Hi all,
After my last update via KIES (a couple months ago) to Gingerbread on my SGS I am no longer able to enter recovery mode.
I can however, still access download mode.
I'm getting excited with all of the ICS news and I'm wondering if this will limit me in what I can/should do regarding installing custom roms/kernels.
Any thoughts on the subject (or a way to fix the issue) would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
I don't see an issue - standard recovery should work, no doubt, but you can enter download mode -> flash custom kernel with CWM -> install custom ROM from zip in CWM. Or skip the kernel flash and flash the ROM with Odin if the ROM supports it.
Have you tried entering recovery mode with adb ? Maybe it's just the keys that are not working at the time.
I haven't tried anything to restore the functionality at this point.
You've given me some good starting points to investigate this weekend.
Thanks for the input!
I don't know where you are from but for the I9000M, after the UGKG3 upgrade (gingerbread), recovery menu changed. It can now be access by pressing the middle part of the volume button and the power button.
I hope this helps.
Wow.
That totally worked. I guess it switched from Volume up with the Gingerbread upgrade!
Thanks!
Hi guys, I really need some help here.
I have just upgraded from CM7 to CM10 using CM10-20120924-NIGHTLY-mb525. and now my phone is asking for the Network Sim Unlock Code. but the Defy was unlocked when i bought it (back when it was stock rom), but this upgrade has caused me to lose all functionality of the phone. and when i tried to reload my original rom (CM7) by using the recovery tool the phone just reboots normaly and does not enter the Cyanogen Recovery Tool.
and just to clarify
Yes I have tried Hold power button --->Reboot --->Recovery, but the phone reboots as normal, I tried to reload it using the Power on and Volume Down but that needs signed firmware/rom, and i cant seem to find any signed firmware stock or custom even with hours of googling.
oh and RSD lite does not detect my phone so cant put stock firmware on that way either.
I'd really appreciate some assistance
thanks

im in the same boat as you are
Downgrade to 4.3 - OR flash the new bootloader, for some reason it's not working without BL included. - XEO roll out started just now, so it'll be official in a few hours anyway, so if you choose upgrade - root will be fixed quickly also like it was on the S4
Do you solved that Problem???? I have the same ! Now, i dont know what to do with my phone! Please help me!
I Had the same problem, to fix it i popped the batterie out for 30 second put it back in and pressed the power button + Volume Down + Home Key got into bootloader fired up Odin PDA n9005-cwm-recovery-6.0.4.5(1116).tar, let it reboot, power button + Volume up + Home Key to wipe everything then reboot to bootloader then PDA back to N9005XXUDMK2_N9005OXADMK2_N9005XXUDMJ7_HOME.tar.md5
Hi, I bought a second hand zte axon 7 a2017. I want told it was rooted or anything. Power button is squashed in so got it for cheap so bought it. Phone runs fine on stock rom and for restarting etc I use mi pop and power button can still be used by poking it hard at an angle with stick etc. I'm familiar with rooting, flashing etc but it is the first time I'm using zte so it's bit different.
Issue is I want to root it to get rid of bloatware etc. I downloaded Root Check app and it says it is rooted and busybox is installed but there is no super user app. Funny thing is I have no means to check if bootloader is unlocked and can't even boot to bootloader mode as it just gets stuck at zte logo when I try to boot to bootloader mode from recovery mode. I get to recovery mode by restarting the phone from mi-pop and holding the volume up button. I don't even think there is custom recovery installed too which I don't know how that's possible as my understanding was custom recovery needs to be installed earlier in order to root.
Can someone please throw some light and give me some guidance. I want to go full stock but rooted and want custom recovery too just so that i can make a nandroid back up.
I'm on Mi favor 4.0
ZTE_A2017V1.0.0.B07.0
Thank you in advance
I'm on the US variant so I'm not too familiar with yours. I would suggest starting from stock, and downloading MiFlash, and the latest MiFlash edl package for your variant.

Okay, couple o' things:
- If your bootloader is unlocked, there should be a screen when your turn on the phone that says 'Your phone can't be checked for corruption. Please lock the bootloader' which is there for around 10 secs. If you use the volume buttons from there you should be able to select recovery or bootloader
-It is possible that you don't even have a working bootloader mode. IN CASE THAT YOU DON'T HAVE THE SCREEN I PREVIOUSLY TALKED ABOUT, try with adb: install adb, enable usb debugging, authenticate in the phone, "adb reboot bootloader". If it reboots into the bootloader (Should say START in green plus some text) then you can unlock the bootloader. But follow a guide before attempting that, or you'll risk a brick
-Having the stock recovery doesn't necessarily mean that the phone is not rooted. If you have the stock recovery it could be because the previous owner simply rooted it, used it, then flashed the stock recovery and sold the phone like that. Which is really weird in itself
-What you should do to recover from this mess is use MiFlash. Find a package called "A2017_NOUGAT_FULL_EDL" (might have a version number somewhere, just use the most recent). Enable OEM unlocking and USB debugging, then issue "adb reboot edl". The phone seems off but it's not. Now unpack the file and install it to the phone with MiFlash.
After you reflash the system you can proceed with a guide. If you get the warning screen when you turn on the phone then your bootloader is already unlocked and you can proceed with installing TWRP (maybe via axon7tool) then flashing Magisk.
Hy, im looking for some help here with my Fire HD 8 2018, im going to resume my problem in what i do, and miss the Recovery Mode:
1. Firsy ill unlock the bootloader, instal TWRM, and install Lineage OS
2. Later ill Install Stock Firmware version 6
3. Then in OS6 ill update to version 7
4. After that Im stuck on Boot Logo "AMAZON", and i cant enter in TWRM or even Recovery Mode.
ill look for some guides for unbrick, but i cant get to star TWRM, or even Recovery Mode so no way to flash.
Any guide or help? Thanks in advance!
I am in the same boat (except my was just after installing Lineage the first time)
I have the same problem - unfortunately, I haven't been able to get it to fully boot with the latest OS 7 version, but you can revert back to 6. You'll need to pull the cover, then disconnect the battery. You can then reboot the tablet into recovery mode and reinstall v6. As long as you block the update, you can at least use the tablet.
If anyone else has a fix, please share.
I've got an old one running OSMO for my kids, I just have to make sure it doesnt reboot and push an automatic update.
