google decided to switch to TNT for us brits, and the customer support agent on the phone was particularly clueless as to how you go about returning an item if you are at the disadvantage of not actually living in the states... After many phone calls and much persuasion, I managed to prise out instructions on how to return an item if living in the UK...
However, a piece of information for anyone in the UK who wants to return an item: TNT do not deal with punters directly; they purely deal with businesses, the consequence of that being you as a customer CANNOT book a collection yourself. Instead you must ask Google to arrange it for you, which they will certainly not be able to, seeing as many of their frontline support agents seem not to have been briefed on this...
I ended up having to use Royal Mail...
Just a bit of info for anyone in the same predicament as me..
Did anyone figure out how to get out of APX mode?
My Nexus 7 was intermittently rebooting/freezing so I ran a 'StabilityTest' (CPU + GPU). Within one minute of the stress test the tablet rebooted and went straight into a blank screen. No matter what buttons, the tablet just won't boot. I plugged in the tablet to the computer, and I get the APX driver not found.
I'm past my 15 days to return the tablet to Google, and besides my tablet bootloader is unlocked. Though I never flashed any ROMS/kernels. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to proceed?
Thanks

I don't know the exact steps, but i got it out of the APX mode and into the bootloader.
1. Tablet plugged into computer.
2. Held Volume Down + Volume Up + Power (simultatenously) for three seconds
3. And then released all, and pressed Power again.
4. Tablet booted into bootloader.
I thought that unlocking the bootloader ALWAYS voided the warranty, but in anycase I flashed reflashed ALL stock and locked the bootloader. Will be sending it to ASUS now. Thanks again!
EDIT:
So I wanted to verify that it was a CPU problem, and I downloaded StabilityTest again and ran the CPU load test. It crashed within two minutes, and went into AXP mode again. To get it out of AXP mode, the correct instructions:
1. Plug in the usb into computer
2. Hold Volume Down + Volume Up + Power simultaneously for like 15 seconds
3. The bootloader should show up.
4. If it doesn't, unplug the usb cable, and plug it back in and then repeat the these procedures.
Mine went back to staples. I could never even get the thing to come back on. Perhaps it blew up.
Had my Google Play model now but this one has some screen lifting going on. Nothing major

I randomly kept pressing the volume / power button for an hour and the tablet came out of APX mode. Make sure the tablet is in APEX mode by plugging it in to the computer--the APX device drivers should install

You sir, are a savior! I was on vacation in when I woke up to a black screen on my Nexus 7 and nothing I tried work to get it booted. I tried this on a last hope that it would boot and it completely worked. So glad I won't have to deal with talking to Asus or Google to try and get it repaired.

MAN! You saved me! I'm hard rebooted to stop a CWM backup and got this problem. THANKS!!!
I had the same problem, and SimFox3's advice got me out of APX mode and booted. This appears in my case to be due to some kind of 'deep discharge' problem, where I let the device run down completely, to the point where it would not charge and was completely unresponsive.
After following SimFox3's "3 finger salute" trick, I got into boot, but then the device immediately shut down with 'connect charger' message before I could boot completely. After this I swapped back to the mains charger, and am now getting the charging animation, so fingers cross It will boot up fully after a couple of hours charging.
There seems to be loads of threads about the Nexus 7 and battery "deep discharge" type problems. Anyone seen any official information about this?
I interrupted a sideloading flash (didn't think it started anyway) and am getting this problem.
Tried Sim3fox's solution and still not working.
Any suggestions? It seems like fixes are happening at random.
Thanks

Mine went totaly dead even thought it was pluged into wall and I thought it was a goner, this just saved me a head ache from kids

boot loop after trying to flash twrp 2.2.1

Okay so I seem to have run into a little problem I was planning on updating cleanrom up to 1.2.5 but was on cwm. I had managed to switch over successfully to twrp 2.2.0. I went ahead and used goo manager to download the updated zip of 2.2.1 and tried flashing it thru twrp. Now I am stuck in google bootloop and cant get into recovery or more importantly bootloader. I have been trying last 30mins to hold power and both volume buttons but it either keeps rebooting back to the google screen or not doing anything at all just have to repress to to turn it off but it will turn back on automatically. I tried hooking it up to my usb and labtop but it looks like it wont even recognize it. I just fully charged it so I am good for now just a little worried cant get out of this mess.
I ran into a problem like that with clockwork recovery it kept on rebooting in recovery but I could still go into download mode I was at work away from my computer so I had no choice but to keep trying that three button magic until it finally restored a backup I had on my external card.just keep on trying to pull the battery then try to go into recovery. You might 've gotten a bad download

problem is I cant get into recovery. or the green screen to get to bootloader. It just completely stuck in a bootloop on the google screen mocking me... I am really contemplating opening it up and taking out battery but is that a good idea? Or is there anything else I can do?
so I pulled off the back cover but really dont want o disconnect the battery might mess something up but I cannot get the device to shut off.
disconnecting the battery does nothing it shuts it off and keeps it off but when I connect it to the charger the battery symbol pops up for a second and then goes completely blank. I went ahead and tried again to boot into bootloader pressing power vol up + down and all combinations of power vol -, power vol +
power turbo press vol +/- but no luck still in google screen.
If you're in a bootloop you need to connect your Nexus 7 to a computer. Then you will be able to access recovery via the Power button and volume buttons.
is it going to make a difference that everytime i try to reboot it just the black google screen? I have tried it connected to the wall charger and connected usb to the labtop but nothing.

It's supposed to do that when you're trying to go to recovery from bootloader without the USB cable plugged into a computer, may need to have the drivers installed on said computer. It's an issue with the nexus 7 bootloader and every one of them does it. What your experiencing is perfectly normal if you tried to go to recovery from bootloader with the bolume buttons and then got the google screen bootloop.
If it doesn't work when you plug it in and try, then try unplugging it, manually rebooting with it plugged in first, or vice versa
Update: I can get on Team Viewer and remotely reboot you into recovery through the PC if you want, or at least give it my best shot.
ok so i disconnected battery and have the device off. I should then try connecting it to the pc and try booting up holding down all buttons?

Have you installed the right drivers on the computer you're using, for ADB and the device drivers, when you unlocked and rooted?
Answer to your question is yes try that. But I wouldn't be disconnecting and reconnecting it, I can't recommend that and then learn tomorrow that static zapped something important.
yea I am getting nothing by connecting to pc. I have all the drivers adb and fastboot installed when I rooted and unlocked couple weeks back but it looks like device is not being recognized or read at all by the pc.
connecting to the pc holding the volume + button gets it recognized for a second and tries to install a driver apx but unsuccessfully.
I am not making any progress whatsoever kinda sucks starting the weekend like this. I have gone thru some bad stuff with my atrix but nothing like this were I cant even access my bootloader boot into recovery or even fastboot. Should I try and get it to just stay off and see if overnight it works its own magic? Hate going to sleep witht his on my mind but I think with a clear mind in the morning something good will happen.
I can get it to stay off by holding both vol+ and vol- but trying to turn it off with just the power button just keeps it turning back on/off...
so I slepted on it thru the night let the tablet rest but went back this morning and I still cant get into bootloader or recovery. Is there anything I can do?
Has anyone else had this problem where they cant boot into recovery or bootloader? It's like the power button and vol keys are unresponsive even though they still work to turn on the device.
are you sure that you flashed the right recovery? but you should still be able to get the bootloader. are you pressing power + volume down(volume down, not both volume buttons. i noticed you wrote both volume buttons) to get into the bootloader?
I think I chose the right recovery the first version downloaded thru goo manager but it was the 2.2.0 version. I had the option on the of downloading the 2.2.1 zip or the .img but i downloaded the .img to just to flash with the current version of twrp that was working. There have been times were I have not been able to get into recovery on my atrix or htc but I've always been able to get into the bootloader this is the first time I've been locked out of my device kind of got me scared its not even a month old. So you say to get into bootloader you dont have to hold down both volume buttons? I will try again to power back up using the volume down and power button at same time... Wish me luck

First i would try getting in to recovery using the hardware keys. Look it up on you tube. Then you should be able to use a back up if you made one.
To get in download mode you need to power off then while powering on hold the vol down key and plug in the usb cable. That will get you in download mode. You shouldn't have to do that though if you have a back up. Your phone isnt bricked?

sorry friend, but is that as explained in the previous post: long press volume + but does not go into download mode, this as locked or not happens.: Llanto:

Press and hold power and volume down until the display shuts off and the LG logo appears. Then, try pressing and holding volume up and volume down until a hard reset option appears. Reset the device and try booting it up. You will lose all data on it, but that's what you get if you're not smart enough to back it all up.

A hard reset will not help if he made changes to the system partition (which it sound like he did). If he has a recovery installed (kind of a weird sentence in the OP) this would take him into the custom recovery though.
@tuberodx7 If all else fails I'm convinced you can get it into download mode if you do it right, something like that should definitely not kill that. From there you can flash a factory image (Search for the return to stock thread in the General forum)... Your device is far from hardbricked, please do your research...

Ok, if you're absolutely definitely positively sure you're doing it right and it still doesn't work, you might have to manually reflash some of the partitions... Refer to this thread (and be careful) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142

Cant put a picture because i don't know how. But this is all it says, and then nothing else happens. Just stays on that screen. Can't connect to my pc or reboot in Recovery mode it always ends here.
Hopefully one of you guys can help. In a bit of panic.
Can't shut it down, everytime i try to turn it off, it reboots into this screen.

I have tryed to start with volume up + power both volume up and down + power and volume down + power. Nothing changes, just get this screen everytime.
Cant do anything, not even shut the phone down, it only reboots. I have seen other simular problems, but they have been able to get to the screen with 3 options. I havn't been able to come to that part.

After i ran out of power and the phone went out. I have been able to boot again. Anybody who knows a bootloader i can install that works on my phone for sure. My bootloader is ****ed up.
It is unlocked now, so i have to be sure it works.

I think I bricked my P10 Lite. Need help please

I was messing with my P10 Lite and I accidentally wiped the Vendor partition (not sure if I wiped anything else) with TWRP. After the phone rebooted it said something about a critical error during boot and went into erecovery. It gave me two options( I don't remember the second one) and I chose factory reset. It started doing it's thing but I guess something went wrong because it wasn't able to boot and it started to bootloop.
I managed to get into fastboot once. The bootloader and FRP should be unlocked but I am not sure as I think I semi accidentally used the command to relock the bootloader in the hopes of it doing the automatic low level factory reset. After that restart, the phone wanted to boot up but after the Huawei logo it went into the EMUI logo which I've shown in the pictures. Now I can't use any button combination and can't enter any menu. I also can't shut down the phone as it bootloops into the EMUI logo after I press the power button. I opened the phone and turned it off by detaching the battery cable but after holding the power down key and plugging the usb cable into the phone it still boots into the EMUI logo right after the Huawei logo.
I guess not being able to enter fastboot is the major issue and after hours of googling I am yet to find a solution.
Edit: I am a newb!
Please help!
Why did you delete the vendor partition, you could try plugging the phone into your computer and checking if you can do anything with fastboot while it's showing emui logo?

I've already tried that. I've placed the appropriate files into my SDcard but I can't use any button commands including volume up+down+power. When I press them my device just boots into the EMUI logo and nothing happens.
Edit: It boots into the EMUI logo even if I only press the power button. Pressing volume down + usb also boots me into the EMUI logo

I measured once and not trice before cutting... I was also not paying enough attention/in a hurry...
Power OFF the phone.
Press and Hold VOL Down and connect the phone to PC via USB cable. The phone should boot into Bootloader (fastboot mode). Does this method work?
or try this:
Press and Hold VOL Up and connect the phone to PC via USB cable. The phone should boot into eRecovey mode and then then select "Download latest stock rom and install".

Ok, it seems like not all is lost about my phone. I managed to get into fastboot. In my situation, pressing volume down + usb cable while the battery was plugged into the phone did not work. That was before I opened up my phone's case and disconnected the battery cable.
As I mentioned before, I had opened my phone and disconnected the battery cable because that was the only way to shut it off.
What I did after I disconnected the battery cable was the following:
1 - Hold volume down and don't release it
2 - Plug in USB
3 - Plug in the battery cable into the phone's mobo.
That booted me into fastboot. Right now, the phone says my bootloader in unlocked and my FRP is locked. What would be the best way to flash the new stock OS on my phone?

I have downloaded THIS and THIS for the new OS but by talking with Alexxxx1 in THIS discussion I learnt that Huawei has implemented a security patch in their latest update, which I've most likely installed, that prevents you from rolling back your OS version. That means I need to install the .386 version, which should be the last if I am not wrong, instead of the .378 correct? Though I heavily dislike patches like this I guess I can't do anything about that...
